On Thursday’s Radio Show…
June 26th, 2008, 6:00 PM EDT
• Firearms aficionado Ted Nugent joins Alan to discuss the Supreme Court ruling on the right to keep and bear arms.
• Paul Helmke, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, debates the high court’s decision with John Lott, Jr., author of The Bias Against Guns.
• How will today’s ruling affect the presidential race? Alan analyzes the impact.

this isn’t going to be a fun episode for alan.
June 26th, 2008 at 6:39 pm
honestly, i’m not a huge fan of the economic and otherwise statistical arguments. i think the pro gun side has the superior moral principle on the matter.
June 26th, 2008 at 7:22 pm
This could be the day America sees which side has the “Real Patriots.” If Democrats could keep this nation united knowning the games this administration played with our national security; uniting the Party will be no problem. How we handle this debate shows how much we have grown. We do has some “Common Sense.”
June 26th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Looks like a good show for tonight.
June 26th, 2008 at 7:31 pm
You can’t tell me that there isn’t someone more sane to get on the show than the Nuge.
June 26th, 2008 at 8:51 pm
Yeah I’m gonna listen and may even call, as I’m a gun totten liberal.
June 26th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
That was surreal. One moment Sean’s praising Bush’s handling of N. Korea, then, after a short rebuff from Bolton, he acts like he hadn’t sucked up to Bush in the least, agreeing quickly with Bolton.
Alan, when did Sean and John start dating?
June 26th, 2008 at 9:49 pm
This should be some real fireworks. Kudos to Alan to having the strongest people on both sides of the debate with Lott versus the president of the leading gun control organization.
June 26th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Bush’s administration has been a disgrace and Pelosi’s congress has been a disgrace. Stop trying to push the blame one way or the other…they’re all worthless to us.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
I agree LV, everyone in washington is worthless!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
Honestly, that debate was rather lackluster. Oh well.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
Awesome, Alan!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
This especially favors women.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Told you guys he’d hate the topic.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Alan, you left out transvestites. The tranny community deserves an apology.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pm
“Gay illegal aliens who need abortions”.
This is why I love Alan Colmes.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:40 pm
lol earl is an idiot!!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
Ahh. self defense for the Klan is this caller’s motto
June 26th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
moron caller number 2
June 26th, 2008 at 10:41 pm
It’s ok. Earl said he loves America. lol.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
hey, my wordpress ain’t working

i’m trying to put tobias to bed and started BUSTING OUT LAUGHING. that poor trucker, he didn’t no what to think.
ROFLMAO
June 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
there’s no need. crime doesn’t exist. all events occur in a vacuum.
twit.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:45 pm
“know” what to think
June 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
hopefully i’ll be back online within an hour. gotta get the brat to sleep. :0)
June 26th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
i have a question. why have him back on?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
I wanna talk to the nudge!
Hey Cheryl and Epiphany!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
dave, glad to see ya back man
June 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Good to be here.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:48 pm
If I call in agian tonight what should I ask/comment.
When they ask me the town Ill say Liberal Land.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
Has no one ever read the Schulman (sp?) article on the grammar of the 2nd amendment?
June 26th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Yes, and tell him W F G demands he include transvestites among those who can have guns.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
Not I W F G.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:52 pm
lol OK!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
By the way, here in New York City (pop. 8.2 million) our crime rates were through the roof during the late 70’s and 1980’s. One of the most dangerous cities in the nation back then. I can personally attest to that. Then came Rudy Giuliani and Mike Bloomberg. And through them they established and upheld some of the most strict gun laws in the country.
Our crime rates are now down to what they were in 1963 and we are also now the No. 1 safest city in the country for cities with a population over 100,000.
Oh well… there goes the neighborhood.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
it’s online, but there are a couple of versions, at least. i’ll try to find it.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:53 pm
When they ask me the town Ill say Liberal Land.
by Dave from Kentucky June 26, 2008 at 10:50 pm
OH that would be GREAT! Hey Dave!
June 26th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
http://www.constitution.org/2ll/schol/2amd_grammar.htm
June 26th, 2008 at 10:55 pm
Yeah here in Kentucky having a gun is like having a car. Everyone has one but some dont know how to use it.
And that caller that mentioned the murder suicide in Ky, he needs to understand that where that took place was across the river from Indiana which is refered to as Kentukiana which the rest of use in eastern and central kentucky dont claim as part of the state.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:56 pm
Hell I got three guns, two rifles and a handgun, all relics from Americas wars.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:58 pm
Well, Epiphany, I respect that the crime rates may well be as you say, and I don’t claim more guns will in fact equal less crime, but that the principle on the side of self defense is the greater, even superceding it’s potential negative effects on the latter.
