McCain Denies He Used The Word “Timetable” And Then Uses It Again

July 27th, 2008, 11:29 AM EDT

John McCain told George Stephanopoulous he never said that 16 months is “a pretty good timetable” in spite of the fact that he said just that to Wolf Blitzer two days ago.

BLITZER: So why do you think he said that 16 months is basically a pretty good timetable?

McCAIN: He said it’s a pretty good timetable based on conditions on the ground. I think it’s a pretty good timetable, as we should – or horizons for withdrawal. But they have to be based on conditions on the ground.

Sunday McCain said, “I didn’t use the word timetable.”  Then he used it again.

STEPHANOPOULOS: You shouldn’t have used the word timetable.

MCCAIN: I didn’t use the word timetable. That I did – if I did…

STEPHANOPOULOS: Well, it’s a pretty good timetable.

MCCAIN: Oh, well, look. Anything is a good timetable that is dictated by conditions on the ground. Anything is good.

  1. Networks Much Tougher On Obama Than McCain

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-onthemedia27-2008jul27,0,2066363,full.story

  2. This is insane as he is setting himself up to double back on his words later on as well as lying about the U.S. being greeted as liberators. He should be given some kind of award for Disingenuousness.

  3. Although I fear Bush might get upset

  4. What is it with Bush and McCain? There is something called VIDEOTAPE! McCain has taken up Obama’s plan for Iraq and still accuses him of flip-flopping. Why is the media not covering this more? McCain has changed so many positions it’s laughable.

The McCain campaign might be the most pathetic Presidential Campaign in history. They accuse Obama of not going overseas. He does and they call it a trip for political gain. They could have taken advantage of Obama being out of the country. McCain could have spent the week in a battleground state and talked about the economy. Instead he makes ANOTHER couple missteps, one in front of the freakin’ CHEESE aisle!

Now he uses the word timetable and then says no he didn’t. He tries to say there was more than one surge as if everyone in the country had it wrong but him. This is so outrageous, it’s hard to believe! This man is absolutely nuts! When the hell is the first debate? McCain will look crazy as hell in these debates. VIDEOTAPE! IT’S CALLED VIDEOTAPE!

Sorry for the rant, but this shit is getting crazy and the mainstream media keeps letting things slide. At least Alan is trying to do his part.

Alright I’m done. I gotta give Vinnie Pee a ride to his mosque so he can worship…

  5. (must be weird, having a guy with 3 (or is it 4) heads in your car)

  6. Actually, FuryUs, you should rant more often. You voice my own thoughts very well.

  7. Reminds me of the Lewis Black routine where he talks about Rumsfeld appearing on CNN and Blitzer says how come you said X? And Rumsfeld’s answer is “No I didn’t.” And Blitzer says “We’ve got it on videotape.” And they play the tape. And Rumsfeld says, “Well you didn’t know what I meant.”

We know what they have and we know where it is. Mission accomplished. Enduring bases. The surge. Timetables. Horizons. And lets declare the entire world to be the battlefield for the war on terror so our glorious leader can do anything, anywhere, any time he wants, without regard for the law, the constitution, international treaties or the ingredients listed on a box of Fruit Loops.

Let’s rename the country Freedonia, or maybe Godland, or Jesusville, and then we can appoint Dick Cheney our Grand Imperial Master of International Security and All Things Loyal and Good.

And let’s outlaw all dictionaries, because, in the end, they just get in the way of a good PR campaign.

  8. They just lie, and lie, and lie, and nobody says,” you know, you’re just lying.”
it’s so frustrating to hear people then debate their lies as though there’s any validity to them at all.

  9. Hey FuRyUs: maybe you can drop Vinnie off at the insane asylum on your way back. He’s in desperate need of more shock treatments.

  10. Yeah Sky, the media not calling McCain out is insane. You hear Repubes on TV saying that McCain ALWAYS said that he would go on conditions on the ground. Obama has been saying this for years! And yet they are still trying to paint Obama as flip-flopping when he said that he would REFINE his position based on conditions. The McCain camp jumped all over it and the media went along with them. Yet the media lets these McCain LIES stand. So much for the so called liberal media…

  11. TDro, I can almost predict what Vince will say:

You liberals are so blah, blah, blah. Followed by about 7 or 8 paragraphs of attacks against muslims. He is getting so easy to predict. Oh and lets not forget all the misspellings. Hard to take such hateful rants when he has the education of a toddler. Also, as he claims he is not a bigot. Although all he does is attack everyone in a religion as evil. Stupid jackass. Or like he would spell it: Stoopid jackace.

  12. President Obama will have a large majority in both houses to fix the mess that this idiot of an administration has made. The Republicans will be well in the background braying like asses as usual, but they won’t have the power to do anything. I can’t wait. I CAN’T WAIT!

    ps
It’s funny how liberals blah blah blah
It’s interesting how liberals blah blah blah
You liberals are so blah blah blah

  13. LOL. Fury, keep up the good work!

  14. Vinne p went off on Sky in another post for no reason. It was absurd! I thought he had an emotional problem, but Conservative and Bradley act the same way. Maybe it’s contagious among conservatives.

