Let’s See McCain Get Out Of This One
McCain said Friday he wanted to reduce our dependence on Middle East oil “that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.” Hours later, when he realized that he’d said we’re fighting the current Iraq war for oil, he then claimed, “No, no, I was talking about that we had fought the Gulf War for several reasons.”
If you look what he originally said, it’s clear he was talking about the current war.

McCain also had to recant remarks that last year’s Minneota bridge callpase was because of pork barrel spending. On Wednesday, McCain said:
“I think there is a long, long list of earmarks which went to unnecessary and unwanted projects that I think should have gone to the bridge in Minnesota.”
But by Friday he was rewriting history:
“No, I said it would have received a higher priority, which it deserved.”

Well, let me play devil’s advocate for a moment.
I sent my son outside for the newspaper this morning. I sent him outside a few hours later to get the mail. Both times I was sending him to the same place, but for totally different reasons. So perhaps all he meant was that the troops wouldn’t have to go back to the same location, whether the reason for the trip was the same or not.
However, given his recent series of flip-flops I can see how this is being taken as a “we’re in Iraq for oil” statement. (I’m having trouble understanding that argument, b/c we get most of our oil from Canada and Mexico… I really am confused, so feel free to enlighten me.)
Did anyone hear McCain’s recent sound bite on health care? His sentence structure was totally confusing… I thought I was listening to W.

Well, one exit strategy would be to discuss the questionable, unsustainable federal entitlements that are a ++ungood cloud on the horizon.
But, to paraphrase Col. Jessup: that’s some truth just can’t handle.
Back on topic: sure, the oil. But really now: how much off-the-record chat do you think is going on amongst the gulf governments and the US? Really?

Alan, I was unable to watch H&C tonight, but I hope that you brought this up on there.
And I hope the so-called Main Stream Media covers this too.

like Ive seen in a previous post, can we vote none of the above??

Alan-
I am a conservative and I feel that they only reason we are in Iraq is because of oil. Now that being said, I think that we should be there. The safe and stable Iraqi region is a matter of national security. If countries like Iraq fall into the hands of Iran or worse AlQeda the will destabilize the region and cause oil prices to skyrocket. A free flow of oil is in everyones best interest. If the US had its own supplies, I believe that we would not be there and the region would not the muscle to cause the stir they currently do.

The indeed the war is over oil then we’d better win it.

I predict the lines of SUVs headed to the lake/beach this Memorial Day will be very long.

Would someone please tell me why we’re in Iraq for oil when we get most of our oil from the Americas??? For real, I don’t get it.

Honestly,I don’t think we’ll ever know the truth about this war. It’s so much more complex than terrorists and oil.

Once it’s out of the ground and loaded for transport, petroleum becomes a fungible commodity. It doesn’t matter where the petroleum comes from, once it’s loose in the world market.
One of my favorite Bush quotes of late was his recent, “oil is fungible; even though we get most of our oil, by the way, from Canada and Mexico, oil is fungible.”
He’s trying to have it both ways. Or, he doesn’t understand the words that come out of his own mouth.

Last poster here, maybe someone will read this.
Cheryl, true we only get around 22% of our oil from Iraq but the belief is that the Bush/Cheney plan was..
1.) Invade Iraq/dipose Saddam
2.) Greeted as liberators
3.) Swim in free oil
Of course the plan went to plad.
Of course Bush/Cheney has been telling us (and Mcain) the war is for Freedom! for Security! for America!
This was no slip. It was exactly as we called out years ago.
What’s interesting is how quick conservatives rally and protect Mcain saying..
“He didn’t say it like he wanted!”
“Why are you liberals such assholes! Don’t you ever mess up a phrase?”
These are the same intellectuals who vehemently destroyed Obama when he said historically poor rural workers are “bitter” and cling to legislations of arms and religion.
So we continue to play this silly silly game.
Too bad the prize is America.

Thanks, Noel. No one else would give me a theory on this.
Well, I’m sittin’ here waiting for the girls to drive down from Woodbridge so that we can go to downtown. While I was waiting I decided to hit the gas station and buy a bottle of Boone’s Strawberry Hill, and surf the net readin’ up on the stuff I like to read about. I’m such a nerd. I didn’t fully realize it until last year when I took a book to a wedding, and my friends called me on it. But I was like, shit, I need something to do during the down time. I put the book away when it was time to drink and shake it fast. I think it’s a nice balance.
