McCain Responsible For 8200 Lost Jobs In Ohio
John McCain worked as head of the Senate Commerce Committee to help broker Airborne Express’s sale in 2003 to Deutsche Post World Net, the foreign company that owns DHL. Now DHL wants to close its Wilmington, Ohio hub and combine operations with UPS, which would result in the loss of more than 8 thousand jobs in Ohio.
Furthermore, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis was a lobbyist for the German parent copmany, and was paid $185,000 to broker this deal and $405,000 for additional work.
Davis helped Deutsche Post overcome objections in the Senate when the German company was negotiating the purchase, the paper reported. As head of the commerce committee, McCain fought back proposed amendments in a defense spending bill that would have barred a foreign-owned company from flying U.S. military equipment or troops.
In July McCain told a group in Ohio he can’t stop the losses: “I don’t know if I can stop it or not or if it will be stopped.” Obama has this ad out on it:
