Oil And Coal Good For The Environment?

July 2nd, 2008, 10:57 AM EDT

That’s the argument Chris Horner attempted on Hannity and Colmes Tuesday night, in response Harry Reid’s correct assertion that oil and coal harm the environment and our health.

But Horner, who is with the oil-funded Competitive Enterprise Institute, when asked if coal is good for the environment answered, “To the extent that it creates wealth, yes”.  So we are to judge envronmental well-being by how rich we are, according to Horner.  “Healtier is wealthier,” says the oil poet.  Yes, oil and coal are good for the environment that is in a vault in Horner’s bank, maybe.

  2. Horner misspoke.

What he meant to say is that coal is “good,” to the extent that it creates “wealth”, and, in that case, the environment be damned.

And he’s an old man, so why should he give a damn? He’ll be dead long before the mid-west turns into a desert.

  3. Anything that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer is good for the environment. Maybe we could burn the poor for fuel…

    (sarcasm)

  5. That’s Harry Reid - where’s the Horner clip?

  6. Sure fossil fuels harm the environment and our health. It has been so since the discovery of fire. Here we are in our modern day and we still need it, depend on it and our economy would collapse without it. You left wing wackos, ” What is the alternative?” Why throw your little temper tantrums on issues you can do absolutely nothing about. I’m sure every single American would love for a new evergy scource to be developed for a better quality of life. I’m sick of all the crying and stupidy. Really people get a damn life.
