On Wednesday’s Radio Show…
• Yesterday, he faced the Senate. And today, Gen. David Petraeus faced Members of the House. Alan recaps today’s testimony.
• Wounded Iraq War veteran Tomas Young, the subject of Phil Donahue’s new film Body of War, tells Alan why he thinks the war hasn’t been worth the enormous costs.
• A McCain supporter says that Obama voters “can have your Tiger Woods, we’ve got Sen. McCain.” Was the comment racist?

I don’t know if that comment is racist….I like Tiger Woods and I like Barack Obama….maybe McCain should apologize anyhow…just like he wanted talk show host Ed Schultz to do……even though Ed wasn’t representing Obama..and wasn’t standing next to him at the North Dakota Democratic Party Convention…btw McCain is a warmonger…….Barack Obama is not Tiger Woods……

I dont think that comparing Barack Obama to Tiger Woods is racist at all. Should we start worrying if Hillary Clinton is compared to another white woman? Since Barack Obama decided to campaign for the nomination, it seems a new kind of political correctness has come on the scene. If Bill Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro can now be described as racist, what kind of America are we going to have if Obama becomes president?

RE: Thomas Young. In a way, I sympathize with this poor wounded young man who believed his government’s lies and helped participate in the first great War Crime of the new century. But I am not surprised at all by the treatment he has received at the tender hands of the band of criminals–I mean government–he chose to serve. Even a cursory study of history reveals that this is the way we ALWAYS treat our vets. The sole exception to this was the World War II vets, probably because there were so damn many of them. But every other set of vets, we have deserted and treated like dirt. Viet Nam vets, Korea vets, you can ask an older veteran and he will tell you how it was/is. But digging back into history we find that the World War I vets were badly mistreated, being gyped out of their Liberty Bonds, and denied their bonuses. And when they marched on Washington to collect their bonuses in 1932, they were run off by armed soldiers of the US Army commanded by Patton and Eisenhower. Civil War vets were treated just as shabbily, as were Spanish War vets, and Mexican War vets. No, the warmongers who run things in DC cannot stand veterans, especially wounded ones. They are simply a reminder of the horrific costs of war, and tend to detract from the shiny, glorious image of “dying for your country” they wish to project. Oh and by the way, in none of those wars was the United States every truly “threatened.” The last time we were invaded was 1812, and that after a deplorable debaucle of diplomacy. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor does not count, because, first, the Japanese never could have taken the continental USA even if they wanted to, and second, FDR deliberately provoked the attack. Mr. Young didn’t give his legs for his country; he gave it for a lie so that a bunch of goddamned neo-con chicken hawks could bask in the glory of war. That is the fact, that is the immorality, and that is the true tragedy of Mr. Young’s sad tale.

Thanks for the reminders, Paul.
I do find it encouraging, however, that Thomas Young is one vet who isn’t just gonna fall through the cracks, and who isn’t gonna let his intention to help America get alienated out of existence. Young’s perspective to me was creative, informed, and articulate. It gives you hope. A hundred more Iraq vets might get on radio shows and, each one of them, add a little more of something solid to the picture. More interesting and straightforward stuff than wonk talk. Hopefully it’ll take far fewer before the momentum is sufficient to stop this thing.
I agree with Cheryl…I believe about 5 min before the hour. The yes-buters came off to me like good doublethink students.
If you say the proceeds of Hannity’s freedom concerts make up for his propaganda, then without doubt you have actually indicated what should be the topic of a future show…the nature and power of today’s electronic media. That show should have some heavies on as guests, Alan. [some McChesney types and Chomsky buffs, Lakoff types, Foucault&Ellul types...IMO] Let the Hannity defenders put on their thinking caps for a change.