June 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Damn they told me to call back when alan opened the phones..
June 26th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Or, if you don’t like my mealy language. My right to choose a guns as a means of self defense supercedes crime rates.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Well If someone had had a gun at the KY incident they could have shot that crazy fucker!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
a guns? oy at me.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:01 pm
I understand how you feel WFG. Self defense is extremely important. But with our gun laws here, my city has become safe again which for me supercedes one’s need for self defense since in the end there is so much less crime and murder.
I do have a very nice knife collection. I also own a lead pipe. :)
June 26th, 2008 at 11:05 pm
Also pepper spray. Haven’t had to use any of that yet.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:08 pm
A buddie of mine said this also repeals the assualt gun ban. Anyone know if this is true?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
Well, to me it’s about the person, not the collective. Way I see it, I shouldn’t be a sacrifice for a statistic, though I’m clearly willing to sacrifice people for a principle.
I am either really evil or really good.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:09 pm
I don’t know, Dave. I wouldn’t make any assumptions on that.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Btw, I gave a link to the article I mentioned.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
“…though I’m clearly willing to sacrifice people for a principle.”
WHAT?????
Anyway I’m buying this tomorrow. I suggest the rest of you do the same before they sell out.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00067F1CE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
June 26th, 2008 at 11:16 pm
The crime rate is a statistic. A lessening of capacity to acquire a gun out respect to ensuring that rate stays low creates increased, though how much cannot be known, risk to my person in the event of need. But we’re talking hypotheticals.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
LOL what the hell is that?
Bodonka donk tank!! Classic!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
I call that a sacrifice for a statistic.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:21 pm
looks like something out of Dune or Star Wars
June 26th, 2008 at 11:22 pm
we really don’t near to hear ted’s music..
June 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
The best parts on that link are the comments. Absolutely hilarious.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
*need to hear
June 26th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
“price doesn’t include shipping and handling”
June 26th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
Well, Ted’s really making my side feel good now.
Thanks Ned Sploogent.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:25 pm
irreverence??
June 26th, 2008 at 11:27 pm
Oh God… another segment with Ted. Might be a good time to take a quick shower.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
Ted is not funny at all, in that clip of him being a dick, he was appealing to the dumbass rednecks that like his music and his show!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:30 pm
I’m not really a fan of the current song, so I’m not sure going to Nuge’s will be better.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
or better.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
Yeah I called the screener said I would get in this hour, so maybe I’ll get to talk to the Splooge!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:31 pm
What should I ask/comment?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Well, you’re time will be limited, so if you don’t get to plug Liberace Land, I’ll understand.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:33 pm
my son won’t go to sleep tonight. he’s driving me NUTS. damn it.
epiphany, remember what i was saying last night about enjoying my “quiet time”? this is one of the examples of why i enjoy it so much.
anyway, just wanted to check in and see how much fun u guys were having without me. :-(
June 26th, 2008 at 11:37 pm
This guy is a shell of his former self, and to compare himself to the blues greats like Muddy waters and Howlin’ Wolf, is insane. What an idiot.
btw they wont let me talk to Ted ;(
June 26th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
Dave .. ask Ted if it’s true that he needs to use a booster seat at the dinner table ..??
June 26th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Not much fun Cheryl I’ve been snubbed by the screener.
Oh well I’ll get my licks in next hour.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:40 pm
Dave.. ask Ted if it’s true that he uses a booster seat at the dinner table ..??
June 26th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
I might be shooting myself in the foot posting here.
If they see it. :P
June 26th, 2008 at 11:42 pm
Dave .. ask Ted if it’s true that he uses a booster seat at the dinner table ..??
June 26th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Thank God Ted is leaving!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:44 pm
She hung up on my. hmmmm
June 26th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
ok. will be listening. later all.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:51 pm
Alan, I thought Ted needed to apologize before you started using his music again. Or at least not smell like dead animals anymore.
I did not hear him apologize… don’t be a hypocrite, Alan ..
June 26th, 2008 at 11:52 pm
i don’t even know who ted nugent is
June 26th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
the screeners don’t hang up on you on purpose, dude. honestly, it’s really easy to get on the show.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:54 pm
I dont understand they put these idiots one and make Americans look bad, all I want to do is point out that there are so many unregistered guns it would not make much of a diffrence.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
hey, Cheryl… what’s his bedtime routine? We do storytime with a candle, and then after a song, little dude is out like a light. (course I could just be lucky)
Do you lie down with him? I know mine would not sleep if I left him alone…
June 26th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
If they were banned.
