Who cares? They both suck the big ones. Power equals money, money equals power and WE THE PEONS, oops, I mean WE THE PEOPLE are getting the shaft.

It’s not the death tax, it’s the inheritance tax and I don’t really care much if Paris Hilton gets 600 million or 400 million. I do know who gets to make up the difference though. I think we should pay as we go, not borrow and spend as we’ve been doing
July 31st, 2008 at 1:51 pm
Republicans: spend, spend, spend, borrow, borrow, borrow.
Democrats: whatever, it has to be an improvement.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:11 pm
Now Johnny, compare the national debt that each of those tax plans ends up with.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:18 pm
LV- lol
RC- lol
Budda said-
“I think we should pay as we go, not borrow and spend as we’ve been doing”
I agree, Budda. And we’ve got countries like China holding our debt…
July 31st, 2008 at 2:49 pm
this is a seriously skewed poll

RC, remember we’re having it bad .. we had it bad with the republican leadership of congress and we have it bad with democratic leadership. Clintons first term was good for us, but by his 2nd term the fiscal policies of the Regan administration started to hit us. Bush made it sooooo much worse, he has no sense whatsoever for budget or the people that surround and advise him. This has been decades in the making. It’s going to take a long time to come out of it. It’s OUR responsibility to stay on their asses and force them to do the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.
I’m sorry I keep coming back to this, but it’s our fault. They kept us so busy working to buy the toys Communist China offered that now we can’t get our heads above the water. We have to pay attention.
I was watching C-SPAN this morning on the senate fighting over the energy policy they can’t cooperate on. Tug of war and we are the rope or the mud, however you’d like to look at it.

Hi Cheryl, long time!
July 31st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I have one question that really needs answered. Is anyone out there interested in our National Security. One of the main things we need for this (other than our military and secure borders) is oil and energy independence. I feel with out the independence the other 2 are not worth diddly.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:05 pm
The worst harm has to come to conservatives and neocons, regardless of which side of the ideological and political spectrum is most guilty of voting against the troops self interest, as veterans and active military groups argue. This is because it is the right wing which most often casts aspersions on others for alleged failure to support the troops, and attempts to portray itself as the most pro troop and, thereby, patriotic (two matters which I believe to be improper conflations). On a philosophical level, I tend to side with the right on the matter of support during conflicts, but I also recognize the hypocrisy of not given the troops their earned considerations after they return home. Not to be wholly dismissive of financial concerns, but once you set yourself into a sanctimonious position, considerations of cost have less meaning.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Donna, I don’t think the pols are thinking about it. I keep hearing from Wash DC, tap the strategic oil reserves. We need that for our military vehicles should OPEC cut us off. It’s only 3 days worth of oil for our country anyway! And we are handing more and more money over to our enemies for oil that they then use to fund militias that kill our troops and destroy our economy.
WFG, if you’re making reference to the new GI Bill that got bashed it’s because, as typical of the politicians, they filled the bill with a lot of bullshit that had nothing to do with GIs!
Aside from putting the fear of god in them by showing them all they can lose their jobs and leave all the cushy perks behind, I don’t know of any other peaceful way to force change.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:23 pm
Not specifically, but that would exemplify my point well.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:27 pm
But I’m not saying a vote against it is without merit, just that there are consequences to such a vote, especially for the right.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Hey LV. I’ve got a lot going on over here, and I needed a break from certain commenters and their comments.
My best friend is looking at buying a house here in VA that’s currently being rented out to someone. The renter was under one of those agreements I was telling you about, where once a buyer is found they receive notice that they have to move. Hopefully we’ll all be together on the blog Monday night, and we can update each other on things.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:36 pm
What surprise. Being for this war and against a GI Bill is an affront to out military. But yet somehow McCain is “the military’s choice candidate” even though the facts say otherwise.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:38 pm
WFG-what I’d like to see them stop is putting different issues into one bill. Reids Omnibus bill is a perfect example. Several very good issues slapped in there with bullshit issues that we as American citizens shouldn’t support or pay for. So it gets knocked down and one side blames the other side for post natal depression, paralyzed people not getting any help. It’s crap that needs to stop.
About that, what I really liked is how Reid blamed Coburn for it not passing and Coburn tells everyone how many of those medical issues he sponsored or co-sponsored. It was the other pork barrel shit he was against.
Truely, I’m not for or against either major party, I’m for us/me and they are against us/me and I’m sick of it. That’s why they hear from me every day. When they do the bidding of WE THE PEOPLE, or if I’m away from my computer/phone/post office, they won’t hear from me.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:44 pm
sure I will form a coalition of all Republicans who think like me and call it Veterans for political honesty. then we can rate John McCain 100% and Hussein Obama as 0%
see? it has the word “veterans” in there so it must be bipartisan and perfectly fair
July 31st, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Iguess if you don’t work and you don’t pay taxes, you don’t care who does…. Fair assumption?
July 31st, 2008 at 5:18 pm
An ideal approach is to attempt to analyze what is best for me personally; then ascess what are the nation’s needs which would help me meet my goals. So national security is high on the list (but rationally directed at real enemies and paid for with current resources and a broad national effort-i.e declared war, perhaps reistated draft, mobilization etc). Any society worth it’s salt needs to take care of its poor and dis-advantaged. It must assure availability of health care; jobs growth at rational wages, a well educated populace; support for infrastructure…bridges, roads etc. One adds this up and then taxes in a fair plan the level of which is determined by the “n” total. Don’t forget money to pay back the debt incurred by spending what we don’t have. So polls of desirable tax rates are very relative. A barely getting by worker really is little interested in the inheritance tax except that without one, he may not get services he needs to self improve his status. The really wealthy likely will have to share a greater % of that wealth to benefit others, but I don’t see any being taxed to the beggar status.
July 31st, 2008 at 5:53 pm
“…oil and energy independence…”
Oil is the problem. Not the solution. And as long as we run this country on oil we’ll never be energy independent.
July 31st, 2008 at 6:40 pm
But we need oil to carry us over the bridge while the people who have the minds for those things come up with viable alternatives. Remember we use oil for everything, plastics, road building and repair, a lot of cosmetics and personal care items. We need to have our own supply, maybe not to fuel vehicles, but definately to be able to supply ourselves.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:50 pm
… I’m pretty sure our family doesn’t consume any oil other than flax and olive…
Maybe through electricity and gas, though… but that could be changed pretty quickly.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Ah Sky, it would be hard to escape the by products in todays world, maybe the Amish get by without it:

no plastic, no cosmetics, no car…. we’re doing pretty good. If only we had solar panels…
July 31st, 2008 at 8:36 pm
Wow, no plastic? What are you posting to this board on?
July 31st, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Oh, and you love your bike you say on another thread…..tires? rubber is another by product.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:44 pm
… a computer that doesn’t belong to me….
ouch, got me with the rubber tires… but they were used…
we’re not buying new stuff, as much as possible. Used food is pretty crappy though :)
July 31st, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Hahaha good one on the used food

Hell in a country where pot smokers serve mandatory sentences an child molesters and rapist even murders get off or out of prison in very little time what else could we expect. The oil companys & polititians go hand in hand, and as for who to vote for, lol, there been no canidate worth voting for in years, we are in trouble no matter which way we go this time. Im flat amazed how many say theyre voting for OBAMA, this scares me to death, after ”911 WE WILL NEVER FORGET” my fellow Americans you have forgotten & Obama will be the death of us all, as a society with any morales, what small amount we do have. He has no clue how to run a country making McCain the only choice in 08
July 31st, 2008 at 10:25 pm
what? you support legalizing pot and not Obama??? dude, get your head together.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:28 pm
biggdogg, people have forgotten a lot of things now that it’s a challenge to get to work and feed the family. The political situation we’re in is sad but a lot of it is our fault.
July 31st, 2008 at 10:28 pm
Where do you get your information from, Biggdogg? What makes you think Barack Obama will be the death of us all? We survived the Bush/Cheney regime (so far). I think Obama will be a cake walk.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Don’t say that TDro. We still have 6 months left for him to totally destroy the country. He’s still working on NAFTA
July 31st, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Point of Order:
The Disabled American Veterans
and the Disabled Veterans of America
are two different groups, though they
both help and support veterans.
August 1st, 2008 at 4:41 pm
You’re right, LV. January 20th can’t come soon enough for me. Just one thing scares me. What if Bush decides we “need him” and decides to appoint himself dictator?
It could happen. Unfortunately we have many spineless democrats who are afraid to disagree with Bush. Not only that, but most on the supreme court are Bush sympathizers
August 2nd, 2008 at 12:53 am
I thought rubber comes from trees?
democrats and liberals must be getting a check for $$$ from the Saudi govt and the terrorists for opposing oil drilling…
Thank you liberals! for your hard work to keep us filthy rich so Arabs can funnel the cash into terrorism and the spread of a violent murderous religion.
Just keep opposing any drilling for oil and America’s economy will crumble
August 3rd, 2008 at 1:36 am
WE NEED TO FORGET ABOUT OIL!
WHAT ABOUT THAT DO YOU REPUBLICANS NOT UNDERSTAND!
WE NEEDED TO FORGET ABOUT IT 20 YEARS AGO!
August 3rd, 2008 at 2:36 am
Until the Unicorn Energy can be used by my car, forgettign about oil isn’t something that I’m about to do.
What’s the logic? Ignore the resource that the entire modern world revolves around because.. why exactly?
I have an idea… how about the Anti-American Democrat Politboro in control of Congress remove the restrictions and let those of us who want to be able to eat and go to work do so…. then for people who want to pretend there is no oil.. can try to ride magic solar panels on the highway.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:22 am
You’ve got 68 million acres of oil leases you can drill on TODAY.
You’ve got hundreds of caped oil wells that oil companies could make money on at $25 a barrel, that can be opend TODAY.
There’s more oil OUTSIDE ANWR than inside that oil companies could be drilling on TODAY!
Why do you still need more leases?
Why are the oil companies opposed to ‘use it or lose it’ on those ‘usless’ leases?
August 3rd, 2008 at 8:18 pm
To clarify:
Many wells were caped off because the oil companies say they couldn’t make money pumping that oil at $25 a barrel.
Oil is now ~$135 a barrel and the wells are still caped.
