Impeachment Probably Won’t Work
But what accountability should there be for these people?
WASHINGTON (AP) – Rep. Dennis Kucinich, a former Democratic presidential contender, said Monday he wants the House to consider a resolution to impeach President Bush.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi consistently has said impeachment was “off the table.”
Kucinich, D-Ohio, read his proposed impeachment language in a floor speech. He contended Bush deceived the nation and violated his oath of office in leading the country into the Iraq war.
Kucinich introduced a resolution last year to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney. That resolution was killed, but only after Republicans initially voted in favor of taking up the measure to force a debate.

Waste of time and energy Dennis. He has been neutralized and will be shamed by historians forever.

No one can be above the law.
No one.
Kucinich is right.

what really scares me is that Bush/Cheney won’t be tried for war crimes.
How must we look to other nations?
If I were someone from another country, I’d be thinking “What’s wrong with these Americans? They impeach someone for consentual sex, but give war criminals a pass!”

“If the president does it then it isn’t illegal.”
Where’s the check and the balance for that?

Impeachment’s fine to attempt, but those expecting it and assuming the conclusion must be a guilty verdict, aren’t respecting the constitution in spirit anymore or less than Bush is accused of disrespecting it.
My problem has never been with wanting to impeach him, but with motives based in hate and vengeance.
Guilt is not ensured by impeachment, yet some impeachment advocates will almost certainly call any impeachment without that result a farce, a kangaroo trial, and this is before there’s evidence of trial corruption.
Cynics will likely claim it is corrupted simply because of who is involved: Is it not John Roberts whom will preside over the impeachment, if it occurs? I truly don’t mind the attempt, and agree that no one is above the law, but equal justice and impartiality applies to Bush as it does to you, Alan, myself, etc.
Sometimes people in their anger forget this.
If you think pointing these things out makes me a neocon, think what you want, but know that I also apologize for having ethics.

Impeachment is like playing the sex card or the race card against a popular or sympathetic politician. President Bush is like a three legged hound dog in America and kicking a dog that won’t hunt makes him a victim. It could keep Democrats from winning by shifting sympathies on the war. Sounds like a “Progressive” idea to me. He’s done leave him be. Write his history after he’s gone.

Well, if the evidence supports it, and one truly feels there’s an injustice in not trying, I’m for impeachment, better to not let a possible criminal go unpunished, I just hope most motives are about justice.

Ethics, huh? We’ve lost over 4000 of our finest in the Bush/Cheney war, not to mention the loss of Iraqi lives. These are the facts.
Forgive me, but senseless murder trumps “governmental ethics” in my book
June 10th, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Ethics as in the process we use. I’ve made it clear that there’s nothing wrong with impeaching him per se, but that you can’t objectively call a non conviction an injustice without evidence of the failure of the impeachment process. I was, for the record, also opposed to the hanging of Saddam for a related reason. I’m opposed to the death penalty to begin with, and find an appeals process of 60 days immoral. That’s what happened to Saddam, and it was wrong, and most believe Saddam is culpable of far more deaths among his people than those tied to Bush.

Also, it’s not governmental ethics, it’s legal and constitutional ethics.

When referring to deaths tied to Bush, I meant among Americans. Sorry.
As for the Lancet studies, I am not up on how good the methodology is, nor am I qualified to dispute the science behind it, so I have little questioning to give it that’s reasoned from anything substantive.
Besides, whether 100,0000 or 1,000,000, this war is wrong, and that’s the main reason I’m voting for Obama.

*100,000 or 1,000,000
*dispute them

too late for Impeachment. Just prosecute them after their term is over for the criminals they are…

Bravo!!! to Dennis for having the courage to try. It may not go very far, but at least it is part of the historical record. Can’t wait for Vincent Bugliosi to prosecute….!!!

He’s also one of the few Congressmen to call for an end to funding the war. Kucinich is no coward, that’s for sure.

I’m not an American and certainly no expert on American law, but is it not better to keep the legal ammunition dry until after Obama is inaugurated? If no charges have been laid, I can’t see how the awful man can give pardons, which would presumably be on condition that mouths stayed firmly shut.
However, whatever, you have to make sure no other bunch of crazies can ever take over the show and act with the impunity this lot have enjoyed.

FuRyUs and John McKee are right on target.
