Bush Played Golf After He Said He Didn’t

May 14th, 2008, 11:33 PM EDT

President Bush told Mike Allen of the Politico that he gave up golf on August 19, 2003, it turns out that is not true.

…the Associated Press reported on Oct. 13, 2003, that he’d spent a “cool, breezy Columbus Day” playing “a round of golf with three long-time buddies.

“Bush played at Andrews Air Force Base with Clay Johnson, Office of Management and Budget deputy director, Richard Hauser, Department of Housing and Urban Development general counsel and another friend, Mike Wood.”

William Wolfrum of worldgolf.com put it best:

“Bush has spent more time on vacation than any other president. . . . He’s never attended a slain soldier’s funeral. He’s spent time fishing and endlessly clearing brush on his ranch, and attending his daughter’s lavish wedding, among other things. But golf? Well, that would just send the wrong signal to the thousands killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families.”

  1. wow Bush lied?

there’s a shocker ladies and gentlemen!

  2. Olbermann’s special comment tonight summed up Bu$h’s patheticness rather well.

  3. Who really cares whether or not he plays golf? Like Louie said, the fact that he lied about it isn’t really a shocker. But it doesn’t really bother me at all in this case.

  4. This man’s term as president will not be over soon enough.

The following is a repost of a comment I made under Alan’s original thread on this topic:

The above is a pic of him driving a golf cart at Camp David in 2007… I guess he was just driving the cart and no golf balls?

  5. Who cares. Obama lies all the time. Now he put on the lapel pin after you showed his good friend Ayers stopping the flag. Fool trickery for the voters.

  6. DyAnn, I noticed that too. He thinks it’s safe to campaign for the general election, and I think that’s going to be his downfall. BIG mistake to count Hillary out.

  7. Why don’t you hold congress responsible for what they are not doing. Their job, working for the people. Throw the bums out.Nancy Pelosi first!!!!!!

  8. Well I’m sure what he meant to say was that he would not play golf on August 19, 2003, or that he was giving up playing at a particular golf course, or, really, that he was “giving up” in the sense of being discouraged with his game and so would not bother keeping score any more.

  9. So much for sacrifices.

  10. Maybe he meant ‘putt-putt’ golf.

  11. He really meant he was giving up miniature golf, not the grown-up kind.

  12. Big deal…WOW, he played Golf?

Grow up, maybe in August he had pretty much given up on it, but in Oct, which is AFTER August, someone talked him into giving it another try because THEY like to play Golf and it was a goal of theirs to play Golf with a President…whooptie doo…just more liberals making mountains out of molehills…sheez, don’t you people have anything better to do?

  13. Well, just speaking for myself, I could go out and play some golf, but really I gave it up.

  14. Boogieman and Epiphany~ LMAO

Sneuman~ some people are objective and able to cut the knife both ways. I can assure you that Alan and most of the posters here are equally critical (if not more so!) of liberals caught in a lie… although that doesn’t happen often, finding a lying liberal with some kind of secret life.

  15. Technically, it’s only a “lie” if the “false statement was made with a deliberate intent to deceive and it was an intentional untruth”.

I think it’s obvious Mr. Bush believes every word that comes out of his mouth.

He’s therefore not a “liar”. He’s mad. Feel better now?

  16. DyAnn:
Since all the major f#$%-ups were made during a republican held congress, shouldn’t we throw THEM out?

  17. In other news, California is headed in the fabulous direction, if you’ll forgive the word play.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080515/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage

“California Supreme Court overturns gay marriage ban”

Hopefully, other states will follow the lead. Too late for backwards thinking Va.

  18. Who cares?

  20. Welcome.

  21. Bush and Cheney are not sensitive to loss of soldiers because after all, they volunteered! Same reason to deny them a useful new GI Bill of Rights…they might get educated rather than re-upping and then who will fight the administration’s war? I’d rather they play gold than President and VP…after all, when they’re on the job is when they really f/u!

  22. So,are our leaders to totally stop participating in things that average citizens enjoy to prove their commitment and loyalty to our troops?
As far as the Presidents golfing, the only problem I see with it is that he stated that he’d stopped. Why he’d say something like that then go golfing is beyond me,but really, look at some of the other stuff this fella has said.
What he needs is to create a Silly Statement Repair Team to follow him around.

  23. Craig~ our political leaders have had such a team for decades. I believe the official name is “Spin Doctors”. lol However, I think that they’ve had to double their membership with W in office.

  25. So Bush played golf after he said he didn’t?
    No surprise here.
Oh Bushey, don’t worry, you’ll have more time to play with the rest of your little GI Joes as well, when you get to leave in January.

  26. You know there’s a G.I. Joe movie in the works? I’m betting it will be crap.
