pooh~ check you out, man! you’re first!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:03 am
i know….scary times there
July 12th, 2008 at 12:03 am
“Gotta have faith…that’s all I can say. I say that as a lover and lifetime student of science, too.”
as a lover of science, have you ever taken the time time read anything by Richard Dawkins or Victor Stenger? or did you brush them off as nonsensical demon-inspired books?
you quoted the book of john. do you know who wrote the book of john?
now, i’m not trying to challenge your faith so that you don’t believe. “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…” 1 Peter 3:15
July 12th, 2008 at 12:08 am
Well, I’m not a Darwinist, Epiphany.
Okay, God doesn’t exist: why should I care about humans? Furthermore, who cares about chimps? No absolute morals means why should I care about anyone?
by flap July 12, 2008 at 12:09 am
~~~~~~~~~~~~
That’s not an answer flap. I was giving you an example of how there are living beings who know nothing of God and yet can experience sadness without knowledge of a God.
I also read a story about how a chimpanzee was observed risking his life to save a mate who was drowning in a river. Chimps are afraid of the water yet risked his own life and supressed his natural fear to save another being. And he did this wiht no knowledge of God. This chimp performed a moral act. If there can be no morality with God, then how did this occur?
I didn’t say that God doesn’t exist. I said that you don’t necessarily need God to be moral. I didn’t when I was a child and I know athiests and agnostics, as I have said before, that are more moral than most religious people.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:15 am
pooh~ i guess no one else wants to join us.
they’re all floating in the universe with Mr. Terror Snake
July 12th, 2008 at 12:15 am
Cheryl, I can’t “prove” my faith to myself no matter how much research I’ve done that supports it. Furthermore, there isn’t anything that I could read that would stop me from having the faith I have. Does that mean I’m close-minded? Perhaps, though I don’t think so. I’m confident in my faith…logically and supernaturally.
I view Dawkins as an extremist, so, no, I choose not to read stuff he writes. He isn’t just an atheist, he’s anti-religious.
Who wrote the Gospel of John? I suppose you’re going to tell me it isn’t John?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:16 am
Alan~ i don’t like the Nugent song. I’d prefer GNR.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:16 am
man, i’ll read what you wrote tomorrow.
this is killing my buzz.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:17 am
No, no, Epiphany, I am saying that sadness is IRRELEVANT without God. Who the heck cares if anyone is sad? Why should I care?
What is “moral” without those morals coming from an immutable source? What is a moral act based on? Saving another being is moral? Why?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:17 am
“Who wrote the Gospel of John? I suppose you’re going to tell me it isn’t John?”
OMG Flap. No, John did NOT write this Gospel.
Now, I apologize to everyone for bringing this up. but i must focus on enjoying the last 40 minutes of alan’s show without the prescense of my son! (he’s with my parents on friday nights)
July 12th, 2008 at 12:20 am
one more thing i’d like to say~ the fact that American politics is populated with men who actually live out their Christian eschatalogical beliefs, is a very dangerous reality.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:21 am
btw, the apostle John didn’t write the book of Revelation either. that’s the majority opinion held by atheist AND Christian New Testament Scholars.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:22 am
what the hell is this guy singing?
now THAT really kills my buzz.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:22 am
I think that who wrote the Gospel of John is, at the very least, subject to debate. Can you definitively say John didn’t write it?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:23 am
Saving another being is moral. Why? Because it gives you a feeling of having done something good. It doesn’t have to be analyzed in words. It’s an instinctual human feeling of goodness that overwhelms you. It doesn’t need language to define it. It just IS.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:23 am
morality is POSSIBLY a result of psychological evolution. helping to save others of our ‘tribe’ contributes to the survival of ourselves.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:24 am
it’s such a treat to have pooh, ‘mouse, and vince here tonight. i wonder where dave is. fury rolled out. guess we were boring him.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:24 am
Haha I wished I had bought a bottle of “Mikes Hard Lemonade”. It has 5% alcohol.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:25 am
Waaaait, Epiphany, you sound like those crazy Christians…it just “is”?
