Cindy,

Thank you for taking the time to make your views known to me. I see you used capital letters only when you wanted to shout. What seems to be at the root at your disgust with me is, as you put it, my “extreme liberal views”. If someone with my same comportment were expressing concepts with which you agree, I doubt that you would be as offended.

My views on drilling are supported by the energy department of our government, the same administration many conservatives defend. They’re not views I made up out of whole cloth. Your contention that liberal views are not right is your rightfully held opinion. Opinion is what our show is about and opinion is what I’m hired to give. My opinon, not someone else’s. Because our show presents both sides, it’s not expcted that each viewer is going to agree with what is expressed. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be on the station. After all, to present only the views that make you comfortable would not be “fair and balanced”.

As for “kissing ass to the liberals”, would I be a smarter, better person if I were “kissing ass to the conservatives”? I happen to be a proud liberal, a political ideology thathas a rich history in our country. If you like, I’ll even send you a copy of my book, Red, White and Liberal and you can tell me what you think (not in all caps, I hope). Liberalism isn’t a cult any more than conservatism is. Do conservatives deserve to be accused of not having any thoughts of their own simply because I don’t agree with them? If my ideas agreed with you, wouldn’t you then be correct in telling me I have no ideas of my own?

I am not reporting the news, as you suggest. I am commenting on it. Regardless of who is in the chair opposite me, shutting my “left nut idiotic mouth” would be the opposite of what I was hired to do. And the show is called “Hannity and Colmes” with my blessing. After all, my name is the last one you hear. I’m not sure how much talent I have, as that’s quite subjective, but someone must think I have something, or instead of appearing on radio and television I’d be home by the computer writing nasty letters to those who are.

I’m sorry to hear that my “left nut mouth” and my “left nut ass” bother you so. I bet if we met in person and you actually knew me, you’d hate me only a little less.

Alan

Responses to this post...

  1. “would I be a smarter, better person if I were “kissing ass to the conservatives”?”

You already do that when you let Hannity and his acolytes walk all over you.

  2. I like it Alan. My response would have been much more hateful…

    mwauhahahahaha

  3. I am a fan of Sean, but one could argue that he is *rude* to some guests. So because Alan arguably uses more decorum when debating, and (not to get TOO transcendental, but…) tries to “rise above it all” by being CIVIL with the opposition, that is viewed as a weakness? Isn’t civility important? We’re living in a society, for crying out loud.

I disagree vehemently with a lot of what Alan says, but because he packages it in such a positive way I am more receptive to his ideas. In fact, of all the liberals on the air, who do you think is more likely to swing right-wingers to the liberal side (or at least get them to consider it)? Randi Rhodes or Al Franken? As liberals, these people may be champions for your cause but like conservative firebrands such as Ann Coulter or Michael Savage, they’re probably not going to win many converts.

Alan, you’re damn talented as a host. On H&C you’re great but radio is your best medium. There are very few liberal radio talk shows I could stomach, and perhaps that means I am closed-minded. Nevertheless, the fact that I *enjoy* your show says a lot about you, your civility, capability to produce an entertaining show, and your potential to pull people towards your ideological viewpoint.

  4. Dear Alan:

Count your blessings that “Commentary” isn’t an “Equal Opportunity” field. Someone found you and you serve their purpose of being the “Fool for Hannity.” The balance you provide makes Sean look like a God! Cindy has a point in attacking you, but that’s not good for Fox’s business. Fox is making money from flag wavers like Sean. If Fox were looking to share the truth, they could find people who could share an opinion in far more talented ways than you. Thank your lucky stars and God above that you can play Sean’s Monkey. He plays you like an organ grinder and keeps you on a tight leash. It hurts all Liberals when you look so weak. That’s why people like me sit at computers and write ugly letters. We are trying to find out WTF you did to get that job. You suck because you have little backbone. You make it too easy for Sean to look like he’s right. Clearly, you need some help in formulating your argument. Don’t get too cocky behind that Constitution. You aren’t saying anything worthwile. Making Sean look so good keeps you in that chair. Monkey see, monkey do. Liberal monkey keeps his job with no talent and sorry opinions.

  5. Alan. you render phony Hanitty speechless often. I listen nightly. How anyone can’t see thru his fake koolaid Blatanly phony stuff. You are never outalked by him, I have no clue what these idiots are refering to. I bet Sean got his ass kicked plenty in school. This is my “freedom” message to you. People, please don’t think highly of a guy who still blindly refers to the “architect” of a 27% approval rating administration (Carl Rove)as if it was a positive thing. I’m going to take a shower now, even talking about Hanittys tired BS is irratating

  6. Alan, keep tooting your own horn, I find it very amusing.

  7. This was an excellent response, Big A! I love that you quoted some of her nasty (but admittedly creative) little phrases. You made excellent points, my favorite being As for “kissing ass to the liberals”, would I be a smarter, better person if I were “kissing ass to the conservatives”?

  8. There were two high school kids on H&C one time, and I don’t remember why they got the air time, but I remember Hannity bullying them till they were both practically in tears, and that’s where my opinion of Hannity acquired form and substance.

  9. You know the greatest part of this whole ordeal is that you did respond!!

She could have sent a love letter to Sean everyday, and I would bet money that he would never respond.

Gotta win them anyway we can.

    Kudos Alan!

  10. Jeez Alan take it easy will ya !!!!!!
    LOL.

  11. So because Alan arguably uses more decorum when debating, and (not to get TOO transcendental, but…) tries to “rise above it all” by being CIVIL with the opposition, that is viewed as a weakness? Isn’t civility important? We’re living in a society, for crying out loud.
    ———

That’s why I get disgusted with liberals who call Alan a “sellout” or “weak”. I DON’T want him to act like Hannity or Rush Limbaugh.

On another note, I can’t believe that Alan actually took the time to read, much less type such a detailed response to that e-mail. I probably would have deleted it after the first couple of sentences!
