Troops Are For Obama 6-1
According to the Center for Responsive Politics, among those deployed overseas at the time they contributed money to a presidential campaign, Obama was the overwhelming favorite in every service branch except the Marines.
Despite McCain’s status as a decorated veteran and a historically Republican bent among the military, members of the armed services overall — whether stationed overseas or at home — are also favoring Obama with their campaign contributions in 2008, by a $55,000 margin. Although 59 percent of federal contributions by military personnel has gone to Republicans this cycle, of money from the military to the presumed presidential nominees, 57 percent has gone to Obama.
Maybe they realize what the rest of the population does about how we’re fighting the GWOT.

You know that means that they hate freedom.

oh this is going to be such a fun thread.
So let me understand, all of the Troops in Irak and the Stan favor Hussein Obama 6 to 1 ??
well no, technically we didnt say that but we implied it and hope nobody says anything
August 15th, 2008 at 12:34 am
Well they aren’t supporting..themselves.
August 15th, 2008 at 12:47 am
Speaking of donations to campaigns, the Obama campaign bashes McCain for 2 mil in contributions by Exxon? The Exxon John ad? Well its 1.2 mil and Exxon has given Obama $400,000. Is he jealous? I’m starting to hate the way this crap is headed. Go Hillary!!! Make a mess of the whole thing!

Fox News is for McCain 10-1.
So it doesn’t matter.
August 15th, 2008 at 1:02 am
If the numbers can be extrapolated, I hope they will be soon.
August 15th, 2008 at 1:31 am
Maybe, just maybe, they do not want to be over there fighting for the next 100 years. Some of them may even want to come home now.
Did anyone happen to ask the girl scouts or the boy scouts how they would vote?
August 15th, 2008 at 1:32 am
The text quoted above doesn’t make a lot of sense till you look at the table from the embedded link:
Obama, Barack $60,642 134
Paul, Ron $45,512 99
McCain, John $10,665 26
Huckabee, Mike $7,950 10
Thompson, Fred $6,350 7
Romney, Mitt $5,550 10
Clinton, Hillary $3,240 6

I think it’s safe to say that 90% of America hates the thought of an endless war. I think it’s also safe to say that 100% of America hates a failed American Foreign Policy emasculated by the aggressive action taken by Bush using false documents that opened the door for similar acts by Russia and China at will. All any country has to do is play the fear card and they can march right into Downtown Dubai if they have the moxie and the might. Shame on us for not demanding accountability.
August 15th, 2008 at 5:07 am
How is it possible that Bush’s faithful 23% always post here?
August 15th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Because just like that bogus poll on the Troops supporting Hussein Obama, Bush’s support is well above 23%.
Stop listening to the drive-by media, they lie to you and you just keep believing it.
Peace conceptually is a good idea, but force is justified depending upon the circumstances–as Democrats have shown throughout America’s history!

Why is anyone suprised by this?
I think THIS article best illustrates the current relationship of Republicans to the troops:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/19/AR2005081900815_pf.html
The Military’s Recruiting Troubles Extend to Affluent War Supporters
“The writer of the Post-Gazette article , Jack Kelly, explored this question in his story that ran on Aug. 11. Kelly wrote of a Marine recruiter, Staff Sgt. Jason Rivera, who went to an affluent suburb outside of Pittsburgh to follow up with a young man who had expressed interest in enlisting. He pulled up to a house with American flags displayed in the yard. The mother came to the door in an American flag T-shirt and openly declared her support for the troops.
But she made it clear that her support only went so far.
“Military service isn’t for our son,” she told Rivera. “It isn’t for our kind of people.”

“Peace conceptually is a good idea, but force is justified depending upon the circumstances–as Democrats have shown throughout America’s history!”
World War II ~ FDR, Democrat
Tom, why don’t you take a deep breath and think about what you type before you type it. If your argument can be shut down in 5 seconds, what is the point of wasting our time?
August 15th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
“Because just like that bogus poll on the Troops supporting Hussein Obama, Bush’s support is well above 23%.”
Typical Republican motto. Spread lies about opponent. Denounce truths about Republicans as lies. You cons are in for a big surprise this November when you are wiped out of Congress and Obama wins.
Let me guess what you’ll say next, “Obama won’t win. He’s a secret muslim” or whatever trash you’ll come up with. Let me ask you fools a question. If McCain is so great, why do you never say his good points? You do the same as the McCain campaign. Don’t pay attention to how pathetic our policies are, just don’t trust the black guy. It’s really sad and it will be great the next, at least 4 years, when you will fade in the background. Braying, braying like asses…

