McCain Doesn’t Like Taxes, But Should Still Pay Them
When you have so many homes, it’s hard to keep track of all the bills. Maybe that’s why San Diego County has been after the McCains for the last four years to pay their tax bill. It’s one thing to default because you don’t have the money, and I’d have sympathy if that were the case. It’s quite another thing when you have an estimated $100 million fortune and you aren’t responsible enough to pay your bills, and then pay only after the press inquires about it.
Shortly after NEWSWEEK inquired about the matter, [a] McCain aide e-mailed a receipt dated Friday, June 27, confirming payment by the trust to San Diego County in the amount of $6,744.42. County officials say the trust still owes an additional $1,742 for this year, an amount that is overdue and will go into default July 1. Told of the outstanding $1,742, the aide said: “The trust has paid all bills shown owing as of today and will pay all other bills due.”
Can you imagine what the right wing would do if a similar story came out about the Obamas not paying their taxes?

Bad story that makes Liberals look like they are picking on McCain and digging for stuff to make him look bad. Like we need to dig? The man has argued both sides of every debate since 2000. He has changed his position and sold his Conservative Credentials or his soul for power. We want change and the only thing that changes is McCain’s mind. How can we trust him to change anything? He is in lockstep with Bush and that’s a Bush third term. Who cares why he missed a bill? He paid it. Don’t give him sympathy or make him the victim playing “Politics as Usual.” Why is Obama better?

Of course mention McCain and his tax problem. Ignore al franken and the other democrats that don’t pay taxes.

How can the McCain campaign keep making mistakes like this? It is a horribly run campaign. They make a mistake or misstep every week. Sometimes several a week. Amazing! He has to go back on so much that made him a good politician to kiss the asses of the conservatives. I’m glad I’m not a Republican, because how could you possibly be excited by this guy…

I can’t believe these people didn’t pay a measly 7 grand in taxes. Like it would really break the bank for them.
Maybe, as in Al Franken’s case, they trusted their accountant to keep the bills in order and the accountant dropped the ball. I can actually understand how a wealthy individual could let that happen, bc they put all their trust in the accountant’s office to take care of their financial matters.

Many wealthy people are poor-payers. If they only owed 4 or 5 thousand in back property taxes that’s probably not much at all compared to their total tax bill. I would think somebody at S.D. Trust will hear about how they are not doing such a bang-up job in managing the McCains affairs. I don’t think it’s that big a deal

If I were the Republicans, I would play up the Democratic play-up of this non-story. It really makes even less sense than Senator Obama on the 2nd Amendment.

A question I would like to know is why did San Diago County waited four years to get the taxes?
Here in where I am, people names get listed in paper yearly who house taxes are past due after the county gives a warning. In some counties sales the taxes to the highest bidder. The county gets the money, the bidder can make the tax payer pay a higher bill, and the tax paypayer can lose.
They might want to try something simular next time.

Well if you’re just “little people” the county slaps a tax lien on your property the minute you’re past-due.
But if you’re a big-time senator or politically well-connected then somebody in the clerk’s office gets up off their butt and goes to see the county executive to say you didn’t pay and to ask what should they do. And maybe the executive says, “Don’t do anything till you hear from me,” and then months go by, and months turn into years.
And, people being people, I’m sure even the richest among us can imagine some reason why they should be excused for not paying on time, or why, if the system were fair, they should not have to pay anything at all.

Let’s be honest here for a moment shall we? You would not have sympathy for McCain for any reason at any time period. Why pretend? We ALL know how you feel about him so just don’t lie.
