“”… by people who were sure that God was on THEIR side),”"”
It’s funny, but I still see evidence of this in today’s world – Everytime I hear an athelete thank god for his teams victory, I wonder what exactly his opponent did to anger the diety and lose his support…
The incident with the madman that hacked an innocent youth to death was very disturbing to Canadians of all stipes. Clearly this fellow had a pychotic break with reality and needs to go to a maximum security psyciatric hospital, most likely for the rest of his life.
It saddens me though to see a small minority of Canadians come out and use it as an excuse to call for the death penalty to be re-instated. I don’t think that this murderer, having completely lost his mind, would have been deterred by the threat of a good ol’ Alberta-style hangin’.
Of course, I don’t mind admitting that had the victim been a member of my family or a friend, I would naturally feel the overwhelming desire for revenge.
And as well, it is easy, as “Jesse Helms” does, to fantasize about having been able to draw a weapon and blast holes in the perp before the fatal wound was delivered. Hmmm. I can see the appeal in that. But I still prefer not having hand guns in the coat pockets of the citizens. It’s far more likely that on a crowded bus, in the dark, that the victim would be dead before anyone was able to respond. More likely there might have even been more victims…of innaccurate hand gun fire.
As far as the other passengers rushing off the bus and some of them being sick at the site of this maniac weilding a severed head…I’m not sure I’m surprised at that, really. It’s one thing to brag about how you would have “tackled” the guy and subdued him, and those that didn’t are “pussies”…and another thing to actually have been there.
We can only pray it’s an isolated incident, because the last thing we want up here is a bunch of gun-toting vigilanties shooting up the place, like that homicidal maniac in Texas.
Oddly, I believe we Canadians actully own more firearms per capita than Americans, and yet our annual murder rate remains quite low.
In addition, I actually find Alan Colmes to be quite respectful of his guests – allowing them to make their point, although not without challenging them fairly. The only time I hear him interrupt is with some callers that repeat themselves over and over, or are spouting outright falsehoods, including those that they have picked up earlier in the day on AM radio.
For Fox “News”, this is a refreshing change from Bill O’Reilly’s “interview by shouting down the guest” or Sean Hannity’s tactic of “I know you are, but what am I?”…
I don’t agree with everything he says: His belief in the Bronze Age myth of “God” for instance, or that “John McCain is a nice guy”…
…but in general I think he’s spot on most of the time…

“Mr. Colmes, I don’t see why anyone would associate with a liar like you when you frequently lead people to false conclusions”
please show proof of the claim you disproved and then ill believe you. i can call someone a liar all day but be a liar myself by not disproving that person. oh and another thing “Randi Rhodes or Mike Malloy” DO NOT speak for the democratic party and they definitely DO NOT speak for me. they are no better or worse than limbaugh, hannity, or alan. the intelligence lies with you to make up your own mind, and obviously you let someone make it up for you.
Khalid Mohamed, started ploting 9/11 at N.C.A&T.He claims he was not racist, until he lived in Carolina.
You’d be mad too if your dog was walking around bow legged and wouldn’t go outside to crap anymore.
Your fishing line is the biggest joke in the world. The line goes TEACH a man how to fish, which means learn how to read and write English correctly and develope a marketable job skill. People that drop out of school, think they are going to show the world by working at Taco Bell or Lowe’s, and have the most atrocious customer service skills on earth really don’t deserve a lot of sympathy when people spend 4-7 years pulling all nighters and taking out loans to learn how to contribute to society and then work typically 70-90 hours a week so the government can steal half of their income and regulate the hell out of their line of work.
“Bill Clinton and Al Gore have made more money than ANY presidential administration after leaving office EVER.”
………………………….
They make money speaking and writing…So What?
It WOULD be better if politicians didn’t make money, from their ’service’ but the do.
Old time conservative Kevin Phillips has called them the “Bush Dynasty” for a reason:
The difference with THEM is… their PERSONAL fortunes are tied up in industries which are made MORE profitable by the very foreign policies that they themselves make.
If you can’t see the difference, I feel sorry for you.
Many say the war on poverty helped a lot until Nixon made cuts.
If you want to teach a guy to fish, but his fishing rod breaks before he even starts, do you blame the guy who tried to teach him in the first place?
I guess it just depends on WHOSE propaganda you read.
“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.”
Mark Twain
“You know if some motherfucker tried that in North Carolina he would have ended up looking like Swiss cheese and the victim would still be alive. Moron.”
……………………………………
I guess there is NO crime in North Carolina.
This makes you sound like a 12 year old:
So where’s Osama bin Ladin?
Maybe YOU should go and get him.
And do you think that using foul language and calling people names makes your argument stronger?

Oops, forgot to sign my name.

But this isn’t the show thread. Thou art an abject failure!!

