Sarah Palin Not Sure What A VP Does

Palin: “As for that VP talk all the time…What is it exactly that the VP does every day? I’m used to  being very productive and working very hard…”

  1. “This decision really pissed you off.”

LoL, thank you John McCain. Who’s he going to get for Secretary of Homeland Security? The Cable Guy? Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

  2. Rezko, I know you’re a neocon, so that means you never read the Constitution of the United States becase you want to force your Marxism on everyone.

I know your electing a man who cheated on his first wife while married, he dated cindy mccain, but that is ok with you, right?

I know your election a woman who claims to be a christian conservative yet she had sex with a man before marriage. But that is ok with you, right?

Rezko, your just pissed off that Obama had millions of people watching him during his speech and grandpa mccain will have just 30 people at the stage next week.

And socialism? well We have a national school system, college system, even our military is run in a socialist way. All controled by the government.
Why do you hate America and our military Rezko?

  3. John McCain is an idiot. Let’s face it, he didn’t have a choice that would help him. How can Palin be a VP choice with NO foriegn policy experience? Does he think Hillary supporters that are pro-choice will vote for him now? Yes there will be a woman in the White House, but Roe vs Wade will be reversed.

Thank you McCain. Thank you for throwing the election for Obama…

  4. I am sorry, I was solely a Hilary supporter and I was thinking of voting for McCain soon but now I think he’s made a….I do not know what to call it.
Well let’s just say I will be voting for Obama now!
Palin seems as if she thinks with her make up and her highlighted hair. Take off those fake eyelashes behind those glasses and lets get real! I could also care less about this reformer’s workout regime!

    Obama/Biden ‘08

  5. Wow, Alan.. I can truly say with hand on heart that John McCain is not a maverick but a utter frecking fool. I was a republican up until today. I can just see liberal ads on youtube already being made. This is how it goes.. John McCain dies of a sudden heart attack and the phone rings at 3am in the mourning at the White house,Iran has just test fired a nuclear weapon and Isreal is now gathering its forces to bomb Iran, who would you have answer the phone, Biden or Pilin? This decision shows John Mcnobrains has really lost it.. Looks like im gonna have to now vote for bob barr, pls ask sean hannity, if he thinks she has the experience to lead…

  7. Alan obviously is grasping at straws.

Anyone with a brain understands what she meant by that, the Job description in the Constitution is pretty thin

    - break ties in the Senate (and duh.. in real terms that means vote in favor of your party)

    - stage a coup by pen with half the cabinet

    - run the show while the President has his colon checked

    - count the Electoral College votes in Decemeber of election year

So she used that weak job description as a rhetorical device to say she’s happy being busy as Gov.

And there, I feel like I have just had to teach civics and common sense to a child… good going Alan!

  9. This is a bio of Palin from a Hillary supporter at this site
(http://noquarterusa.net) of disgruntled Hillary people. I think Sarah is a great example of someone who walks the walk as opposed to Axelrod-controlled Marxist Obama and his mate Plugs.

    Actually, I’m an atheist.

As soon as my wife and I heard about Palin, we thought – McCain has probably won the election.

Read her Wiki bio. It’s incredible. She’s a true reformer. She worked as a commercial fisherman, She was an athlete. She turned in GOP officials right and left for ethical violations, and has publicly opposed Don Young and Ted Stevens. She stopped the ridge to Nowhere. We were really hesitating to vote for McCain. We were going to sit this one out, because we think Obama is such a typical Chicago pol and he does have that Ayers-Wright thing. Obama and his wife also are really corrupt – you need to read up more on the connections they used during their rise in Chicago. Now we are seriously thinking of voting for McCain.

The only difference in her “experience” and Obama’s is that she’s a VP candidate, and Mr. Wet Behind the Ears is running for the #1 slot. She’s also run a real government, small as it is. The only thing Obama has ever run is the Annenberg Challenge, and all the reviews said it was a big money pit that accomplished nothing.

  10. Sarah Palin speaks like she’s gotta moose up her arse.. Cant wait to hear sean try and sell this one.. Listen Alan i just signed up and donated $50 to Obama/Biden.. If Mc no brain wins GOD SAVE US ALL!!!!!

  12. She’s facing a probe for abuse of office? Golly, she is already making drama!

Palin should just go home, take care of the kids and then get back to her regular pushing around of papers and getting papercuts in her little office but please, — she should not be allowed in the White House. She seems….shady and untrustworthy despite her numerous “efforts as a governor of Alaska”.

  13. I wonder what deep down reasons lead John to choosing her.

  14. Just ask Al “Asshole & Hipocrite” Gore, He knows all too well what a V.P. does, he spent eight years keeping that Dyke Hillary from entering the “Oral Office” and catching Slick Willy penetrating his “Jewess” Lewinsky with the Cuban cigar he routinely held in his hand. As for the “Jewess” Lewinsky she was just another in a long line of young “Heebs” like Chandra “Chlamydia Carrier” Levy whos’ parents held “fundraisers” (bribe parties) for Democratic candidates. In appreciation these “honorable men” offered jobs as “interns” (whores)and the parents in an attempt to blackmail or enrich themselves at the public trough allowed their daughters to become the “cum dumps” for their “patrons”. I doubt John McCain will need his VP to perform this type of activity as he unlike the “nigger” (”Man of God” Jesse Jackson says it, so I can) Barack HUSSEIN Obama is a man of honor and good character. I forsee Joe Biden watching the door to “Oral Office if that ticket wins in Nov if only for the reason that HUSSEINS wife, Michele with that angry clenched jaw at all times scares her “baby daddy” to the point that he’d never let his organ penetrate his wife angry, clenched ape like jaw.

  15. “Palin: “As for that VP talk all the time…What is it exactly that the VP does every day?”

Oh, this is going to get really good!

  16. Did Palin officially say she did not know what a VP does? Duh. That is why McCain chose her. To be just as lost as him. And then they both go have an “affair”. Hey!—-maybe we’ll have more drama in the White house just like Bill Clinton and Lewinsky did!

Wow. America will be as lost as if we had twin Bushes in the white house soon….so could it be more possible to wreck this country even more? That is it. I am moving to Guam OR POSSIBLY voting for Obama.

    Politics has gotten ultimately ridiculous.

