Yes, I Support Peta, Proudly

July 20th, 2008, 11:32 AM EDT

Dustin Jolley decided to call me names because I “admitted” on the air that my wife and I support PETA, in the wake of their latest, great video campaign.

Alan Colmes, the Liberal half of Hannity and Colmes admitted today that he and his wife the (sister of Conservative radio host Monica Crowley) are PETA supporters. I always knew Alan was an idiot. But I never thought the he would admit to being a supporter of a left-wing, anti-American, anti-meat, pro-abortion, extremist, terrorist organization such as PETA. Thank’s for basically indirectly telling us that you’re secretly a vegan, Alan, as if I and anybody else wouldn’t have put it paseed you anyway.

Gee, I didn’t know that animal rescue, supporting spaying and neutering of pets, and alerting us to animal abuse is left-wing and anti-American.  Unless, of course, only liberals and America-haters (not synonymous, Dustin) care for our furry friends.  Nor did I know that PETA has anything to do with the pro-choice movement, or that they’re terrorist extremists.   Did someone give you a conservative thesaurus? I love how people decide to make preumptions with no supporting facts. I’m not a vegan; not even a vegetarian; however, I do support PETA on key issues that transcend left-right politics.  And that should earn me the name-hurling anger such a post displays?

Oh, and just in case I negleted it earlier, here is a link to PETA.

Responses to this post...

  1. I don’t know who Dustin Jolley is or why anyone would care what he or she says, and my suggestion is that this person get back on the barstool and have a few more beers, and chew some gum, and try to avoid serious injury the next time his or her knee starts jerking.

This reminds me of the guy who called the show this week to ask what planet Deepak Chopra lives on.

Obviously a very sophisticated brand of intellect.

  2. Supporting spaying and neutering of human beings makes you a communist and un-American. A baby in the womb is the MOST sacred place on earth.
Spaying and neutering of human beings and leading the charge to support it, makes you a sick BASTARD !

  3. Sorry – but you are the one un-informed. PeTA wants you and all the rest of us to be vegans! They also want NO human-animal contact! That’s right – no domestic animals of any kind. They want them GONE!! DEAD! They have a rescue – and guess what – by their OWN admission, they killed 97% of the animals they took in.

They are NOT a humane organization. They DO have ties to ALF and ELF (terrorist groups) and they are promoting the human race to go extinct! They are closely aligned with H$U$ – who has the same agenda!

Sorry – don’t care if you’re right or left – PeTA is NOT what it purports! Investigate what you say you’re supporting! Otherwise, that’s just plain stupid!

  4. Very funny Alan. However, you still haven’t convinced me of your well intentioned, yet ill conceived postitions. Of course, Sean gets to tell you that every night. Lol. Check out my response on my blog, dustinjolley.blogspot.com

  5. Spay and neuter your pets if you wish. Support voluntary spaying and neutering of others pets if you wish. However, PETA wishes to eliminate all pets and they support mandatory spaying and neutering of all pets as a means to that end.

Further, they are not above killing animals if it suits their purpose. Two recent examples. The episode in NC wherein the PETA staff was killing dogs and cats they retrieved from vet offices while telling the staff they would find them good homes. Then there is the revelation that PETA kills over 95% of the animals it takes in. Another recent example was the theft by PETA employees of a dog with a collar. They took the collar off the dog, discarded the collar alongside the raod, and drove off. Fortunately, the owner was a law enforcement officer and he observed their actions.

PETA isn’t about saving animals. PETA is about denying you and me the right to own animals. Anything else they say is merely a stepping stone to that goal.

If you want to support spaying and neutering of animals, give to your local shelter, not to PETA.

  6. Sorry Alan. I’ve been a liberal all of my natural life. The fact that animal rights organizations such as PETA, IDAL, et al seem to have become the new cause de jour have led me to conclude I might have to burn my Democratic voting card. How so many of you could become so duped by this group of idiots is beyond me. Do you REALLY know who PETA is? http://www.petakillsanimals.com would be a good place to start. Just so you don’t the HSUS is much better, Wayne Pacelle has admitted in the past (when it wouldn’t have hurt his millions in donations a year) that he would rather that another dog or cat never be born. Google Wayne Pacelle and animal rights quotes and you’ll get an eyeful.
If you’re hoping that a LOT of Democrats who love dogs and cats would vote Republican, pushing the PETA agenda is a wonderful place to start that process. Open your eyes.

