That’s because you can’t call yourself “the one” when you’re mocking your opponent for calling himself “the one”.
Here is what McCain’s site said before it was deleted:

And I said it in the summer of 2003, and I said it and I predicted that that strategy would fail because it was a terribly flawed strategy and I advocated the one that is succeeding now. And this isn’t the first time McCain’s team has rewritten history. They also scrubbed an AP article that referred to John McCain as a “celebrity” after McCain mocked Obama for being a “celebrity”.
