John Edwards Admits Affair
Edwards says on Friday night’s “Nightline” that he lied as a presidential candidate about his relationship with 42-year-old Rielle Hunter. Edwards says he did not love his mistress, and that her baby isn’t his, although he did not take a paternity test. Edwards claims his sexual relationship with Hunter ended too soon for him to be the father. The baby was born on February 27, 2008.

The affair began during his presidential campaign after they met at New York bar in 2006. Edwards says his wife and family have known about this since 2006, and at the time the affair began Elizabeth Edwards’ cancer was in remission.
When the National Enquirer first reported the alleged Edwards-Hunter affair last October 11, Edwards, his campaign staff and Hunter vociferously denounced the report.
“The story is false, it’s completely untrue, it’s ridiculous,” Edwards told reporters then.
He repeated his denials just two weeks ago.
Edwards today admitted the National Enquirer was correct when it reported he had visited Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hilton last month.
The former Senator said his wife had not known about the meeting.
Edwards denies that he made any payment to Hunter to keep her quiet, although he says it’s possible some of his friends or suporters may have done so without telling him.

Does this admission still mean he’s a liar?
If so, then why are all politicians liars?
August 8th, 2008 at 3:38 pm
I’m glad he’s not the nominee. He couldn’t as slick about as Bill Clinton. The issue will not slide off of him like Teflon. He would go down like Gary Hart.
August 8th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
It’s not that all politicians are liars. It’s that people are liars. All of us.
And I guess this goes to prove that even the National Enquirer gets it right once in a while, when they’re not just making things up out of whole cloth.
But I’m reassured to see Edwards continuing the tradition of Democrats messing around, while Republicans trample the constitution and spit on democracy.
August 8th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
although he says it’s possible some of his friends or suporters may have done so without telling him.
Oh comon John.
Now his children with Elizabeth are dealing with their mothers cancer and their fathers “other family”.
Some men can be such assholes. That is a totally non-partisan comment. Sexist maybe, but non partisan.
August 8th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
What’s the point of this story?
August 8th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Now he openly admits to getting Hunter pregnant.
I don’t believe him, he’s lying….lol
August 8th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
RJ, ya gotta ask the Nat’l Enq. They beat out TMZ and now we all have to pay.
August 8th, 2008 at 3:52 pm
What a lovely story about Johnnie boy…
August 8th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
Here’s something nice: US sending envoy to Russia/Georgia conflict. When did Russia go to Georgia? I heard they were going to Alabama!! Ok, stupid I know but it’s Friday.
August 8th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
I feel sorry for Andrew Young. All this time he thought he was having an affair with her.
What’s the point of this story?
(Stolen from somewhere I can’t remember)
1) Too horrible and shocking; it can’t possibly be true;
2) It’s not true;
3) You can’t prove it’s true;
4) Why are you trying to prove it’s true?
5) It’s disgusting that you’ve proved it’s true;
6) What’s the big deal anyway?
Thank you RJ for skipping straight to plank 6.
August 8th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
I knew his ass was guilty bc of the way he was running from the cameras.
August 8th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
so the pundits are saying that the mistress had performed campaign duties making some sort of films that didn’t get aired and have now disappeared. They are figuring its some sort of out of court child support or a payoff. More to come I’m sure.
August 8th, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Once again, T2P, we on the left do not consider ourselves to be the party of moral values. We had no issue with Larry Craig being arrested for picking up men in an airport mensroom (we thought it was pretty funny though).
We did, however, take issue with his hypocrisy.
August 8th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
What a scum bag lawyer this Edwards is…. he drags his dying out with him on the campaign trail… and then after trying to get that “we’re so brave for fighting on” attention, he then spawns with another women.
Good riddance to him
August 8th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
…And George Bush is such a saint for lying us into a war with a sovreign nation, sacficing the lives of over 4000 Americans soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children so he could steel their oil.
Now THAT’s what real men do!!!
August 8th, 2008 at 5:10 pm
Once again, T2P, we on the left do not consider ourselves to be the party of moral values.
Obviously.
You’re quite bothered by edwards cheating on his wife despite your claim of the left not being the party of moral values.
I didn’t mention anything about morals in my post. I made a joke at the expense of Andrew Young, the aide of edwards that was taking the blame for the affair. I also pointed out how the left treated this news story.