  17. She asked (paraphrasing) “What does a VP do DAY TO DAY as opposed to my busy job as Gov”

I know that’s hard for you lefties to nuance but at least try to appear like you’re not all stupid.

  18. Oh for sure…Obama is definitely the next president of the USA now.

Way to go screw yourselves again, republicans. =D

They party who blames the liberals for nuance, now accuses them of not getting nuance?

    A little projection?

I suppose we Americans will foot the bill for a baby sitter.

  26. On the issue of earmarks:

    The Flip:

“We here in Alaska, our administration, we cancelled the bridge to nowhere, we know that, that earmark was not in Alaska’s or the nation’s best interest.” CNBC 7/31/08

    The Flop:

“People across the nation struggle with the idea of building a bridge because they’ve been under these misperceptions about the bridge and the purpose,’ said Palin, who described the link as the Ketchikan area’s potential for expansion and growth.

Palin said Alaska’s congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge as part of a package deal and that she ‘would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge.’”
    Ketchikan Daily News 8/8/06

“Part of my agenda is making sure that Southeast is heard. That your projects are important. That we go to bat for Southeast when we’re up against federal influences that aren’t in the best interest of Southeast.’

She cited the widespread negative attention focused on the Gravina Island crossing project. ‘We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge and not allow the spinmeisters to turn this project or any other into something that’s so negative,’ Palin said.”

  27. In the aftermath of the Walt Monegan firing, one question keeps surfacing over and over again; why does the governor’s husband, Todd Palin appear to hold so much power?

After all, Nancy Murkowski or Susan Knowles were never accused of pressuring a commissioner or inappropriately sitting in on meetings that should have been private.

The stories started last year when Representative Ralph Samuels told me about going into a meeting, he thought would be private, with Governor Sarah Palin. Much to his surprise, Todd Palin was there and proceeded to sit through the entire meeting.

Other lawmakers have shared similar stories and were shocked at how inappropriate Todd’s presence was at meetings with the governor. Yesterday on the Dan Fagan Show, Representative Jay Ramras mentioned that Todd was working lawmakers offices during the ACES debate.

But more importantly, Todd’s fingerprints on trying to impact personnel decisions appear to go beyond the current scandal revolving around State Trooper Mike Wooten.

Consider the story of one of Governor Palin’s former trusted advisors, John Bitney.

Bitney grew up with the governor, often telling the story of being in the same band class. He served as her Issues Coordinator during her successful gubernatorial campaign in 2006, spokesman for her transition team after the election and on December 1, 2006 he was named her Legislative Liaison.

Bitney was respected as a hard worker by people who knew him and worked with him. In six months, Bitney guided the governor’s policies through the legislature, including her hallmark legislation; AGIA.

But John Bitney made the fatal employment mistake; he got on the bad side of Todd Palin.

In June of 2007, it became known that Bitney was dating the soon to be ex-wife of Todd Palin’s good friend. Palin reportedly began demanding that Bitney be fired.

After a short time, Bitney realized that he couldn’t remain in the governor’s office due to the constant pressure and he worked out a deal with Chief of Staff Mike Tibbles to take a transfer to another department.

On July 3, Bitney was in the process of driving his vehicle back to Juneau when he couldn’t get his state issued Blackberry to work. When he arrived in Tok he called his office and was told that his Blackberry had been turned off and that his name had been removed from the state employee directory.

His call was then transferred into Tibbles who told him the proposal they talked about was a no deal and the governor ordered him fired immediately. John Bitney was never given a reason why he was fired and never given a chance to make a graceful exit.

However reading the press statements from the Palin administration, you’d think otherwise.

According to the APRN on July 9, 2007, Governor Palin’s spokeswomen Sharon Leighow said Bitney left for “personal reasons” and the departure was “amicable.”

The Associated Press reported on July 10, 2007, “A spokeswoman for the governor says Bitney and Palin mutually agreed he would leave his post for personal reasons.”

Bitney didn’t leave his post, he was unfairly and unceremoniously fired and even after serving as a loyal employee was never given an answer as to why he was dismissed by the governor.

According to Bitney, “Todd’s words have so much weight”.

    Confidential Emails

The most alarming indication of Todd Palin’s reach into state government came just yesterday.

Last month, a group of Alaskans filed a freedom of information act for emails sent from the computers of both Frank Bailey and Ivey Frye. Along with several boxes of documents, they received a cover letter along with 78 pages detailing the emails that were not released due to “Deliberative Process and Executive Privilege”. (Privilege log attached)

Page 1 of the list showed seven emails from both Governor Sarah Palin and Lt. Governor Sean Parnell within a three hour time frame on Feburary 1, 2008 that were described as “Email re Andrew Halcro”.

The serious concern about these emails is that they were prohibited from being released to the public due to executive privilege, even though Todd Palin was copied on these same emails.

Todd Palin is not a member of the executive branch, nor is he even a government employee. Todd Palin is a member of the general public.

So why in the world is Todd Palin getting copied on emails that his wife’s administration is classifying as confidential?

Furthermore there is something incredibly suspicious about these emails.

The first email was sent on Feburary 1 at 7:41am from Lt. Governor Sean Parnell to Governor Sarah Palin. Obviously something was burning Parnell to make him fire off an email to the governor so early in the morning about Andrew Halcro. This in turn set off a flurry of email activity that spanned the next three hours and encompassed five different people including Todd Palin.

Judging from the blogs I posted on January 31, the night before, this very well could be about the 2004 TransCanada proposal that Parnell help negotiate when he was an attorney in the oil & gas division that has been kept sealed ever since. TransCanada has insisted to this day that it remain confidential.

These emails should be released to the public…after all Todd Palin has no standing to claim executive privilege. By including him in the email loop, the Palin administration has arguably breached any claim of executive privilege.

After all, government can’t pick and choose what private citizens get to see confidential material, that is exactly why freedom of information laws exist.

The attached print out clearly shows that something drove this administration into overdrive, hence the seven emails in under three hours. Since the executive privilege has been breached by sending them to Todd Palin, this administration should release those emails so all Alaskans can see them.

This is yet another example of why we need to get to the facts about how power is being used in the governor’s office.

