On Thursday’s Radio Show…

June 12th, 2008, 6:00 PM EDT

• Are too many voters just plain dumb? Rick Shenkman, author of Just How Stupid Are We? Facing the Truth About the American Voter, responds.
• The man behind 1988’s “Willie Horton” ads is now targeting Barack Obama. Alan confronts Floyd Brown.
• A conversation with Quantum Wellness guru Kathy Freston.

Responses to this post...

  1. Suntan is plain dumb…

  2. From the Amazon product description of Skenkman’s book: “The only thing everyone seems to agree on, in fact, is that the American people are entirely blameless.”

Well, if you ask me, and I don’t know anything, the only thing we could all agree on is that there’s plenty of people to blame in this country, and in our government especially, and they’re all idiots.

And why are they all idiots? Because they don’t agree with you and me.

  3. How come all these so-called experts who are writing books do not have anything listed in the area about the author that the have some experience in the field that they are writing.

If you are going to write about health you should have some experience in the heath field. If you going to write about history, then you should have some understand of what you are writing about. I guess this would qualify any of us to be able to write a political book, since we do not know anything about politics.

  4. Shenkman used to host a series, but I forgot the name of it. He likes to debunk myths, historical misconceptions.

  5. Voters are pretty silly. When I heard how some Hillary voters would go against everything their candidate believed in and would contemlplate voting McCain, it made me wonder what their thinking process is.

I think voters should have to demonstrate an understanding of the issues and the differences between candidate platforms before they are allowed to vote.

  6. Oh yeah and Floyd Brown is a scumbag!

  7. Refer to here for my thoughts on that http://liberalland.com/2008/06/05/how-many-of-us-are-too-stupid-to-vote/#comments

  8. I wonder when Obama will pick his VP?I am pulling for Jim Webb…

  9. Bob~ the pundits are saying Obama and McCain will not pick the veep until August, as that is apparently the traditional time to do it.

What the hell was up with that first caller? If I’d been standing in front of him I would have had to laugh. Honestly. I mean, it was such a crazy comment that it had to have been a joke… right???

I thought the guy calling in about how confident he was about Obama winning, and then how voters would be disappointed at how he won’t be able to fulfill campaign promises, made a VERY good point. I don’t think it’s a good point b/c I’m not an Obama supporter, but b/c it says something about our civic psychology.

  10. I cant believe that first caller either.I am afraid I have have run into that same train of thought among some of the people I have talked to.I have taken a little flak for supporting obama.

These wacky callers make the show entertaining though….

  11. Man… as soon as that guy said that the only people who can vote are veterans and property owners, I LAUGHED.

    GREAT CALLS TONIGHT!

  12. Alan, take down the Brown commercial link. You are only helping him.

  13. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Floyd Brown needs to shove both his hands up his ass!

    Thank you and good night…

  14. Sometimes I think this show is a Phil Hendrie type thing because can there really be that many stupid people out there?

  15. Too intelligent to vote HA!…where’s this guys tin foil hat?

  16. I agree that there are way too many stupid people voting. Problem is – I also believe that ALL candidates are pandering to the ignorant voter because they believe the ignorant voter is in the majority. And maybe they are right !!

  20. http://www.salon.com/opinion/conason/2008/04/25/floyd_brown/

    Your days are numbered scumbag.

  21. Based on the videos I have seen and the people I have talk to, yes some voters are not educated about whom they are voting for. Some of them go into the polling place not realizing that the poll worker can not tell them who to vote for. All anyone can show them is who voting.

I can promise you that come this November that people will vote not knowing who is running for president, that one of them is black, or that a church was a issue.

  22. This ugliness would never be going on if Barack Obama was white. Never.

I’m sorry I’ve lived long enough to see the bottom of the barrel scraped. Makes my stomach turns over.

  37. Alan, what the hell- sometimes I feel like you care more about Bob in Vegas and John the Trucker than you do Cheryl in Fredericksburg.

  40. I believe the caller that spoke of over intelligence was trying, albeit in a muddled way, to say that a highly intelligent person also of an upper socio-economic class might not be able to empathize with persons of lower intelligence and, or, a lesser socio-economic class. There are probably nicer ways to put it, but it’s kind of like saying the straight a student might not understand the struggling ones and deem their self interest as secondary, or worse, to his own, thereby creating a kind of elitism; an intelligence that disassociates oneself with the common man.

  41. Floyd Brown reminds me of why I would never be a republiCON. Woody Allen once said he would never belong to a club who would have him as a member. Hear that floyd. Despite these sleazebags, Obama will win in November if it is a FAIR election. In the 12 years I have lived in Florida, I haven’t seen a fair one here yet. Democrats should never leave a RepubliCON alone wirh a voting machine. Finally, Alan please educate women on Mccain,s disgusting attitude on all issues concerning women’s rights. Women will not vote for him if they know how he disrespects them.

  42. To Sky and Cheryl – the fat guy in Idiocracy KILLS me! I think we have some politicians who got there law degree from Costco. Maybe we need a ‘peanut head’ to stimulate the ecomony right now. Pardon me while I finish my Brawndo – it has electrolytes, you know.