  15. Vinnie Pee is so annoying because he attacks or insults everyone on this blog. Then when you respond he gets offended. Only he and the “conservative” are allowed their views. I don’t get it. I don’t go on conservative blogs, because conservatives disgust me. Yet they have to make themselves better by constantly attacking. Idiots…

  16. Please don’t ask me to think or make sense of this.

  17. *think of.

I don’t know what he’s saying. Which way is up? Nevemind, it’s green. Got it.

  18. Don’t forget that he’s gratuitously attacking Cheryl every chance he gets.

He actually freaked out on me for a reason: I raised the question as to whether his “conversations” with ‘the conservative”, “bradley” et al might just be a monologue…
Of course he couldn’t keep himself from being racist and insulting.
    Whatever. I ignore trolls.

  19. But what about ogres like me?

    Sanctuareeeeee

  20. ah, ogres like you I find mysterious and darkly alluring.
    ;)

  21. Undead better describes my appearance.

  22. yeeeecccchhh.
Wait, like a vampire, or like a zombie?

  23. Since McCain did this at the end of the week and over the weekend, maybe it will start building. The fact that he can agree with Obama and change some keywords around isn’t going to last for long. I hope. Time Horizon instead of timetable isn’t fooling anyone. I’m wondering when all these mistakes will catch up with McCain…

  24. building in what way?

  25. Zombie, of course.

  26. All his lies and mistakes. Maybe, just maybe his bullshit will catch up to him. This 16 month timetable is a disgrace. He ridiculed Obama for his plan that he is now STEALING for his own. This added with every other thing he has done has to catch up (ketsup?).

The Repubes have been attacking Obama on his so called lack of understanding of foreign policy. Obama said we should talk to Iran. They said he was appeasing. Dubya, with his complete lack of morals, said it in front of the Kenneset. Couple of months go by, and we’re now starting talks with Iran. The Obama plan for Iraq was made fun of. The government of Iraq agrees with it. Now so do Dubya and McCain.

Dubya is showing how little regard he has for anyone, by letting McCain dig himself in deeper by going along with these things.

If Obama is so ignorant, how is it that everything he predicted is now becoming true? The Repubs are scrambling and they don’t know what to do except fabricate stories and attack Michelle over and over and over for one goddam slip-up which she has explained, but they don’t care. You can’t measure patriotism. It’s an abstract thing and this whole I’m more patriotic than you thing is pathetic.

  27. Let’s not forget Support the Troops.

If we hate this stupid goddam war, we aren’t supporting the troops. How is it not supporting them if we want them back home with their families? And yet the same party that started this, votes against helping the troops when they get back. And if their wounded, they get a cut in pay for not finishing their tour. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPORTING THE TROOPS!

  28. Well, I admit that I lean more toward the general conservative definition of support for troops. That said, I also think the troops can speak for themselves, but, by default, a soldier will, I belive, want to finish his mission; that’s human nature. Ultimately, the best interest of the nation comes before the personal pride of our soldiers, with no intended disrespect to them. Even if they want to finish the mission, that’s not a good argument for them to stay.

  29. And no, I do not think of people who disagree with me as unpatriotic. Defining what support for the troops is and what patriotism is are different issues. The former is not a litmus for the latter.

  30. “And yet the same party that started this, votes against helping the troops when they get back. And if their wounded, they get a cut in pay for not finishing their tour. HOW THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPORTING THE TROOPS!”

It isn’t. I read your post a bit fast, and was thinking of a different premise, mostly the first part. I agree with you.

For lack of a better example, it’s basically the baseball analogy where you don’t want to be pulled out when you’re down by 3 runs in the bottom of the 9nth and you’re last at bat, or whatever. The soldier in the situation of war would probably see himself in a like position. Nevertheless, I still say he has to be ignored for the greater good of the nation.

  31. All I’m saying is that the Iraq War is the FIRST war this country has started, and it was obviously a mistake. I’ve got nothing against the troops. I’m just sick of being attacked for wanting the stupid war over…

  32. The way I see it, and I felt this way after his speech on race, even if they steal the election again (don’t put it past them), Obama is already positively affecting the world, and America’s national policy.
Even if, God forbid, something happens to him, still, look at what he’s done so far.
Yes, they’re idiots for not giving him credit, and putting him down.but thank god they are using his ideas.

  33. OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!

  34. David Duke, this isn’t you is it?

  35. Shark Week on Discovery Channel starts today people! Where’s the excitement?

  36. Never been that into it.

  37. How come out of 300 million Americans, we feel there only two viable people qualified to run this country?

Are we all just too inept to find a qualified candidate?

  38. I think McCain suffers from “delusions of grandeur!” At any rate, he is a despicable human being, and the Republicans should be so embarrassed by him,if they weren’t so despicable themselves….

  39. If Alzheimer’s wasn’t such a tragic disease, I’d joke about McCain possibly suffering from it.
