Ohio Teacher Fired For Burning Crosses Into Students’ Arms

Mount Vernon, Ohio teacher John Freshwater failed to remove a Bible and other religious symbols from his classroom, and continued to teach creationism, over the objections of his superiors.  He branded crosses on the arms of students while claiming all he was doing was demonstrating a device known as a high frequency generator by writing an “X”, not a cross.

I guess is an “X”, at a certain angle. And if you shorten one of the lines.  And if you ignore all the other evidence that this teacher was pushing his religious beliefs on his students.

  1. first!

  2. I’m going to deal with the easiest issue first- why is he burning ANYTHING into a student’s arm? The article doesn’t state that any of the students complained about this, so I’m going to assume that they all volunteered to have this done. The issue of using a student’s body as an experiment should be judged right or wrong by applicable laws.

Evolution vs. Creationism- I’m in favor of teaching both. Creationism encompasses more than the Judeo-Christian story of Genesis. Students should be provided a summary of evolution THEORY, as well as creation THEORIES. It should be part of the general, liberal arts education provided to our public school students.

There is nothing wrong with teaching the two THEORIES together, as neither has been scientifically proven. (Yes my liberal friends, evolution is still just a theory.) To say that Creationism cannot be taught during a study on the origins of mankind because religion should not be taught in schools, is to say that the majority of our History classes should be revamped. English teachers must also remove studies on Greek and Roman Mythology.

Teaching about the historical interactions of religion, society, and politics enhances the knowledge of our society.

  3. As a matter of fact, I learned about the 5 Pillars of Islam in a high school history class that covered the ancient development of the Middle East.

  4. If you learned Islam in a school then you got the Politically Correct White-wash that Saudi Arabia has paid for you to get.

  5. i meant to add the word “probably”

  6. Creationism is a hypothesis. It’s a set of assumptions or beliefs. Evolution is a theory. It’s supported by physical evidence.

The two can certainly coexist. There’s nothing in all of science that can’t be explained by saying “God made it that way.” But Creationism is not science and it should not be taught as science.

  7. The teacher should have been let go a long time ago; if he’s not out the door now, there’s something wrong in River City.
Creationism is a myth; as in no evidence what so ever.
Evolution is science based and evidence abounds.
The two are in no way equal.

  8. They should burn a pentagram on the forehead of this fuck! I’m just sayin’…

  9. Intelligent Design is a scientific theory.

  10. Evolution is just a theory even with all the evidence. It is a theory when the Bible has been found out the be historically accurate all the way through. Funny how none of the other religious books can say this. Odd isn’t it.

  11. Funny how evolution has evidence. It’s called the fossil record. Also, oil is mostly dinosaurs squished under enormous pressure. You’re right though, From, some people wrote a book a couple thousand years ago called the Bible. It must be the truth because it’s in a book. Pesky evolution evidence…

  12. high freq.generator? I dont remember this device in my bible studies? maybe this teacher is an athiest / imposter.

  13. Intelligent Design?
    Cancer, Polio, small pox.

    Who designed the designer?

  14. Great question, Boogie. It’s something I’ve asked in formulating my own thoughts on who God might be.

I don’t advocate the schools teach religion, and explaining why God might have created and/or allowed disease would be to open a theological discussion that is probably not appropriate for a public school. However, discussing Evolution and Intelligent Design theories together is appropriate, as aforementioned. To leave either view out would be to present our children with n incomplete picture of life, viz a viz presenting an incomplete picture of American societal thought.

  15. Creationism should NOT be taught in sciences classes, but at least an acknowledgment of Intelligent Design is a good thing.

    Here’s the difference:
Creationism: The Bible and specifically Judeo-Christian theology is used to justify science.
Intelligent Design: There is non-random design in nature which implies a Designer.

Evolution is essentially atheistic or has atheistic leanings. In other words, (and even Dawkins admits this) you pretty much have to ABANDON God to believe in Evolution wholeheartedly.

There are some proponents of Intelligent Design who believe in Common Descent. That is, we originated from a unicellular organism originally. They just believe that it’s unlikely that this was directed by only random processes. In other words, some sort of Designer must have had a hand in it.

I don’t even believe in Common Descent, because I believe the evidence to be ambiguous at BEST, but then again I’m a right-winger. :)

Did you know they found some dinosaur flesh from a T. Rex recently? Can flesh survive 68 million years? It’s all very suspect to me. I don’t have the answers but Darwinists don’t either.

  16. Boogie, a First Cause doesn’t require a designer.

Is it easier to believe that existence created itself or it was created by a Sentient Being? The latter. It doesn’t prove any specific religion but I think it proves a Higher Power.

  17. Then who or what created that sentient Being?

Perhaps we should teach astrology along side astronomy as well.

  18. A Sentient Being acting as the First Cause doesn’t require creation.

Boogie, how did the Universe come to exist? Why and how does time, space, and mass exist?

  19. A BIBLE IN THE CLASSROOM! OMG! Deploy the Armored ACLU S.W.A.T. Team/Lawyer Van!

  21. Flap~ LOL. You get the FUNNIEST COMMENT OF THE WEEKEND Award. Congratulations, sir.

Boogie~ why you hatin’?! :-) I was raised Lutheran. I study astrology. I like astrology because it’s concrete. It is what it is, you can see the planets, you know what it means when they move certain ways. Real astrology involves more than the basic horoscope found in newspapers and magazines. Real astrology is much more accurate.

  22. Astrology: the doctor that delivered you has more influence that the planet Pluto.

“Why and how does time, space, and mass exist?”
    Why does Limberger cheese exist?
Time is a human concept. space was always there; mass is property of matter.
No need for magic or magicians in any of those things.

  23. Nice try, Boogie. Are you aware of the concept of Synchronicity? The doctor was supposed to deliver that baby at that exact moment, whether it was a planned C-section or natural vaginal birth.

Why are you so skeptical, man? Don’t dis’ magic. Haven’t you ever seen Harry Potter? Magic is REAL, dude! lol

  24. Hey: the DOCTOR?????? what about the mama that delivered you, huh?
(no other relevant comment to add)

  25. Aha, are you serious Boogie? Time is not a human “concept.” It is a measurement of a property of existence. We measure it but didn’t conceive it. We use terms like second, minute, hour, but we didn’t conceive of that. Space was always there? Why and how is that possible? Mass is a property of matter: where does matter come from?

You talk about magic and then say that this stuff MAGICALLY just exists! A Creator isn’t magic.

Why do all the laws of the universe continue to exist? Why do they always function in the same fashion? More magic, as you are saying, right? Why is everything perfectly tweaked for existence? If anything was a tiny bit off, nothing exists! Why? How? Magic?

I don’t believe in astrology, so Cheryl can defend herself in that area. :)

  26. Flap~ Speaking of time, are you aware that we in the West think of time as being linear, while those in the East think of it as something else? I forget their exact concept, but it’s not the same as ours. I discovered this while reading a book that was a collection of doomsday prophecies from various religions and cults throughout the world.
