This Is Driving Me Crazy

May 19th, 2008, 11:41 PM EDT

Because I scoffed at the idea that Hillary suporters will abandon the Democratic Party if she is not the nominee, I am the getting lots of email as part of some organized campaign from people who are saying they’ll vote for McCain if Hillary is not the nominee.  This is also a big subject on my radio show.  Steve Corbett at WILK is behind something called Operation Turndown.

  5. 1) I know quite a few liberals that will not vote for Obama in a GE, because he is too liberal for them.
    2) Carter, who Bush was referring to with his comments, is an appeaser. Obama is also an appeaser, but Bush was not referring to him.

  6. Alan, you ain’t the only one.

on my myspace page of (myspace.com/DemocraticParty), we have democrats starting petitions informing people not to vote for Obama if Hillary doesn’t get the nomination. And the other way around..

but i think by november, in iraq, high gas prices, healthcare costs, etc, i think the majority of democrats will vote for either candidate no matter who is the nominee.

same thing happen in 2004, not much difference in 2008.

but our nominee will have to work hard to get the confidence of the other half of the democratic party voters

  7. Hi Alan,

I can’t believe the Clinton supporters who will not vote Obama if he’s the nominee.

The war, tax breaks for middle income Americans aside (which are more than enough), this country has 50 million uninsured. Barack Obama’s plan it to insure every single child in our country.

To not vote for Obama in favor of McCain is to turn your back on every child in this country because of partisan and personal politics.

This is not in the Democratic tradition and this year is far too important to let the Presidency get away from the actions that will benefit those Americans who have not the means to get by in life.

Democrats, we are better than this. Support the Dem nominee, whoever it is.

  8. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned eh?

Too often I talk to my woman friends about sexism and racism as if both were on equal footing and I’m sorry to say (at risk of irrating my woman readers) that we’re talking mountains and mole hills here.

Sexism exists. There are thousands perhaps hundreds of thousands that will not vote for a woman. They believe woman are weak and they think them less intelligent.

Racism is worse. It has always been worse and black racism in America is worse. And there are millions of people, woman and men, who hate blacks just cause they’re black.

I found Alan’s response puzzling tonight when he seemed to find it difficult to understand unconcious racism. (This applies to sexists too) Racists who feel they don’t have a racist bone in their body, racists who admit to having black friends and black co-workers but would cringe if a black man came home with their daughter.

Voters who come up with lame excuses to not vote for a black candidate. Excuses that come far too easy for people who fail to admit the feelings of superiority and prejudice that lurk within their hearts.

I think woman in America who feel cheated by Barack play into the media’s assertion that she’s being pushed out cause she’s a girl.

It’s just not true that pundits are saying Hillary is done because she’s a female. (An assertion Hillary is partly feeding into and encouraging in American woman.)

We watch these pundits on Fox, CNN, and NBC because they’re smart, well-informed, and capable at navigating the political mine fields for us. (Some smarter than others….I’m looking at you Fox.)

Hillary is done. She’s been done for a long time. The math is against her and it always has been. If I had to wage a month’s pay as to who would get the nomination I would have told you 2 months ago what I’m about to tell you now.

Barack Obama is the democratic presidential nominee.

People refused to vote for Hillary for many reasons, and yes partly because she’s a woman. (But exit polls suggest this number is in the low single digits where racism is openly accounted for in the mid 20’s.)

Some feel she has been very manipulative. She yells at Barack one day claiming mis-doings and hugs him the next. Her arguments rarely follow through to him face to face and she calculates deceptively where Obama has refused to attack her on many campaign points that are open to him.

(Republicans have a long laundry list of Clintonian politics to remind us of that Obama has steered clear of)

Many feel Obama is correct when he talks of bitterness and apathy, gas tax gimmicks, and foreign policy change -all points Hillary has attacked.

Obama has stood against Hillary on the issues and on principle and agree or not you have to see that Obama’s appeal is less that he’s a man and more that he’s just plain ol’ Barack.

    And Muslim.

Heh, just kidding, sheesh people do you really want 4 more years of Bush?

  9. hillary forgot about this country long time ago,its all about hillary/slick willy getting into office and bilking the public for enough money to retire on.

just ask any new york state citizen what she has done for jobs, health care & what makes you think she can be president of the usa ??

  10. Oh please Kris, go tell that bullshit to your buddies over at Hannity’s forum.

  11. If Hillary does not get the nomination I suspect that she will do the right thing and support Obama and encourage all those who wanted the nomination for her to vote for him.

