Do They All look Alike?

April 9th, 2008, 11:00 PM EDT

Army Staff Sgt. David Bellavia of Vets for Freedom introduced John McCain outside the Captol Tuesday and said, “You can have your Tiger Woods, we’ve got Senator John McCain.”

And the next comment is not on this video: “My friends, this is the real audacity of hope.”

Interesting analogy, no?

  1. The video is no longer available.

  2. Ahh, it’s working again.

  3. Alan, I’m not a mind reader, but I suppose Bellavia was trying to call Obama a rock star, meaning to dismiss him as a fad. Since Woods is famous, and both men are black, the connection is immediate in one’s mind. Or he’s a flat racist.

  4. *As just another celebrity with no substance.

  5. Cause yer god!

  6. I can hear typing, or something.

  7. Lot of people? It’s just me! Do I have multiple personalities?

  8. Someone else talk so I know I’m still kind of sane.

  9. I’d call if I didn’t have such an anxiety problem, and wasn’t so verbose.

  10. Will this be the 10th post in a row from me??

  11. Yes. Ticker tape parade for me.

  12. Oy. I give up. I’m just going to listen.

  13. let’s see: The economy is on fire, the Middle East is a bloodbath, the Russians hate our guts, the Chinese are antsy about our hypocracy in condemning their occupation of Tibet, OPEC is deserting the dollar, your house is in foreclosure, and THIS is the subject of political debate??? HA! you moronic sheep deserve the criminal you get! BAAAAA! BAAAAA!!!!

  14. Finally. Paul is my new hero of the minute, or two. I’m dedicated to very little.

  15. Hrm..points to ponder.

If I’m being called “unpatriotic” because of my staunch position against all things Bush and the war, will everyone staunchly “for it” be “unAmerican” when there’s a new opposing president?

(I’m tired of conservatives owning the patriot card)

Will Barack Obama totally destroy Mcain in this summer’s debate?

(The big experienced war candidate has been wrong just about everything. The only way he’ll win is if he says “Reverend Wright 77,000 times and wraps himself in the flag so tight his melanoma scars will pop.)

Hasn’t Reverend Wright done more for white people than most of us combined?

(I’m reading right now about shelters, addiction counseling, fundraising, and family counseling! I need Reverend Wright right now!)

If I created a mechanical robot, programmed every political book within, set the logic circuits to “calculating and ruthless” -would I get Hillary Clinton?

(Her entire campaign has been pretty predictable, if CNN says she’s too tough -she cries, if CNN says she’s to soft she yells defiantly at Barack on Live TV. Where was all that outrage 2 days later at the actual debate? (Ohio) Oh, there was no real outrage. I think Hillary is a deceptive robot…I mean person. )

  16. Oh, and…

    John Kerry for Vice President!

    Obama/Kerry….is it a winner?

  17. vote for hillary!

  18. Alan:
When is that trashy station of yours going to start reporting the news? After all, they claim they are a “news” channel.

  19. As a bi-racial American I can tell you was my perspective tells me…Mr. Belavia chose an underhanded way to be a bigot. I keep hearing people say that he’s really comparing Obama to Woods. When in reality the term “Tiger Woods” here is used in the same manner as many other derogatory terms are. In my opinion he could’ve use the terms, “Blacky”, “Spook”, or “Coon” and meant the same thing. Many of you may not take my side, but remember that my perspective may be different than yours. Minorities are used to these type of code word games played by Mr. Belavia.
The worse part is that there’s not a brown face in the crowd and that he gets a laugh from all of this. Nothing cries “Good Ole Boy Network” more than what I observed in this video. The non-action by McCain will doom him among many minorities…This whole thing made my stomach turn.
Lastly…I wonder if Mr. Belavia ever served with soldiers of color? If so…it would be interesting to see what they have to say about this comment and as him as a person.

  20. Should be, “what my perspective tells me…”

  21. I don’t know what this is supposed to mean and I don’t really give a damn, because I’d take it as high praise being compared to Tiger, because here’s a man who started developing his trade at around the age of five, and he probably puts as much time in on his job as any three people combined, and maybe one person in a million has the ability, the resolve and the character just to attempt what he’s accomplished, and he deserves every success because he damn well earned it.

  22. Bellavia was not comparing Tiger to Obama. He was simply making the point his sons will grow up to admire real heroes like John McCain and not sports figures like Tiger Woods. He used Tiger as an example because that is the first name to pop into his head. Yes, he took a jab at Obama at the end of his speech with the “Audacity of Hope” comment, but this was not about race either. David has been through hell and back and does not deserve these attacks. Did you know he is nominated for the Medal of Honor? Read his amazing book “House to House: An Epic Memoir of War”….then tell me what kind of person he is.