June 26th, 2008 at 11:55 pm
So should I call back then?
June 26th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
AH! Mission Accomplished! Missed Ted for the last segment AND I’m clean! WHEEEE! lol.
Cheryl, let Tobias listen to Alan while he’s in bed. Not that that should put him to sleep but Alan’s voice might calm him down.
NOOOOOOOOOO to Nugent for Free For All! Don’t like Guns and Roses either. Try something from the greatest American rock band in history, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers!
June 26th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
hey sky! what are you doing online at NIGHT??? what a treat to have you here!
yeah, i lay down with him. he’s slept with me since the first night i brought him home, and now i’m in a one bedroom apt so he still has to sleep with me. he won’t go to sleep unless i lie down with him.
you do bed stories with a candle? sky, you are such a hippie! :0)
June 26th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
Maybe get him a twin sized bed that goes up against one wall, that’s what my parents did when we shared the same room.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:00 am
late-night babysitting…
You think that makes me a hippie: you should’ve seen me and Zanzan singing the entire Sgt Pepper album word for word today.
Sorry bedtime’s rough.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:02 am
yeah, E. that’s a great idea. i’m definitely ready for some more space. i think i’d have to get one of those tiny toddler beds for it to fit, though. i’ve also thought about giving him my room, and putting my bed in the back half of the living room. and then buying one of those decorative screen things to separate my bedroom area from the living room.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:03 am
Im up next!
June 27th, 2008 at 12:04 am
he DOES listen to Alan. it’s funny. lol, you went to take a shower so you could miss hearing nugent.
sky~ do you do any gardening?
June 27th, 2008 at 12:05 am
low volume Moody Blues will get him sleeping ..
June 27th, 2008 at 12:05 am
okay dave. you can do it!
lol
June 27th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Yeah, I wish I did more gardening, really, my guy’s got the green thumb at our house. Plus he’s got a vested interest in the medicinal plants. (that’s right buddy: they’re LEGAL)
Sadly, our Sirius radio is at home, so I’m not even hearing the show…
June 27th, 2008 at 12:09 am
haha just heard Dave. HEY!
June 27th, 2008 at 12:10 am
good job Dave …
June 27th, 2008 at 12:10 am
good job, dave! that’s so cool. i zoned out, and only paid attention when i heard you say that it was crazy for him to mention himself with the other guys. thanks for giving LL a shout out!
June 27th, 2008 at 12:10 am

June 27th, 2008 at 12:11 am
Thanks guys its nerve racking knowing your next and have to wait 5 minutes through the break.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:11 am
so, what, do you garden?
June 27th, 2008 at 12:19 am
i’ve graduated from house plants. the apt that i rent is actually the first floor of a house (the 2nd floor is another apt). i’ve got periwinkle, petunias (which i don’t really like, but it could just be the colors), feather flower, salvia
June 27th, 2008 at 12:22 am
just got some zinnias. i love coleus. i planted some coleus and begonias on the side of the house, where it gets a lot of shade. preparing the flower bed SUCKED.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:23 am
wait, it’s not the feather plant it’s celosia
June 27th, 2008 at 12:25 am
wtf alan, don’t you watch CSI? how do you not know about ballistics?
jk
June 27th, 2008 at 12:27 am
alan, they’re called STRIATIONS.
you really don’t watch CSI, do you?
June 27th, 2008 at 12:27 am
ah, we’re on a first floor, too.
what I really want is bougenvillias (sp?), bu what we have is many morning glories. And tomatoes, red peppers, lettuce, and cucumbers.
Again, I’m not the big gardener…
Gotta sign off, though I’m heading home.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:28 am
okay, goodnight sky!
June 27th, 2008 at 12:29 am
Who is this guy that wants to get a mob together and lynch Obama?
June 27th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Alan should have hung up on him after the first sentance.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:40 am
LOL “Court T.V I watch it!” line of the night!
June 27th, 2008 at 12:41 am
now this guy watches CSI.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:42 am
i just watched the nugent video. totally tasteless.
June 27th, 2008 at 12:47 am
yeah he’s a moron, lets just ignore him.
June 27th, 2008 at 1:02 am
good job, dave
June 27th, 2008 at 1:07 am