(To see the complete email Privilege Log detailing the flow of emails click attachment)

  28. McCain’s VP pick signals his disregard for women, not his support for them! Clearly, he presumes he can lure Hillary’s undecided to his camp…simply by choosing someone of the female gender! As a long-time Hillary supporter–who will vote for Obama–I am outraged. His presumption is an insult to everything we know about Hillary, about her decades of service/vision, about her marvelous campaign, about her class-act in defeat, about our party…about the causes for which women have stood, united, for so long. We need to launch a nation-wide outcry of outrage…and urge all Hillary supporters to rally for Obama and ensure the Democrats reclaim our country.

Cheers for Senator Hillary! No McCain, No Way, No How! AND, no Palin, No Way, No How! Yes she is a woman, but she is NO Hillary Rodham Clinton. HRC is responsible for the 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling and I want to see HRC be the first to go to the White House. It’s an insult that Repubs think we will support McCain just because he picked a woman as his VP. Are we not supposed to notice that Palin is Pale’in compared to HRC? Well, I’m a smart woman and I say, No Palin, No Way, No How!!

GO Democrats! Let’s take back the White House!!
THESE ARE WOMAN ON HILLARY SITE AND WHAT THEY THINK OD PALIN

  29. Here’s the full quote from 8/8/2006. Note she calls the current design Grandiose and says if the people of the island want the bridge they need to come up with a reasonable proposal and then sell the idea to the State and nation. She says everyone is skeptical of the thing as currently envisioned and she tells the town it’s up to them to convince people they need the bridge.

That certainly sounds like someone on a trajectory of cancelling the thing. It doesnt sound like someone eager to rape the treasury.

    ————-

Palin said she adheres to the state constitutions requirement to maximize the benefits of resource development for the people of Alaska. She said she also understands the “significance and the importance of a clean, safe, sound environment.” Maintaining that will allow Alaskans and Americans who are concerned about a “clean, healthy environment here” to support resource development in Alaska.

“We need their support,” she said. Support from other Americans and Alaskans is needed also to move forward with the proposed bridge between Revillagigedo and Gravina islands, she said.

“People across the nation struggle with the idea of building a bridge because theyve been under these misperceptions about the bridge and the purpose,” said Palin, who described the link as the Ketchikan areas potential for expansion and growth.

The Ketchikan community now needs to have a strong, unified effort to say whether it wants the bridge or not. “And if you want the thing, there needs to be good justification,” she said. “There needs to be the reasonableness that the rest of Alaska and the rest of the United States wants to see.”

She said that reasonableness could include a compromise in design and cost, such as limiting the link to a single span instead of the two-span Revilla-PennockGravina route.

“Its pretty grandiose here, what is proposed,” she said. Palin said Alaskas congressional delegation worked hard to obtain funding for the bridge as part of a package deal and that she “would not stand in the way of the progress toward that bridge.”

  30. When McCain runs out of depends, he can always borrow diapers from his VP. LOL!

  31. Just one angry 60yr old white woman waiting in line to vote McCain, the others are lining up behind.

  32. KateinMA: I can’t wait for folks like you to shock the hard-Lefties to their core.

  33. If Obama was as smart as he thinks he is, he would have put Hillary on the ticket as VP. By doing so he would have sealed the fate McCain and the republican party. However, Obama shot himself in the foot when he picked Biden, and McCain shoved his foot right up Obama’s ass, shot him between the eyes, and cut off Obama’s testicles and presented them to him on a plate. The most brilliant political move in American history just bit the liberals in the ass. It’s all over for this closet Muslim and his minions, and I haven’t stopped laughing all damn day.

  34. If Obama picked Hillary, he would have to get food testers and have someone start his car for him every morning.

Plus he would have to deal with the Clinton’s stealing all his spotlight.

Not only that, I can’t envision Hillary willing to allow herself to be second fiddle to another man.

She wants to be charge…after investing all that in her marriage and playing the loyal wife and party member , this was her year… and the Trojan Horse blocked her.

  35. Well, I’m a little tired of all the lies and smears tossed at Hillary, so at least when the radical rightists toss lies and smears at Biden it’ll be a little more entertaining.

when McCain made a personal choice to get a divorce you libs try and pretend as if it was adultery/cheating and lies as if you think its a bad thing… what a joke

judging by the initial reaction of childish hate, animal sounds and fart noise from libs here, McCain made a great VP pick.

quote “oh, I was a Hillary supporter and was going to vote for McCain but now? no way, McCain is so stupid and is such a loser we are voting for the socialist black panther Obama and used car salesman Biden”

Just like that liar on Seans radio show a while back saying he saves energy and just bought a Honda Prius car, its great and he loves it. Honda? yes we went to the Honda dealership, almost got the Toyota but the Honda Prius was a better model…

for a few days in a row the fool said Honda Prius. Sean then pointed out Honda doesnt make the Prius, Toyota does!! the democrat strategist eventually admitted he is a liar

  38. Wow Sarah Palin is completely unprepared for this job. Might as well re-elect Bush as vice president.

Everyone knows obama has less experience, he was in the senate less time before he started running for president than Sarah has been governor..And obama has NEVER had any executive experience. 46. Yeah, just because she’s a woman it does not mean that she will have my vote in November…She just doesn’t look experienced enough and I need a solid, intelligent, and wiser duo at the White House.

  48. McCain + Palin = disaster!!!!

  49. I thought Hilary was annoying, this clueless frazzled biatch is worse!

No, Anthony with all due respect you only heard of… whats her name again? Palin, yes thank you, you only heard of Mrs Palin today for the first time EVER! So how can you draw negative protractions at someone you have no clue about? that would make you, well, again with all due respect, a clueless frazzled biatch yourself.

Try to study up on the issues and lets grow up, shall we?

  50. pfft, all my girlfriends, my mom and I are voting for Obama in November. Period. We think Palin is obnoxious anyway.

  51. McCain + Palin = disaster!!!!

(for Hussein Obama’s chances of winning the election)

  52. We think Palin is obnoxious anyway.

Why? because she is not a communist?

  53. Oh my god, I knew McCain was nuts – but this just proves it! He virtually just threw his run for presidency away by making this Hail Mary pass.

How stupid does McCain think women are? So he thinks that by putting some 44 year old woman, former beauty queen, governor of a bum-fuck nowhere state for less than 2 years, has NO national experience, has NO international experience into the mix will appeal to Hillary supporters simply because she’s a woman – because you know any woman should do! How completely insulting. Hillary-folk are not that gullible. Evangelicals on the other hand…..