  7. God Bless you Lisa.
Liberals have their MINDS closed and hardened they cannot SEE THE TRUTH.
If you think aborting a human being is NOT killing,or think that they are NOT a human being, then you are a DAM FOOL.

  8. Wear your blinders proudly. Didn’t you know that PETA fakes its videos?

  9. Alan, I’m probably as much of an animal lover as you are. I’ll even say that as an overweight society we SHOULD stop eating so much meat for health reasons. It would do us a lot of good to just eat chicken and fish. Anyway, I do think PETA’s goals are noble (and I can’t believe I’m saying that!), but I do think they go overboard in reaching some of those goals.

I believe we should vigorously protect against the abuse of animals and look out for their welfare. In fact, taking a religious perspective that these are God’s creatures leads one to want to protect animals even more than taking a Darwinian “survival of the fittest” perspective. Because if we’re just evolved animals, every other non-human animal is genetically inferior and should be exploited, right? Why not? But, as a Christian, as a believer in God, I love and respect all of God’s creations: animal and human alike.

  10. PETA is not an animal welfare organization.
PETA spends less than one percent of its multi-million dollar budget actually helping animals. The group euthanized (killed) more than 1,900 animals in 2003 alone — that’s over 85 percent of the animals it received. In fact, from July 1998 through the end of 2003, PETA killed over 10,000 dogs, cats, and other “companion animals” at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters. That’s more than five animals every day. On its 2002 federal income-tax return, PETA claimed a $9,370 expense for a giant walk-in freezer, the kind most people use as a meat locker or for ice-cream storage. But animal-rights activists don’t eat meat or dairy foods. So far, the group hasn’t confirmed the obvious — that it’s using the appliance to store the bodies of its victims.

    PETA assaults common decency.
PETA’s leadership has compared animal farmers to serial killer (and cannibal) Jeffrey Dahmer. They proclaimed in a 2003 exhibit that chickens are as valuable as Jewish Holocaust victims. They announced with a 2001 billboard that a shark attack on a little boy was “revenge” against humans who had it coming anyway. They have branded parents who feed their kids meat and milk “child abusers.” In 2002 PETA organized a campaign to sabotage a popular Thanksgiving hotline, which provides free advice about cooking turkeys. The group has even contemplated (literally) dancing on the grave of Kentucky Fried Chicken’s Colonel Sanders. And in 2003, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk wrote to Yasser Arafat, pleading with him to make certain no animals are harmed in Palestinian suicide-bombing attacks.

    PETA exploits sick people.
PETA famously suggested that drinking milk causes cancer, in an advertisement mocking then-NYC Mayor Rudy Guliani with the words “Got Prostate Cancer?” PETA has also erected a billboard reading: “Got Sick Kids? Drinking milk contributes to colic, ear infections, allergies, diabetes, obesity, and many other illnesses.” In 2003 the group held a demonstration in front of a Toronto-area hospital that was under a SARS-related quarantine, spuriously alleging that animal husbandry has something to do with the epidemic’s spread. Upon hearing that Charlton Heston had fallen ill with Alzheimer’s Disease, Ingrid Newkirk suggested that PETA would “toy with the idea that both Alzheimer’s and CJD [Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease] are related to meat consumption.” According to a profile in The New Yorker, she considered “renting billboards that would display a large picture of a gaunt Charlton Heston foaming at the mouth.”

    Please do more research Alan.

  11. It’s a testament of our society’s humane ethics that groups like PETA even exist.

I assure you, there’s no group like PETA in places like Sudan.

If only we could send the members of such extremist groups to countries where the people actually are the monsters these groups like to pretend that we are.

Let PETA go to Saudi Arabia and see how dogs are treated there.

I sometimes get a sense of doom that we have so many people in this country who are essentially so fullfilled that they could devote time into such ultimately useless things.. meanwhile so many people around the world are in misery or conflict… i get the feeling that such an unreality is going to catch up with us.

  12. Well Jerry, I have to tell you….quite a few of my liberal friends DO have their eyes open and see PETA for exactly what it is….a group of whacko freaks who like to bilk the public for money so they can buy more phenobarbital (from God only knows where as they are UNAUTHORIZED to use it.) to kill more dogs and cats that could have easily been adopted.

