Could This Be The True Reason Trent Lott Resigned From The Senate?

August 3rd, 2008, 9:22 AM EDT

After fighitng his way back from the Strom Thurmond controversy, Mississippi Senator Trent Lott suddenly and inexplicably resigned from the Senate at the end of last year.   It seemed odd that he would do so, especially after weathering the Thurmond storm.

Now, Lott is being accused of urging witnesses to give false information in a Hurricane Katrina lawsuit. Jim Robie, an attorney for State Farm Insurance, is accusing Lott’s brother-in-law, attorney Richard Scruggs, of being part of a scheme claiming that State Farm improperly handled Huricane Katrina claims and then tried covering it up.

State Farm, according to its attorney Jim Robie, wants to know the former Mississippi senator’s involvement, including whether he urged witnesses to give false information.

Robie implicated Lott during a deposition last week with convicted attorney Zach Scruggs, Richard’s son. Both Richard and Zach are headed to federal prison after pleading guilty to charges related to trying to bribe a judge in a different case.

Zach Scruggs, also represented Lott’s claim against State Farm after his Mississippi home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

Robie is saying that Lott initiated contact with people involved in the case, which would be unprecedented for a US senator.

“Clearly, the record couldn’t be more plain that Sen. Lott and his associates were talking to people that were key advisers to Mr. Scruggs, paid consultants and those who were creating an illusion that simply doesn’t have any basic fact,” Robie told Legal Newsline on Thursday.

Think Progress has a New Yorker quote further implicating Lott:

Charles Chamness, the C.E.O. of a national insurance trade association, has claimed that Lott had threatened him, in a telephone call, with “bringing down State Farm and the industry.” Lott also co-sponsored a proposal to strip the insurance industry of an antitrust exemption that had been in place since the nineteen-forties.

  1. Lott doesn’t need to worry. I’m sure we’ll get another executive privilege…

  2. I’m shocked!

    HARRUMPH!!!

  3. The South never wanted to be part of America anyway, so why expect them to behave like law-abiding Americans.

  8. well aren’t you snitty.

  9. Trent Lot IS a piece of S#IT !!
PhaQ Trent you Crooked PRICK !!!!
    I hpoe you S#IT your pants !!

  10. Wasn’t Lott the Minority Whip before he left? Irony?

  11. Strom Thurmond was a great leader and a wonderful man and your blatant disrespect of him shows how much the Jew media has twisted your mind with their vile Zionist propoganda.

Lott is in just as many ethical trepidations as dozens of others in Congress, notably William Jefferson, but also Chris Dodd and Rosa DeLauro, not to mention Mike Manzo, Tom Corbett, a host of others in the socialist half of AIPAC called the “Democratic Party,” and considering that the only way to get into Washington is virtually to spend the money for the banker’s interest and favor the predatory lending schemes of creditors engaging in the sinful act of usury this should not be surprising. Stop handing your country over to heartless Zionists just because the Jew media tells you that the bank’s manufactured recession can only be saved by socialism.

Liberals have to be the dumbest Americans because they swallow the Jew media’s propoganda the fastest and most unquestionably, at least the so-called “conservatives” reflect on the Lord’s Bible and true American values before being diverted to wholehearted subversion of the Zionist agenda for the evil state of Canaanites. Wake up and stop the oppressors, the ZOG overlords laugh as you bicker with one another in their manufactured dissent and completely deny their existence.

The greatest act performed by the devil was convincing the world he didn’t exist, and he decided to end that invisibility in 1948 and now the nations of the world bow before him for great wealth and the kingdoms of the world. And that is the reason for Trent Lott’s downfall, nothing any of you are better than because you succumb to the same temptations on the basis of a hoax and the rejection of the truth.

  12. I really get a kick out of the right wingers who always bring up Robert Byrd belonging to the Klan, in a desperate attempt to remove the taint of racism from right wing conservatives.
Are they REALLY saying that if they grew up in an environment where EVERYONE….. friends, family, teachers, police, neighbors and Sunday school teachers ALL supported the Klan, that THEY would had the foresight and vision to have risen above it?
    Byrd himself has said:
“I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times… and I don’t mind apologizing over and over again. I can’t erase what happened.”
It’s hard to imagine the right wingers being on the right side of ANY of the momentous events in our history.
If you think of someone like Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity, and transport them back in time:
    ~ Boston Tea Party,
Would they be on the side of the colonists, or on the side of the EAST India Tea Co. calling the colonists “vandals and thugs of the far left”?

    ~ American Revolution,
Any doubt they would on the side calling the Patriots traitors?

    ~ Underground Railroad,
The right wing in those days were the ones screaming about the states and private property rights.

    ~ Women’s Suffrage,
The Republic will fall if we give in to these feminazis!

We KNOW where they stood in the labor movements and the civil rights movements of the 60s.

There’s a good reason that Mark Twain said:
“ The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out the conservative adopts them.

  13. Oh gosh, State Farm vs Trent Lott.
I only hope for mutually assured destruction.

  14. The only reason Bryd is brought up… is not because anyone actually thinks he’s KKKesque today… but instead to demostrate the absurdity of the Leftists obsessive compulsive need to trash the names of similiar people who had views in the past that are viewed unacceptable today.

You guys have your several buckets of character defamations and you are so invested in making sure you stereotype everyone you disagree with and to place them in one or more of those buckets and then keep them there for all time.

  15. Better late than never, I believe Alan’s interview with Fox economics expert, Tom Sullian, was the best information of the subject I have heard during this whole rescue plan mess.