Dem Woodrow Wilson = WWI-116,608 US lives lost
Dem FDR = WWII-407,316 US lives lost
Dem Harry Truman = Two nukes on two Japanese cities, after that he led the US into Korea=55,000 US lives lost.
Dem JFK = 1st U.S. Pres. to commit ground troops in Vietnam. = 55,000 US lives lost.
Dem Bill Clinton launched the U.S. military around the world on numerous “peace keeping” missions in places like Somalia and Kosovo. As a result of his lax defense and military policies, US troops and military defense was severely weakened and US soldiers died as a result.
Republican George H.W. Bush was the only major Repub to lead this country into a major conflict in the 20th century. The difference was he defeated Husseins(name sound familiar Libs) million-man army in less than 100 days, resulting in a relatively minute loss of US lives-148 to be exact!
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, crack head.

“As a result of his lax defense and military policies, US troops and military defense was severely weakened and US soldiers died as a result.”
Wrong. The “Peace Dividend” was an argument and position of the GOP. In fact, the first public figure to publicly use the expression “Peace Dividend” was Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney.
“The difference was he defeated Husseins(name sound familiar Libs) million-man army in less than 100 days, resulting in a relatively minute loss of US lives-148 to be exact!”

Tom,
Are you against WW11, even though the Supreme commander went on to become a Republican president?
(Perhaps because:
President Bush’s grandfather was a director of a bank seized by the federal government inOctober 1942 under the Trading with the Enemy Act (search). because of its ties to a German industrialist who helped bankroll Adolf Hitler’s rise to power, government documents show.)
I agree that WW1, and Vietnam under JFK, LBJ AND Nixon were not justified wars.
It was Bush Sr who committed troops to Somalia.
How many US casualities in Bosnia/ Kosovo?
(very little if any)
Rep Eisenhower Overthrows democratically elected Mossadegh in Iran, sets up brutal dictator the Shaw, which results in the Iranian people fighting back, and present day Iran.
Rep Ronald Reagan looses 200 marines in Beirut… cuts and runs.
Reagan arms Iran AND Iraq to fund right wingdeath squads in Nicaragua.
Reagan (Carter’s idea), arms and supports radical Islam in Afganistan, giving birth to al Qaeda.
GW Bush runs on “I don’t believe in nation building”, while Cheney, Rumsfeld, and PNAC are planning the occupation of Iraq.
GW Bush turned interrogation and torture over to private, for profit, contractors who are NOT bound by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, that our troops are.
US troops and military defense was severely weakened and US soldiers died as a result.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, crack head.

My challenge…
Go to a military or national guard base and count the number of bush-mcsame bumper stickers compared to the number of kerry-obama stickers.
I pass the edge of a national guard lot when I go running every morning, I can’t remember ever seeing a gore/kerry/obama bumper sticker.
It is not too much different than counting the number of cars in san francisco or seattle with either american flag decals or the marine logo on their cars.
August 15th, 2008 at 4:26 pm
Not everyone has access to a base, so we have to take your word for it.
My cousin who is in the army, says that most of the big brass is Republican, the grunts who think Sadaam had WMD are for Bush, those who who don’t believe he did are for Obama.
We have a recruiting office , but it’s on university campus, and NOTHING but GORE/KERRY/HILLARY/OBAMA as far as the eye can see.
Or it could ALSO have something to do with:
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America gave McCain a grade of D for his record of voting against veterans. (By contrast, Obama got a B+.)
http://www.iava.org/full-ratings-list
Disabled Veterans of America noted McCain’s dismal 20 percent voting record on veterans’ issues. (Obama had an 80 percent.)

