Rice, Not Obama, Responsible For Higher Oil Prices
McCain’s ridiculous new ad blames, of all people, Barack Obama for higher oil prices.

But, as it turns out, it’s Condi Rice whose comments on the heels of Saturday’s talks with Iran that are likely responsible.
Oil prices rose Monday on a threat of new sanctions against Iran and as Tropical Storm Dolly headed into the Gulf of Mexico, prompting a hurricane watch for parts of Texas and Mexico…
In her first public comments since Saturday’s meeting in Switzerland, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accused Iran of not being serious at the talks despite the presence of a senior U.S. diplomat, and warned it might soon face new sanctions.
Conservatives were giddy last week with the claim that Bush brought down oil prices by lifting a drilling ban. Will they equally acknowledge that statements by the Secretary of State can also have an affect?

“Don’t hope for more energy, vote for it”? Oh, please. McCain is still missing the mark. I support drilling, but we need to drill AND develop alternate fuels.
I’ve just started reading AMERICAN THEOCRACY by Kevin Phillips. The first section of the book (hundreds of pages) deals with the history of American oil. We’ve been addicted to oil for centuries, beginning with the use of sperm whales. That oil was used for lamps, perfume, lipstick… Phillips has a whole list of stuff in the book. The big car companies later encouraged our additiction to petroleum in the early 20th century. They did this PURPOSEFULLY, in order to sell their cars. Cheap fuel meant more cars on the road. Americans have owned more cars and used more fuel than any other country for decades.
Alan, I don’t know if you’ve ever had Phillips on but you should consider it.

And NO, Bush will not acknowledge that his administrations dealings with Iran can impact oil prices, bc that would mean acknowledging that speculators are impacting prices, which would mean he would have to do something about it. Bush is a one issue man. If it’s not the Iraq War, he doesn’t know it exists.

McCain’s been trying to feed us this crap for a while, and nobody’s buying it except his base.

We’ve been addicted to oil for centuries
I love statements like these.
Does the book say how long we’ve been addicted to oxygen?

Yes we are owned by the oil companies. In 1982 gm had a car that got 102 miles pg. called the Saturn and a elect car they made for calf. they crush them all and sold the battier rights to exxon mobile and they gave the inventor of the battery a seas and desist order that made it against the law for him to talk about it. I watch this on the discovery channel? So when gas is 10 dollars a gallon i will say great we deserve it

The idea of the car getting 100mpg? belongs with bigfoot and the loch ness monster
And back on the subject of the sperm whale, they also made lipstick, perfume? toothpaste, nasal decongestant, throat losenges, hair gel, lotion, coating for tongue depressors and body soap.

1908 Ford Model T: 14-18 mpg.
2008 Hummer: 14-18 mpg.
Wow, that’s some progress. Imagine the mileage we could be getting in ANOTHER hundred years.

Vince P,
In the late 60’s, or early 70’s, Chrysler unveiled a car that ran on alcohol and was powered by a turbine engine. Sales (demand) were low so it was scrapped. I have’nt heard a single liberal within this blog purchasing an electric car, or a hybrid. Just whining, and complaining. CheryllCarol is the least educated in the bunch as you can witness by her latest “early 20th century conspiracy theory”. If it was’nt for Mr. Ford and the oil companies she would’nt look, or smell half as good as she does today. She’d be walking or riding a horse (no air conditioning) to her destinations and smelling like a linebacker after a game, and a horse by the time she reached them. Yet, she whines and complains, and comes up with rediculous “conspiracy theories”. If she decided to trade in her car and take a chance on an elctric, or hybrid for transportation I might cut her some slack. However, once she experienced the drawbacks in owning one of these cars, we would be bombarded with more of her nonsence.

“Just whining, and complaining…”
Well, maybe you think blogs are all about displaying your immeasurably vast erudition to eager audiences of neophytes, but I suspect the truth is that we’re all here to bitch, and so are you.

RC,
I don’t “bitch”. I respond to them.
