State Department Deja Vu

March 21st, 2008, 11:22 AM EDT

Were those snoopers into Barack Obama’s passport files just curiosity seekers as the Washington Times story indicates, or is it something more sinister?

(State Department spokesman Sean) McCormack said the officials did not appear to be seeking information on behalf of any political candidate or party.
“As far as we can tell, in each of the three cases, it was imprudent curiosity,” Mr. McCormack told The Washington Times.

But does anyone recall that in 1992, Bill Clinton’s passport files were improperly accessed during another Bush administration? And his mother’s files?  And the files of Ross Perot?

  1. One of the MSNBC’s “reporters” said earlier in the day that Bill Clinton’s former ambassador to Paraguay “recently” worked at state in the one of the departments where the files were accessed–and then went on to say that he meant to conjure no innuendos by bringing this up.

So why did he mention it? No reason provided.

Is there something sinister going on? Well they fired two people, right? How many people got fired over 9/11?

  2. And now it’s the files of Obama, Clinton and McCain, according to USA Today.

  3. The real question is why does the government allow contractors access to anything of that nature! Maybe access to this type of information should be limited to full time Federal employees?

  4. The answer DB’s question, it’s because the information is needed by the company in question; it prints and distributes the
    passports under government contract.
The State Dept. mouthpiece had reasonable explainations of the snoopy access.
    Nosy employees.
