When Finger-Pointing Can Ricochet
Obama pointed out that Sarah Palin opposes equal pay for women, and that McCain does too, based on his opposition to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. And, even though McCain opposed that bill which would have overturned a Supreme Court decision limiting pay discriminattoin lawsuits. Obama said that McCain has a “clear record opposing equal pay” that “Palin is tasked with promoting.”
So what does the RNC do? They blame Obama for playing politics duirng a hurricane:
RNC spokesperson Alex Conant responded to Obama’s comments: “With Americans putting politics aside and preparing for Hurricane Gustav, it’s unfortunate that Barack Obama is continuing to put politics first and attack John McCain and Sarah Palin. If a natural disaster is not enough to convince Obama to ease off the political attacks, then what is?”
Does Conant know that while this was happening Karl Rove was giving a speech calling Joe Biden “a big, blowhard doofus”?

Or did Obama know that his supporter Alan Colmes is bringing up subjects that Obama himself said are off limits.
Still waiting for an apology Alan…

We’ll be waiting a long time for that apology. About as long as it takes Alan to come out of the closet. Didja hear he’s gay? I read it somewhere.
September 1st, 2008 at 3:49 pm
Karl Rove is, contrary to what you Libtards believe, NOT, running for President Alan.
And Joe Biden is a doofus. I mean that’s being kind. But I have to say, I love him for this little gem on his Messiah,”Sept. 2007 on Obama’s Iraq plan: “My impression is he thinks that if we leave, somehow the Iraqis are going to have an epiphany. I’ve seen zero evidence of that.” That’s the money shot.
As for Lilly Ledbetter…..”On average, women working in Obama’s Senate office were paid at least $6,000 below the average man working for the Illinois senator. That’s according to data calculated from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007. Of the five people in Obama’s Senate office who were paid $100,000 or more on an annual basis, only one — Obama’s administrative manager — was a woman.
McCain, an Arizona senator, employed a total of 69 people during the reporting period ending in the fall of 2007, but 23 of them were interns. Of his non-intern employees, 30 were women and 16 were men. After excluding interns, the average pay for the 30 women on McCain’s staff was $59,104.51. The 16 non-intern males in McCain’s office, by comparison, were paid an average of $56,628.83.”
Whoop, there it is!

First of all, it’s DOOFUS. Holy cow, you’re an idiot.
But I digress.
Does Colmes know what Karl Rove isn’t running for office?
Does Colmes know that the Fair Pay Act being discussed was invalid due to the statute of limitations? Heck, does Obama know?
P-shaw, what am I thinking? FACTS DON’T MATTER TO THESE GUYS.
Whups, got into those pesky little FACTS again, silly me.

C’mon Jenn, don’t confuse the libs with facts, they get angry when they can’t comprehend.

Alan,
Why you using WP for your blog, a rich man as yourself should be able to handle one that is not free. Talk about bad judgment.
Your account at Media Temple – are you using dpv Nitro?

Here we go again with you far left loons. Infact even the right. Why all the bickering and name calling about those who are running in this year election. Can’t we just listen to the candidates and judge for ourselves to whom we would vote for. Is a darn shame about what I read about Sarah Palin. It just doesn’t take long for someone to dig up the crap about her and her family. So what that her daughter pregnant. Its life and things like that happen. Leave the candidates alone and let them have there debates and question those debates. All I can say is, WHAT A WORLD WE LIVE IN
Thank you

Equal pay is a nice soundbite but a stupid argument.
First, different occupations have different pay. Because for years women did not attend college as frequently as men, they made less. Second, women are more likely to leave the work force than men to raise a family, have a child. When they re enter the workforce, they make less because they generally re enter in a different job, or if they enter in the same job, they can’t expect to make the same as people that continued to work while they didn’t.
The pay gap has narrowed in recent years because less women are leaving the work force, or they are staying in while they raise families. But the statistics that everyone cites in this argument are pretty skewed. They don’t add anything to the argument.
Women certainly have equal opportunity these days, even compared to 10-20 years ago. They make the same coming out of college. It is what happens while they are in the work force that accounts for the less pay, and when you compare the entire random sample of men versus women, the types of jobs that they do. You pay auto mechanics more than maids.

Joe, nor does it seem he has the common decency to apologize for his extremely poor judgment in attacking Sarah Palin’s judgment is such a slimy way. Sure, challenge her judgment (since that is all they have to stand on with Obama) but he has reached for the sky on this and pulled down classlessness personified.

‘Liberal’ Rottweiler is a euphemism. Liberal is just used instead of saying ‘neutered’ rottweiler.
September 1st, 2008 at 4:58 pm
I hear Republicans say all the time, I don’t like McCain, but, Obama would appoint liberal judges to the courts, so I have to vote for McCain for that ONE Reason: Republicans nominate conservative justices to the courts.
McCain voted for Ginsburg and Breyer… Which judges have Republican Presidents appointed?
Republican President Herbert Hoover appointed Charles Evans Hughes/ Chief Justice Hughes was assisted in supporting the vast expansion of federal power under FDR by two fellow GOP-appointed justices — Harlan Fiske Stone (nominated by Calvin Coolidge) and Benjamin Cardozo (nominated by Hoover). Republican President Dwight Eisenhower nominated Earl Warren as chief justice and William Brennan. Republican President Richard Nixon appointed Harry Blackmun to the Supreme Court. Republican President Gerald Ford appointed Justice John Paul Stevens. Republican super-hero Ronald Reagan appointed Sandra Day O’Connor and Anthony Kennedy to the Supreme Court. Republican President George H.W. Bush nominated David Souter.
So if you are a Republican and only voting for McCain because of the courts…. think again…

