On Wednesday’s Radio Show…
• “Nuts!” Shouldn’t Jesse Jackson know to watch his mouth when he’s near a microphone? Alan analyzes the Reverend’s harsh words about Obama.
• Is Rush Limbaugh trying to sabotage the Democratic Party Platform? Michael Yaki, the Democrats’ National Platform Director, joins Alan.
• Iraq wants a timetable for withdrawal of U.S. troops. Alan asks Col. David Hunt how America should respond.

7,925 gallons of uranium solution spilled at a factory at the Tricastin nuclear site in France. Let us time travel back to Chernobyl, Three Mile Island, or the Incident in Ohio. This is not a good record. Proponents of Nuclear Power like to claim that with modern advances it is very safe to expand its use. Well, two of the four incidents I mentioned both occurred with modern advances in technology. There is no guarantee that even with new technology another Chernobyl would not happen here in the USA. What we do not realize is the fact that even with all the technology in the world Human Error is always a factor. Building more Nuclear Plants is not an answer to the price at the pump. It is not a Renewable Resource. So the price will increase as Uranium becomes scarce. There is the waste issue and potential devastating accident factor, which make it a very unstable source of power with multiple thousand-year storage costs. A lot of people are unaware that some of the same energy companies that deal in oil and gas also deal in Nuclear Power Plants. Solar energy is permanent or renewable, cheap, and can be installed on an individual basis. That is why large energy companies are not in any rush to push that form of energy. We could all be independent of an electric bill if solar technology is funded with the money that would have gone to Nuclear power plant development. But that would leave the electric companies out of business. If we put dollars into producing affordable solar panels or nano-solar technology we could allow each individual citizen the ability to produce their own energy and use as much of it as they wish with no reliance upon any outside monopoly. The proponents of Nuclear are either greedy or blind to the potential in other much safer forms of energy.
July 9th, 2008 at 7:46 pm
For all the money we would spend on clean coal or nuclear energy we could develop actual solutions like the multiple renewable forms of energy. The estimated amount of coal in the US is about 250 years. That number was tallied before anyone ever mentioned using coal reserves for gasoline. We use coal mainly for electricity. The use of coal for gasoline would drive up the cost of coal and possible cut the supply for electric use by half. This is not a solution. Instead it is creating a slow moving blood clot that will eventually reach the brain and end in stroke. Nuclear power is not any better. It is another non-renewable energy. Uranium supplies are estimated at around 150 years. The cost will continue to rise just as with coal or oil. Therefore nuclear is not a real solution either. You might ask, “What are the solutions,” there have been so many renewable sources of energy. Many are very creative. Like the use of Ocean currents, Ocean wave movement, Tidal movement, Wind, Solar, Biochemical technology and other Biological Engineering concepts show promise or are already in development and production. That is where our money should go. But the real solutions free individuals from being attached to large energy companies. Oh, that is just awful, for them, but liberating for us. Imagine a source of energy that will never go up in price due to the fact that it is renewable. I already have, can you?
July 9th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Alan, you’re not goimg to talk about the passing of the FISA bill today?
The psssing of that bill is sickening and hideously disappointing. So much for the Constitution. Ah well, it’s just a piece of paper, right georgie-porgie?
I think Congress now has a 9% approval rating. I hope it goes down to zero.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
By the way, the passing of the FISA bill is a million times more important than a slip of the tongue and emotions by Jesse Jackson.
But Jesse is better for ratings of course.
That is not necessarily directed at Alan but the entire news media.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Yes Epiph, the 4th Amendment gets trashed and they don’t care. Just don’t mess with the 2nd amendment…
July 9th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Apparently Lefties can’t tell the difference between military intelligence and evidence gathering for criminal prosecution.
The 4th Amendment is about evidence gathering for criminal prosecution.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Col.Hunt is always a good guest.Should be a good show.I subscribed to the podcast today on the recommendation from many of you here. Some reason though it would only download the first two hours.
July 9th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
The fourth amendment is about unreasonable searches and seizures.
Wiretapping American citizens doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with military intelligence or criminal evidence.
July 9th, 2008 at 9:09 pm
KOOL ! Im always drinking the col. koolaid.
Hey Alen I heard rush signed a contract for $400 million? when do you get a raise?
since fox claims to be #1 im aproving a pay hike to 600 million for you.
July 9th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

YES!!!! Finally it’s happening!
July 9th, 2008 at 11:24 pm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmoud_Ahmadinejad_and_Israel
Alan, so Mr. Ahmadinejad did not say “wipe off map” (according to some), he said “vanish from the pages of history.” Depends on how you translate the idiom.
No matter how you look at it, he wants Israel gone…right?
