Who Really Hates America?

It’s extremely troubling that the rhetoric in this country among Americans is so poisoned. Talk radio, a largely conservative medium, gins up emotions about how horrible, how evil, how un-American liberals are. You’d think the the real enemy is not al Qaeda, not jihadists, not fascists, but that American liberals are the true enemy of conservatives. I am reminded of this having just received this email:
From: Linda
Sent: Thursday, May 15, 2008 9:30 PM
To: Alan
Subject: LiberalsYou sir, and your demons in league always throw the Republicans in there….Gas prices didn’t go up until the democrats got in there and a whole lot of other people. You need to shut up. Your party is the most evil that have ever been in politics. I don’t care what republican Pres. you bring up….I can’t wait….when your Obama gets in …IF he gets in…you and your Left wings liberals…and I mean the big guys will be so sorry….because no matter good things might look, it won’t be good. I hate the government. They are all crooked, and the few who are honest and up to what they should be need to fight a little harder.
I have grandchildren and great grandchildren and I am so afraid for them.
There is so something wrong…with you all.
Pres. Bush may have taken a shot, but you s–t heads have done nothing but say bad things about him. I am glad he is fighting back. And even though I don’t care that much about Bush….I definitely hate the Left wing Liberals.
Oh, and I have a best friend who is a conservative democrat….and even she is afraid of what is going to happen.
Newt should have run for President….he is by far the best…and would you tear him apart like you do with every republican…sure you would…because you are an idiot…like the rest.
Love ya Alan….
You gotta marvel at how “good Americans”, good, God-fearing Christian folk, the ones who “love thy neighbor”, and consider themselves to be decent people with “values”, support invading foreign countries rather than talking to them; and at how they reserve their most palpable hate for their fellow countrymen and women, evil liberals who are all idiots. And from do they get this hatred? Is it genetic? A gene pool gone bad? Or are they emotionally steamed up by their friends, their loved ones and those who publicly tear down us horrible, despicable, America-hating liberals? And how about that knife-twisting “Love ya Alan”?

My brain can’t process anymore hate right now. It’s been a long week.

May 15th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
AJ~ Zack and Directorpooh were joking. You know, a joke, to make you laugh? A bit of comic relief in response to all this lady’s negativity. The whole purpose of this blog is political debate.

*There is unjustified hatred of the USA.
Whoever is in charge, whoever is powerful or successful will also be hated. This immature hatred often evaporates quickly with a little reason or thought. The second section of this essay lists some invalid, unjustified criticisms. The most widespread hate is the hate by people the world over who fall victim to their own shortcomings, and want a scapegoat.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
I cannot bring myself to hate America, I find that its foreign policies are increasingly unacceptable and its current government’s attitude to some of the issues below (pollution, environment, arms race) is appalling, immature and short sighted.
But girls and boys, during the times I have spent in America I have kind of fallen in love with it simply b/c it is my home.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
I do truly believe that people like that, as well as the others who write hate mail to Alan, are a very miserable lot. They have a lot of problems and frustrations in their life and instead of dealing with the situation at hand, blame others and other groups for their misery. They truly are angry and bitter and get their juices flowing when they listen to hard right wingers spew forth their venom on talk radio. It validates their fear and rage. It gives them a scapegoat. Many in fact. Liberals, Democrats, black people, Mexicans, Muslims, gays, Jews, public schools, college professors, Hollywood, all of science, environmentalists, you name it.
They also strike me as being control freaks. They need other people to be like them, live like them, speak like them in order to validate their lives. No, I’m not a psychiatrist but that’s how I see it.
I know some liberals can be like this as well but not to the extent that so many conservatives are. I would never write a letter like that to any conservative talk host.
Barack Obama was right about clinging to their bibles and guns. But they mostly cling to their fear, insecurity and hatred.
They remind me more, with their usual desire for pain, suffering and death on people who are different, not to mention censorship on liberals, of the German people in 1930’s Germany.
A few months ago, I heard a caller on the Rush Limbaugh show who was talking about Muslims say, “hey forget the Muslims, it’s the liberals who should be in concentration camps.” Host and caller thought that was hysterical.

America is like that mother who is a cocaine addict, a severe alcoholic, and just a druggie addict all the way around… she’s the most awesome and most loving deep down. But I still love her and respect her because she’s my mother. She was good to me in some way….
—-ok, this was a bad example. Next.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
I think AJ was joking as well, but was addressing Alan.
May 15th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
Vexen is right. There is plenty of unjustified hatred though.
So which countries are known to set the best examples?
#1. Sweden
#2. Denmark
#3. Netherlands
America, nowhere near the top 10 list. =(
But that lady Linda who wrote to Alan sure needs a chill pill or forgot to take her anti-depressants.