I agree it makes no sense for Hillary supporters to vote for McCain. Hillary’s views are very much like Obamas. Very similar. McCain does not share Hillary’s politics AT ALL. So this does not make sense.

I really do think it’s all about hate. Hatred over substance. Vengence over what you want for the country. It’s all about emotion instead of anything else. Very infantile.

  12. Hillary is more likely to bring the nomination process to court than to endorse Obama.

  13. Steve Corbett “voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 and endured the scorn of others who blamed [him] for the Democratic loss.”

Well, yes. Yes, indeed. And now it’s eight years later and you’ll vote to put “Bush” back in the White House for a third term to prove just how “right” you are once again.

What’s that about “cutting off your nose to spite your face”?

    Gotta get that paypa!

  17. DP~ I’m cool man, I’m cool.

E~ I was going to call in tonight about the cross-voting issue. I was getting really pissed, until Alan said that he couldn’t understand how die hard Dems on the left could go over to right. That makes more sense. B/c for an Independent to switch from Hill to McDaddy, that’s understandable. Iraq is not the only political issue that voters think about. When you go to websites to get info on “the issues”, the list of issues is about two dozen. Each individual will decide for themselves which issues are most important, and vote accordingly.

    Noel~ You silly boy.

  18. Cheryl I respect you so much but no I don’t understand how even an independent could vote for McCain. I say that because you are such a HUGE Hillary supporter. So you must support her policies. Her policies are very different from McCain and similar to Baracks.

She wants to end the war. She wants universal health care, that was her biggest issue. She would never put conservatives on the supreme court. McCain is exactly the opposite from Hillary, so no it doesn’t make sense to me.

You also said that abortion was a very important issue for you, maybe the most important. But Hillary has been vehemently pro-choice for decades.

So with all due respect, again, no it doesn’t make sense to me.

  19. I am a life long conservative. I have never voted for a Democrat for President. Although 4 years ago I voted Libertarian. This year, I am strongly considering casting my vote for Obama. I, however, would never vote for Hillary. Her policies scare me. Even though, Obama, isn’t much better, I like that he wants to get out Iraq. That he wants to sit down with other leaders, like Reagan, Carter and Kennedy did. In those areas he is much better then McCain. Even though, he is worse on the issues I am more conservative on, like abortion.

  21. Yummm… slop! Gimme more, Billary.

Epiphany~ I love and trust the Clintons. They stand by the abortions should be “safe and rare” thing. Even before I read Alan’s book and changed to PRO-CHOICE, I was very attracted to that stance. I love that she approaches the issue from prevention, abortion if necessary, but also support for the mother and/or father raising the child.

I’m down with her National Security policies. As far as Iraq, she’s advocating a staggered removal of our troops, which I think is very responsible.

Idk… I’m still waiting for the DNC.

  23. I mean what exactly is Hillary trying to do now?

She must see that the super delegates (aka:her last hope)are turning from her more every day.

She must see that her nomination is all but impossible.

Is she vying for the VP spot? I don’t think so but I suppose it’s possible.

Is she vying for a win? It’s just not possible the DNC will turn on Obama.

Is she trying to destroy Obama? It’s possible.

I just don’t see why she’s continuing to chop chop away at him and polarize her electorate even more if the only thing she gains from it is poisoning Barack’s campaign.

I’m sorry but there’s nothing I’ve seen from Hillary in this campaign that makes me like her.

  24. Just when I was going to vote democrate, NOW the dems are going to vote for McCain? LOLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
This is dragging on TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long!

  25. I just can’t believe this~!! This sense of entitlement that Clinton and her supporters have has got to end. This long drawn out primary season has got to end already. Those who say they are going ti vote gor McCain, were always going to vote for McCain. As an Edwards supporter, I changed my allegience to Barack, because he was closer to my guy in his platform. Now I am a Mama for Obama…..If McCain should happen to win the presidency…..all those folks who called last night and said they wouldn’t vote for Obama if Hillary wasn’t the nominee…better not complain, about no universal healthcare, higher taxes on the middle class, sky high student loans, ect, ect ect. They should have thought about that before they went into vote on Nov. 5. This stuff about being scared of Barack is a lot of nonsense…..I would be more scared of a man who suffered horrendous physical pain as a POW, and most likely suffers from PTSD that hasn’t been diagnosed, yet could explain his hot temper mood swings….But it is more scary to these idiots who won’t vote for Barack…oh the “big bad evil black man!”…..they can’t give a coherent reason why they won’t vote for him, other than his race, and they can’t even admit that….so they have to give a reason easier for them to grip….Hillary isn’t the nominee….that is the stupidous thing I have ever heard if….Just what makes Hillary so wonderful?? I certainly don’t find her wonderful….but if she got the nomination,if it happened to go that way….I would hold my nose and vote for her….there is more at stake than whether or not she is a woman….I have ovaries too…..but I make my mind up using my brain…not my ovaries….That is just a ludacris thing….Some woman are voting for Hillary for one reason….she is a woman!!!! Then they complain about Obama or even McCain at times…being “sexist”!!! Reaally!!! I think the female Hillary supporters are sexist….these sort of woman are solely responsible for making the rest of us women’s lives miserable…why are paychecks aren’t equal to a man for doing the same job, ect. Now they want to totally make our lives in the tank by jepardizing women’s rights…by voting for McCain????!!!! Ladies WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

