Annie, I can’t find the answer to your riddle. I’m thinking that it’s got something to do with a play on the word/name ‘bush’?
Zoey~ Yes, I’m “Cheryl in Fredericksburg”. Noel replied to a comment I made where I identified myself, and he said “Ohh I thought you were some other Fredericksburg-less Cheryl” lol
Annie~ no, it didn’t strike me as strange. I was a sophomore in college and totally clueless about world events. All I understood at the time was the emotional impact. Interestingly enough, I was a student at Lynchburg College. Lynchburg is Falwell’s city (Liberty Univ is there as well as his church) and I followed the “let’s go get the bastards” sentiment that most of the adults around me were expressing. You don’t have to be a student to be clueless, and not all students are ignorant of political issues, but I was.
Initially I don’t mind helping Iraq, or any other country in this situation, since we owe it for what we’ve done to it, but I do mind putting soldiers’ lives on the line when it seems a great segment of the Iraqi population is responsible for the threats and deaths that define that risk. Frankly, the more they shoot at us, the less I think we owe them more than money. I can worry about long term consequences, but I’m not inclined to take jabs and slowly bleed in order to avoid them.

I believe Mr. Obama is recieving criticism which is fair game for persons offended by Rev Wright’s sounding off for these people fear Obama secretly harbors much of the black church theology behind it. Since there are adequate historical reasons for much of that belief system, one has to be drawn to the vast difference in life experiences between holders and non-holders of the views. Mr Obama must always have known that racial issues would boil to the surface despite most people of good will trying their utmost to supress their innate predudices. Some still sadly share the beliefs of their fathers and grandfathers regarding racial equality and need for equal opportunity. I personally favor Mrs. Clinton as Democratic candidate because I feel she is the best candidate, but it is a close call between two elegent candidates and I will gladly offer my full support and enthusiasm for Mr. Obama should he win the nomination. He is bright, clever, enthusiastic, refreshing and I believe capable of the Presidency. If he does not succeed in gaining the nomination, the reason should not be because of racial predudice or the words of his preacher. I hope people will pause before blaming him for Rev Wright’s opinions.

I have no idea what ‘pic pick’ means… I’m assuming it means ‘open thread’?
My position on the Iraq War is probably going to be as abhorrent to many of you. I believe that we should not just pull out. An immediate departure without assisting the country rebuild itself will just encourage a new generation of terrorists to hate us, thereby creating an increased potential for future terrorist attacks.
We’re already there. I don’t like it, in fact I hate it. I’m furious about the lies we were sold to go into this war. I use that anger to educate myself and ensure that I don’t fall for similar bullshit in the future. But then I take a look at what’s happening NOW, and how my anger with Bush and his crew cannot influence my decision on the most responsible course of action.
I don’t know what the answer to Iraq is. I think I’m in support of more troop withdrawals, but with a remaining presence in the country for a predetermined amount of time to assist the Iraqi military.
With that being said my dear LiberalLand friends, I am prepared for you to bash me… :-D

btw, I ordered Alan’s book RED, WHITE, & LIBERAL last night. I’ve read pretty favorable reviews online, so I’m praying that it doesn’t convert me. ;-)

Cherylcarroll:
Just a question. Didn’t it strike you as strange that Bush wanted to annhialate Saddam Hussein, daddy Bush’s arch enemy? I knew when he was trying to sell the Iraq war that he had an ax to grind.
BTW, there was a joke going around during the time of daddy Bush’s presidency:
What do pantyhose and Saddam Hussein have in common?