What was it, my use of the word “plank” brought up dreams of the communist manifesto?
August 8th, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Bush is such a saint for lying us into a war
Haven’t we gone over this before?
Did ALL these democrats lie us into the war? Some of these democrats were even “lying” before bush was in office.
http://www.freedomagenda.com/iraq/wmd_quotes.html
sacficing the lives of over 4000 Americans soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children so he could steel their oil.
Of course this bothers you, I’m sure you aren’t using any gas or products made with petroleum. If you are, wouldn’t that make you both an accomplice and anhypocrite? And you know what people feel about hypocrisy.
If this was a war for oil, why did we go into Baghdad, Fallujah and Mosul. There’s no oil there. Why subject troops to harm if bush could have had all the troops land next to the oils well, the navy setting up blockades and just start stealing the oil. Do you believe that’s what bush wanted to do but just another thing he screwed up?
August 8th, 2008 at 5:24 pm
If I could type, this is what I would have typed-
“accomplice and a hypocrite”

Globe Magazine: John McCain’s Forbidden Flings (Will the MSM Hype-up This Story Too)
http://www.globemagazine.com/story/147
August 8th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
There’s a bigger issue to consider here.
If the National Enquirer got this story right, does that mean we have to go back and reconsider the truthiness in their other scoops?
President Bush really has hit the bottle again?
An bat boy was born to a couple in Michigan?
Oprah is an alien?
Alien technology is behind the success of Bill Gates?
Bill Gates is an alien?
August 8th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
I know the slaughter of over 4000 American troops means nothing to you, but it does to me. This was an unnecessary war and is an unnecessary occupation.
Do you think we’re better off because Bush invaded Iraq? I think not since gas is now over $4.00/gallon, compared do $2.00/gallon prior to 2001.
So, we’ve sacificed all these innocent lives so gas can go up to $4.00/gallon and we can saddle the next generation with backbreaking debt.
August 8th, 2008 at 7:23 pm
The Left is ALL ABOUT imposing its tryannical morals on everyone.
Dont let them deceive anyone when they claim to not have morals…. they have antimorals… the Left is the perfect counterpoint to Social Conservatives (of which I am not one)
For the Social Conservatives, their religion inspires their politics… for Leftists their religion is politics.
August 8th, 2008 at 8:26 pm
Sure Vinnie, and we’re all Muslims out to get you.
August 8th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
And George Bush is listening to your phone sex calls.
You people are the definition of conspiracy theories and delusion.
Yes the Muslims are after you, dumbass. it’s their religion. Tell the people all the world dying every day at the hands of Muslims that they’re making it up.
Have some fucking respect for people
August 8th, 2008 at 8:55 pm
I think this is as sad, (or as disappointing) as David Vitter and Larry Craig; although not as bitingly sardonic, since Craig and Vitter co-sponsored of the Marriage Protection Amendment.
* Read what another poster said under the ‘Iraq Wants Timetable To Get US Out’ thread:
“The Left wing are the experts at hate.. that’s about the only emotion they show.”
Then take a look at some of these posts.
Oh well, I’m going to read the Court of Appeals ruling for CACI International v. Randi Rhodes.
They sued her for eleven million dollars for talking about their interrogations in Abu Ghraib, and the court ruled unanimously for her against CACI.
Should be interesting.