Maybe I think killing off excess human population is moral because it makes me feel good.
So the idea of morality is meaningless.
“It’s an instinctual human feeling of goodness that overwhelms you.” That could refer to something else, but I will not get lewd… :-P
July 12th, 2008 at 12:25 am
did you guys hear that one of MLK’s son is suing his siblings?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:25 am
It’s a treat to have Vince here? I would beg to differ lol!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:26 am
Why is he suing?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:26 am
those drinks tend to have too much sugar in them. i’d recommend that you buy some rum and diet coke.
btw, did you ever try coke zero?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:26 am
wait, i said it wrong. the other 2 are suing the brother, bc they said that he “misappropriated” funds from the individual estates of Coretta and MLK.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:27 am
flap~ i hesitate to go back to this subject, but here’s a book written by a nice christian pastor that i think you should read.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:29 am
FFAF is now Jesus Time apparently…
July 12th, 2008 at 12:29 am
LOL, Fury.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:30 am
this religious discussion is a little heavy for a Friday night don’t ya think? I mean neither of you are getting anywhere with each other over it.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Hahaha. Epiphany and flap are debating moral absolutes again
July 12th, 2008 at 12:31 am
Hannity & Colmes don’t get anywhere with each other, either…
July 12th, 2008 at 12:33 am
“Hahaha. Epiphany and flap are debating moral absolutes again”
ROFLMAO, Michael!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:33 am
Hahahaha flap!
yes sometimes my feelings define for me what is good. And yes it might feel good for someone to kill someone off but for the good of humanity we create laws to stop or punish that person after the fact. For the sake of humanity.
It’s not that I don’t understand what you’re saying flap. I understand how predatory humans can be. How evil and low they can sink. I don’t necessarily have a problem with bringing God into it. I’m just saying that you don’t ALWAYS have to bring God and then the bible into every situation because ultimately everyone will interpert God differently according to their particular religion or view even within the same religion. I do believe that there is good in all of us even without God.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:34 am
am i the only one who thinks the nugent free for all music is LAME?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:34 am
No Cheryl. He should use the GNR because he’ll never have to worry about Axl Rose saying something offensive because no one litens to him when he says anything anyway…
July 12th, 2008 at 12:36 am
drill here drill now pay less
July 12th, 2008 at 12:36 am
Sorry, I don’t mean to get so heavy with the discussion on a Friday night. Now that is definitely a sin.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:36 am
Epiphany, there are many atheists out there who are a lot nicer and more “moral” than many Christians. All I’m saying is the *basis* for morals gotta come from SOMETHING unchanging or it’s might makes right, majority rules, opinions, etc.
In other words, I am saying that morality requires a measuring stick. As Cheryl says, feel me?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:37 am
doesn’t anyone else on here have myspace? for goodness sake, how can you people not have a myspace? or at the very least, facebook!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:37 am
“Sorry, I don’t mean to get so heavy with the discussion on a Friday night. Now that is definitely a sin.”
it’s my fault for bringing all this up.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:37 am
“As Cheryl says, feel me?”
lol, flapper.
no, cheryl says “u feel me?”
July 12th, 2008 at 12:38 am
I blame Cheryl for all of this thread’s ills.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:38 am
it’s my fault for bringing all this up
I know CC, but we won’t hold it against you..
July 12th, 2008 at 12:38 am
LV~ so, are you a repub or a dem?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:39 am
I blame Cheryl for all of this thread’s ills.
lol, flap.
i love to hear alan try to shut someone up… “yeah”… “right”… “um hmm”…
July 12th, 2008 at 12:40 am
Independent, lean towards the right
July 12th, 2008 at 12:40 am
oh. well, you and flap will get along great. the poor man’s outnumbered on this blog.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:41 am
Is this open mic poetry night?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:41 am
Do I feel you flap? Damn I can’t even see you.
