Imus Again
It sounds to me as though Imus was commenting on the issue of how African-Americans get disparate treatment in the criminal justice system. Of course, those who love to bash Imus and point fingers will automatically take it the wrong way. With Tony Powell and Karith Foster sitting with him, with a history of having lost two jobs because of his previous to-do, he’s not going to bash a guy for being black. The nappy-headed ho comment was a joke gone bad. This wasn’t even that. It was, at best a statement about how living-while-black and, at worst, nothing.
[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=HFGOM28LYzo]

i’m glad i’ve finally heard a clip that gives the before AND after. i have no idea what to think. the last comment where imus’ sidekick calls him “dickhead” doesn’t make me think that they were sitting there trying to defend him (and therefore referring to “living-while-black”).
i don’t know.
June 24th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
Please! Don’t we have anything better to worry about than what Don Imus says? If you don’t like Imus, don’t listen to him.
June 24th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Who cares? I mean who cares what a zombie in a cowboy hat says about anything…
June 24th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
If you want to make a difference, ignore the twit.
If you perpetuate it by calling attention to his ignorance, then who is the ignorant one?
June 24th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
This isn’t an event at all. This is a cheap stunt trying to draw attention to the controversy of the past to continue to get ratings in the future. Imus knew Pacman was Black. Asking the question was stupid. When asking the question, Warner Wolf should have called Imus out. He should have been forced to make his point before the show moved on. This was a stunt trying to recapture the glory of a bad joke. What’s sad is “It’s working.” Imus is back in the news for nothing! Adam Jones is trying to get back in the league and this controversy actually profits from his pain. Mr. Jones will be allowed to play.
June 24th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
pretty soon imus is going to need a pink cowboy hat, let me be brief about this. 98% of the NFL players follow the rules. The ones that dont end up with police/criminal records and I have yet to read/hear of Not one who had the record expunged. There was a running back in chicago by the name of Cedric Benson who was arrested Twice in less then two months and has 3 court cases pending. Cedric was just cut from the chicago Bears and not one charge (against cedric)was said to be undeserved. Maybe Imus should call Cedric because right now benson needs all the help he can get!
June 24th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
This is nothing. I was listening to Ron Reagan one day on the radio. He was talking about blowing up muslim babies. I found this deplorable, but he
still has a job as a hate jock.
Compared to some of the crap that spews from the mouths of these reich wingers, Don Imus sounds like Mother Teresa.
June 24th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
TDro, you’re talking about Michael Reagan not Ron Reagan. Both are Ronald Reagan’s sons and both do radio but Ron is very progressive and a wonderful person whom I’ve been watching and listening to on radio and tv since the 90’s. Michael Reagan is very conservative and has made some really stupid statements such as you mentioned.
June 24th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
Ron Reagan also sits in sometimes for hosts on Air America, just heard him a few weeks ago.
June 24th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Please, TDro, “reich wingers”? You talk about hate and then deal the Hitler card.
Epiphany, “Ron is very progressive” and therefore wonderful and “Michael Reagan is conservative” and therefore stupid. Puhlease. By the way, Air America hasn’t failed yet? Why don’t they get some talented libs like Ellis Henican, Phil Donahue, Bob Beckel, or Alan Colmes and perhaps they’d have half-decent ratings. Although Ron Reagan, I will admit, seems to be a pretty smart guy.
This Imus stuff is so hilarious in a sad way. And I’m not a fan of him…he’s weird…I can’t figure it out, really. I think he’s the type that tries to offend everyone, kinda like Christopher Hitchens or the South Park guys. Anyway, he practically SURROUNDS himself with black people and he STILL gets accused of saying something inappropriate. And then the dude he was talking about (defending the guy, really) condescendingly talks about the fact that he’ll “pray for Imus.” Give me a break, as John Stossel would say. Imus probably thinks he’s in bizarro world. Leave the guy alone. HE’S NOT A RACIST. In fact, I have yet to hear Imus say anything racist!
June 24th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
Epiphany, “Ron is very progressive” and therefore wonderful and “Michael Reagan is conservative” and therefore stupid. Puhlease.
These kinds of arguments are becoming a waste of my time. You are a very black and white kind of person flap who sometimes does not LISTEN. But you can interrupt what I said anyway you like. I said Ron Reagan is very progressive, which is definatley a good thing in my book, AND he is also a wonderful person who I used to watch 5 nights a week on a local tv show here in New York City many years ago. I respect him tremendously and would be proud and happy to have him as a friend if I could.
I didn’t say Michael Reagan was conservative, therefore stupid. I said he has made some very stupid remarks. William F. Buckley was the father of modern conservatism and a brilliant man. So is George Will and Patrick Buchannon who I would have over for dinner anytime.
Both liberals and conservatives can make stupid statements and/or be wonderful people. I myself favor the liberal way of thinking and behaving. It is more logical to me and it has higher morals as far as I cam concerned.
And that’s the way I feel about it, thank you very much.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
I’m actually not black and white…I pointed out a paragraph that seemed to imply that YOU were making a black and white statement based on ideology.
I was half-kidding, Epiphany, so don’t get your left-wing undies bunched up! Actually, either way, I don’t think there’s anything necessarily wrong with thinking someone is bad or disliking them if they have an ideology you detest.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:32 pm
Epiphany:
You are correct. My apologies to Ron Reagan. It’s Michael Reagan who is the hate monger.
Flap:
Try listening to Fox “News” sometime – I mean really listen, and you will see what I mean when I say Reich Wingers. They promote hatred. You should be ignored because I’ve noticed you make a habit of twisting somebody’s comments to fit your hate-filled agenda.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Flap:
By the way, don’t you have an abortion clinic you need to bomb? After all, there’s a lot of embryo killing going on there.
June 24th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
With Imus, the drugs have baked the brain .. give the guy a break
June 24th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Good point, Nomad.
June 25th, 2008 at 12:28 am
I don’t know how you get arrested six times in three years, but I suspect you really have to work at it.
And if the cops are guilty of anything, in the case of Mr. Jones, it’s probably that they’re thinking, just inside their own heads, “Oh great, this guy again.”
June 25th, 2008 at 1:56 am
TDro, don’t try to associate me with terrorism because you disagree with my position. Are you stupid or just an asshole? Or a stupid asshole?
Give me some concrete quotes that I’ve made that are specifically “hate-filled” that fulfill my “hate-filled agenda” or stop making bereft comments as empty as your skull.
June 25th, 2008 at 3:14 am
And come to think of it, since everybody’s really getting into it on this thread, and I’m just arguing with myself, I’m offended on behalf of the cops.
June 25th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
TDro, don’t try to associate me with terrorism because you disagree with my position. Are you stupid or just an asshole? Or a stupid asshole?
———————-
OK BREAK IT UP!!! TDro, stop calling right wingers terrorists. No matter how loopy some of their views may be they just want what they think is best for the country. And flap, don’t take comments like that so seriously.
June 25th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
@flap