One can only wonder if the “cancer” that supposedly is ravaging Elizabeth “The LIAR” Edwards was caused by the transmission of bodily fluids from her “Devout” husband John “PRETTY BOY” Edwards. We now know that he has followed in the footsteps of his heros’ John “SYPHILLIS” F. Kennedy, Jesse “PHILANDERER” Jackson and “Rev”? Martin “I RUT ON BEEATCHES EVERYWHERE I MARCH” Luther King Jr. and cheated on his wife because she condoned this behavior to maintain a prominent place before the national media. I truly amazes me that the wives of those in the “leadership” of the Democratic party will allow their respective mates to indulge themselves in such risky behavior so long as they, the wives, are allowed to garner the attention they so desperately desire. For this crime perpetrated against the American electoate she, the liar Elizabeth should be sentenced to die a horribly painful lingering death as she watches her “devout” husband parade before the media a succesion of sluts and whores’ “du jour”. I always knew this FRAUD was a hipocrite and this has confirmed my belief. My only hope is that now that “PRETTY BOYS’” mistress has purchased a 3 million dollar home in Santa Barbara California that the Federal Election Commission now descends upon the “charity” (campaign office) that he established with subpeonas in hand and remove all paperwork pertaining to its’ operation. Why has this “charity” started by “PRETTY BOY” only awarded 7 scholarship for $10,000.00 each for a total of $70,000.00 when over $1.5 million was donated (I say bribe money) for said scholarships for needy students? Could it be that the rest was siphoned off in salaries paid to “charity employees” that were in reality campaign workers? Or, it’s more likely that the missing cash was paid to “PRETTY BOYS” mistress as “hush money” As I am quite aware that birth announcements are public record it comes as no suprise that “PRETTY BOYS” mistress conviently left the name of the father of her “love child” blank. Could it be possible that she was paid for that ommission? I think so! “PRETTY BOY” say goodbye to that nomination to the Supreme Court! Say goodbye to the spot on Barack HUSSEIN OBAMAS Democratic ticket as vice presidential candidate! “PRETTY BOY” Say hello to your new cellmate JAMAL who’ll be raping your ass for the next 5 years as Barack is likely to lose in November which rules out any pardon for your soon to be convictions on violating RICO statutes. Maybe if you ask nicely Johnny some of your past “patrons” will send tampons to stop the enevitable rectal bleeding you will soon be plagued with. SO LONG “SUCKER”!!! and I mean that literally!
August 8th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
You know Vinnie, they now have drugs to combat Tourette’s syndrome and extreme paranoia.
August 8th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I think not since gas is now over $4.00/gallon, compared do $2.00/gallon prior to 2001.
I like your logic, connecting the dots between the price of gas before and after the war. Unfortunately, you picked the wrong dates.
Compare the price of gas before the democrats took control of congress and now.
August 8th, 2008 at 10:28 pm
I know the slaughter of over 4000 American troops means nothing to you, but it does to me. This was an unnecessary war and is an unnecessary occupation.
Once again using your logic…
Of course the FACT more people are murdered in the streets of america since the war started doesn’t bother you.
Unlike the brave heros that volunteered to serve their country, normal everyday people are being slaughtered in the streets of america. That I believe should be much more of a concern for those that care about others.
August 8th, 2008 at 10:42 pm
She’s an attractive woman.
If I was going to hire a bimbo to embarrass a Democratic candidate, she’s exactly the kind of woman I’d go looking for.
The Russians and Georgians are starting a shooting war over there somewhere today. Thank goodness this Edwards/Hunter stuff has pushed all that stupid war stuff to the back pages of the newspaper.
August 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pm
Do the math. If the affair was over in 2006 and Hunter gave birth in Feb08, the baby can’t hardly belong to Edwards.
Unless, Hunter’s gestation period was unusually long. More than 14 months?
Hunter could be an alien life form which would make the National Enquirer connection easier to believe.
Alien Gives Birth to Edwards Luv Child!!!
August 9th, 2008 at 12:01 am
Picture this sex scandal breaking as the primaries began. John Edwards would be disqualified from future consideration due to sex. In this wake, Hillary too would have been disqualifed. Holding this story is what makes it a story. Hillary was not inevitable inspite of the extra assistance provided by the media. The Federal Elections Commission should fine the media for tampering with a federal election. If the truth had been revealed in natural time, the process wouldn’t be tainted. It’s tainted by a girl with a “Golden Monica.”
August 9th, 2008 at 6:30 am
Cenk Uygur put it quite well:
“I love the idea of someone saying Alexander the Great can’t lead his empire because he’s cheating on his wife (by the way, doesn’t Alexander’s bisexuality single-handedly destroy the idea that gays can’t serve in the military).
Blah,…blah… blah. ,…blah… blah…..
So, I want every pundit who condemns John Edwards today to tell me what the difference between him and McCain is and why John McCain shouldn’t also be run out of politics for his adulterous affairs and what he did to his first wife.”
August 9th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Our troops volunteered to serve their country, not George Bush, T2P. The fact he used their lives for his own personal gain is deplorable.
“Compare the price of gas before the democrats took control of congress and now.”
Gas went up to over $4.00/gallon this year. Bush has been in office for 8 years and he as an interest in the oil business. Anybody can see that this price increase is a last chance ploy by the oil companies to have Bush convince congress to sell off all our land to them.
August 9th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Our troops volunteered to serve their country, not George Bush, T2P
The old chickenhawk argument. So in order to be able to order troops to die, you need to have served in the military? Okay, so that means only ex-military men are qualified to be president.
Once again using your logic, have you ever ran for office, then you aren’t qualified to talk about politics. Do you have an opinion about the school system, oops, not if you aren’t a teacher. Healthcare, you got a medical degree?
And think about it, do you really want the decision to go to war made by someone in the military? That would be like hiring michael moore to work at the local see’s candy.
Gas went up to over $4.00/gallon this year. Bush has been in office for 8 years
Thanks for the help. Prices went up since the dems took power in congress.
If having an “interest” in oil means your on their [oil] side, what about all the city/state pension funds heavily invested in oil. Taxing the “windfall profits” of the oil industry is going to hurt a lot of people, and not just those evil rich ceos.
August 9th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
You know T2P, the military is always looking for volunteers. Perhaps you should consider enlisting to fight in this war you so cherish. Unless, of course, you’re a chickenhawk (which is what I suspect).
“And think about it, do you really want the decision to go to war made by someone in the military?”
And why not? We already have an idiot waging wars willy-nilly without considering the consequences.
August 9th, 2008 at 1:59 pm
From The Charge of The Light Brigade:
“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismay’d?
Not tho’ the soldier knew
Someone had blunder’d:
Their’s not to make reply,
Their’s not to reason why,
Their’s but to do and die:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
It is because their’s is NOT to question why that OUR’S is to question why.
It is our moral obligation and duty, to question, before we ask or allow others to make this often most gruesome sacrifice.
August 9th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
You know T2P, the military is always looking for volunteers. Perhaps you should consider enlisting to fight in this war you so cherish. Unless, of course, you’re a chickenhawk (which is what I suspect).
And you know I haven’t served in the military how?
Of course someone like you would never volunteer in the military to serve your country. Am I right or wrong?
And why not? We already have an idiot waging wars willy-nilly without considering the consequences
I fixed your sentence for you-
And why not? We already have an idiot and republicans/democrats in congress waging wars willy-nilly without considering the consequences
August 9th, 2008 at 4:23 pm
We should trust the military to carry out the mission, but not those in power to send them on the right mission.
There is too much at stake and it is too important to assume the BEST intentions of those who have the GREATEST conflicts of interest.
Imagine if the media had done their job, and EVERYONE knew that Bush/Cheny intended to occupy Iraq BEFORE the 2000 election ?
It seems that to the right, ‘Support the troops’ means, never admitting that the mission is wrong, (If the commander in chief has a R after his name, that is.)
August 9th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
You’re right, P2T, I would never volunteer in the military under THIS administration. If I felt my country needed me, I would be there.
And I stand by what I said. Bush/Cheney lied to the American people when he KNEW Iraq had no WMD’s, thereby needlessly endangering the lives of our troops.
Also, I do NOT excuse relatively smart democrats for voting in favor of an invasion. To me, this was unforgivable.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
“PRETTY BOY” should have followed his pal “SLICK WILLY” and shot his wad all over the front of his sluts face and dress. He also if unwilling to use a condom should have stuck in the “rear entrance”. I could say more but I’ll save it for later.
August 9th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
You’re right, P2T, I would never volunteer in the military under THIS administration. If I felt my country needed me, I would be there.
Are you an obama supporter? If so, if he gets elected you will sign up for the military? Or will you wait until after we are attacked?
And I stand by what I said. Bush/Cheney lied to the American people when he KNEW Iraq had no WMD’s
Did you check out that link. Many of those democrats talking about saddam were BEFORE bush was elected. Was that part of the bush/cheney plan, to get all those democrats preparing the masses for his upcoming presidency and iraq occupation.
Also, I do NOT excuse relatively smart democrats for voting in favor of an invasion. To me, this was unforgivable.
Did you know that nancy pelosi on “the view” a couple weeks ago said bush couldn’t be impeached because he hadn’t committed any crimes?
Here’s an interesting *short* video from the mouth of a democrat.