July 9th, 2008 at 11:56 pm
Epiph~ WFG emailed me on MySpace to say that he wouldn’t be frequenting the blog anymore.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Alan~ what the heck, man? I went to comment on Internet Graffiti and it wouldn’t let me get past the temporary welcome page.
Here’s my Graffiti:
If Alan is a closet conservative, Bush is a closet liberal.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:13 am
Cheryl, why??? Well maybe you can’t say on here. I wish he would say why. I feel very bad if that’s so. I would miss him.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Obviously, Epiphany, it’s because Alan Colmes is a sellout to liberals because he is on Fox and if you post on his blog and you are liberal you are also a sellout to liberals since you are contributing to the sellouttery.
And me, I’m a conservative sheep who likes Alan because Alan is secretly a conservative who does Sean Hannity’s bidding and laundry.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:35 am
Alan does Sean’s laundry? I wish he would do mine. I’d make it worth his while, lol.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:41 am
I started posting on Alan’s original blog a few weeks after he started it. The first people I saw on here were WFG, flap and RC from Smithtown.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:43 am
I hope WFG comes back…I like seeing the regular posters.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:48 am
i’m going to post his email, but i’m going to delete some things to protect his privacy. hold on.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:52 am
While I can’t say I won’t later change my mind, I have decided to move on from LL. Aside from the lack of time… to be a good contributor, try as I have, I cannot help but feel affronted by Alan, and I doubt I’m the only one. What bothers me most is that so many of us try to give him cogent, respectful thoughts, and in almost all displayed cases he has given more respect to vicious comments largely written by morons. It’s one thing to be busy, but to have some need to entertain detractors over people trying to be serious and decent is just odd to me. I like a little bit of insulting, but not this much. Even direct and simple questions take time to get a response, if at all. I’ll likely still listen, and could read a long a bit at LL, but participation’s just about over. I see it as futile now. You’re the only person I’m mentioning this to, so you can repeat it on LL or choose not to.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:53 am
i posted the above bc that’s basically something that any of us would post on here.
i see where he’s coming from, but i don’t always get a reply from alan. he can’t reply to every email from everyone. i mean, i can see how W can feel a little put out bc he’s been a listener for years.
idk…
July 10th, 2008 at 12:56 am
lol, Epiphany. you’d make it worth his while, huh? i bet you would…
July 10th, 2008 at 12:57 am
another comment here prompted me to google for info on limbaugh’s new contract- 400 mil will buy him a lot more twinkies and cigars.
Rush Limbaugh jockeys a $400M deal
BY RICHARD HUFF
DAILY NEWS TV EDITOR
Thursday, July 3rd 2008, 1:05 AM
Rush Limbaugh has a new deal to keep talking for another eight years and he’ll get paid a pretty penny for it.
Make that loads of pennies, reportedly upwards of $38 million a year.
“This is exactly where I want to be, doing what I was born to do, with an amazing audience and phenomenal support from affiliate stations and sponsors,” the conservative host said. “I’m having more fun than a human being should be allowed to have.”
Terms of Limbaugh’s new long-term deal with radio syndicator Premiere Radio Networks were not disclosed. In an interview with The New York Times, Limbaugh said the deal would bring in $38 million a year and came with a nine-figure signing bonus.
A company spokeswoman said as a matter of policy they “don’t disclose the specific details on any talent agreements.”
“Rush Limbaugh is the biggest star in terrestrial radio today,” said Michael Harrison, editor of Talkers magazine. “He is a tried and proven commodity. He is certainly not a fad.”
If Limbaugh’s numbers are to be believed, that puts him in the $400 million range if all goes to plan over the life of the contract.
Likewise, getting exact figures on contracts can be tricky because many are built on performance incentives and bonuses along the way.
Still, Limbaugh will be bringing in major bucks, but is still short of Howard Stern’s $500 million, five-year deal inked with Sirius Satellite Radio.
Limbaugh’s show, heard locally on WABC (770 AM), is broadcast by 600 radio stations around the country.
Harrison estimates Limbaugh reaches 14 million people a week, making him the top show on the air. Sean Hannity’s syndicated show reaches 13 million.
In comparison, Hannity earns an estimated $5 million a year for his radio work, but reportedly is close to inking a new pact for $20 million a year.
Limbaugh will mark his 20th anniversary on radio next month.

I understand what WFG is saying as well. Have you ever noticed that Alan almost hates getting compliments on the air? He thinks it’s boring. But if someone insults him, he takes much time to respond. He never posts complimentary emails but instead posts tons of hate mail. Again I think it’s because he sees the “fan” stuff as boring.
