Bush Vs. Martha Raddatz

April 29th, 2008, 6:28 PM EDT

The president got testy at Tuesday’s news conference with ABC’s Martha Raddatz, who had the nerve to try a second follow up to her first question, “Are we winning in Afghanistan?” After Bush avoided answering the question, Martha asked, again.

Q But do you think we’re winning? Do you think we’re winning?

THE PRESIDENT: I do, I think we’re making good progress. I do, yes.

Q Can I just add to that, a couple weeks ago –

THE PRESIDENT: No, you can’t. This is the second follow-up. You usually get one follow-up, and I was nice enough to give you one. I didn’t give anybody on this side a follow-up, and now you are trying to take a second follow-up.

Q They didn’t try.

THE PRESIDENT: I know you try.

Yes.

Q Can I just say –

THE PRESIDENT: They just cut off your mic. You can’t, no.

Q A couple weeks ago you said –

THE PRESIDENT: Now she’s going to go without the mic. This is awesome. (Laughter.)

Q A couple weeks ago you said that in Iraq, in 2006, you said we were winning and the strategy was working to keep up troop morale.

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q How can we believe that you’re not doing the same thing here?

THE PRESIDENT: You tried to ask me that question before. It’s a repeat. Look, I said –

Q No, I’m talking –

THE PRESIDENT: Can I finish, please? The question you asked me before at the exclusive I gave you on the ranch was: You said that we were winning in the past. I also said that there was tough fighting. Make sure you put the comments in place.

So what I’m going to tell you now is, we’re making progress in Afghanistan, but there’s tough fighting. I’m under no illusions that this isn’t tough. I know full well we’re dealing with a determined enemy. I believe it’s in our interest that we defeat that enemy. And so, yes, we’re making progress. But it’s also a tough battle. We’re facing people who are willing to strap bombs on themselves and walk into places where the innocent dwell, or the innocent shop, and kill them.

  1. Presidents really should use the word “awesome” so much. Course we already know he’s a fool.

  2. He just can’t get any respect. I wonder why?

  3. Bu$h is a scumbag of epic proportions. He is too fraid to answer follow up questions because he is too stupid to spin his bullshit in real time! Not that the US media is any better. You get the odd ‘journalist’ with the jam to ask a tough question but most of them are too afraid of being excluded from the scrum. The mainstream media is a joke…either that or it’s doing exactly what the corporate masters want it to. Of all the news worthy stuff that went on today, from McCains blatherings to Bu$h fantasy about the benefits of drilling in Alaska or more deaths in Iraq…it’s all about some mouth piece pulpit blowhard and his association with a doomed candidate. McCain will win because the sheep will elect him.

  4. Not being the best orator = fool?

  5. Awwwwwww shuckles!! no video on this one?

    Bummer

You have to see this. Watch Bush lose his temper and make a complete fool of himself. Priceless.

  9. I’m sorry folks, but the passion in Bush’s voice at the end of his response to her made me feel REALLY good. Everything he said right then, I totally agree with. I don’t think he made a fool of himself with that comment. In fact, if he’d taken us to war with that kind of passion, and placed that passion and blame in the right place, I’d most likely be in support of the war.

  11. Well, lets see. Everyone seems to think he’s a fool. So far, the Democrats haven’t been able to impeach him. Since taking over the House and Senate, they’ve managed to bumble their way into doubling gasoline prices. They promised troop reductions if you’d elect them and with full power of both houses, didn’t prevent the Surge . . . The reporters call him a fool and many of us do too, but he’s in the White House . . .

Maybe it’s time to wake up. He’s no fool. I’m afraid we are.

  12. So many fools in the world….

  13. Flagold, didn’t you hear the caller during radio graffiti tonight who said “real men love bush”? Bush supporters aren’t fools, they’re “real men”.

Anyway, you raise an interesting point. However I think that many Americans are just too busy with their day to day lives to pay attention to what’s going on. You know?

  14. Bush has been attacked for everything by liberals who are clueless and just full of hate. The liberal media who can’t wait to elect a socialist for President has done everything they can to distort the truth about President Bush. If I was President Bush, I would have laughed at her and said what don’t you understand. You must been educated in a government school and drink the liberal kool-aid.

  15. I actually tuned into MSNBC to see the blowup live.
And so, his approval rating sinks to new lows daily. Soon, only the lemmings and the earthworms will support him. His dog has probably already given up.

  16. after having an amazing success at his candidacy reverend wright comes in and ruins his party of success no wonder obama is fuming

  17. Poor Bush. Being President is hard work. Especially when he has pesky reporters trying to do their jobs. Damn them!

  18. CheesyPoofs, lol. But that blow up yesterday was the first time I’d seen any passion and honesty from Bush in a long time. I actually voted for him in 2000.