………………………………..
I have googled and googled, and I find from ONLY anti Obama sites:
“. On average, women working in Obama’s Senate office were paid at least $6,000 below the average man working for the Illinois senator. That’s according to ***data***
calculated from the Report of the Secretary of the Senate, which covered the six-month period ending Sept. 30, 2007. Of the five people in Obama’s Senate office who were paid $100,000 or more on an annual basis, only one — Obama’s administrative manager — was a woman.
Where ‘data’ is highlighted, but leads to “this page cannot be found”.
I cannot find this specifically. Senators DO get an allowance for their staff, but I can find nothing to indicate that he pays anyone less for the SAME job, and who in Obama’s or McCain’s offices, hire friends or cronies, (that they pay more).
They said that Pelosi had NO union workers in her vineyards, but a little digging revealed that NO workers in the Napa were union, because they ALREADY get higher salaries than the farm union employees, that Pelosi paid the HIGHEST saleries AND that she is NOT ALLOWED to speak of unions.
So, these blanket statements can be meaningless.
If he DOES pay women with the same qualifications less for the same job, then as liberals, we must hold his feet to the fire.
The biggest difference is that, if congress votes for equal pay, Obama will sign it, McCain will veto it.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Alan,
Show me a quote where Palin opposes equal pay for women. Because I read that when he was asked that question, he s;id backwards on the Palin statement. Please post a statement verifying Palin opposes equal pay.

As I type this, Wolf Blitzer of CNN just switched from a guy screaming that a levee was breaking to a speech by Laura Bush at the convention.
The man was trying to get people to evacuate.
So lets prioritize the news, Wolfie, we have a crisis here !
September 1st, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Last I checked, Alan wasn’t on Obama’s payroll. Nor are 100 other bloggers, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, ABC, NBC…
And he’s been pretty easy on her, considering the slew of sneering the girl’s gotten.

September 1st, 2008 at 7:41 pm
Alan,
Are you aware that, TO BE VP, Sarah Palin was informed early in her pregancy that her soon to be baby has Down Syndrome. They were counciled on the alternatives and it was decided to bring the child to full term. So please get your facts straight before writing what you may think happen or what others spout to you as truth……………. A woman’s water breaking can and does happen to many woman while they are out and about living life.
September 1st, 2008 at 8:14 pm
It is a distortion of fact to claim that a vote against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay act was a vote against equal pay for women.
The act sought to extend the time a person had to file a lawsuit to every time they were paid in a discriminatory manner, whereas current law provides that there is a 180 window from the time the individual first is discriminated against.
If, as an individual you do not realize during the first six months of your employment that you are not being paid properly – then that is your problem.
The other alternative is of course – quit and find another job.
September 1st, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Gee Nigel, are you thoroughly able to vet out your male and female coworkers within six months? Is there some kind of magical six month stamp that says if you were going to be discriminated against, it would have happened already?
Do you think everyone can just go and get a new job?
Do you have a problem with allowing women to sue their employers for discrimination?
Way to lower that glass ceiling, buddy.

Senator Obama is a lawyer and he is better versed in legal terminology than most. So he understands the difference wording makes. The Verbage in the Bill is what Senator McCain did not Support (as well as the time frame). Senator McCain Wanted the Bill to Read “Equal Pay for All People” Not “Equal Pay for women” This Verbage can from a legal standpoint be misconstrued and abused by allowing employers to make sure that women are only paid the same as other women. That was McCains Objection.
Senator Obamas statements regarding McCain & Palins Votes on this bill are Extremely distorted and self serving.

Alan:
The text of your blog follows my comment. Since you have taken it down there is now way to compare this text with what you had posted so you have, “plausible denial,” as to whether or not it is the same as what is presented. My observation: you claim in your rebuttal you are using her decision to get on a plane at such a time as a legitimate question of judgment. As a pro choicer you would need to take the stance this was her choice alone and not yours.
Smears can be accomplished in thug-like fashion i.e. your further left folks at the Daily “Bowel Movement” KOS or they can be of the subtle more murky type by inference – hypothetically – this is a rotten woman who does not care about her child in the womb but it will be stated as legitimate question of her judgment.
You are coming right out of the Saul Alinksy’s Rules for Radicals numbers 4,5 and 12. The more people that become aware of how Saul’s tactics are the bible for how the left conducts business the less effect it will have.
RULE 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules. (This is a serious rule. The besieged entity’s very credibility and reputation is at stake, because if activists catch it lying or not living up to its commitments, they can continue to chip away at the damage.)
RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)
RULE 12: Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)
The text of the blog:
“Rogers Cadenhead gives the timeline associated with the birth of her newest child. She had a speech in Dallas and, even after the water broke, continued with her activities, and then boarded a plane for home. She did consult by phone with her doctor. Still, a Sacramento, Calif., obstetrician who is active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said when a pregnant woman’s water breaks, she should go right to the hospital because of the risk of infection. That’s true even if the amniotic fluid simply leaks out, said Dr. Laurie Gregg.”

I pray for all of you who are destroying our country and has nothing better to do than attack the poor innocent children of Sen.Palin. Too bad you really cannot see the truth and it will be too late when you die, for we all at least once visit heaven, and don`t blame GOD for your final resting place in hell, God does not send people there you send yourself. God is a good God and HE ask us to choose life and and the truth, HE gives a choice to live as we feel. Don`t comment that your grandma died and why HE did not do anything, this is the world and it is run by evil and evil lives in half of the worlds people.Besides HE might be trying to get your attention to turn you around. You are terrible people to spread rumors and your also afraid of good people like sen. Palin, she`s gonna do this country some real good.
