Bush Is Number One
April 22nd, 2008, 4:20 PM EDT
at being the president with the highest disapproval rating in the history of the 70-year-old Gallup Poll.
In a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Friday through Sunday, 28% of Americans approve of the job Bush is doing; 69% disapprove. The approval rating matches the low point of his presidency, and the disapproval sets a new high for any president since Franklin Roosevelt.

He’s so low that that his rating is finally at eye level for The My Little Ponies’ Poll.

no other president has had to deal with the world issues coupled with the intensity of a rabidness whacko left that president bush deals with. couple this with an in-your-face 24 hr news cycle repeating itself ad nauseum and it would produce low numbers for any president.

Zoey, I’m going to have to respectfully disagree.
Bush’s approval ratings have never been very favorable. What specific world issues do you think Bush has faced that hadn’t been faced by previous presidents? FDR entered his fourth and final term in office with an approval rating of 66%, about 3 years after Pearl Harbor and the US official entrance into WW2. Truman finished WW2, and entered his second term in office with a rating of 64%. Americans don’t have a problem going to war for just causes… we’ve got lots of moxy. What we DON’T like is BS. Case in point, presidents during Vietnam (which was never technically a “war”… part of that BS I mentioned) saw lower approval ratings at the end of their terms. However, Bush the First Moron left office after Desert Storm with a rating of 50%. Clinton left office with a rating of 51%, even after Bosnia and Monica Lewinsky. We’re not mad at Bush the Second for taking us to war, we’re mad at him for lying to us about the war.
Bush the Second isn’t the first Repub who’s had to deal with the “rabidness whacko left”. In fact, his daddy had even more Dems to contend with.
Regarding the 24 hour news cycle… I pretty much agree with that. Unfortunately, too many Americans base their socio-political policy on sound bites they hear from the TV, or in between songs on the radio.
The first link here has a really interesting chart detailing his ratings from the beginning.

Zoey, his rating were at 90% right after 9/11, so I guess I shouldn’t have said “never been”.
April 22nd, 2008 at 6:51 pm
hey there. what i meant by facing something never faced before is the incidiousness of terrorism — it not being a conventional army such as fdr or others faced. and with a 24 hr news cycle — from picking your nose to cursing under your breath — its “out there” via cable, blogs, youtube et al. no other presidency had instantaneous exposure. their “people” could handle “things” before they became public knowledge in many cases. and hey, i like debate. its good for us. :)

Zoey, I think his ratings reflect his incompetence. We are worse off now then when he took office. If it isn’t incompetence then it must be unaffectiveness, either way he just didn’t cut it as Pres.
April 22nd, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Zoey, I totally agree.

It’s hard to believe this is the guy God wanted to be president. He has made us less safe, he has made our military more vulnerable. He has further enraged a people who already hate us.He has not accomplished anything as far as domestic or foreign policy. A failure. As far as people who ask the question, “who will we hate when Bush leaves office” the answer is,him,he has done so much damage to this country that it will be hard to forget for generations to come.
The moderate majority needs to stand up and be counted! It’s what God would want.

Well said jerseyjeff

World War One, the Depression, World War Two, the Red Menace, the Cold War, Vietnam, race riots–I think every President since Washington has faced great challenges, and they are judged by how well they rise to the occasion.
And on the other hand, I no longer believe in the 24-hour “news” cycle, because I see no evidence of “news” on TV, except on Jim Lehrer’s show. And, oddly enough, he’s on once every 24-hours. Hmmm….
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:44 am
The Red Menace? I would rather have Dennis the Menace as president. All those things were defining moments in our history. It’s a question of how you handle them. If all you do is tap dance on the front porch of the White House while rome burns we are sunk!
Come on…this guy is a national embarrassment.
April 23rd, 2008 at 7:03 am
Not to mention that when George W. Bush leaves office he will also leave us with a $9 Trillion national debt. I don’t think he’ll be judged positively in the future.
He is the absolute worst.
April 23rd, 2008 at 10:53 am
Louie, calling Bush a Great American is hilarious. lol
I concur with jerseyjeff, epiphany, rc, and josh. Although I haven’t seen the projected $9 tril debt # yet, but epiph I’m assuming you got it some where reliable? Like maybe the Heritage Foundations website? lol
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:37 am
What, no mention of the even lower ratings for the democrat led congress?
April 23rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm
Cheryl of course I got my number from a reliable source. I got it through Alan’s website alan.com. ;)Hahaha! He also have a real time counter for the on-going cost of the Iraq War. Here is the link from Alan’s site:
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np
The total figure as of this moment is : (dumdedum/drumroll)
$9,354,920,572,952.48
I am willing to chip in the 48 cents to help out.
Here’s another link with a slightly different figure called U.S. NATIONAL DEBT CLOCK:
http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
They say : $ 9,357,589,173,808.61
They also say the estimated population of the United States is 303,861,904 so each citizen’s share of this debt is $30,795.53.
The National Debt has continued to increase an average of $1.49 billion per day since September 29, 2006.
Not too good.

Uh-Oh it says “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”
So I don’t know if anyone can see what I just wrote. I can see it. What did I do wrong lol?
April 23rd, 2008 at 1:29 pm
…ever lower ratings for congress. Those ratings are for the entire institution we call Congress, esp. the obstructing opposition ( it is their job after all). When the question is put differently, like: how do you like the Dem. lead congress you get diff. results..high 30%, still low yet higher then say, oh 28%.
April 23rd, 2008 at 4:59 pm
epiphany~ when it says ‘awaiting moderation’ it’s b/c of the links. that happened to me once before, too.
you are oh, so, generous to chip in the 48 cents. put a note on your tax return in that ‘elective contribution to the govt’ box that no one uses. as louie the liberal and sean hannity would say, you are A GREAT AMERICAN.