Counting bumper stickers at a military base? That’s much more accurate than any poll. How about jsut walking around a crwod and getting the “vibe” who they support. Or maybe, T2P, we could use ESP. I could think of more sarcatic examples, but I think we all get the point of your absurd post.
Bumper stickers.
Whateva…

‘…getting the “vibe”…’
Wait, that’s a quote from Jerome Corsi, right? Like, he’s got this “vibe” that oil just grows.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:23 pm
With the way that Bush and McCain have treated the troops, from sending them off on 5 or 6 tours of duty to opposing (and Bush vetoing) the GI Bill, I’m not the slightest bit surprised.
Those who see McCain represented as the “miliary’s choice” in the media may very well be surprised.
August 15th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
FuRyUs-great comeback! Sounds like someone did not elect History 101 as an elective in school.
OldLefty-At least your paying attention and show some intelligence. However, minute US lives were lost in these circumstances compared to all the other wars.
Pres. Bush’s grandfather story though? Thats a stretch, your grasping for straws with all that, not even comparable to the other wars, right?
I dont disagree with any US President, they were all much smarter than any on this blog.
Rightwing or Leftwing we are all part of the same bird. Just trying to make a point that Dems and Reps have pros and cons as well. We the people are what make this great country tick, not politicians!
August 15th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
McCain is not the choice for most Conservatives. Give me a conservative Dem and myself along with millions of other conservatives would vote a conservative Dem over McCain, and I’m not kidding! There are some out their too. Just look at McCain, he is a liberal Republican. We have to pick the less of two evils here. Obama is not even close, a Dem who is being true to themselves would say the same about Obama. The guy is arrogant and has no experience, no one can even name two accomplishments that makes him fit to be our leader, he has done NOTHING!! Accomplish something and come back in about 20 years with some experience.

From an ACTUAL, bona fide conservative, Kevin Phillips recounts in “American Dynasty,” the Bush family presents a record of war profiteers who use public office to gain wealth and advantage. Along the way, Bush family business cronies receive political access and legitimacy.

I served in the USAF during the 90’s under Clinton and let me tell you, I wish I hadn’t. There is nothing like worrying if you are going to get a paycheck or fearing a stop-loss because he downsized so much.
Don’t forget, because of his nonsense of cutting costs on our military we were BOMBED with airplanes in NYC and DC on 9-11.
Also, I am curious how many of the donations came in from combat troops or desk-jocky’s. Oh, yeah, there are those who do nothing but sit at a desk in the military just like at the DMV and do literally nothing worth bragging about while their counterparts fight oversees for the rest of us.

Why? Because you believe the right wingers tell you over and over that they support the troops, when they REALLY only support Defense contractors?
If they spend ALL this money on the razzle dazzle weapons, AND dish out Billions in no bid contracts at cost plus, AND conduct wars on two fronts, AND have massive tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, is it any wonder that;
Troops suffer from lack of armour:
(They won’t let you post too many links)
~ Soldiers in Iraq still buying their own body armor
~ MARGARET WARNER: As U.S. casualties have mounted in Iraq so too has criticism of the body armor supplied to soldiers and Marines.

Counting bumper stickers at a military base? That’s much more accurate than any poll.
Polls are not accurate. Remember how those on the left complained about the exit polls showing kerry won. Polls are easily manipulated.
Are you disagreeing that the number of gore/kerry/obama stickers vs. bush/mcsame stickers in san francisco or seattle doesn’t mean anything. Do you think there are more bush stickers in texas than hollywood?
My ESP says you vote democrat. How did I do?
August 16th, 2008 at 12:39 pm
OL,
I hope you kill yourself in November after Obama loses by forty states to McCain. You sound like your just an old miserable human being who hates America and all it stands for. If you knew anything about our military you would know that our Troops are the most well funded, best trained military in the world! Our equipment and intel is second to none. We are the worlds police and superpower because of our military. Believe me when I tell you and I know first hand that the Troops are overwhelmingly supporting McCain. Over 80% !!!!! You really sound dumb when you talk about our military, you have no clue, except what you hear and read by our media. They are wrong on the issues of our military, dead wrong. Stop quoting your unreliable sources, its annoying and very inaccurate. Want the truth? Talk to career Military, combat tested veterans! Stop spreading lies about the toughest, most powerful military in the world.
August 16th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
Old Veteran:
You’re full of shit. Not only that, but you’re a senile, bitter old man. Obama is supported 6-1 by the troops. That’s a fact. If you don’t like it, that’s your problem, we don’t want to hear about it.
And if Obama loses by 40 states in November, chances are the election was rigged just like it was in 2000 and 2004. Asshole.
August 16th, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Old Veteran,
“YOU sound like your just an old miserable human being who hates America and all it stands for.”
If YOU care about the troops more than the chickenhawks in the Republican party, copy my headlines and google them. (They don’t let you post too many links here),
I put my country ABOVE Dear Leader and not the other way around.
Careful, you are sounding like the “good German” Referenced here;

And if Obama loses by 40 states in November, chances are the election was rigged just like it was in 2000 and 2004.
Already with the excuses?
2000 stolen? You are aware that all recounts show bush won. Hell, I’ll even give you a link to the liberal new york times.
The comprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots solidifies George W. Bush’s legal claim on the White House because it concludes that he would have won under the ground rules prescribed by the Democrats.

