Romney: “I Can’t Let My Campaign Be A Surrender To Terror”

February 7th, 2008, 12:03 PM EST

So, you quit the race and fear-monger at the same time. Mark Halperin at Time had it first. Introduced at CPAC as “the conservative’s conservative” by Laura Ingraham. Are you kidding me? A guy who was pro-illegal immigrant, more pro-gay than Ted Kennedy, pro-choice, pro stem cell research, and anti-NRA? The guy who said, “I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I’m not trying to return to Reagan-Bush.” And these people have the audacity to attack John McCain and call him a “liberal” or, worse, a Manchurian Candidate?

This nasty screed attacking liberal judges and unions, making fun of France, and hitting all the right-wing talking points, implying that it’s the conservatives who are the principled, family values people having to fight off attacks on our culture (from liberals, obviously) is exactly why he has no business being president of a UNITED States of America. Romney picked easy targets for applause lines like Ahmadinejad, Putin and “radical jihadists” (red-baiting, anyone?), sure to get hoots and hollers from the Kool-Aid® crowd. Oh, and of course he talked about how brave our soldiers are and how their numbers were depleted by Clinton. Wait a minute! How long has it been since Clinton has been president? If it’s true that our military was decimated by Clinton, why didn’t the Republican who followed him rebuild it? Romney’s speech was a disgusting display of fear-mongering, playing the old “elect them and we’ll get attacked” canard. And then he said he has to get out now to stop Hillary and Barack, and he “can’t let (my) campaign be a surrender to terror.” So if you stay in the race that means you’ve surrendered America to terror, by allowing a Democrat to be elected? Sickening.

  1. Yep–just announced on NPR, who also reported that he got an official White House Power Shave Basket as a consolation prize.

  2. Flippard Flop Romney is quitting? So what! My God the republicans are so pathetic. Although I was really hoping for a Obama-Romney Race. That would have been to easy for Barack though. I guess Flippard will just have to go back home and lay on his pile of money with his “perfect” family or whatever the hell…

  3. The Conservative movement has lost it’s power and sway over the electorate, Alan! Rejoice! The fools have been so filled with hate and bigotry! It has finally caught up with them. They will now just be a small minority, perhaps losing more Senators and they will be reduced to the ineffectual braying asses that they are! Thank you Flippard for making us safer!

  4. Well I’m watching Willard’s speech right now. Hold on a sec, I have to go take some Pepto Bismal… think I’ll take an alka seltzer too, hold on… ok too late for the Pepto Bismal.

Mr. Romney is giving his family values/the problem is with the culture– portion of the speech now…
Gee I wish Willard was my Daddy. He would show me how to be a lady and be God Almighty Fearing and cut out all this promiscuous sex not to mention the porn. I am such a bad person. I guess I shouldn’t have had those 86 abortions after all. I guess it’s all that evil socialist marxist stalinist fascist communist hitlerist tree huggingist baby animal likerist liberal brainwashing that makes me do these things. And all that Starbucks coffee. And the fact that I have no soul. And listening to Alan Colmes for years and years. On the other hand I think the horns on my head that all liberals have and my cute little tail is very kinky. Men like it. OH CHRIST there I go again…

I just heard him say… what the hell… Willard Mitt Romney’s line about “size does matter”? HUH? He’s wrong about that. It’s not about the size of your campaign or delegates, it’s about the motion of the ocean.
Well it looks like Willard has “pulled out”.

This speech is getting surreal. I feel like I’m watching a movie. All the usual conservative garbage, the same old issues that conservatives like to play like a card game over and over again. That he didn’t even believe in years ago. There’s nothing heartfelt in his speech. A bad robotic speech. He also sounded nasty and bitter. McCain may be hard to beat but I am so glad to say good-bye to Mittney. I would take Ron Paul over Mittney. Yes I cannot stand him.

All that has happened to Willard Mitt Romney could have been foretold. It all has to do with his dog riding for miles and miles trapped on Willard Mitt’s car roof. You can’t get away from that kind of karma.
    Woof.

  5. Amen

  7. $40 million down the tubes and all the scumbag gets is a speech in from of the rightwing nutjob alliance. At least we don’t have to listen to him anymore…well, not for 4 or 8 years or so anyway!

  8. It’s not a shoe-in for McCain. Ron Paul still has an excellent chance for the nomination so all is not lost.

  9. Oh, and of course he talked about how brave our soldiers are and how their numbers were depleted by Clinton. That’s funny, I thought Bush’s boy Rummy Bumsfelt was building a smaller and leaner military?

  10. I like the “defense of marriage” part of his speech.

A child needs a mother and a father.

Or as the Mormons sometimes say, a child needs a mother and a father and another mother and another mother and another mother ……

  11. ^ LOL!

DamMitt! Please check out later tonight or tomorrow Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show. Jon’s response to Romney’s speech was beautiful.

All that “lean military” stuff started with Bush 1. He’s the one who left the plan in palce to clse bases and cut back military spending.

    They tend to forget that.

  13. “We could become the France of the 21st century!!”

There are worse things to become.

    DamMitt!!