I don’t think it’s because he doesn’t appreciate his most ardent fans. But the negative stuff is more provocative. I too wish that Alan would occasionally respond to some of us on this blog or converse a little more in a response to a personal email sent to him but I don’t think it should be taken in a negative way from Alan. I don’t think he means to hurt anyone’s feelings.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:09 am
it’s possible that WFG is taking it personally, but it’s hard to say because i don’t know how many times he’s emailed Alan and if and how Alan responded. more participation on the blog would be nice, but i can’t think of any bloggers who regularly reply to comments.
i honestly don’t know what to say. who knows.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Maybe he’s just sick of the bile that Vinnie Pee and his ilk vomit up all the time. If you hate liberals so much, why are you on a liberal blog? I stay away from conservative blogs because I think they’re assholes. Yet I’m sure I’ll get some smart ass response like always…
July 10th, 2008 at 1:55 am
fury~ you never cease to crack me up. you remind me of a middle-aged man sitting in a bar after a hard day at work, griping about his job and life in general. always griping, but somehow lovable.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:21 am
fury~ if you go to the ‘general comments’ section of the site and read Vince P’s last 2 comments, you may actually find that the two of you share a similar sense of humor. find the link in the above right corner of any page of the blog.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:59 am
I don’t hate “liberals”. I have a rather strong dislike of the Far-left, and the laziness that the Left has been saddled with in the past 10 years.. the almost complete abdonment of rational discource and the immediate resortation of child-like antics like “Vince Pee”.
How old are you? It’s embarassing to think adults conduct themselves as such.
July 10th, 2008 at 6:11 am
Vinnie Pee…
July 10th, 2008 at 7:25 am
LOL at the Leftist being a Leftist.
July 10th, 2008 at 7:44 am
Vince~ Fury was correcting you. You cited him as calling you “Vince” Pee, when it was actually “Vinnie” Pee.
I’m sure he’s just joking.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:24 pm
here is WFG’s blog for those of you who want to comment on his page and virtually slap some sense into him-
http://introspectivebore.wordpress.com/
the situation calls for tough love.
July 10th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
@Vince
I get the impression that, to you, anything left of center is “leftist” or “far-left” and people like John McCain are “liberals” that you don’t have a problem with.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Cheryl and Epiphany…I want to make the blog more interactive. We’re working on ways to do that on the new site via a prominant chat area where everyone cal particpate, not just in the comments section. Tell WFG I’m open to his suggestions. As for posting my positive emails…they’re too self-serving, for one thing. But also true is that the overwheming amount I receive is negative.
July 10th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
I am not a supporter of John McCain.
July 10th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
Sounds great Alan!
@Vince – Of course you don’t! He’s too “liberal”.
July 10th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Thanks for the update, Big A.
July 10th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Michael~ what you been up to man? I haven’t seen you on here as often as usual. You get a new job or something? btw, are you leaving for college in the fall?
July 10th, 2008 at 5:59 pm
Thank you so much Alan for the info! But as far as a chat area is concerned, will there be anyone to moderate this thing? Otherwise it could be total chaos when it comes to people trying to “debate” each other.
Especially if flap is there. lol! :p
July 10th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Alan, I want to be the moderator. I’m good at it. I keep Flap and Epiphany from killing each other all the time.
If I can’t be the mod, then please pick one of your hot-ass producers to do it. Also give them my number. Thanks!
July 10th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
@Cheryl
I wish, the job market is awful and it’s not like I haven’t been looking.
http://money.cnn.com/2008/07/10/news/economy/teen_jobs/?postversion=2008071013
I’ve been around here though, I guess there just hasn’t been as much that I felt compelled to comment on lately.
I did start a “job” at Appletell, but that’s not really anything that takes up a lot of my time (or pays for these ridiculous gas prices!) or keeps me away from LiberalLand….I usually check here at least once a day.
You can check out some of my articles if you’re into that type of stuff:
http://www.appletell.com/apple/author/goonanm/
Maybe Alan can try a discussion forum using http://www.phpbb.com/ Not so sure if that’s necessary since we all check the blogs he posts, but it will give us another place to go to chat about stuff that Alan hasn’t posted about anyway.
July 10th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
Has anyone else noticed that “Your comments are awaiting moderation” lately? I just posted a reply to Cheryl and that’s what it says, and last time that happened my comment never showed up
July 10th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
OK, now it seems like it’s up.
July 10th, 2008 at 8:17 pm
the “comments awaiting moderation” thing is usually just when you provide more than one link in your comment.
i know that the teenage job market is suffering this summer. they were predicting that earlier this year bc of the economy.
i have to put my son to bed, but i’m def going to check out this appletell business. i gotta check out what you’ve been writing!
July 10th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
i’m proud of you, michael. i like the articles. i’d recommend that you contiue linking to the page as you get new articles up.