Oops! Ahhhh there you arrrrrrrrrre…
July 12th, 2008 at 12:43 am
Hahaha…I’m not conservative except for I’m against the nanny state and I hate the government having their hands in my pockets. Actually I’m against all the damn politicians. I say vote em out every election.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:43 am
I also believe in the live and let live theory. If a gay couple can do a good job of raising a child and be able to explain gay vs hetero, then go for it.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:44 am
I don’t like drunk drivers and I think pot should be legalized.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:46 am
right on, lv. right on.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:47 am
i think that alan should write a new book after this election.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:47 am
I second that Cheryl.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:49 am
Pot should be legalized…it’s not any worse than alcohol.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:49 am
AND WE STILL WANT LIBERALLAND TEE SHIRTS!
And mugs.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:49 am
I agree flap. For adults though, not minors. But I also think the legal age for drinking should go back to being 18.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:50 am
Haha E, I have Oreilly stuff!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:50 am
he should also write about what it means to really be a liberal. he gets attacked for not being liberal enough. he’d have a good perspective o n that.
liberalland t-shirts? hmmmm…
flap~ do you smoke pot?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:51 am
i think that 18 is a little young for drinking. i’d sign off for 19 or 20. but i do agree that 21 is too late.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:51 am
O’Reilly stuff? Oh gee I don’t know what to say LOL!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:53 am
It was 18 when I was that age. If we can send them off to die in an occupation/war and trust them to vote in these pinheads in office, let them get drunk!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:53 am
T-Shirts, Mugs, anything else? Doormats?
July 12th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Heck no, I don’t smoke pot.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Hahahah what can I say E? Some of his stuff is cute.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:53 am
You shouldn’t drink until you’re 25. 18 for pot.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:53 am
Beer mugs!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:54 am
i think that a LL shirt would be funny if it had a tag line that said something like “liberals have more fun”. something like that, but better stated.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:54 am
Blah, blah, blah,blah . . .
July 12th, 2008 at 12:54 am
Alan!!!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:54 am
25?? Noooooooo that’s too old. It would just criminalize something else.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:55 am
Alan I’m going to get a LiberalLand tattoo on my chest! With the map too!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:55 am
Driving 55 in California that would be awful . . No Jose
July 12th, 2008 at 12:55 am
how bout this for a Liberal Land t-shirt-
“bc republicans are boring”
July 12th, 2008 at 12:56 am
I think a FFAF shirt would be cool
July 12th, 2008 at 12:56 am
Great show Alan . . later on Cat Daddy . .
July 12th, 2008 at 12:56 am
lol, epiphany! as much as you love alan, i wouldn’t put it pass you.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:57 am
George W.hiney Bush! LOLOLOL!
July 12th, 2008 at 12:57 am
jesse jackson is a black hole… LOL
July 12th, 2008 at 12:57 am
‘how come you don’t have your own tv show like hannity does?’
‘bc i’m not as good as he is’
THAT is why I LOVE Alan Colmes.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:58 am
jesse jackson is a black hole… LOL
We’re not allowed to say that Cheryl.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:58 am
i wonder what the live chat will be like. i think it will be easier to handle. more people might be inclined to participate that way.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Thank you and goodnight! :D
July 12th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Ok, Alan either a FFAF shirt or a shirt that says on the front Incompetence. On the back Bush administration
July 12th, 2008 at 12:59 am
well, i think it was just a play on words vs a racist remark.
July 12th, 2008 at 12:59 am
later, flap.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:00 am
I thought it was stupid. So now we can’t use bakery terms or scientific terms? I own “absence of color” shoes?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:00 am
i guess i’ll head to bed, too.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:01 am
Nite all
July 12th, 2008 at 1:01 am
I own “absence of color” shoes?
lol. yes, that’s they way we’re going to have to speak from now on. politically correct to the EXTREME.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:02 am
The reason I’m not good in chat is if I’m going to say more than 1 sentence I like to think about what I’m going to say, this can take a minute or two and then I like to edit what I’ve written. By the time I click on submit I’m 5 or even 10 minutes behind eveyone else. I can’t keep up. And then there’s always having to deal with complete chaos. Alan will have to moderate.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:02 am
‘night Epiphany.
