McCain Refuses To Rule Out Pre-Emptive War

April 10th, 2008, 1:55 PM EDT

He does say it’s unlikely, but adds:

“If someone is about to launch a weapon that would devastate America, or have the capability to do so, obviously, you would have to act immediately in defense of this nation’s national security interests.”

So all a country needs is “capablity” to encourage a US invasion?

  1. Ruling it out completely, especially in the unlikely events McCain describes, seems hopelessly naive. While there certainly should be a serious exploration of alternatives before using military force, the signal that a potential President would send by saying “no first strike, ever” is weak and encouraging to America’s enemies.

  2. War, either now or later, either over there or over here, is still war. War to stop war is war. There is no such thing as pre-emptive war. Can I pre-empt a meal? Can I pre-empt sex. No. War is War, no matter when it happens. Pre-Emptive war is unethical, immoral, unjust, and a paradox. If We wish to evade war why would we start the war in the first place. This, Pre-Emptive war concept is the art of illogic, irrationality, and is a crime against humanity.

  3. Unless these elections are “fixed” (like they were in 2000 and 2004) McCain, in my opinion, doesn’t stand a chance of winning.

  4. Here is another pre-emptive war guy from history. NO, He was not an atheist or secular. He was a devout Christian.

“my feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s Truth, was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the lord at last rose in his might…..” “As a Christian I have also a duty to my own people.” Hitler April 12, 1922, “The Speeches of Adolf Hitler” Vol. 1 of 2, pg.,19-20, (Oxford Press, 1942).

  5. Annie still selling the elections were fixed line. Move on…. your spin is tired and unfounded. But hey if it makes you feel better.

Yes he was— Hitlers actions were NOT driven by any professed Christianity from 1922…what year did WW2 start anyway?

  6. While Hitler used Christianity as a tool at times…so that certain lemmings would eat it up…
You did a little research only enough to obscure reality. Hitler killed many Christians and Catholics. He hunted down Christain leaders. He banned the Bible from schools. His own secretary- Martin Bormann declared “National Socialism [Nazism] and Christianity are irreconcilable” Millions of Catholics were murdered by the Nazis while thousands of priests were put in camps. So spin on….I would expect no less.
