Conservatives Thrilled With Howard Stern Because He Won’t Vote Democratic
These are the same conservatives who’ve spent years denouncing him for his brand of “shock” radio, but now all is forgiven, because Stern has announced he’ll never vote for a Democrat again. His stated reason is because the Sirius/XM merger is being held up by Democrats at the FCC. Business and Media has the audio.
“The fact that these Democrats on the FCC are communists,” Stern said. “They’re for communism. They don’t want to see companies – this is gangsterism. I said, ‘This is crazy.’”

After denouncing him for years, it’s so nice to see them suddenly take him so seriously.

I thought monopolies were illegal. I guess satellite radio and utility companies are okay…
July 25th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
monopolies in and of themselves are not illegal.
For one, most monopolies can only exist because a government establishes one.
Some of the characteristics of an illegal monopoly is when the company engages in anticompetitive behaviors as well as it having some sort of ability to keep competitors from entering its market.
Satellite radio has yet to prove its business model, therefore it may not even make economic sense to have such a thing. THe fact that XM and S had to merge because neither could cover its costs is a hint of that.
A bad market like that wont attract competitors. There is nothing illegal about being the sole company in a market doomed to failure.

Randy Pausch has passed away.

How is sat radio a monopoly? For playing music in my car I have numerous options. I have XM, AM, FM, iPod, cassette, and CD. I’m not forced to listen to XM and I choose to subscribe.
July 25th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
They change their minds alot:
“Clear Channel and some of its executives have donated over $200,000 to the United States Republican Party|Republican Party, Stern claims the company was trying to penalize him for his harsh criticisms of President of the United States|President George W. Bush [4].
Although Stern was one of the few celebrities who initially publicly supported Bush sending U.S. troops into Iraq at the time, Stern changed his mind in 2004 and turned against Bush, citing as his main reasons both the debacle that he and many others believed Iraq had become, and Bush’s personal ties to Clear Channel Communications, the media giant who had just “indefinitely suspended” him. Stern sarcastically noted the “odd coincidence” that he was suspended literally within weeks of having publicly denounced Bush. Additionally, he endorsed John Kerry in the U.S. presidential election, 2004|2004 U.S. presidential campaign, and urged his listeners to vote for him. “
July 25th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
I’m sure they just love the fact that he called Democrats “communists” and “gangsters”.
July 25th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
Randy Pausch was an amazing benefit to his family and society in his last year. Very inspirational. It’s sad that he’s gone, but I’m very glad that he chose to leave us the message that he did before he left.
July 25th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Stern is committed to turning away from the Zionist repressive regime and exposing the communist fraud. Finally a Jew who realizes what these demons are about. End the threat to freedom and truth.
July 25th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Whatever this Stern guy says is worthless, the fact he refuses to vote democrat? does not change who he is.
Liberal lefties would embrace a foe that suddenly turned and announced support, but the liberals dont even claim to hold to honesty, ethics and values because those are for suckers.
July 25th, 2008 at 2:32 pm
Bradley: damn right.
July 25th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Bradley: that reminds me of one of my favorite Ann Coulter quotes:
“We’ve finally given liberals a war against fundamentalism, and they don’t want to fight it. They would, except it would put them on the same side as the United States.”
July 25th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
If they are “Liberal lefties”, are you “Conservative righties”?
Or will you just say,
” OF COURSE NOT, YOU IDIOT! WE ARE THE THE MODERATE CONSERVATIVES! WE ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, AND YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!!”
July 25th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Hey Vince thats a good one. When Ann talks about that subject she is usually right on.
And all we would have to do is convince liberals that muslim terrorists want to outlaw abortion? then they would hate them! but then the rule you quote might kick in, they would oppose the terrorists but that would put them on the side of the USA, how antithetical!
Oldlefty, thats kind of correct but Id tend to label them the extreme fringe far right wing kookservatives. Not the mainstream Conservative and not the Republican. an extremist on either side is still one.
July 25th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
For someone who hates the phrase “you liberals” being applied to you, you always seem to paint conservatives with an awfully broad brush. Stern’s said lots of things that economic conservatives and libertarian conservatives like for a long time. Aside from that, are you familiar with the parable of the prodigal son?
July 25th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Howard Stern Howard Stern Baba-Booey Baba-Booey!
July 25th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Fifteen minutes later Stern also said that he didn’t mean it and that it was only frustration over the merger issue talking.
Beyond this single issue these far-right partisans won’t be quoting anything else that Stern has had to say about Republicans.
And Stern is no liberal as he has publicly endorsed all kinds of Republicans. Giuliani. Pataki. Whitman. D’Amato. To name a few.
July 25th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
And all we would have to do is convince liberals that muslim terrorists want to outlaw abortion?
This might be the only way to get them to notice.
After all they aparently don’t care when they take their daughters, and get a dirty shard of glass and procede to saw off all the external parts of a woman’s genitals… take some cord and then sew it up , and then bound her legs together and keep her immobile for weeks so she can heal.
Of course I’m a bigot for being against that. And I’m being Anti-Muslim.
July 25th, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Since the XM/Sirius merger seems to be motoring right along though govenment channels, Stern’s only concern must be that it’s not moving along fast enough for his liking.
Too bad, Howie.
I love XM. I hope Sirius doesn’t mess it all up. The last thing I want to do is go back to terrestrial radio. I remember crossing South Dakota and trying to find even ONE radio station playing something other than the local high school basketball game. Or working in Idaho and only being able to pick up one radio station. And that one stupid radio station had a song library of only 12 songs, over and over and over again. Until 11:00pm when they played ocean surf sounds until morning.
XM, forever!!!!
July 25th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Stern is committed to turning away from the repressive “Jewish baker conspiracy” and exposing their communist fraud. Finally a Jew who realizes what these Jewish bakers are about. End the threat to freedom and truth. Stop the threat of unleavened breads!!!