This is a true statement:
Vinnie Pee is a tool…
August 6th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
Those things are really cool. Well, at least Obama appears to be more truthful.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:49 pm
I know I’m going to trust a rinky dink local newspaper to be a fair judge and objective about these manners.
not.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:54 pm
Unfortunately, that’s called “attacking the source,” the opposite of an “appeal to authority.” Both of which are fallacious. On logical grounds, you’d lose if you dismiss this, Vinnie.
August 6th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
What you say is true if I was dismissing what they said for each specific item.
Instead my critique was about drawing larger conclusions such as Obama would seem to be truthful based on those reports.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
How can we blame this on Islam?
August 6th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
I blame it on a lamb, not Islam. But that might be rather sheep of me.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Well, that’s not actually how you presented your skepticism, but that’s fine.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:19 pm
“How can we blame this on Islam?”
ROFLMAO
August 6th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
lol, WFG
August 6th, 2008 at 8:20 pm
But let’s be realistic. If people respected those fallacies, many people couldn’t, out of principle, speak.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Btw, Cheryl, I sent you a friend request at the pit.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Methodology is what’s relevant. An argument solely from source might contend that Mansfield can only write hit pieces on a liberal Christian.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
OK, Mr. Colmes, I don’t see why anyone would associate with a liar like you when you frequently lead people to false conclusions and deny anyone the chance to present an opposing argument with your frequent interruptions. But this takes the cake, you stole this from Laura Ingraham. You owe your entire life to the FOX news network because you are nothing but a failed standup comic who just happens to have Susan Esterich for an inlaw, you’re worthless Alan. Go hide your face in shame you pathetic lowlife.

You know, I listen to Alan’s show a lot up here north of the 49th parallel…and I hear him mention this blog a lot…but when I come here I usually read some hostile and moronic statement like the one above from so-called “Jesse Helms” and it just puts me right off my tea…
…I suppose it does re-affirm most people’s belief that many right-wingers are just the adult version of the school-yard bully..all growed up, but for some reason still angry at the universe…
They could never win a debate on the facts back then, and they still can’t.
So they resort to hostility, lies and name-calling – although I suppose that beats getting snow stuffed in my bookbag or a wedgie…
:-(

badmrfrosty needs to listen to Randi Rhodes or Mike Malloy sometime. Alan is an exception in that he takes conservative calls long enough to interrupt them, but he doesn’t overtly go out of his way with profanity laced diatribes intent on humiliating them when they’re only allowed three interspersed words in the middle of catchphrases about “evil” and “racist” and “greedy” and “heartless.” And the thing is frosty, we don’t have people cutting eachother’s heads off in buses because they know they’re going to get blown away since the rightwingers don’t let the pussies of the world run society, so you might want to think about just how much cannibalism there just might be up in the provinces if you didn’t have the behemoth of justice between you and an entire hemisphere of desperate wretches.
August 7th, 2008 at 6:03 am
Jesse Helms said,
“badmrfrosty needs to listen to Randi Rhodes or Mike Malloy sometime.”
Actually, Randi Rhodes probably quotes and links to more government documents and official sources than most talk show hosts.
She is constantly urging her listeners to NOT believe her, but to read the the Duelfer or the David Kay report themselves.
She always says, “Don’t take my word for it….I know the company I keep on talk radio.”
Mike Malloy certainly seems over the top to many with his, “Bush Crime Family”, but it’s no different than the way the right spoke about Bill Clinton.
The greatest difference I see is that the anger from the left is directed at the powerful that they see as exploiting the little people, while the anger from the right is directed at the little who get in the way of the powerful.
You said,
“And the thing is frosty, we don’t have people cutting eachother’s heads off in buses because they know they’re going to get blown away since the rightwingers don’t let the pussies of the world run society”
My side feels that the REAL reason is that we don’t let the religious wackos in THIS country get too much power,
(one has only to look at the treatment of the Indians, and slaves by people who were sure that God was on THEIR side),
and the REAL reason that people are cutting each other’s heads off in buses over THERE, is because the Westren world has always supported radical Islam, rather than deal fairly with moderate, secular governments.

“at the little who get in the way of the powerful”
And OldLefty keeps spreading the propaganda that just never stops.
Bill Clinton and Al Gore have made more money than ANY presidential administration after leaving office EVER. If they had been Republicans people would be screaming bloody murder for two statesmen making $100,000,000 in speaking fees after returning leaving public life. Bush has actually lost several million since taking office, of course you would never know that in the lies that he’s fighting a war for profit. Maybe the profit of the Iraqi people, but we all know liberals love poverty and misery so they can look like they are doing something by pretending to care.
Johnson’s war on poverty increased poverty and tripled the illegitimacy rate of black children. Good job dems. For all your banter about lobbyists in Washington, the two biggest lobbies are the NEA and AARPA, both of which are SOLIDLY Democrat backers. Makes you wonder why education and prescription drug care and retirement home quality are among the lowest in the Western world…
And trade unions are one of the largest sources of soft money. Stop your lies leftists, you have the biggest celebrity backing ever, you are as much corporate whores as anyone, I don’t see Obama turning down pharmaceutical money or oil bundler contributions. Moveon.org and George Soros DAMN sure ain’t little guys with $8 billion, Warren Buffet is one of the richest motherfuckers on the planet. Last I checked the only person who didn’t take the big money was Ron Paul, and he managed to set records from REAL small donors, unlike Obama the fraud who just is very creative in laundering the bribes. But I’m sure he learned from the best while serving as a bagman for the corrupt Chicago crew in the Daly legacy.
And Lefty, the guy who was hacking off a head and eating the remains was a Chinese immigrant on a Greyhound in CANADA. Instead of resisting, the passengers all ran like socialist pacifist chickens and barfed in the snow after seeing the decapitation and cannibalistic acts. You know if some motherfucker tried that in North Carolina he would have ended up looking like Swiss cheese and the victim would still be alive. Moron.