I don’t know why I am surprised by this slap in the face – coming from a man who called his wife the c-word in public, cheated on and left his first wife (who faithfully waited for him to come home for over five years and was left disfigured by a life-threatening car accident) for some rich – beer empire, high price looking hooker. Way to promote those great CONSERVATIVE FAMILY VALUES! But he’s pro-life – so it’s all good, right?

Oh and I can’t wait to see this woman debate with attack dog Biden. I think I better put a depends on first; I’ll probably piss myself.

I also can’t wait to see how much this adorable Down Syndrome baby gets exploited. Probably as much as McCain’s POW status does.

-McCain committed adultery. But…he’s a POW!
-McCain has a horrendous temper and often says horrible, degrading things about others. But…he’s a POW!
-McCain had sex with my pet lizard. But…he’s a POW!

McCain answers every question with: “Well, as a POW…”.
Now Palin will answer every question with: “As a mother of a disabled child…”. Yes, are these things to admire and respect – of course. But don’t exploit them – completely insulting.

Honestly, how is this woman even going to be able to focus on the job of VP when she has five children – one of which is a special needs child? The Republicans think the fact that she gave birth to a Down Syndrome baby and went back to work three days later is so wonderful – well you can really spin this the other way.

Listen, you won’t find a woman who supports women being in high powered postions and balancing this with motherhood more than myself, but… personally I think it’s pretty god damn insensitive and neglectful to that child. If I were to have a special needs child; I would feel my priority would be to focus on the welfare, care and development of that child. There is no way in hell she can make this a priority in the position of VP of the United States.

  54. Rezko Reality
    August 22, 2008
McCain misfires as he attacks Obama’s home purchase.
    Summary
On the defensive over the extent of multiple McCain homes, the GOP candidate strikes back. But his TV spot gives an oversimplified and misleading account of how Obama bought his own $1.6 million house in Chicago.

The ad says Chicago power broker Tony Rezko got “political favors” including “$14 million from taxpayers.” But there’s no evidence of any connection to the Obama home purchase. The $14 million was to build apartments for low-income seniors. Obama wrote a letter supporting the “worthy” project, but both men say Rezko didn’t ask for the letter.
It says Rezko “purchased part of the property [Obama] couldn’t afford.” Rezko’s wife did buy an adjoining tract but later sold the land at a profit. Obama paid market price for his home.

McCain launched the attack after Obama ran one capitalizing on McCain’s inability to recall for an interviewer how many homes the McCains own. Obama’s ad says it’s seven. The best tally we’ve seen puts the figure at eight, counting all the apartments and homes owned by McCain’s wife, Cindy, and various family trusts, for themselves and their children.
    Analysis
On Aug. 21, Barack Obama released an ad chiding Sen. John McCain for his inability to remember how many houses he owns, and McCain responded the same day with a counterattack charging that Obama got help buying his house from a “convicted felon” who got $14 million in “political favors” from Obama. We find McCain’s ad is careless with the facts and could easily leave a false impression.

John McCain 2008 TV Ad: “Housing Problem”

Announcer: Barack Obama knows a lot about housing problems.

One of his “biggest fundraisers” helped him buy his million-dollar mansion.

Purchasing part of the property he couldn’t afford.

From Obama, Rezko got “political favors” including “$14 million from taxpayers.”

Now, he’s a convicted felon, facing jail.

    That’s a housing problem.

McCain: I’m John McCain and I approved this message.A $14 Million “Favor”?

McCain’s ad opens by turning Obama’s housing problem attack back on Obama. The narrator says Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko, one of Obama’s “biggest fundraisers” helped Obama buy his “million-dollar mansion” by purchasing property that Obama couldn’t afford. The ad goes on to charge that Obama helped Rezko receive “political favors” including “$14 million from taxpayers,” and it points out that Rezko is now a convicted felon.

It’s untrue that Rezko got “$14 million from taxpayers” for himself, as the ad seems to be saying. The “help” to which it refers is a one-page letter Obama signed in October 1998 urging the city housing commissioner to support an apartment project for low-income senior citizens. A copy went to the state housing development authority. The 97-unit Cottage View Terrace, which opened in 2002, was funded with taxpayer money, and Tony Rezko was involved in developing the project.

But the deal did not put $14 million into Rezko’s pocket. That figure represents the total development cost for the project. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Rezko and his partner, Allison Davis, netted about $855,000. That’s not pocket change, but it’s a far cry from $14 million. And the tenants of the building benefited too.

Moreover, the ad’s claim that Obama wrote the letter as a favor to Rezko is without factual support. Both men deny that Rezko asked Obama to write them, and Obama says his district office frequently sent letters supporting “worthy” community projects, so routinely that “I wasn’t even aware that we wrote the letter.” Rezko’s attorney, Joseph Duffy, told the Sun-Times in 2007 that “Mr. Rezko never spoke with, nor sought a letter from, Senator Obama in connection with that project.” And Obama told Sun-Times reporters in a March 2008 interview:

Obama (March 15, 2008): [He] did not solicit that from me. … This was a project that was well-regarded in the community, has done well, and was supported on its own merits, and it was essentially a form letter of the sort that I did all [the] time.

Can support for a low-income housing project be a “favor” to the developer if the developer didn’t ask for it? You decide.

    Million-Dollar Mansion

As for that claim about Rezko helping Obama buy his house, well, we’ve dealt with that one before. The gist of the story: In 2005, Barack and Michelle Obama found a house that they wanted to purchase. The property had been divided into two parcels, one containing a house and the other undeveloped land. The owner had listed the properties separately. After considerable haggling, the seller accepted the Obamas’ third bid of $1.65 million for the parcel containing the house. Tony Rezko’s wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining lot for $625,000.

When the Obamas wanted to increase the size of their yard, they approached the Rezkos about purchasing a strip of the adjacent parcel. Obama told the Sun-Times that a 10-foot strip of the 60-foot lot appraised for $40,000. The Obamas nevertheless paid Rita $104,500 (or 1/6 of the total purchase price of her lot) for the strip. In 2007, Rita sold the remaining lot for $575,000 (or roughly a $54,500 profit on the overall property).

