Prime Minister Nuri al-Miliki says an agreement has been reached that all US troops will be out by the end of 2011.  Washington says there is no agreement.  Even if the Bush administraiton is correct that there is no agreement (and I have to really stretch to give them the benefit of the doubt), why wouldn’t they do what they’ve always said they would do, which is not stay longer than the Iraqi government wants us.

Maliki says this:

“There is an agreement actually reached, reached between the two parties on a fixed date, which is the end of 2011, to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil.”

State Department spokesman Robert Wood says this:

[We have a draft, but it has to] “go through a number of levers in the Iraqi political system before we actually have an agreement from the Iraqi side.

“Until we have a deal, we don’t have a deal.”

So who are you going to believe?
