Congratulations To Tyson Homosexual

July 1st, 2008, 4:32 PM EDT

h/t Crooks and Liars.

Well, Tyson Gay, who won the 100 meter race at the Olympic trials this past weekend.  But the right-wing anti-gay American Family Association automatically replaces the word “gay” with the word “homosexual” on its news site using auto-replace.  Thus:

Tyson Homosexual easily won his semifinal for the 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials and seemed to save something for the final later Sunday.

Homosexual didn’t get off to a particularly strong start in the first semifinal, but by the halfway mark he had established a comfortable lead.

I can only imagine some other headlines:

“Runner Gives Homosexual a Hard Time.”

“Homosexual Wins Olympic Gold.

“Homosexual Gets Married.”

I’ve always loved the actress Marcia Homosexual-Harden. And the music of Marvin Homosexual.  And let’s hope the AFA doesn’t print the lyrics to Christmas songs.  It’ll be trouble when they get the part where it says “Now we don our homosexual apparel.”

Responses to this post...

  1. Yes, this is very stupid of the right wing, but can we never read or hear of anything about the borelympics here again? That’s right, I said the borelympics. I expect Alan’s show to be a refuge from the o oly olpm o-zzzzzzz-zzzz-zz

  2. What about the Flintstones theme song?

  3. It must be difficult to be so homophobic that even reading the word “gay” would cause pain. We all know that being overly homophobic just means you’re gay yourself, or at the least it just turns you on…

  4. Ah, the unintended consequences of hijacking symbols. Chiding the AFA makes sense, but will the larger thuggery be addressed?
I’d like my rainbow back, please.

  5. Wait, I thought the auto replace was done because calling those people gay was un-PC and homosexual is now the preferred term….or did I get that backwards?

Oh dear I can’t seem to keep up with all the PC BS.

They are what they are gay, leisbian, homosexual, WHATEVER. It all means the same thing….they like the same sex.

  6. I wonder if these people would be so anti-gay if they actually researched the origins of our Good Book. (I say “our” because I was raised Christian…)

  7. Considering the Good Book says being gay is a sin I am going to go with yes on that one Cheryl.

  8. What if you don’t give a shit what the Bible says Karma? What if you think the Bible is just a book written by a bunch of fags?

  9. The religious conservatives argue that gay marriage will ruin the institution of marriage, redefine marriage and destroy civilization. Some even claim that gay marriage is forcing religion to conform to the gay agenda, thus violating the freedom of religion. This is all fear; fear based in a lack of logic. There is a big difference between State Marriage and Church Marriage. Just because gays can marry with State permission the Church can still have its religious freedom to deny gay marriage within the Church. Straight marriage is under attack by many other factors than gay marriage. Infidelity, substance abuse, child and spousal abuse, economic stress, emotional and sexual repression, and career stress all tear apart or degrade the institution of marriage. These factors have been around a lot longer than gays wishing to get married. As for civilization being destroyed there is no proof that gays can bring down an empire. Most empires fall due to over-expenditure of resources, having a military that are to expensive to maintain, boarders that are to vast to protect, corruption by the leaders, or take over by foreign invaders. Some religious social conservatives like to point to Europe as proof that allowing gays to marry is bringing birth rates down. This is another falsehood. Why? Birth rates in post-industrialized Europe have dropped due to increases in people getting married later in life and having fewer children, a rise in the cost of rearing children, an increase of the use of birth control and planned pregnancies vs. unplanned, and many other factors other than gays getting married. All the arguments that religious conservatives argue fall apart like the Roman Empire.

  10. FuRyUs,
I could care less what you think…about anything. What you believe is between you and whatever God/Godess/Diety/Tree/Bird/Flower or nothingness you chosse to worship. Why should I care. We will all find out who is right and who is wrong when we die so until then there is no point to dwell on it.

  11. P.S. I won’t tollerate anyone using the word fag so unless you can reframe from insulting people like that I will no longer respond to you.

  12. Karma~ hey girl! Always glad to see you braving the liberal waters here. :-)

I think you completely missed the point of my comment though. I’m referring to the origins of the canonical books found in the Protestant Bible. My journey of researching said origins has taken over two years. A lot of time and a lot of money spent on books discussing what’s called New Testament “textual criticism”.

  13. Fury~ I just read what you wrote. Be nice! Fag is a mean word.

  14. Hey!!!!! It’s awesome when we are on at the same time! I love have intelligent debates!

I got what you are saying…..not really disagreeing…just reamarking that die hard Christians will always point out that the Bible says homosexuality is wrong and in thier mind that is the end of the discussion. Know what I mean? The problem with all die hard religious zealots is that they blindly believe something without doing independent research.

  15. [...] Congratulations To Tyson Homosexual? [...]

  16. Thanks, Karma! I love when you’re on, too.

Since we’re on the subject of religion, and I’ve already shared a bit about myself… the reason I know what I do about the Bible is bc I consider a person’s spirituality the most important thing of their life. From your spiritual center comes the way you treat yourself, family, friends, and community. It’s been hard doing this research, and it hasn’t lead me where I thought it would… I wish that more of the conservative Christians in America (well, Christians in general) would do the same. At the very least they would realize that we DO NOT LIVE IN A THEOCRACY, and we therefore cannot force our way of life on to other Americans.

  18. Hey leave the homosexuals out of all of it…they are my best friends!

  19. Hey, I actually read most of a John David Prince post, and I must say thanks to John for exercising some editorial control and edging toward brevity.

And he correctly states that “Straight marriage is under attack by many…factors…”

And I agree, and I’d like to point out that here, as in many other regards, people inevitably look to the dust in the corner when they don’t know what to do about the roof caving in on top of their heads.

  20. Cheryl,
I TOTALLY agree with you. My studies on Christianity (I am also a believer) have led me no where near where I thought they would. And what is funny is that Christ never says we should force people to believe the way we do (one of the HUGE differences in the Muslim religion). He says to show the world his ways and if they reject him then to shake the dust from our shoes and leave.

  21. But how can you still believe anything that you read in the Bible? I haven’t totally decided whether I still believe in any religion or not. I really don’t feel that I can trust anything that I read in the Bible anymore.

I started by just studying the Gnostic Gospels, then other non-canonical works, in addition to the books found in the Catholic and Egyptian Orthodox Bibles. One of the issues that really makes me angry is the Arian Controversy that prompted the first Council of Nicea. If not for Athanasius, we would have a different idea of the nature of Jesus (i.e. if he was of the same EXACT nature of God, or God’s son and simply LIKE him).

It truly pains me to say it, but I’m starting to feel that I believe in a bunch of myths.

  22. Just for Cheryl:

  23. thanks for the vid, boogieman… way to depress me!

jk. good food for thought. i’m still collecting my research, but that is an interesting theory. i’m not familiar with any other god myths that use the number “12″ like this. (myths are also something i’ve started studying to look for parallels)