McCain’s ad, however, is worded in a way that could leave a false impression. It says Rezko “helped him buy his million-dollar mansion” by “purchasing part of the property he couldn’t afford.” That’s true, but only because the seller wanted to sell the two parcels as a unit and the Obamas couldn’t afford both. Rezko did not make a gift of any property to the Obamas. Furthermore, the fact that his wife sold her lot for more than she paid for it contradicts any suggestion that the Rezkos overpaid for their part of the deal as a way of getting the seller to lower the price to the Obamas for their part.

    Convicted Felon

The McCain ad says of Rezko, “Now, he’s a convicted felon.” That’s true; Rezko was indicted in 2006 and convicted of corruption charges on June 4, 2008. But those charges came after the 2005 Obama home purchase and had nothing to do with that or with the $14 million project mentioned in the ad.

Obama has conceded that purchasing the land from Rezko, whom Obama knew to be under investigation at the time, was “boneheaded.” As we reported in December, Obama has donated campaign contributions from Rezko and his associates to charity.

    What About That Obama Ad?

As we mentioned, McCain’s ad was prompted by an Obama attack ad released earlier in the day. In that TV spot, Obama criticizes McCain for not knowing just how many houses he owns. The answer depends on what you count as a McCain-owned home. We’re going with our colleagues at PolitiFact.com, who decided that the McCain total is eight.

  55. Alan has shown himself to be a liar. He said that Obama has foreign policy experience because he “lived” in other countries, and when he was a toddler. Alan did not have the courage to confront that when a caller that actually disagreed with him. Instead Alan lied and did not have the decency to admit he was wrong. Living in another country does not ass up to foreign policy experience to hold a political office, but Alan is merely shilling for his side. Its too bad he can’t do it honestly!

  56. Alan also lied last month and claimed that Anthrax suicide guy was a right-wing terrorist, when the guy was a devoted Democrat.

  58. Hey Melissa,

If Palin’s voice gets to you, I suggest earplugs! >:) LOL You are going to be hearing a lot from her from this point on. Go McCain/Palin – a ticket that truly represents CHANGE.

To the forum: Does this post mean that you can explain the daily duties of a VP? I think Governor Palin’s answer was actually refreshing – someone confident enough to admit they are not “all knowing.”

I think we all know the _role_ of a VP, but the challenge is to outline what the job entails on a daily basis. If you asked the current VP or even former VPs, they would all have different views on what the day-by-day duties are for a VP. I saw the video and could it be that she just has enough confidence and leadership to not spill her guts? It is wiser to admit what you don’t know if you really want to excel; as most people usually have a dilatory reaction to mavens. (However, Governor Palin obviously already knows this; unlike Senator Obama who speaks so well you would have to believe he is expert at everything.)

  59. BREAK THE GLASS CEILING !!!
WOW … What a great pick!!! America should elect
McCain & Palin for the Whitehouse in November,
for a return to wholesome American values.
An experienced Governor for V.P. vs. a
community organizer for President … I pick Palin.
No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko,
    no mean Michelle, NOBAMA

  60. And you want this Palin squaw, as vp?

What is McCain Thinking? One Alaskan’s Perspective.
    29 08 2008

    Lovely Downtown Wasilla, Alaska

“Is this a joke?” That seemed to be the question du jour when my phone started ringing off the hook at 6:45am here in Alaska. I mean, we’re sort of excited that our humble state has gotten some kind of national ‘nod’….but seriously? Sarah Palin for Vice President? Yes, she’s a popular governor. Her all time high approval rating hovered around 90% at one point. But bear in mind that the 90% approval rating came from one of the most conservative, and reddest-of-the-red states out there. And that approval rating came before a series of events that have lead many Alaskans to question the governor’s once pristine image.

There is no doubt in my mind that many Alaskans are feeling pretty excited about this. But we live in our own little bubble up here, and most of the attention we get is because of The Bridge to Nowhere, polar bears, the indictment of Ted Stevens, and the ongoing investigation and conviction of the string of legislators and oil executives who literally called themselves “The Corrupt Bastards Club”.

So seeing our governor out there in the national spotlight accepting the nomination for Vice Presidential candidate is just downright surreal. Just months ago, when rumors surfaced that she was on the long version of the short list, she was questioned if she’d be interested in the position. She said she couldn’t answer “until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day. I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here….”

There is no doubt that Palin has fierce territorial loyalties. When elected governor there was much concern because she came right out and said she would favor her own home town of Wasilla (where she was mayor) and its surrounding environs collectively known as “the Valley” while leading the state. And it’s obvious from her statement that Alaska was on her mind when accepting the VP nod (see my emphasis above).

So what is it that we’re “trying to accomplish up here”?

    * Palin is currently in the middle of a controversial gas pipeline project in Alaska. She’s favored the ‘Trans Canada’ proposal that will run the pipeline through Canada, in effect shipping US jobs over the border. Many Alaskans, including former governors, have favored the “All Alaska Route”.
    * She is also sueing the federal government over listing the polar bears as a threatened species. The science was even compelling enough to convince the Secretery of the Interior that the bears needed to be listed. But acknowlegement of this issue, and the potential disruption to development on Alaska’s oil-rich north slope spurred Palin to attempt to stop the listing.
    * Does she want to open ANWR? Yes. Every politician in Alaska wants to open ANWR. It’s basically a requirement if you ever hope to get elected for anything. Even Mark Begich, the progressive Democrat running against the indicted Senator and Alaskan institution Ted Stevens, is pro-drilling. That’s the sea we swim in up here. There are a few anti-drilling folks, but you have to look hard to find them, and work hard to have them admit it.

Will all this wash with voters in the ‘Lower 48′? Time will tell.

18 Million Cracks in the Glass Ceiling

It was obvious anyway, but became beat-you-over-the-head-with-a-two-by-four obvious when Palin referenced the ‘glass ceiling’ line, that this choice is a blatant pander to women. I would like to believe that women will actually feel insulted by this. Yes, it would have been historic if Hillary had gotten the nomination. It was historic that she made it as far as she did. Yes, it would be great to have a woman in the oval office, or in the VP slot if they are the right woman…a woman who got there with her own drive, grit, determination, intelligence, skill and merits. When you’re hand-picked by a man to win votes simply because you are a woman, that doesn’t count, and it doesn’t break any kind of ceiling. Would we have had a Stan Palin as our VP pick? No. So choosing a woman because you think her gender will get votes is insulting.

    Governor “Squeakyclean”….or not.

