Even McCain Hates This Ad

April 23rd, 2008, 3:13 PM EDT

it’s not enough now to play a game of guilt-by-association with Obama, his pastor and anyone with whom he ever crossed paths. Now, because Bev Perdue, North Carolina’s lieutenant governor, and Richard Moore, the state treasurer, both seeking the Democratic nomination for governor, endorsed Obama, they too are suspect.

So let me get this straight: Obama, and anyone who endorses Obama, is unfit for public office because of what Obama’s preacher once said. How about anyone who ever knew Obama? How about anyone who ever heard of Obama? How about anyone who lives in the same country as Obama? How could we all live in the same country as such a horrible person as Jeremiah Wright? If we had any decency, we’d take off for a far-off land where his kind did not exist. No?

To John McCain’s credit, here is part of a letter he sent to Linda Davies, chair of the North Carolina Republican Party:

“The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats. In the strongest terms, I implore you to not run this advertisement.”

  1. The Cons don’t want diversity. They want everyone to look like them, talk like them, think and act like them, dress like them, marry like them, go to the same church as them, watch the same TV shows as them, and, of course, elect people to public office who are exactly like them. Because if you’re not exactly like them you’re a virus in the body politic and you must be destroyed before your illness metastasizes.

This kind of ad shows how much ethics and integrity really count for in this country. Not one damn thing. Because winning is everything.

  2. blah .. blah .. blah ..

  3. Tsk,
Anyone with a fundamental knowledge of propaganda can see that the phrasing of the headline “EVEN McCain Hates This Ad” is meant to be polarizing.
    Demeaning, even.

McCain said what he thinks about this ad. He did not have to. Wrote it down in a letter for all to see. The letter speaks for itself. Get a life.

    Hooray for John McCain.

PS: “Even BillyC Can See through This Bs”

  4. “Even McCain Hates This Ad”

  5. McCain loves this add…he’ll say he doesn’t…to try and come off like he’s taking the high road. He’s a scumbag!

  6. this ad just plays to racial fears.

why did obama describe his grandma as the typical white person? b/c there truly is a certain kind of reaction that whites have when in certain situations with blacks. all of conservative america got pissed off at that comment, which just pissed ME off. black stereotypes are so prevalent that they’re joked and/or dramatized in movies. white woman walking alone down the sidewalk… black man coming up the sidewalk from the other direction… white woman gets scared.

the creators of this video are contributing to our race issues, but they were smart- they knew exactly what they were doing.

  7. i am generalizing in the above comment, and wouldn’t make a blanket statement about all of white america.

i know what blanket statements about your face feel like.

  8. Don’t these people still have one of their anti-McCain advertisements saved from campaign 2000?

The campaign 2000 ad showcasing McCain’s child by a black prostitute was a “good” one. Let’s see ‘em bring that golden oldie back out of the vault!!

  9. I don’t understand. Is there something in the ad that is not true? Its not relevant that the guy who says he will bring us together has a mentor who is a hater? If McCain had a KKK pastor would he still be in the race? So racism and division are okay if you are black? I don’t get why McCain denounces this. I think this ad is good because it points out the obvious contradiction that Obama represents. He says he is one thing when he is another. If he could mend any differences he would have done so already. He hasn’t even tried. In fact, he is about as partisan as they come- his voting record and platform speak for themselves. We are all supposed to “unite” us under liberalism? It is sad that so many Americans have bought into this lie. I guess people want to believe what they want to believe.

  10. MCCAIN HAS A WIN-WIN SITUATION WITH THIS AD. Every state Repub group can run the ad without asking him, let millions of people see it and then have John heroically come in and make them take it off. The damage is done and John gets the credit as a good guy. He owes Hillary bi time for this gift.

BURT — THAT “SCUMBAG” SPENT THE VAST MAJORITY OF HIS LIFE MAKING AMERICA THE KIND OF PLACE WHERE A MORON LIKE YOU CAN CALL A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE A SCUMBAG WITHOUT GOING TO JAIL. The real shame of your comment is that you’re so cynical that you can’t imagine a person having genuine integrity — maybe you’ve been exposed to democrats for too long.

  12. Would God be proud of everything the US government has taken part in? Would God bless every Law, Act, Bill, Action, or War? Would a God find a place in their heart for war between men (and women)? Would God bless discrimination, hate, bigotry in any form, racism, genocide (native Americans), slavery (though the Bible repeatedly claims it is OK to have slaves, which I find deplorable), industry that pollutes the Earth, womb, water, and air? I don not think any God would bless or feel any pride for the previous statements. I feel that it is arrogant to truly believe that we can know what a god really thinks, but if we could, I would not bet my soul on any possible pride felt by said God due to the way we treat each other. Here is the surprise; I do not care if god exists, is real, or not real, I really see no proof either way. Some would claim, “Oh you are an atheist or agnostic.” Well no, I do not care either way and concern myself with things that can be proven with evidence; yet I still have a moral sense that if there were a God, that God would be pissed.