2004 stolen too? jesus, your party put up such a flawed candidate mickey mouse could have beat him.
This election being stolen? Maybe if obama was 30 points ahead in the polls, unfortunately your current candidate is only leading in the polls by the margin of error. What does that tell you?
August 17th, 2008 at 9:21 pm
They don’t let you post a lot of links, but here are a few reasons that some think the 04 election was stolen.
Many of us were following these stories while they were happening.
Just google for tons more.
.
The Aug. 14 letter from Walden O’Dell, chief executive of Diebold Inc. -. The head of a company vying to sell voting machines in Ohio told Republicans in a recent fund-raising letter that he is “committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year.”
http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10432334/was_the_2004_election_stolen/3A
But what is most anomalous about the irregularities in 2004 was their decidedly partisan bent: Almost without exception they hurt John Kerry and benefited George Bush.
A review of the available data reveals that in Ohio alone, at least 357,000 voters, the overwhelming majority of them Democratic, were prevented from casting ballots or did not have their votes counted in 2004
The first indication that something was gravely amiss on November 2nd, 2004, was the inexplicable discrepancies between exit polls and actual vote counts. Polls in thirty states weren’t just off the mark — they deviated to an extent that cannot be accounted for by their margin of error. In all but four states, the discrepancy favored President Bush.
On the evening of the vote, reporters at each of the major networks were briefed by pollsters at 7:54 p.m. Kerry, they were informed, had an insurmountable lead and would win by a rout: at least 309 electoral votes to Bush’s 174, with fifty-five too close to call.(28) In London, Prime Minister Tony Blair went to bed contemplating his relationship with President-elect Kerry
But as the evening progressed, official tallies began to show implausible disparities — as much as 9.5 percent — with the exit polls.
What’s more, Freeman found, the greatest disparities between exit polls and the official vote count came in Republican strongholds.
The man in charge of the counting was Kenneth Blackwell, the co-chair of President Bush’s re-election committee.
In a ruling issued two weeks before the election, a federal judge rebuked Blackwell for seeking to ”accomplish the same result in Ohio in 2004 that occurred in Florida in 2000.”
To stem the tide of new registrations, the Republican National Committee and the Ohio Republican Party attempted to knock tens of thousands of predominantly minority and urban voters off the rolls through illegal mailings known in electioneering jargon as ”caging.” During the Eighties, after the GOP used such mailings to disenfranchise nearly 76,000 black voters in New Jersey and Louisiana, it was forced to sign two separate court orders agreeing to abstain from caging.(63) But during the summer of 2004, the GOP targeted minority voters in Ohio by zip code, sending registered letters to more than 200,000 newly registered voters(64) in sixty-five counties.(65) On October 22nd, a mere eleven days before the election, Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett — who also chairs the board of elections in Cuyahoga County — sought to invalidate the registrations of 35,427 voters who had refused to sign for the letters or whose mail came back as undeliverable.(66) Almost half of the challenged voters were from Democratic strongholds in and around Cleveland.(67)
Barriers to Registration
”The Wrong Pew”
In one of his most effective maneuvers, Blackwell prevented thousands of voters from receiving provisional ballots on Election Day.
Long Lines
When Election Day dawned on November 2nd, tens of thousands of Ohio voters who had managed to overcome all the obstacles to registration erected by Blackwell discovered that it didn’t matter whether they were properly listed on the voting rolls — because long lines at their precincts prevented them from ever making it to the ballot box.
Faulty Machines
In heavily Democratic areas around Youngstown, where nearly 100 voters reported entering ”Kerry” on the touch screen and watching ”Bush” light up, at least twenty machines had to be recalibrated in the middle of the voting process for chronically flipping Kerry votes to Bush.
