Should We Believe it?

July 25th, 2008, 3:35 PM EDT

Even if John Edwards was confronted by reporters from the Enquirer at a Los Angeles hotel; even if “his face turned totally white” when he saw reporters; even if this part of the story is confirmed by Fox News; even if a woman named Rielle Hunter was at the same hotel with her baby; do we jump to the conclusion that Edwards is having an affair?

The Beverly Hilton Hotel guard said he encountered a shaken and ashen-faced Edwards – whom he did not immediately recognize – in a hotel men’s room early Tuesday morning in a literal tug-of-war with reporters on the other side of the door.

The Enquirer says it has videotape of Hunter entering a hotel room and Edwards exiting the same room, but the publication has declined requests to release any visual evidence.

Hunter has said the father of her child is former Edwards staffer Andrew Young, who also say he is the child’s father.

To be fair, the Enquirer has broken stories in the past.  And maybe there are others the tabloids have broken than need further exploration by the so-called mainstream media.

  1. Anything to distract the nation from the news about Hussein Obama!

Hillary and Bat boy? Id like to see more proof

    who is John Edwards?

  2. Nosferatu never lies, but in his coffin. I’d stake my after life on it.

  3. LOL. Hillary and Bat Boy.

I think that Edwards behavior was too suspicious for him to have been there for a purely innocent reason. I mean honestly, what was the point of running away from the press, rather than just pushing your way through them and getting into your car? Running away means that you don’t want to be caught doing something. This whole thing is really suspicious.

  4. Does anyone care about the community college shooting in AZ that wounded 3 people? AZ has open carry laws, but I guess no one was packin’. Remember the lady from OpenCarry.org that Alan had on this week? I wonder what informed commentary she could give us about this situation.

  5. maybe it was the open carry law that contributed to the shooting.

  6. Honestly, no, I’m not really interested in the AZ shooting.

  7. To paraphrase Alan Comes: Even if Larry Craig was confronted by police officers at a Minneapolis airport; even if “his face turned totally white” when he saw reporters; even if this part of the story is confirmed by Fox News; do we jump to the conclusion that Craig was after a homosexual affair?

  8. “Hillary to Wed Batboy”?

So, the Enquirer is another Murdoch rag?

But if the Enquirer is right about this Edwards thing, they must also have been correct when they declared that Bush was back on the bottle? When will FOX News confirm the latter story?

    Waiting ………. waiting ……….

  10. Wait, lemme check my reference works on Nostradamus.

  12. Two new posts, plus, in the one below them, there is Jen’s need to point out to me some ambiguous fallacy I made. Acknowledge, I do, that the joke stinks, but it’s very adorable to have some logical error kind of pointed out to me. Bless you, Jen.

  13. I’m absolutely biased on this story. I love John and Elizabeth Edwards and I’m not a fan of cancer. I lost my Mother and Father to cancer. I held their hands and cleaned up after them during the chemo from both ends. When a relationship is stricken with illness, it changes what was normal. It’s a process that we all should endure one day if we are lucky. To love someone unconditionally is the greatest sacrifice anyone can make. Unconditional love is a tabliod feast for our political enemies. How do we learn to let go and how much is too much? Some things are none of our business. I love Elizabeth and John period!

  14. John Edwards apparently loves Elizabeth with the same amount of zeal that Bill Clinton loves hillary.

  15. Until I see actual photos of this incident, I will not believe it. Having the only source be the tabloid rag The Enquirer makes me very suspicious. This tabloid has been sued in the past for false stories.

I hope Obama picks Edwards as his running mate. He has been a great champion against poverty.

  16. obama/edwards!!! please, please, please.
    (or obama/ron paul…)

  17. Allison makes a good point. Why haven’t the pics been released yet? Edwards supposedly had cameras being shoved in his face. I can’t imaging a tabloid- or any media outlet- holding those back.

  18. Vince,

Oh, I have a better example of a loving husband’s affection towards his wife ~ good ole’ Newt Gingrich!

Not only does he have some whore on the sideline; but to add insult to injury ~ “conservative
valued”, “Christian” Newt served divorce papers to his wife’s hospital bed while she was recovering from cancer surgery.

What a nice guy! Boy, it doesn’t get much lower than that.

  19. Well, on the scale of things I’d have to say that JFK is still unmatched for having the affair which almost every male on the planet wishes he could’ve been there, doing that.

  21. And don’t forget, Danielle, that good ol’ Newt led the impeachment brigade on Clinton for having consentual sex while in office. How ironic that Gingrich was also cheating on his wife at the same time.

  22. TDro ~

Oh I know I love it. In general, Americans are usually pretty forgiving people. But nobody likes a hypercrite.

I still get stuck on the whole “serving the wife divorce papers as she lay in a hospital bed fighting cancer” thing. I am typically not a judgmental person; but what low-life, sum-bag of a person does something like that to another human being (particularly the mother of his children)?

To me it doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican; what a horrible lack of character. But Sean Hannity who professes to be such a “family man” seems to love the guy. Personally,I wouldn’t be able to even look at that man let alone speak cordially to him. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman, but I just can’t get past something like that.

  23. Getting a hummer while his children were nearby is pretty low, even for the self righteous Newt.