Another focus of Palin’s introduction today was her reform image. Listen to John McCain and you’ll hear about a maverick reformer who took on big oil, took on corrupt Alaska politicians, and whose ethics are unquestioned.

Alaskans really want to like Sarah Palin. In a state where corruption is the rule, and the same faces keep recycling over and over and over again like a bad dream, a new face, with a promise of reform seemed like a breath of fresh air. Palin defeated incumbent governor Frank Murkowski (father of Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski who he appointed to his own Senate seat when he was elected governor) because he was such an obnoxious, bloviating, downright BAD politician. This staunchly republican state voted with relief, not having to cross over and vote Democratic, but still able to get Murkowski the hell out of office. In the general election Palin swept into office running against a former Democratic governor, Tony Knowles, who was capable but came with baggage. And he represented to Alaskans more of the same, tired old-style politics, and special interests that we have come to loathe.

So, if McCain had made his selection six months ago, the squeaky-clean governor meme would have made a little more sense. But, Sarah Palin is currently under an ethics investigation by the Alaska state legislature. The details of this investigation read like a trashy novel, and I suspect that the players will soon have newfound celebrity on the national stage. I’ll try to explain for all you non-Alaskans who suddenly have good reason to want to know more about Sarah Palin. For those of you not interested in trashy novels, feel free to skip ahead. Here it is…what we in Alaska call “TrooperGate”.

Sarah Palin’s sister Molly married a guy named Mike Wooten who is an Alaska State Trooper. Mike and Molly had a rocky marriage. When the marriage broke up, there was a bitter custody fight that is still ongoing. During the custody investigation, all sorts of things were brought up about Wooten including the fact that he had illegally shot a moose (yes folks this is Alaska), driven drunk, and used a taser (on the test setting, he reminds us) on his 11-year old stepson, who supposedly had asked to see what it felt like. While Wooten has turned out to be a less than stellar figure, the fact that Palin’s father accompanied him on the infamous moose hunt, and that many of the dozens of charges brought up by the Palin family happened long before they were ever reported smacked of desperate custody fight. Wooten’s story is that he was basically stalked by the family.

After all this, Wooten was investigated and disciplined on two counts and allowed to kept his position with the troopers. Enter Walt Monegan, Palin’s appointed new chief of the Department of Public Safety and head of the troopers. Monegan was beloved by the troopers, did a bang-up job with minimal funding and suddenly got axed. Palin was out of town and Monegan got “offered another job” (aka fired) with no explanation to Alaskans. Pressure was put on the governor to give details, because rumors started to swirl around the fact that the highly respected Monegan was fired because he refused to fire the aforementioned Mike Wooten. Palin vehemently denied ever talking to Monegan or pressuring Monegan in any way to fire Wooten, or that anyone on her staff did. Over the weeks it has come out that not only was pressure applied, there were literally dozens of conversations in which pressure was applied to fire him. Monegan has testified to this fact, spurring an ongoing investigation by the Alaska state legislature. But, before this investigation got underway, Palin sent the Alaska State Attorney General out to do some investigative work of his own so she could find out in advance what the real investigation was going to find. (No, I’m not making this up). The AG interviewed several people, unbeknownst to the actual appointed investigator or the Legislature! Palin’s investigation of herself uncovered a recorded phone call retained by the Alaska State Troopers from Frank Bailey, a Palin underling, putting pressure on a trooper about the Wooten non-firing. Todd Palin (governor’s husband) even talked to Monegan himself in Palin’s office while she was away. Bailey is now on paid administrative leave.

As if this weren’t enough, Monegan’s appointed replacement Chuck Kopp, turns out to have been the center of his own little scandal. He received a letter of reprimand and was reassigned after sexual harrassment allegations by a former coworker who didn’t like all the unwanted kissing and hugging in the office. Was he vetted? Obviously not. When he was questioned about all this, his comment was that no one had asked him and he thought they all knew. Kopp, defiant, still claimed to have done nothing wrong and said to the press that there was no way he was stepping down from his new position. Twenty four hours later, he stepped down. Later it was uncovered that he received a $10,000 severance package for his two weeks on the job from Palin. Monegan got nothing.

After extensive news coverage about all this nasty behind-the-scenes scandal, which is definitely NOT squeaky clean, Palin’s approval ratings fell to 67%, still high, but a far cry from the 90% number that’s being thrown around so glibly by the Republicans today. Alaskans are quickly becoming disillusioned once again.

    “Executive Experience”

Before her meteoric rise to political success as governor, just two short years ago Sarah Palin was the mayor of Wasilla. I had a good chuckle at MSN.com’s claim that she had been the mayor of “Wasilla City”. It is not a city. Just Wasilla. Wasilla is the heart of the Alaska “Bible belt” and Sarah was raised amongst the tribe that believes creationism should be taught in our public schools, homosexuality is a sin, and life begins at conception. She’s a gun-toting, hang ‘em high conservative. Remember…this is where her approval ratings come from. There is no doubt that McCain again is making a strategic choice to appeal to a particular demographic – fundamentalist right-wing gun-owning Christians. And Republican bloggers are already gushing about how she has ‘more executive experience’ than Obama does! Above is a picture of lovely downtown Wasilla, for those of you unfamiliar with the area. Behind the Mug-Shot Saloon (the first bar I visited when I moved to Alaska long ago) is a little strip mall. There are street signs in Wasilla with bullet holes in them. Wasilla has a population of about 5500 people, and 1979 occupied housing units. This is where your potential Vice President was two short years ago. Can you imagine her negotiating a nuclear non-proliferation treaty? Discussing foreign policy? Understanding non-Alaskan issues? Frankly, I don’t even know if she’s ever been out of the country. She may ‘get’ Alaska, but there are only a half a million people here. Don’t get me wrong….I love Alaska with all my heart. I’m just saying.

I, and all Alaskans will be interested to see how this whole process unfolds. This is definitely a gamble for McCain, and in my humble opinion, a gift to Obama and to Joe Biden who just got thrown a big hunk of red meat for the vice presidential debate.

This is the wedge-issue, desperate ’Hail Sarah’ pass of the McCain campaign.

Now I’m off to get some Jiffy Pop.

  62. McCain didn’t have a choice. The party would have revolted if he picked his butt-buddy LIEbermann. So he went with a fundamentalist fruitcake.