‘night Michael.
‘night Pooh.
‘night Fury.
‘night LV.
‘night Alan!
‘night Aimee.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:02 am
You know… sometimes being “politically correct” is just plain having GOOD MANNERS!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:03 am
talking about pot? Pot is the reason I’ve been off and on tonight. Sometimes weed is more important than Alan. hahaha
July 12th, 2008 at 1:03 am
epiphany~ don’t worry. we’ll cross that bridge when we get there. and during live chat, no one’s going to really be speaking in paragraphs, for the exact reason that it moves too fast.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:04 am
FuRyUs, don’t be makin me jealous.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:05 am
I’m high on Alan. Hahaha!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:05 am
“talking about pot? Pot is the reason I’ve been off and on tonight. Sometimes weed is more important than Alan. hahaha”
lord, Fury. that explains a lot… lol
“i’m high on alan”
epiphany, why don’t you just have his baby already?! good grief, woman! :0)
July 12th, 2008 at 1:06 am
hehe
July 12th, 2008 at 1:07 am
dude~ you can’t smoke weed and chat online at the same time?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:07 am
fury, if that’s what you’ve been doing then you should have a lot more he’s than 2!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:07 am
I don’t think he wants to have children.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Alan is the Cat’s Meow!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:08 am
If he gets threatened as much as it seems he does, I don’t blame him for not wanting kids. Too dangerous for them
July 12th, 2008 at 1:09 am
“a lot more he’s than 2!”
what does that mean, lv?
epiphany~ i’ve wondered that myself. it’s bc i always wonder about people who don’t have kids. it’s hard for me to imagine not wanting to have any, but i know a couple of people who’ve made that decision. do you have any?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:09 am
nevermind, i get it now. fury has probably been smoking so long that he doesn’t get the giggles anymore.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:10 am
Cheryl, fury said hehe…smoking pot makes ya laugh more than that.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:10 am
people are fucking crazy, so i imagine that he does sometimes get some serious threats. his sister-in-law was stalked before. her beauty is obviously no justification for the stalking, but she and her sister are babes.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:11 am
I blame Cheryl for all of this thread’s ills.
————-
I blame the government….mostly Bush
July 12th, 2008 at 1:11 am
i understand why some people choose not to have children, but then i DON’T understand it. does that make sense?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Bush is incompetent. But to be fair, he inherited a lot of problems that we face now.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Cheryl I love kids. Other people’s kids. Well sometimes. No I don’t have any. I have never really seriously wanted children. It would probably be nice to have your own children some of the time but not all of the time. It just isn’t my cup of tea.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:12 am
thanks, Michael! i always know that you and E have my back!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:12 am
Well Cheryl it isn’t exactly fun to deal with some of these people when you’re high. Although people are generally cool on Fridays. Probably because they are drinking. I like to enjoy the weed, not have a lot of negativity. Ya know what I mean sweetie?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:13 am
It makes sense. I never wanted children until I got pregnant. No way was I gonna abort and having children was the best thing I’ve done. I love them more than I could ever believe.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:13 am
i hear ya, E. that’s why i said i understand it, but then i don’t.
there are a LOT of times when i wish i had more time for myself. tobias can be so overwhelming, and there’s so much that i want to do academically, professionally, and intellectually. he was an unplanned pregnancy, so i was definitely not ready for motherhood. i understand that some people fell that they make a more positive contribution to the world as individuals. some people want to be parents, some don’t.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:14 am
i know exactly what you mean, Fury. i felt bad for brining up religion, bc then i didn’t want to keep debating it bc it was ruining my alcohol buzz.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:15 am
LV~ are you the one who lives in Arizona?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:16 am
No, I have a house and property up for sale there though. hahaha, gotta put the ad for it in sometimes. Anyway I’m in Vegas. Ya know, what the alcoholic mayor here said – what happens in vegas stays in vegas?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:18 am
are you the one i was discussing gardening with?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:18 am
I wonder why Alan never gets on after the show?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:19 am
Cheryl, yes…a few weeks back.