Well I’m glad to the Rightists embracing a real family values kind of guy.
July 25th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I have not seen anything to suggest that conservatives are taking Howard Stern seriously on any subject. I guess I must have missed that.
July 25th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Vince should demand that his government stop doing business with them, and making them so rich.
I’m glad that an I’m anti right wing ,anything for a buck, Marxist, leftist lune who doesn’t have to suck up to the dregs of the world and move my company to Dubai, just to bring in that sweet Muslim fundamentalist money.
July 25th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
I never understood the popularity of Howard, once his fans were past puberty. Of course, I guess his audience is always regenerating itself.
XM: channels 14 (bluegrass), 15 (folk), 122 (CNN), 127 (CNBC), 133 (public radio), 164 (old time radio), and 168 (FOX, but only for Colmes).
July 25th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
Lord Byron AKA howard stern, anyone other then a crack whore comming from his lips only means he is being paid for the endorsement & I dont blame xm for staying away from this guy…he is bad news.
July 25th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Stern still deserves to be ignored until he learns some taste. His rejection of liberal fascism is a notable step on the road to recovery.

Howard Stern is the King of All Media and this includes Satellite Radio. How dare he get angry at the FCC and the Democrats for holding up the merger of the only two satellite premium radio stations on earth? Making this one big premium station is a crime. You have no competition and you have a monopoly on freedom of speech. Why should America be forced to pay 7-11 prices to hear the best talk? We should have created a 24/7 Kiddie Channel to protect the children from America if this is their parents choice. Instead, we told the adults that they have to pay extra to hear adults talk. Kids don’t tell me what to watch or listen to. Howard Stern made a butt load of money from this monopoly. How much is too much? This merger would be a crime if the FCC doesn’t loosen it’s tight reigns on the freedom of speech on Earth. If we could talk like adults on Earth, Satellite Radio couldn’t compete. We pay a premium to protect the kids? That’s BS! Give the kids the special channel as the premium and see what these pansies turn out to be?
July 26th, 2008 at 3:10 am
I think Howard Stern has ALWAYS been mostly concerned about Howard Stern.
How is the public EVER served better by bigger monopolies and fewer choices?
July 26th, 2008 at 9:01 am
How is the public served if both business go out of business because the market cannot support it.
July 26th, 2008 at 9:29 am
The fact is that there is a specific market of people who will purchase satellite radio. That market is small (total about 18 subs last I heard). The general public doesn’t want to pay for radio, especially when they can put in MP3 players and hear their favorite music and podcasts. The only way satellite radio can survive is to merge into one front. It’s the same reason The WB and UPN formed to become The CW. And based on that, even after a merger, results can be mixed.
And as an XM guy, if they don’t mess with XM Comedy 150, Laugh Attack 153 Suite 62, and BPM 81, I’m good with whatever else happens. There are a lot of the same channels on both systems now.
Will be funny to see what happens when Stern and Opie and Anthony are on the same product at the same time essentially.
Long live the memory of XM!