  13. All one has to do in order for the true interpretation and context of Rev. Wright’s controversial words is the viewing or listening of the entire sermon. Before we judge in violation of Christ’s own words, we should not listen to 10-second clips; rather we should listen to the entire speech. We should also realize that the controversial statement was one sermon out of thousands. This unfortunately is the only issue that republicans and Mrs. Clinton have to attack Obama with. That is the sad state of political debate today.

  14. The issue of being proud of this Nation has come up in terms of Mrs. Obama. Many conservatives have stated that this was some sort of anti-American sentiment. Was Nixon something to be proud of? Has America been angelic in all her actions around the world? Are we proud of the performance of Corporate America and the safety of their products? Are we proud of the way our economy has been handled? Do we feel pride in the scandals that scared world com, Tyco, Enron, Adelphia, ImClone Systems, Arthur Anderson, Cendant, Health South, and many other immoral business actions of the “free market”? If we as citizens were to be proud of the Nation every moment of every day we would not have political parties nor any reason to debate. Are conservatives proud of the UN, Supreme Court, or The New Deal? They seem to argue against them like there is a lack of pride. That is fine. Do Liberals like Water-Boarding, Unitary Presidents, or Pre-Emptive War? I do not think so? The point is “pride” is a sense of satisfaction. I did not realize that being unsatisfied with the way the Nation is going qualified as being un-American or anti-American behavior. Were the Boston Tea Party participants “proud” of their Nation? Was Lincoln “proud” of slavery? I would argue that they were not. I would argue that some of the greatest figures in American History have been those who at some point were not very “proud” of the Nation and felt things had to be altered in order to regain a sense of pride.

Every time a black person mentions the proven historical oppression of their people, some white people scream reverse racism, How sad, how ignorant, and how despicable a claim that some fearful white people are making of the current mud slinging in American politics. If there were a God, that God would not be proud of many of Humanities actions toward Humanity on this planet. Is it a new concept that a religious leader would talk about damnation of actions of individuals, a group, or even a Nation from God? No. J Fawell, P. Robertson, R. Parsly, J. Haggy have all made statements about Liberals, gays, Muslims, the ACLU, The NAACP, and women’s right groups that are not founded in any form of reality. These “tapes” of Jeremiah Wright are full of some things that are the truth and some things that are conjecture like HIV’s origin. His assertion that we brought 911 on ourselves, that statement has a yes and no answer to it, which we are still debating to this very moment. Were we told the complete truth about Iraq? Not according to UK, the Pentagon, or the CIA. The Tuskegee Experiment Really Happened. We are the # 2 weapons supplier to the world. Hiroshima could have been handled better, say dropping the A-Bomb off the coast of Japan thus intimidating them into surrender and saving innocent life. But who knows in hindsight what could have been in that situation. So where is the controversial statement other than the HIV aspect? If you are white, ask yourself, can you really relate to the victims of hundreds of years of hate filled slavery and discrimination? Can you relate to being a Jewish victim of Hitler if you are a Christian and white? No. One could come close. But never, ever really, truly achieving the same level of understanding as the victim.

  15. The debate over Obama’s Church is reminiscent of the backlash to the Civil Rights Movement by southern whites or the refusal to accept the Court decision that allowed for desegregation, thus leading to the showdown in 1957 at Little Rock Cent. High School.
Now all of the sudden religious conservatives are upset over what a preacher or reverend in a Christian Church has to say. For years religious conservatives have said, “How dare people question what goes on in Church,” they consistently scream “freedom of religion” when they come under attack for controversial statements from the pulpit. Now the tables have been magically reversed. Why? It might be the only political weapon in their arsenal. It might be the best they have to combat a potential Democratic candidate for the President of the United States. What theological hypocrites. What a show of contempt for the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, and blatant use of fear of the black man in modern America. What a despicable display of a double standard this has turned out to be. This may scare the conservative agenda in the minds of rational Americans for a long time.

Just because I personally do not agree with the method or some aspects of Jeremiah Wright’s Tapes does not meat that he does not have the right of the freedom of speech. He is still and American and that fact affords him the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, the use of free expression. Yes, he could have used mere tactful language. But since when has the neo-conservative movement been all about political correctness? Every day people like Glen Beck and other Conservative pundits make the case that political correctness is somehow a hindrance to free speech. I would neither agree nor disagree with Mr. Beck butt it is a double standard for Conservatives to throw out political correctness and then expect it from Rev. Wright. Come on. It does not matter if Wright was correct or not in either what he said or how he said it. Because there is not an issue here once you get past the false reverse racism claims being made by conservatives. Yet there are so many double standards with this issue that it make me ill. What is worse is the claim of anti-Semitic by some conservatives pertaining to Palestine. There have been evils conducted by both Palestine and Israel. We could go tit for tat all day on who has committed more unethical acts in the Middle East, though we would be caught up in the same cycle that the Middle East has been for thousands of years. Is Condi Rice or President Carter an anti-Semite for expressing sympathy for both Palestine and a possible two state solution? No! They only wish for an end to the BS that is the political climate of the Middle East. No act of terror either by states or individual groups is acceptable ethical behavior. But that should not preclude people from sympathizing with human suffering of those caught in the stupidity of the Middle East conflict which is driven by religion and years of bilateral retaliation from all sides.