Fury, he probably wants to get home to eat his ice cream.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:20 am
Alan is taking the F train home to have cookies and ice cream.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:20 am
probably rushing home to the wife. i think he spends a lot of time at the studio.
anyway, it’s really cool that he’s tried to make a comment or two every day this week.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:20 am
I noticed that,,,it is cool he gets on the thread.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:21 am
okay, cool!!! i’m so glad that you came back!
yeah, i hear you about trying to sell the house. you gotta plug it whenever you can. i think there were a husband and wife in AZ trying to sell their house through a hundred dollar essay contest. they ended up giving all the money back, though, bc they didn’t have enough entries. brilliant idea on their part, though.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:21 am
I love it when I see Alan on here! :D
July 12th, 2008 at 1:22 am
Some people are getting desperate. I hope it doesn’t get to that point with me.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:22 am
i’ve always known that he reads the thread. he’s definitely always read it. but i like that he’s trying to make a comment or two every day now.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:22 am
Sorry. I meant when he’s home eating his cookies and ice cream. hehehehehhehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
‘Nuff he’s?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:22 am
hahahah much much better
July 12th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Alan is taking the F train home to have cookies and ice cream.
as a hated liberal, i really hope he doesn’t ride the train at night. people are crazy.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:23 am
Cheryl, did you ever get the hostas?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:23 am
ALAN~ you’d better not ride the train home at night, you hear me? take a car service. send the bill to FOX.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:23 am
no, i didn’t! i’m going to have to post pics of my garden next week.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Probably takes a car service at night.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:24 am
Fury~ are you single? if so, do you look like any of the men in the movie 300? if not, do you look even remotely like the men in the movie 300?
jk
July 12th, 2008 at 1:25 am
that’s cool. the hotter it gets here the more plants die off. Although I was gone for a week and my tomatos made it through.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Yes I look like Xerxes…
July 12th, 2008 at 1:25 am
so epiphany~ will you show me around NYC when i come up? i’m thinking about coming up after September. call me paranoid, but i don’t want to be in the city if there are any anniversary attacks for 9/11.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:25 am
Yeah I’m single. Wanna ride the F train with me? hahahahahhahahahahhahaha
July 12th, 2008 at 1:26 am
LOL. well, as long as you don’t talk like him, then we’re good to go.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:26 am
lol. you’re a moron.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:28 am
NYC is very safe now, you don’t have to worry. I would be the worst person to show you around as I have a problem with my spine and don’t walk around much. I will call the mayor, Mike Bloomberg and HE will show you around!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Alright, I’m gonna go watch the local news see how many people got killed here today or how many idiot parents “forgot” thier kids in the car in the summer in the desert. Nite all
July 12th, 2008 at 1:29 am
LOL FuRy!
July 12th, 2008 at 1:29 am
nite LV. please come back next week! it’s fun talking to you.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:30 am
moron? I’m gonna cry now…
July 12th, 2008 at 1:31 am
July 12th, 2008 at 1:31 am
July 12th, 2008 at 1:34 am
can’t. i’m scared of dogs.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:35 am
I’ve only been on myspace a few times. I don’t have an account. I think they want your real name and it can be seen by others.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:35 am
lol, e. i’m sure he gave it to you for free.
fury~ do you have aim or yahoo messenger?
July 12th, 2008 at 1:35 am
I don’t get the myspace thing either.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:36 am
it may have been that way in the beginning, but not anymore. your name is private and you can set your profile to private so that no one is able to see it unless you want them to.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:36 am
i didn’t get myspace at first, either. i even wrote a blog entry about the phenomenon. i found that after i had my account for a few weeks, it was just so much fun. it provides the opportunity to express yourself, it makes communicating with friends on a daily basis fun and convenient. i really enjoy it now.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:37 am
Give me your myspace page link. I’ll look at it tomorrow. I have to lay down, I’m sooo tired.
July 12th, 2008 at 1:39 am
here’s my blog entry on that. you don’t have to read it now, but here it is for reference tomorrow:
