Mac, PC, or Cindy McCain?
Does it matter whether a candidate for president knows his way around a computer?

  1. Is the world going to fall apart if the US president does not know how to use a computer? Will it fall apart if the US president does not have a IPhone or a IPod?

Everything will function just as it has been. Members of the president’s staff will have acess to computers and it will likely be the same. McCain might not felt there was a need to have a computer, so he did not get one for himself although his wife has one. It would be nice if he learned how to use a computer, but we are not electing someone to be our computer tech person.

I have to disagree with you. Using a computer in this day in age is not just a little “hip, cool, gadget” like an iPhone. The internet especially is now so important in today’s society and anybody who wants to be leader of the free world ought to at least have a little bit of insight into such an integral part of modern culture and society. Not to mention national security and benefits the internet can have for humanity and the country. Since John McCain is a self professed illiterate on a computer, how can he be trusted to make a sound judgement on legislation regulating the internet, for example.

I’m not saying that the next President needs to be Bill Gates on a computer, I’m just saying that they should at least have some basic knowledge like how to browse the internet and send e-mail.

    And to answer Alan’s question….

    MAC ALL THE WAY!!!!

  3. How about them internets George ? !

  4. Ugh, that’s a difficult issue. Presidents have advisers for a good reason…they can’t know everything about everything. Same goes for the internet. They set policy, not show people how to access websites. Michael, you made some good points. But even if McCain knew how to browse and read e-mail, how would that necessarily help him with policy? Maybe SPAM I guess. But, truthfully, many people I know (including my parents) have a rudimentary understanding of the internet but not on the level that I do. Not that I know very much, but I know enough to know that just browsing and e-mailing is not enough to really understand it.

McCain should be careful what he says about not knowing anything about computers. He’s gonna make himself seem older!!

  5. It doesn’t matter that his old ass can’t use the computer. How much time would he actually have to spend on the computer??? None. Briefings are presented via paper and oral presentation. Computer usage is not necessary to be a successful President.

  6. We already have a President now that doesn’t know how to use a doorknob…

  7. It is agreed that leaders can not know about everything. I know a few people who claim they know what they are doing with their computer. The problem is I have to go read up on how to get them out of trouble. McCain lacks experience in that area, big deal. So does many other Americans, who never learned how to use a computer. Obama is likely the opposite.

Yes the computer is nice tool, but it is just a tool.

To answer the question about operating systems, I use Windows XP and can find my way around the computer and internet quite easy.

  8. LMAO, Fury. That one was really good.

  9. ABSOLUTELY it matters!!! I am one of the angry, 60 year old white females and even I want someone who looks to the future. Time to get rid of the World War Two mentality. I want young! I want new ideas from a person who can see the future because they have a future. If we don’t kick the the old ways of post World War Two we are surely doomed as a country. If he can’t use a computer he is already dead. Wonder if he has a cell phone? Well, he does have a cell phone, because last summer when his campaign tanked and he had to raise money I saw him on the Senate floor speaking on his cell phone. He paid no attention to the bill being discussed, just disappeared all of sudden out the door. If someone told him he could make a deal on the internet, he would learn fast. Why didn’t he change things in this country? He has had many years to do it, he could have made this a better country, he voted on the side of his career. He married that way too. Kate

  10. It SO doesn’t matter. This is (once again) filling space that should be talking about real issues like: the economy, health care, schools, the enviroment, the WAR, (heard about that lately?) , the Patriot Act, nuclear disarmament, and etc.

  11. FuRyUs —-
that was actually pretty funny. I was thinking the same along those lines.

He definitely needs to read his newspaper every morning to find out what the hell is actually going on in his own country.

Anyways, I’ll go anyday with MAC.
