Bushback Mountain

h/t Crooks and Liars.

John McCain voted 100% of the time with what George W. Bush wanted in 2008 and 95% of the time in 2007. That is, when he was there.

It’s beautiful when people can agree to agree:

  • Bush said McCain was set to “carry forth his agenda.”
  • McCain said his friendship with Bush was based on shared views on the issues.
  • McCain will continue Bush’s failed policies in Iraq.
  • McCain’s health care plan is the same as Bush’s.
  • McCain supported Bush’s efforts to privatize Social Security.
  • McCain flip-flopped to align himself with the Bush tax cuts.
  • McCain supported Bush’s disastrous No Child Left Behind.

  1. John McCain claims that no one who has served the nation via military service may be criticized by people who have not served and that only people who have served are qualified to comment on related policy. (Para Phrased) I took some of the rudeness out of the direct quote. McCain’s response toward Obams’s Congressional speech concerning the issue of the GI Bill and how we should treat our service men and women was a slap in the face of free speech. We all have the right to criticize people who have served. McCain is not above criticism and military service does not place a person above criticism. If McCain wants to be above criticism he could live the life of a hermit. His service should be recognized, but this does not give him a free pass from honest debate in the halls of government. He shows a lack of respect for the principle of free speech, which our founding fathers fought and died to establish free speech, free expression, and the right to protest. If you’re an ex-soldier, you are not above criticism whether you are in government our outside of government. What is more disturbing is the hypocrisy by a Republican who’s own party has openly and routinely criticized, swift boated, or attacked Democratic politicians who have served in the military. Much of the Republican criticism of Democratic ex-military politicians is based on personal terms and not on policy aspects. J. Kerry was a nasty attack that had nothing to do with policy. Yet, no matter how low brow the attack was by the Republicans toward Democratic ex-military politicians their attacks are protected free speech. John McCain does not believe in extending that same respect toward his political opponent. What a shame. John McCain should realize that policy debate is not a personal attack; rather it is part of the job. The list of Republican disrespect for policy criticism is disrespect for Liberty.

  2. Has John McCain stated that he will reverse the Unitary and Unconstitutional actions, Orders, and Directives of the G.W. Bush Administration? Will McCain undo the error’s of a Department of Justice and the Office of Legal Council? Has McCain stated that he will reverse Republican dominated legislation that has rewritten or violated Citizen Sovereignty or Rights? No. In fact he supported many of the violations of our basic, self- evident rights (Privacy, Due Process, Congressional Oversight, and The fact that Treaties like the Geneva Convention). Bush failed his Oath Of Office. Will McCain continue the failure of that Oath? The evidence points toward more of the same.

  3. Many people like to mention “Experience” as something essential to the Office of the President. Fine. What kind of experience are we talking about? Experience with failed policy? If John McCain has experience it is with the tragic foreign policy, failed economic policy, massive intrusion and violation of the principles of the Bill of Rights, and social policy like No Child Left Behind or Abstinence Only Programs. Does John McCain claim that he will rid the EPA, FDA, and other agencies of industry lobbyists who rewrite scientific research papers without actually having any education related to the studies they are editing? I doubt it. He has not mentioned it. I do not think he ever will. Will McCain continue the failed Trade Policies, Free Market domination by corporations and not the consumer, and the deregulation of the economy that has led to fraud, toxic products, and increased environmental degradation? Yes. Would he address the Global Warming issue through Free Market solutions? Sure, though that would be like allowing a criminal to choose their own punishment. But if you still choose to vote for McCain it is your right, your right to vote against your own best interests.

*crossed fingers* Please, let Hillary be the nominee. PLEASE

I love the title to this one, Big A. Very creative.

  9. Q: What does it take to APPEASE the average American?
    A: About 600 bucks.
I am so sick of hearing about the Bush tax cuts, and things like “make the tax cuts permanent”.
WHAT TAX CUTS? If there were tax cuts we wouldnt need these appeasment checks. When we were warned that the tax cuts were for the richest of the rich, that was the truth. McCain wants more of the same.
When you get your appeasment check in the mail take a good long look at it. Think about the tax cuts you didnt get. Think about the war profiteers who charge $40 of your tax dollars for a can of soda.
Think about 8 years of failed policy. Think about the corruption that already exists in Iraq under their new “democracy”. Think about the time this band of fools has spent worrying about conservative judges, and trying to mold this country into some kind of neocon utopia.
I would say keep this check for a while as a reminder, but I’m sure, like me, you could use the money.

  10. “Oh God. I think I’m going to have to vote for Obama.”

Yeah I’d feel much better about voting for Hillary. She has this refusal to acknowledge reality. Just like Georgy boy…

  11. Hillary isn’t going to win. Sorry. It isn’t happening. Thank God it’s almost over then Hillary won’t have an excuse.

  12. Cheryll makes fun of Obama only cause I like him. ~~~

  13. Whateva Obama boy.

  14. I’m just not feelin’ him! Dang… why I gotta like Obama?

But for real, I’m Independent… I really did like McCain, then Hillary. McCain was too conservative for me, but now he’s even more so.

  15. I have sometimes liked McCain but only because he sometimes seemed like a lone voice of reason crying out from amid the demonic babble of the anti-American “Republic” party.

  16. Well, I voted for Hilary a couple of months ago but it looks like I’ll be voting for Obama this November.
-As for McCain, he’s just a Double-mint twin of Bush.

Will Cheryl be making fun of me because I love Obama more than anybody in here?

I love him so much I am going to be him for Halloween!
    ;-)

  18. Oh, Lord. Noel’s got company…

Actually, I realized today why I loved McCain so much- he’s a war hero. But even more than that, he was a POW. I’m very attracted to that. But now that I understand what my weakness was, I can let him go. *sniff*

  19. So Lydia I guess you’re going to stick around and faithfully represent Obama. You should read Noel’s blogs. I don’t know what his url is, he keeps changing it. (Indecisive Obama lover.)

    :-)

  20. I love my appeasment check.

  21. Hmmm, cheryl, you’re attracted to McCain and not Obama?
    What are you, 60? ;)

seriously, though I don’t get why you dislike him. I mean, nobody says you have to love him, but you really don’t like him?