——————-
You’re absolutely right. In fact, there really was nothing particularly offensive about Imus’ first “nappy headed hos” comment. All it was was a Chris Rock-style joke that makes fun of hip hop culture. It’s absolutely ridiculous that Chris Rock can say stuff like that and it’s funny but when Imus says it it’s “deeply offensive”.
I mean, come on, the guy is a comedian. Lighten up and have a good laugh, even at yourself once in a while. Imus makes fun of EVERYBODY, not just black people. I mean, the make makes fun of himself on a regular basis. He doesn’t take himself at all seriously and I don’t see why anybody else should. In fact, I’m upset that I don’t get to see him on MSNBC in the morning. I hope that they would consider hiring him back at some point, though I doubt they will. Fox should hire him and throw Steve Douchey and Gretchen Airhead off the air!
June 25th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
And Imus was clearly giving Pacman the BOTD at the beginning when he was saying “stuff happens” at a nightclub. To be honest, he’s giving Pacman a lot more credit than I would give him!
June 25th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Flap:
My, my you are touchy. Resorting to personal attacks. I suggest you go to the right wing sites and spew your hate-filled rants. Now, who would Jesus call a stupid asshole with an empty skull?
June 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Comparing the comments: TD, yours is much worse. He called you a stupid asshole, you basically accused him of a willingness to murder in the name of a specific principle. I’d rather be called dumb than accused of criminal intent, desire, want, etc. I think most anyone would.
June 25th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
I agree with WFG
June 25th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Just leave Flap alone. He’s never said anything “hate-filled”. He can defend himself, but this is pissing me off. Some of his view points are annoying, but HE’S not bc he’s never presented them in a typically arrogantly conservative manner.
June 25th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
No one agrees with everyone all the time. We’ve all had points of view that others have disagreed with. There’s nothing wrong with polite arguments.
June 25th, 2008 at 4:39 pm
Some of his view points are annoying, but HE’S not bc he’s never presented them in a typically arrogantly conservative manner.
I have to disagree on that one for sure although I suppose I could be accused of the same.
I don’t know flap personally but I would guess he’d be against the bombing of an abortion clinic. I’m assuming that of course.
Well isn’t this nice. Let’s all gang up on each other, shall we?
June 25th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
YOU ALL SUCK!!!!!!!!!

June 25th, 2008 at 9:52 pm
BBFF~ those comments were directed at TDro, not you.
June 25th, 2008 at 10:04 pm
hahaha, gotta love Imus, he is the perfect entertainment for Americans, sort of like the comic relief for the United States…!
June 25th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
?
June 25th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
TDro, I will personally attack people when they personally attack me by associating me with terrorism or calling me names. I am hoping this does not reflect the way you act in real life.
Other than my “hate” directed at you (because you’re an asshole), please demonstrate quotes that I’ve made that make me “hate-filled.” I’m waiting.
And to the rest of you, I think I’ve attacked your arguments but hopefully never you individually.
June 26th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
The sidekicks on the Imus show say worse things than Imus and somehow Imus gets the shaft.
Sidekick: They are hard core hos.
Imus: They are nappy-headed hos.
He said that AFTER his sidekick made that comment.
Imus asks “what color is he?”
One of his guys said “he is African-American.”
No, he was asking for his color. But, not realizing that, he says “there you go.” I don’t think Imus was fully awake.
June 26th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
ehhh, I can not wait until Imus messes up again. He’ll probably say something about Obama that will make everyone upset….
Imus, Imus.