STOP POURING GAS ON THE FLAMING RACE ISSUE
By scorpi2000 – May 15th, 2008 at 5:19 pm EDT
There is clearly a fear in white America, that a black American, can objectivly and without bias be the leader of thier country. The same country that no one other than one of them has ever been in charge of.
I believe and see that because of the past discrimination of African Americans some of white Americans may feel that an African American would be a possible risk being President of this country.
Some of them might feel that we may treat them the way some of them have treated us. THIS IS NOT TRUE BY ANY MEANS. but some may truely fear this. I think this is one of the reasons Barack is under the microscope in such an exrteme way.
Thats why what J Wright and Farhkan say are so alarming to some and what I concider as insensitive and counter productive. These fears that exist are real and must be adressed with extreem sensitivity. It must be taken as seriuos as our sensitivities to their veiw and treatment of us as black Americans.
The fact that they are concidering the possibility of a black President shows me that for one, many Americans are changing their views about race, and are now open, for what ever reasons, to give a black man a try.
So I think we should be sensitive to their fears of us, just like we would like them to be sensitive to our fears and suspicions of them.
LETS MOVE FORWARD AND BREAK DOWN THESE RACIAL BARRIERS
BARACK OBAMA IS THE ONE PERSON IN THIS PRESIDENTIAL RACE THAT CAN DO IT.
THANKS
SCORPI2000 OBAMA 08
May 15th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
Fear? pffft, fear in America? I thought we were all tough as steel.
J wright and Farhkan are no threat to me. I was raised in a bi-racial family. Mom was white and daddy black. I have seen both worlds and think they are both quite beautiful. I still do not understand why discrimination is still such an issue! Why are we so divided?
May 15th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Because people are ignorant and careless. Because they would rather believe what they are told than find out the truth for themselves. Because we are all really, really tired. Just tired.
An then there are some of us who are all juiced up on hate. Why? because we have so many problems and stresses that we want to blame someone, anyone. As soon as someone points a finger, we’re all too glad to join in.
(notice how I said “we”? even though I don’t identify with folks who behave this way, I can understand…)
May 15th, 2008 at 11:18 pm
(… how they feel. Life is hard.)
Discrimination: I do NOT get. What’s going on? I feel like I grew up in a more tolerant era! Are we going backward?
May 15th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
wow Sky.
I could not had said it any better.
May 15th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
It boils down to a world where counselors need counseling themselves and psychologists need to seek treatment of their own as well.
May 15th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
After listening to to sky and rod I feel a little hopeful
thanks
scorpi2000
May 15th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
No, we’re not going backwards. In fact, I’m reminded of that line from “I, Claudius”: Let all the poisons that lurk in the mud hatch out.
And it could be a really interesting catharsis.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:22 am
People don’t often think when composing e-mails. I believe that’s why when some of these people spew hatred via e-mail they don’t really realize what they’re writing. Now, that does not excuse it, but I think it does mitigate it a bit. I can almost guarantee that many if not most of these people are probably very kind in day-to-day life, even to people they disagree with. The “love ya Alan” might also be a way to signal, “Hey, this e-mail is tongue-in-cheek and I’m exaggerating.” Again, it’s still unacceptable and I’d personally never send such profane language to even my worst enemy.
I don’t think any conservative talk radio hosts think liberals are evil or horrible. They do use loaded and charged rhetoric (which you might consider “poisoned”), detest what liberals believe in, and consider many liberal positions to be unamerican. That is, policies that would generally push our country down a path away from her roots could be considered unamerican. I know liberals think many conservative ideas are unamerican or inhumane or outdated as well.
Ahem, don’t paint too broad a stroke, Alan. Conservatives don’t want to just start invading countries rather than talking to them. Depends on the country and the circumstances. Sovereignty is meaningless and should NOT be respected by the world if you as a country pose some sort of imminent threat. We disagree on what an “imminent threat” constitutes.
And liberals are definitely the POLITICAL enemies of conservatives and vice versa! That doesn’t mean we have to hate each other.
May 16th, 2008 at 4:24 am
Hmmm, well, I suspect that the people penning these missives know very well what they’re writing, though possibly they’re just venting.
And if we’re all Americans, and we all believe in the best that America represents, and the promise inherent in American ideals, then even if we can’t exactly agree on how our ideals should be worded “we the people”, libs and cons alike, should be able to view each other as political rivals or opponents, but not as “enemies.”
The problem with our knee-jerk media, our Joe Six-pack journalism, the gum-chewing pundits everywhere, and much of the hysterical rhetoric on talk radio, and elsewhere, is that it appeals to the worst tendencies of the human animal, and encourages bad manners, and bad behavior.
We should all be better than that.
May 16th, 2008 at 8:20 am
OMG! Alan, the crazies are coming out of the woodwork…or should I say worms~!! She sounds like a very angry frustrated old woman who is so mad at the world…she only likes to complain, more than do anything to change her miserable life, or get help to. I will pray for her, and all those who are like her…..and I do hope there aren’t that many…..These are sad little people who need the rest of us to help them cope~
May 16th, 2008 at 10:56 am
Seems FLAP hasn’t spent much time listening the Savage (or what ever his real name is).
A real hate filled bomb thrower.
May 16th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Randi Rhodes…there are exceptions that prove the rule. I should have said “not many” rather than “any.”
May 16th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Michael Savage makes Rhandi Rhodes look like Mother Theresa.
May 16th, 2008 at 1:13 pm
Ain’t that the truth. I’ve heard Savage and he hates everybody!
But that’s okay because, like Hannity, he’s just preaching to his choir.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Does Rhodes go on and on about some restaurant?
May 16th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Michael Savage’s real name is Michael Weiner.
There’s a joke in that somewhere but I can’t quite finger it.
May 16th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Finger my weiner?
May 16th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
Lol, Epiphany. I’ve never heard his show, so I’ll take your word for it.
Did anyone see THE DAILY SHOW’s recap of the WV primary?
May 16th, 2008 at 3:05 pm