Just noticed a typo in my post above also….IDAL should have read IDOA.

  13. Peta supports rrescue?? What a joke..Peta supports KILLING.. they took in over three MILLION dollars last year and “saved” 17 animals.. what happened to the rest.. THEY WERE KILLED BY peta ( their name does not deserve capitol letters). Liberal or conservative. NO ONE should support peta…
Friends Don’t Let Friends Donate to peta.. give to your LOCAL shelter.. Think Gobally.. Give Locally….

  15. I support treating animals with respect. I eat Beef, but it comes from my fathers farm, the cows live a good life grazing in huge pastures with ponds to lay in when its hot, with ample trees for shade.

I dont feel bad eating that kind of beef.

Factory farms are the scourge of modern humanity.

  16. Vince: so because you can’t have a PETA in the Sudan, that means PETA is bad and shouldn’t be allowed to exist?
I love this argument conservatives put forth about rights we have here that you can’t have in some other country, as if that is an argument that we have too many rights or that something that we do here, that conservatives object to, isn’t appreciated enough by liberals.
Lisa…they’re not the “cause du jour”. Animal rights groups such as PETA have been around for a long time.
Animal Lover: PETA does lots of things, and encouraging veganism is just one of them. I can still support them on the good work they do, even if I’m not and don’t intend to be a vegan.

  17. Hi Alan. While we disagree, I appreciate you took the time to address my comment.

However, so many others made much more substantial objections to PETA than I have. You should have addressed their concerns. My concern was more about the emotional feeling i had.

  18. LMAO@ dustin. you have nothing else to do other than watch Alans blog? hahahahah. it’s true. conservatives have no life but to watch other peoples lives. the conservative view: less govnt, and more privacy. wow you guys are terrible at getting your base attributes across. you make liberals look more conservative than yourselves. have fun getting people to take you seriously when you call people names like “pinhead and idiot”. total comments on your blog….4 not including YOUR posts. keep up the good work on your basement blog (look away).

P.S. i love this post on your blog:

  19. If this is how the game is going to be played, then I fully expect Alan to IMMEDIATELY begin bashing the following conservatives for their continued support of THE HERITAGE FOUNDATION:

    Sean Hannity
    Mark Levin
    Rush Limbaugh
    Laura Ingraham

Without fail, whenever I catch their shows I hear them sing the praises of that right-wing, lack-of-intelligent-think-tank.

  22. Thank you, Alan! PETA is a great group and you are a great person. Thank you for helping animals.

  23. I support PETA too…. People Eating Tasty Animals. Anyone who supports the other PETA is out of their mind. They kill plants. Plants are alive too. I think you should quit eating period Alan.

  24. Everytime PETA opens their mouth a lie rolls out. They dont suggest S/N they force S/N. You will sing a different tune when the cost of your meat doubles. Yes, PETA IS MESSING with hard working American farmers. PETA is telling them to leave their farmers or they will drive them away. Farmers say “we wont leave.” But all Americans will have to pay. All the vegans will be paying double for there rice and beans. You know what; this isn’t turning in the direction that PETA was paid to have it turn in. Quess what I’m under contract so no evidence will be turned into FOX.

  25. LOL. Hillarious. Colmes is so pathetic he can’t even get liberals to read his blog.

I’m curious, Alan, what’s it like being hated by the Left and the Right? No one on the left likes you because you’re basically just a kiss-ass that Ailes hired so he wouldn’t have to allow a real Democrat on H&C who might make a fool of Hannity. And the Right hates because the Right is made of fairly stupid children who can’t recognize the simple fact that you’re basically just a monkey that it s brought on for their amusement.

  26. By the way, Alan, stop posting hate mail because it’s becoming fairly obvious that you’re making up a number of the emails for attention.

  27. If you actually care about animal rescue and helping animals, donate to your local shelter and rescue societies. They get very little or no money from HSUS or PETA. In fact, HSUS often makes money from your local shelter.

I belong to a humane society that has an operating budget of less than 25K a year and has no shelter. We depend exclusively on fostering (and we have burn-out). We cannot take healthy owner surrenders because our priority is the starving and neglected animals, paying for spay and neuter vouchers, and helping the poor keep their animals by helping with food and vet bill costs.