  26. This is just schtick from this Corbett character. The proof is on his blog today quote
“Some powerful people even suggested that I head up a national movement with a web site and an address and appearances all over the country. But although an organized and unified voice that Democratic Party bosses ignore is very much needed, I must humbly decline.”

He doesn’t really care who the nominee is. He isn’t ready to do the work to get his “message” out. It is just a ploy to boost himself.
How can we take him seriously if he doesn’t take himself serious enough to actually do something.
Corbett is all talk, no action. He wants to leave the heavy lifting up to real democrats.
    What a disappointment.

  27. mluz,
Just what is a “real Democrat”? At least according to this joker…….Real Democrats don’t do what is happening in this primary season. Folks like this joker, and some of the callers last night on Alan’s show….are an insult to the integrity of the Party, and indeed an insult to Hillary Clinton as a candidate. Barack Obama, and the media are not the reason Hillary isn’t going to be the nominee…..she has run a lousy campaign….and I don’t think there is any other rational for her failure….but to do what this Corbett guy and others were suggesting demeans not only the candidate, but the process as well

  28. Noel, you’re cruisin’ for a bruisin’.

Barack Obama is the democratic presidential nominee.

Oh, the DNC met already? I thought they weren’t doing that until August. Interesting.

Oh, I guess you mean Obama has reached the 2026 delegates necessary to secure the nomination? No, that’s not it.

Wait! I know! You’ve got some facts and figures there that show Obama will undoubtedly be the best Dem candidate against McCain? That he will win in WV, KY, MI, and other states important for the Dem nominee to carry in November?

In the edited wors of Obama, Lay off my Hillary.

She has every right to continue with her campaign. Furthermore, I appreciate that the remaining 8 or so states will have the opportunity to express their preference for nominee. We’re a democracy for goodness sake. Let the people vote. Chill till the DNC. Hill’s not slinging any mud at Big O. She’s tenacious as hell, she’s smart as hell, and she’s got tens of thousands of Americans rooting for her.

She’s not chopping away at him. What are you talking about? I’m also tired of hearing people say that this is ruining the Democratic party. WHATEVER.

Noel, you’re starting to sound like Della… Here’s what she said on Radio Graffiti, 05/14:

“What good is it for Hillary to crash the glass ceiling if she has to get down in the gutter and sling mud to do so?”

  31. What part of “We will never, ever vote for Obama” don’t you all get? It’s really simple. A great percentage of 17 Million of us do not trust Obama. We would rather endure 4 years of a centrist republican, than 4 years of an unknown, inexperienced, disingenuous, and arrogant snot-nose. Not to mention that BEAST of a racist wife… Forget it- we will not be coming home if Hillary Clinton is not the Democratic nominee. Kapiche`?

Further, if there is anyone in this country who believes that ANY one of these candidates can have our boys out of Iraq in less than 2 years- you’re dreaming. It sux that we’re there- Bush made a grave error- but, blame gets us no where. The point is- we’re in and we’re not getting out until it can be done safely and sanely. Period.

  32. Cheryl…why should abortions be “safe and rare” if there ain’t nothing wrong with them?! I don’t get that.

If I am pro-choice do I not want to encourage pregnancy termination? It would solve a lot of problems concerning mothers/families who cannot adequately provide for their children, etc. Less problems with adoption, etc.

  33. I really started to fear I was the only one paying attention to the blatent scamming going on by Howard Dean. When the Democrats lose in November it will be his fault. He really believes all the democrats will come together in November…this one will NOT vote for inexperience and poor judgement. That does not make me a racist; it makes me smart.

  34. Vote for McCain if you hate America.

  36. Noel, I just thought you were busy working again.

Flap, that’s really the only compromise I can think of. I think it really has a nice ring to it. We don’t want them, but if they’re absolutely needed then they should be healthy and safe.