Speaking of which- she might not even be the mother of that Down’s Syndrome baby. The locals are saying it was her daughter’s baby b/c she left school for a long time and then all of a sudden Palin’s pregnant.

This could be big, not as big as her church, though. From what I’ve heard, it makes Rev. Wright’s look like a stale southern baptist pew.

  63. At least McCain knows what to do with his VP pick: use her to pander to the religious right and to women.

  64. Isn’t she another Harriet Meirs?

  66. Anyone else wondering “what up with the throne”?

  67. AgentX – I haven’t heard a thing about Palin’s crazy church, do you have a clip?

  68. Wow Alan. Did your brain shut off after the first part of the quote?

Palin is obviously concerned about what her role would be in a McCain Administration. Is she going to be able to do productive work or just sit around all day waiting for a funeral?

If all you liberals can do to prop up Obama is parse quotes and then lie about them, I’d get ready for some disappointment this November.

  69. There are some disgustingly sexist liberals commenting here. Have you no shame?

  70. I was hoping for Governor Palin to be chosen but did not believe it would happen. I made this video in tribute:

  71. A petition to Bishop Jeremiah J. Park to recover misused Church money

    Dear Bishop Jeremiah J. Park:

Current and earlier events need the attention of your office because they will test the meaning of Christian values and of honor among Koreans.

Recently, you advocated, “No torture”, and with other religious luminaries you have marched to the United Nations to protest against the torture and abuse of suspected terrorists held at U.S. facilities in Guantanamo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. However, why have you not condemn the torture and abuse of the innocent members within your church?

Unwittingly it seems to appear the double standard of morality in the episcopacy as you overlooked the torture agony within a Methodist church.

In any event, the church should not be let alone in a Mafia image under your jurisdiction.

More specifically, Mr. Steve Park, and other church officers, had deliberately and consistently tortured and abused my family for many years while the church remained silent. He and his church underlings used the church’s name and trust fund to malign my family and me in order to rid of us from the church. It was to cover up the looting of the church money.

For instance, for one of the three frivoouls lawsuits, Mr. Park falsely accused my son and me that we planned to kill him, his family, his attorney, and other church members in one of his court depositions:

12 A “He said watch out, you asshole,
13 Specifically said you asshole, you watch out, if
14 You don’t watch your step; I’m going to kill you.

5 A “I’m going to kill your whole family.”
6 Q That’s what Dr. Sone said to you?
    7 A “Yes.”
    P. 62; 9-17, 21-23.
    9 Q You’re claiming that Dr. Sone
10 threatened to kill you and your whole family?
    11 A “Yes.”

Furthermore, he substantiated his assertion that more than 10 persons had witnessed our threats to murder. His witnesses included Reverend Wontae Cha, Y. S. Kim, K. D. Shin, Y. H. Lee, Y. J. Kim, D. J. Chun, Paul Choi, Y. J. Kwon, and I. C. Lee.

Rev. Cha is a good colleague of yours according to information.

Because of his false allegations, my son and I were on trial at the New York State Supreme Court in Nassau County. He used the church’s funds to finance his lawsuit against us. In his lawsuit, Mr. Park also demanded $4,000,000 in damages, while pushing us into the jail as felons.

His lawsuit had nothing to do with the church and was simply a personal vendetta against us. My only offense against Rev. Cha, Mr. Park and others was to strictly observe my fiduciary duty as the chairman of the Board to protect the church’s Building Fund. Nevertheless, according to the court records, officials from the church hierarchy and Steven Park had deceived the judge as if the case was a church-related during an ex-parte conference.

Now, Bishop Jeremiah J. Park must be responsible to identify the persons who were at the secretive meeting with the judge. He must investigate all and any conspiracy against the church and its members. The bishop’s actions matter much with the prestige of the episcopacy.

The year 2008 is the 87th anniversary of the Korean United Methoidst Church and Institute. Bishop Jeremiah J. Park, Reverend Won Tae Cha, Steven Park, Young So Kim and other such characters one day must come to the church and faithfully explain to the worshippers for the justification of the looting for either personal gain or criminal racketeering against the innocent loyal members.

The cowardly leadership owes an explanation to the fellow church members about the mismanagement of church finances: For example, an $180,000 building renovation contract lost for nothing. It only enriched the related parties. Or, another example when the chairman of the board of trustees embezzled $70,000 he is awarded with church money to pay for his legal fees and for part of his embezzlement. Also his faction paid the fines for the sanctions and the contempt of court with the trust fund although they had to pay. Another irony is Methoidst Mission Fund donated $50,000 to the trust as if an incentive to the looting

The judge and NYS Attorney General advised to recover the funds from the abusers. But, why anyone in the church leadership has done anything about these malfeasances?

Now, the time has come to your office to clarify the ultimate moral issues. On July 15, 2007, the church decided to hire a certified public accountant (excluding Korean CPA) to audit the church finances starting from year 2000. The audit is to determine if any fraud has occurred. But, since then, Reverend Chang, the current pastor, who is a friend of yours according to information, has not yet started it.

The church must recover the stolen funds from Mr. Park and the embezzlers. Perhaps, the church may file an insurance claim for the stolen funds so that the insurance company can compensate them. But, you, the bishop, must enforce church rules and order to help this church recover financially as well as morally. Otherwise, the church has no standing as “a light house” to the dark world.

Now, remember that any decent mind cannot allow our historic church to be built on the foundation of the age-old scandals, but on “the rock”. Most of all, the church should be liberated from evil capitulation still in power. If Mr. Park and others like him have succeeded to scapegoat the church scandals on an innocent family, then they would have said, “Halleluiah!!” The church should be maintained as a house of prayer, but a “den of robbers.” (Matthew 21; 13)

Without any further delay, you must recognize that the Korean United Methodist Church and Institute has been under the control of the spiritually-dead clergies and criminals who are filled with demons, falsehoods, hatreds, and deception. It does appear to be a moral crisis of the Korean Church, the NY Annual Conference, and, perhaps, the United Methodist denomination.

I am praying for your spiritual victory in good faith and for the renewal of our historic church. The Book of Discipline guarantees open meetings and free speech. Why can’t we have an open debate for the renewal at the church or a public media? The congregation wants your spiritual leadership as the bishop of the NY Annual Conference as well as the top church leader of the Korean immigrant Christian community.

