Barack Obama’s father was a Muslim. Barack may have attended services with his father at some point. But the senator is a Christian and always has been. But that isn’t enough for the paranoid neo-cons who are using any association Barack may have had with the Muslim faith against him. Michael Barone, along with Daniel Pipes, seem to be saying that this will only anger those who want to kill us and possibly assassinate a US president. Funny, I didn’t realize conservatives want to get permission from the people they hate most (besides liberals) before we vote. Think Progress runs it down.

At a recent Washington Institute forum, U.S. News and World Report columnist Michael Barone quoted Pipes’ specious argument, calling it “a chilling thought,” but concluding that it’s “naive” to “expect the hearts of Muslims around the world are going to be warmed” by the prospect of an Obama presidency. Council on Foreign Relations Senior Fellow Peter Beinart rebutted Barone and Pipes’ argument, calling it “absurd” and “reprehensible”:
