US Lacks Influence To Help In Georgian Crisis
Which is just as well, since Condi Rice is loathe to truncate her vacation to deal with the crisis.
Washington has little room for maneuver in the Caucasus conflict amid perceptions that it helped fuel the crisis by over-inflating Georgia’s hopes of US support for its young democracy, analysts say.
“This is probably a conflict where the United States would not be accepted by both sides as a mediator,” said analyst Steven Pifer, a former US ambassador in Kiev.
What a great position we’re in. This is the result of 8 years of failed foreign policies. And we need Russia for some of our international objectives.
…Bush is acutely aware that Washington needs Moscow’s support on several key outstanding international dossiers including the crisis over Iran’s suspect nuclear program and moves to denuclearize North Korea.
Maybe Condi can get around to things when she gets back from the South Pacific.

Well, it’s already over. Russia just announced it’s ceasing its operations in Georgia. Mission: Accomplished. This was just as the French were set to arrive in Moscow.
Look at this way; at least the Bush Admin didn’t make the problem worse. They already helped cause the problem by supplying arms and training to Georgia.

The US lacks funds to help its own people much less Georgians. Maybe we could borrow some more $ from, oh I don’t know, lets try China.

Congress should do something. Oops, they are. They are on vacation. Maybe Obama will do something, oops, he’s on vacation too.
Funny thing about the obama vacation, he went to visit his grandmother, the typical white woman that helped raise him. And he went without his wife & kids, I wonder if that’s because he’s embarrassed about them only speaking english.
and spent an hour with his 85-year-old maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who helped raise him. He was not accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and two daughters.

You’re exactly right, Budda. That’s what we’ve been doing. Our deficit is a disgrace. Seriously. It shames me. How is it that the most powerful country in the world is unable to balance it’s fucking checkbook?

Isn’t Condi supposed to be an expert on Russia…..some expert! Anyhow, this administration makes me sick when they say they don’t like the fact that Russia “invaded” a sovereign nation….WHAT? Didn’t the United States also do that….invading Iraq?
August 12th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
No, no, Lucieann. We don’t “invade” countries, we “liberate” them. Please get that straight, dear. :-)

There is little the usa can do,it was up to georgia to join N.A.T.O. and that country missed the boat! when this is over Im sure georgia will not make anymore diplomatic mistakes.

How can we talk to Russia when we invaded a sovereign nation and occupied it just as they have. We have no moral high ground with them due to the Iraq problem.
