it’s got some interesting arguments, but i really can’t imagine not having any kind of theistic belief. just seems weird. but lots of people don’t, and they’re perfectly happy living that way. i don’t understand their opinion on the afterlife (if they even think there is one). i’m still doing the research.

Atheism, I don’t get into that type of stuff. Sorry I like more traditional things and am more old fashion. I am young, but my readings sort of fall towards the history, religion for Christianity, politics, and reference sections of the non-fiction section. I know my bookcases is overfull with books and I still have a wish list of books that I would like to own. Need to have at least 1-3 more bookcases and a library room.

Romania to rule on abortion in UK for girl, 11
A government committee in Romania will decide tomorrow whether an 11-year-old who was raped by her uncle can travel to Britain for an abortion, the health minister, Eugen Nicolaescu, said yesterday.
He said the case, which has divided the medical community, children’s rights groups and the public, was delicate because it involved medicine, the law and morality.
The girl is 20 weeks pregnant, which is over the 14-week legal limit for abortions in Romania. Her parents say they found out she was pregnant on June 2 when they took her to a doctor, as she seemed unwell. She told doctors she had been raped by her 19-year-old uncle, who has since disappeared.
Two local government committees in north-east Romania where the girl lives have passed contradictory rulings, with one saying the girl should be allowed to have a legal abortion in Britain, as her parents want. A Romanian living in Britain has volunteered to pay the costs.
Another committee ruled the birth should go ahead because mother and foetus are healthy. Abortions beyond 14 weeks are permitted only if the pregnancy threatens the mother’s health.
In Britain an abortion is legal up to 24 weeks if two doctors decide the risk to a woman’s physical or mental health will be greater if she continues with the pregnancy than if she ends it.
Romania’s child protection authority said the girl should be allowed to have an abortion, as she is already traumatised by the experience of rape and pregnancy. But the national doctors council said the rights of the foetus should be considered and the pregnancy should go ahead.
A spokesman for the Orthodox church, to which most Romanians belong, said the case was “an exceptional situation which must be treated in an exceptional manner and the family is the only one to take this decision”. Associated Press

Very interesting and tragic story Cheryl.
Oh my God that poor child. That is just heartbreaking. I hope and pray they permit her to go to England for the abortion. An 11 year old girl’s body and vagina are not, for the most part, equipped to give birth to a baby. She could be badly injured and bleed to death. I suppose she could have a cesarian but even then, her body might not be able to handle it. To be raped at that age and then to be forced to give birth to her rapists child. That is truly an abomination.
Even her church agreed that the family should make the decision. Wise and compassionate church. Very very sad situation. Poor thing.

epiph~ yeah, that story sucks. very sad indeed. i wonder how the little girl is holding up, how she feels, what she wants to do. 11 is too young to really know how you feel about a situation like this, but what i mean is- does she absolutely hate that she’s pregnant? is she in counseling? is she depressed? with all this hoopla surrounding whether or not she can get the abortion, i really really hope they’re taking care of her psychologically.

I even read that COLIN POWELL might endorse Obama. If that happens, that will be huge. Probably the most powerful endorsement Obama will get. I hope that happens, would be wonderful!