Your $100 that goes to PETA will never feed an animal, by all odds. Your $100 that goes to our humane society, on the other hand, will go to saving an animal’s future.

It’s very easy to be ensnared by the big-name hype of the “big organizations.” But you know, those big organizations spend enough on PR every year, that if used properly would run dozens of shelters and save thousands of animals.

I know NOBODY who has gotten an pet from PETA or HSUS. It’s impossible. They don’t adopt out animals at all, nor do they run real shelters.

On the other hand, I know plenty of people who have gotten much-cherished animals from their local shelters.

So yes, I’ll criticize your decision to support PETA while honoring your sentiment in doing so. Just google “humane societies” or “animal rescues” and your local city and you’ll come up with a lot of organizations you never heard of and who would be grateful to you for your help.

Maybe you’ll be giving enough money to keep a nice dog like me alive and fed until the right owner comes along. One thing is for sure, that ain’t happening if you donate to PETA.

  28. Excellent post Wilbrodog! I know of one shelter here in California who was CHARGED $23,000 for the HSUS to come in and do a “shelter evalution”. Glad to see all the money donated to the HSUS is going to….oh yeah….what was it going to again? Probably Wayne Pacelle’s $2000 designer suits. Their very name is an attempt at misleading the public. They are NOT the parent group for this country’s local animal shelters. What they are is a group of shysters bilking money out of little old ladies sitting at home grateful for any mail that comes into their home. I really thought it was lovely when they asked for donations to take care of Michael Vick’s Pitbulls even though they never had possession of them and actually requested that they be euthanized. One of those pitbulls is now a therapy dog here is California.

Alan, I’m well aware these whacko groups have been around for many years. The sad thing is that for some reason they have now become the cause du Jour with the DEMOCRAT PARTY. This IS an issue that will cause me to change my vote and many of my fellow Democrat dog/cat owners feel the same way. Just ask Democrat Lloyd Levine who arrogantly pushed that nasty mandatory spay/neuter bill here in California and was also proudly in the back pocket of the AR whackos. He was just voted out of office by a 3 to 1 margin. The government has absolutely NO BUSINESS coming into my home and telling me to castrate a 16 week old puppy.

    Signed,
Yes, I Support my LOCAL SHELTER, Proudly

  29. At one time PETA had a purpose and it was a good one. However that time has come and gone. Now it’s time for PETA to come back and join reality again.

  30. 7 Things You Didn’t Know About PeTA

    1. PeTA has stated repeatedly that their goal is “total animal liberation.” This means no pets, no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no fishing, no hunting, no farming, no leather, and no animal testing for lifesaving medicines.
    2. PeTA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals.
    3. PeTA funds the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine an animal-rights organization that presents itself as an unbiased source for nutritional information and has links to violent animal-rights groups called SHAC and ALF.
    4. PeTA has used their contributors tax-exempt donations to fund the North American Earth Liberation front and the Animal Liberation Front, FBI-certified domestic terrorist groups responsible for fire bombs and death threats.
    5. PeTA regularly targets kids as early as elementary school with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda. They are totally opposed to traditional farming methods.
    6. PeTA spends less than one percent of its $13 million budget actually caring for animals. PeTA kills animals.
    7. PeTA has repeatedly attacked groups like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, for conducting animal testing to find cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases.

  32. PETA, like Pat “Wannabe Mercenary” Robertson, is an embarrassment for Virginia.

  33. Way to go Alan, PETA is the best non profit out of Virginia. (my state)

They have hard hitting campaigns that make the press and get the word out. I am also a PETA member, however I am also a vegan, PETA does a lot more than promoting Veganism, the SNIP program is great.

For the people that quoted the Center for Consumer Freedom, those people are a corprate lobby. They supported the tabbaco companies, and others. One of their other campaigns currently ongoing is attacking Bill Clinton for forcing soft drink companies to give kids in school better drinks.

  34. PeTA “animal rescue” – not “terrorist extremists”??? WOW Alan, you sure showed how well informed the liberals are when it comes to the difference between vegan fascist animal rights, and true animal welfare organizations like the National Animal Interest Alliance…

  35. I am a proud, life-long Liberal. That does not mean that I support terrorists. PETA supports terrorists and PETA kills animals. I am sick that so many liberals feel that PETA is a liberal organization. PETA is simply a bunch of crazies.
