Using Reverend Wright Against A Mississippi Congressional Candidate

April 28th, 2008, 6:58 PM EDT

Southhaven, Mississippi Mayor Greg Davis, running in a special election for a Congressional seat, tries to tie Travis Childers, his Democratic opponent, to Jeremiah Wright, because Childers was endorsed by “liberal Barack Obama.”

“When Obama’s pastor cursed America, blaming us for 9/11, Childers said nothing.”

“When Obama ridiculed rural folks for clinging to guns and religion, Childers said nothing.”

“He took Obama’s endorsement over our conservative values. Conservatives just can’t trust Travis Childers.”

Shouldn’t we find out who else Obama knows? Who is his dry cleaner? His dentist? Was he ever in a doctor’s waiting room where he engaged in conversation with a nefarious individual? How about cars who might have brushed up next to his at traffic lights? Who was in them? Did he ever brush up against a pedestrian with a questionable past while walking down the street? Perhaps DNA testing could answer this.

  1. Welcome to the beginning of the SWIFT BOATING OF BARACK OBAMA!

and he ain’t the nominee yet!!

    LOL

HELP FIGHT THE GOP SLIM MACHINE!

  2. I thought we were well into the Swift Boating?

  3. hahaha, this reminds me so much of what I recently saw on the Colbert Report!!

Obama was endorsed by Ted Kennedy. Ted Kennedy is a Catholic. Catholics are led by the Pope. The Pope was a Nazi Youth, ergo. Barack Obama loves Hitler.

  4. Michael, I LOVE Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. I’ve read (or should I say LMAO at) all their books.

You know what really pisses me off about these adds? Is that they’re being used in the south. The NC ad and this one, the conservatives know EXACTLY what they’re doing. They’re playing to racial prejudices and fears. It’s as despicable as it is effective… sad, don’t you think?

  5. Very, very sad. There’s so much that makes me sick about this ad….first they call Barack Obama a “liberal”, as if the ideology of their savior Jesus and the founder of their party Abraham Lincoln is a dirty word.

Then, as you said, they play off racial prejudices. I shudder to think how many of them believe that Obama is a Muslim, and for that reason alone won’t vote for him. Hitler was a Christian. Does that make all Christians evil and bloodthirsty?

Then they use guilt by association of association. Childers never had anything to do with the Rev. Wright. But since Obama endorsed him and Wright happens to be Obama’s pastor, that automatically means that Childers agrees with everything the media’s fictionalized sound-bite version of Rev. Wright has to say.

Then, of course, they take a few sound bites of 3 or 4 sermons of Rev. Wright and conclude that he puts the blame completely on America for 9/11 because of all of the evil white people, which, when you listen to the whole sermon, is utter garbage.

Sure, Rev. Wright says some things I don’t agree with. But what’s wrong with him pointing out all of the injustices in our country’s history against blacks and others? I’m convinced that the Rev. Wright that Davis is talking about in this commercial has nothing to do with the actual Rev. Wright that lives on this earth.

  6. Did you know that Stephen Colbert’s real name is Ted Hitler? It is.

  7. Southaven is 90% White, 6% African American. Davis is only tailoring his message to his audience.

Elvis domiciled next door, at Graceland in mostly African-American Whitehaven. What position has Childers taken on the evils of rock-n-roll? Nothing? Childers/Obama endorse all this rock-n-roll and dirty dancing?

Childers and Obama are trying to corrupt your childrens?!! A vote for Childers/Obama is a vote to ruin our childrens!!

  8. Well the blacks can [preach] politics, but I prefer keeping religion OUT of my politics and visa versa!
THEY can HAVE the rev. wright, jesse, al, AND barac hussien obama. [new rap group] LOL!

  9. The 4 EMPTY SUITS.

  10. I have no problem trashing Reverend Wright, as I have no problem trashing some cheezy right wing theocon bigmouth too. But this kind guilt by 3rd degree association crap is really pathetic. Obviously they must be aiming it at a real pinhead crowd of good old all american idiots.

  11. Why do I get the feeling God is going to use this against us? (Well some of us)

  12. Noel~ did I hear you call Alan tonight? And how do you think God will use this against us? I don’t understand your comment…

  13. Hey Cheryl, yeah that was me, the one with all the yelling and screaming. :P

Oh, what I mean is the levels of ridiculousness this Reverend Wright hysteria has reached.

Check out my blog from last week!

  14. Oh and the “against us” part means the eventual “God Damning” of America when “Revelations” comes to pass and the whole world goes to plad.

    And then Judgement day.

(Did I just get preachy? Sorry.)

  15. Dude, I already read and commented on it. Duh! :-D

btw, are you on the ship i mentioned?

  16. Oh hey Cheryl! I didn’t know you were CHERYL. I thought you were some other Fredricksburg-less Cheryl. Doh.

Negative…USS Gonzalez. You know I waited like an hour and a half to get on air tonight. Sheesh.

I better go to bed I have a whole ‘nother day of arguing to do tommorow.

    Peace.

  17. Well, we’re certainly well into political “silly season” aren’t we?!

  18. I think these ads will fail~!! I guess the people in Mississippi aren’t smart enough to know the difference between a lie and the truth…….At least that’s what the Republicans would like them to think. What’s worse, a Republican president lying about the facts of the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil, or a prophetic pastor telling the truth about what has been propagandized for so long. Not to excuse Jeremiah Wright’s spectacle at the National Press Club, but he has been correct about a great many things, especially foreign policy pertaining to Sept 11, 2001…why is it that both he and Rep. Ron Paul have stated the fact that the U.S.’s policy towrds the Middle East did contribute to Sept. 11, 2001? I guess it is better to have an ignorant society, than one that is allowed to think for themselves.
