Welcome To The New Alan.com

August 19th, 2008, 12:08 PM EDT

We’re still working out some kinks, but please look around and let us know what you think. On the right-hand side are MP3’s of the most recent radio shows.  Below that is “The Chat Stream”.  Click around and feel free to start a live conversation.

The latest news and entertainment stories are just below that, and we are working to add a comment section under each story. The most recent posts, the most recent comments, our favorite blogs and the archives are there when you scroll down.

We are continuing to improve the site and welcome your suggestions.

  1. Welcome

  2. Wooo, looks pretty cool.

However, I notice that my chat stream comment “Hmmmm, this is different” correctly appeared on the main page, but isn’t showing up on the sidebar on this thread.

  3. Great remodel! It looks great. Best of luck, I hope you get tons of web traffic. - Ash

  4. And now that I posted my comment above, the comment does appear in the chat stream.

  5. Great look for the new site Alan, just too bad there isn’t more to it than the blog.

  6. Michael….We’ll be adding new stuff as time goes on.

  7. Sounds great Alan, and it’s a great upgrade for Liberaland. I’ll continue to be a loyal reader/commenter as this is the best of “the blogs” out there.

  8. I’m not sure what “Trackback” (next to Leave A Comment) does. (It seems to reload the current page.)

    Ahh, an edit button–excellent!

  12. This website arrived just in time…for Pittsburgh to lose the only 10 hours a day of liberal/progressive talk. WPTT is completing a business-talk coup. Even though I think you’re a milquetoast, I’m still gonna miss you from the local airwaves.

  13. Hi Alan

    congrats on your new website!

(Im not one to complain) BUT whats the deal with the podcasts? are they only available after we pay some fee? So you expect everyone to pay all kinds of money to download your podcasts?

  14. I’m going to offer some suggestions now:

First, a better chat program is needed, one that works in real times and has a time stamp for each post (an option the poster can hopefully choose to not view).

Second, the message box needs to be much larger so editing of comments can be done more easily.

Third, we should have secure log ins for the chat room.

Fourth, the recent comments should be right below the chatroom and above the news headlines, or they should be moved to the other side, and the recent posts, comments and chatroom should remain on the side it’s on.

  15. Alan,

You should make the site so you can click on a podcast of your show and continue to listen to it while clicking on other links on the site.

  16. “You should make the site so you can…”

You can already do that. It’s called “browsing with tabs”.

  17. “So you expect everyone to pay all kinds of money to download your podcasts?”

You can get the first hour for free, or pay for all three. The monthly rate is five bucks and that’s cheaper than most I’ve seen. That’s like 25 cents a show. You blow more money than that waiting for a red light to change.

  18. I like the new site but your hair blends in to the banner and makes you look bald.

  19. I can see his hair fine. Your screen might be too dark.

  20. Thanks WFG. It was the angle of my flat screen. Once I straightened it out I could see the hair.

  21. I like the new look and the expansion plans sound great. Thanks for the edit button! I agree with WFG’s comments. Best wishes for continued success!

  22. Is it possible to get rid of the “posted by” preface at the bottom of the comment? It makes it harder to look and see who actually posted the comment. B/c you have to get past the bold and all caps “posted by” that is the same color as the person’s name (unless they have a link with their name, of course).