I tried to post the link twice for the Jon Stewart video but LiberalLand won’t let me. Just takes me to the top of this thread after I hit “submit comment.”
But yes I did see it. HILARIOUS!

I love this big ship we all are sailing in.
The big ship called America.
Best ship in the World.
But those republican guys, who have been at the helm for the past 8 years, have steered us all in the wrong direction.
Half of the passengers saw the storm in front of us years ago, while the other half just blindly trusted their lead.
They kept telling everybody theres gold just beyond the horizon, dont worry trust us.
Everyone that tried to say somthing got labeled a traitor, and accused of hating the great ship America.
The other ships warned them not to go in this direction years ago too, they got told the same thing.
Weve lost over 4000 good men, and are runnig low on rashions.
Its going to take forever to get us back into calm waters.
I think its time to make them walk the plank, so we can turn this ship around, before we all go down.
Its time for liberals to take the helm.

scorpi2000,
If becoming a novelist is a career choice forget it. You lose the readers after the first few sentences. Your books won’t sell.
May 17th, 2008 at 8:06 am
Fear of blacks being in control? You really have an inflated opinion of your race huh? What a condecending comment! That comment shows the inherent bigoted attitudes within the left wing blacks.
Thanks for trying to understand us poor fearful whites shivering in the corner at the thought of a black president.
If I ,as a white man, can’t understand the black race and what could cause Mrs. Obama to make her “proud” statement then you as a black man can’t understand the white race and make comments and assumtions on how we feel.
May 17th, 2008 at 1:15 pm
Scorpi~ Interesting poem, man. I like every part of it, except for the end where you write “Obama 08″ LOL
Craig~ what are you talking about? I can’t find what you’re quoting.
May 17th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Sky and Rod~ I have not the strength to discuss racism and prejudice at this time. I’m all pooped out with that subject…
May 17th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Cheryl, look a few posts up from the 15th that scorpi submitted about the white perspective of having a black president. I assume it was that qoute you were questioning and not the “proud” one of Mrs.Obama.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:35 pm
My comment to scorpi was in response to his poem. I didn’t see the comment you were talking about, but just looked thru them again. The closest I can come to is this:
“There is clearly a fear in white America, that a black American, can objectivly and without bias be the leader of thier country”
I agree with his statement. Did you see THE DAILY SHOW wrap-up of the WV primary? Do you know that there are people who question the competency of a black and other minorities to handle any job above menial labor? I’d say that most whites don’t feel that way ANYMORE, and perhaps scorpi should have more clearly stated that there was a fear in “some” of white America. But I can’t speak for him.
Currently, our society only sees blatantly anti-black sentiment from groups like The National Alliance, Libertarian Socialist Green Party, The Heathen Front, and the prison favorite Aryan Brotherhood.
May 17th, 2008 at 7:26 pm
The Libertarian Socialist Green Party? Who?
May 17th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Libertarian National Socialist Party at http://www.nazi.org
May 18th, 2008 at 12:46 am
Libertarian National Socialist Green Party is the correct name, my bad
May 18th, 2008 at 12:46 am
The Heathen Front! Bawahahaha! You’ve got to love this country.