Please let me remind your office that it is my duty and mission to continuously protect the church’s common interests, according to the church’s rules and the Christian teachings. That is my only way to seek justice and to restore our family name as I have learned from the church throughout my life.
Alas! The church is spiritually, morally broken as it is now.

    Sincerely yours in Christ,

On July 15, 2007, the church decided to hire a certified public accountant (excluding Korean CPA) to audit the church finances starting from year 2000. 73. “And you want this Palin squaw, as vp?”

“AgentX – I haven’t heard a thing about Palin’s crazy church, do you have a clip?”

“is Sarah (dumb dumb) Palin the best the republicans have to offer… its so laughable…”

“For my family, for this country, I think I will go with Barack Obama and Biden. They just appeal to me better and they just look strong together.”

That last one sums up it…people voting on their feelings. These are the kind of comments and this is the kind of reasoning that are supposed to be coming from the “educated”.

It amazes me that people like the ones I quoted above have the nerve to say they are voting for change with Obama. This is the same ole same ole…They also have the nerve to say McCain’s judgment is scewed after delighting us with their words of wisdom.

Did we just transport back a few decades? I thought liberalism and the “educated” were all about “tolerance”? Oh I guess it is that ole tired saying “do as I say not as I do…”.

    Scrambled eggs anyone?

  74. Palin: “As for that VP talk all the time…What is it exactly that the VP does every day? I’m used to being very productive and working very hard…”

Alan, I have nothing but comtempt for you. You know what she meant. The Vice-President’s sole job is to wait if the President dies. That is the sole duty. What does the Vice President do every day? Undecided.

  75. This article demonstrates McCain’s inability to use good judgment even in his younger days.

The right and men who live off their second wives’ inherited wealth

What’s most notable about John McCain’s confusion over the number of homes he owns isn’t merely that it demonstrates that, after running his campaign based on depicting Barack Obama as an out-of-touch elitist and himself as the all-American Everyman, McCain lives a life that is about as far removed from the Average American as one can get, and has done so for decades. What’s notable is how McCain was able to live that way. McCain himself isn’t actually rich. He just lives off the inherited wealth of his much younger former mistress and now-second-wife — for whom he dumped his older and disfigured first wife — and who then used her family’s money to fund McCain’s political career and keep him living in extreme luxury (after insisting that he sign a prenuptial agreement, which would make McCain the first U.S. President to have

  76. [...] isn’t the issue.  The issue is John McCain. He could have chosen someone who knew what a vice president does, or one who understands the Iraq [...]

  77. McCain realy surprises me as he has admitted , he has got no Eco=nomic Suit, order than to Carry on to CHEAT and GLAMORE for wars here and there witout consulting appropriate quarters for opininons and dabling into his WRONG Judgements as seen in IRAQ and now with PITBULL with Lipstics all over.

It is interesting to note that people are now comparing Paling with Hillary, for once these two are incomparable and Paling lacks of love for his family: especially for her Disable child, who needs the attention of a Biological mum and not her father. I am not saying the father can not give a parental care, but in a different manners and ways.

It can be a thing of the Slogan, that states ‘Country first’. McCain drums this from Alskan movement for Independent, moreso when his jugements are to be considered very very wrong. The point in question is the Iraq which his Reubliocan party waged war agaist the Government of Iraq and subsequent Loss of thosands lives in the country including the Americans lives that were wrogly put to ruin.

Having stated all these facts, just to enable Americans to remember that this Election year is about SUBSTANCE as AGAINST PERSONALITY OR HEROIC FIGURE that lacks LUSTRE and Grass root demands right now. The average Americans belief that ENOUGH is Enough about Americans going into wars to attack Vulnerable countries other than Russsian who recetly proof to American goverment that they can equally play game to support their own interet more so at their backyards.

As such, it is now clear that Palin or no Plain,(of course this election is about McCain and Obama)the Americans will not allow MCCainBush administration again after 8 years of near Economic collapse and social deficacy in the life of average Americans with lack of good Health policy; even though the Republicans had shown sign of allienating Bush at their recent convention in Minosota, the Americans refused to be camoflagued.

The calling of Paling is not about to collect the leadership from McCain rather to be around to asceed to Presidency should anything happen to McCain, but as she got what it takes? probably ‘Yes’but after listening to her Conventional speech, I was amazed she could not come out with a Fight on any Policy that will change the life of average Americans rather to go on attack like a MOOSE hoping to escape his assailant. That character is short of somebody to ascced the position of a President whenver the need arises. A leader must be very astute, be able to address issues rather than attacking personality, as such she had lost the PLots and left with lack of Wisdaom bestoweed on Leaders.

Palin has forgeting she is out there not only fighting Obama, rather the whole of 18 million Hillary supporters, the other American Democrats , the Independents and the Truley converted Republicans and the Obama Nations of America and the MOve On group who had all endorsed Obama and its Policies ia all the issues that affecting average Americans. What ever you say Paling, by attacking Obama will seriously affect your party acceptability at the Fall Election.

We shall all be waiting the good choice of Americans come November 2008. Good luck to American Democrats, the Independents and the Truely converted Republicans.

    Obama/Biden ‘08

  78. yes folks i guess we need to look closer at the true sexism and demeaning of women, reference to heather’s post. i’am not sure ladies that i want to vote for a man who’s wife waited for him while while he was a pow, then he decided to trade her in for a prettier, younger, and probably richer model.those actions are probably a better indicater of character than the statement:”you can put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig.”as i said in another post the today show showed john m. using the same quote in reference to hillary’s health care plan about a year ago.was that a sexist remark, i doubt it. so i have two months to ponder all these issues.

  79. A punch in the nose or a kick in the sack. Some choice. Both sides are just going to “change” the way they rape us in the ass. Were all f’ed either way. REAL change comes out of the barrel of a gun. Always has (end of a sword?) and always will.

  80. Too many people try to mistreat Palin like Hillary or Ferraro becasue they are outstanding femenine leaders.

The male world or Obama world is too prejudicial against women.

You must know that Paline saw Russia in the front line of the American territory. Alaska is oil rich land. Do you think Palin just saw the Russian land as a journalist saw there are nothing but small towns on the small islands and Russian desert coastal area.

Alaska is very important frontline which protects our mainland and our people. Palin’s observation on Russian frontline would rewake Russian leaders too. Becasue Russians discovered the American woman president is not a dummy.
