A Welcome Correction

September 2nd, 2008, 7:58 PM EDT

For those of you who continue to believe the lies about what Alan said regarding Sarah Palin, consider this retraction of those claims.

From the conservative Media Research Center:

RETRACTION
“Alan Colmes never asserted that Sarah Palin caused her son’s condition”

ALEXANDRIA, VA – MRC President L. Brent Bozell:

“In my statement earlier today calling the media on the carpet for their treatment of Gov. Sarah Palin, I included a criticism of Fox News Channel’s Alan Colmes which was not true.

“On Saturday, Alan posted on his website an entry entitled ‘Did Palin Take Proper Pre-Natal Care,’ which questioned Gov. Palin’s actions and decisions at the time she went into labor with her last child. What it did NOT do was link these actions to her son’s Down’s syndrome, which was in my statement.

“I apologize unreservedly to Alan, an honest broker for whom I have the utmost respect and whose friendship I truly value.”

  2. For those right wingers who trash Alan….Someone told me you CANNOT comment on Rush Limbaugh’s site. I looked, and I sure can’t see that you can.

I’m not saying anything….I’m just saying.

  3. Here’s what Alan said — and then, like the liberal pussy that he is, removed it from the site. This was the day after McCain chose Palin, and immediately after the public revelation about Trig’s condition. Alan even quotes Rogers Cadenhead’s hit piece that was designed to make Palin look like some kind of whacko who doesn’t care about her baby. Go ahead and spin it all you want, Joel. Pretend these events are not connected. It’s utterly pitiful, and if you could see yourself objectively, you’d be ashamed. Alan’s text follows:

    ******************

Did Palin Take Proper Pre-Natal Care?
    August 30th, 2008, 9:54 PM EDT

Rogers Cadenhead gives the timeline associated with the birth of her newest child. She had a speech in Dallas and, even after the water broke, continued with her activities, and then boarded a plane for home. She did consult by phone with her doctor.

Still, a Sacramento, Calif., obstetrician who is active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said when a pregnant woman’s water breaks, she should go right to the hospital because of the risk of infection. That’s true even if the amniotic fluid simply leaks out, said Dr. Laurie Gregg.

  5. It doesnt matter what Alan said in detail, what matters most is the seriousness of the allegations. Calling Mrs Palin a criminal and saying she intentionally harmed her child was wrong for Alan to do and people got mad. So he got an apology but does the left EVER apologize? NEVER EVER!

  6. Alan, The Huffington Post is suggesting

wow, what a beacon of lies and misinformation, anyone who takes what Huffington says at face value takes a (etc)

  7. no dice! Alan lectured a woman on proper care for a fetus, obviously wishing she had just aborted the baby. This is not over by a long shot. As long as Alan Colmes is any kind of public figure, he is public enemy no. 1.

  10. disgusting little toad. Why did you redact that post? Coward

  11. I’m amazed that Hannity hasn’t called this turd faced scumbag out.

This dweeb would be looking for a job, preferably in a freaking walmart as a “Greeter” If had a say in it.

  12. Colmes is Anti-Christian bigot and a misogynist.

  13. Are the right wing wackos absolutely THE MOST thin skinned people?

After they have built careers saying the most hideous things, NOW they are on the fainting couch??

ALL you can do is laugh!

  14. There is quite a bit of hate-filled vile comments about Alan coming from the right wing (but, of course, that’s all they do).

  15. And they ALL sound like they’re twelve!

  16. Alan still should not have been questioning about her pre-natal care. It is not any of his business nor the business of the liberal tabloids. It was between her and her family and her physician. Alan has become one of the liberal hate promoters.

  17. I know you have heard this time and again Alan, but you do such harm to the vast majority of Americans who are not right wing nuts. You STILL don’t seem to recognize what a patsy you are on Hannity and Colmes and what a joke you are on Fox News. What harm you do as a “please walk all over me” Democrat. Sean Hannity winks at you and smiles while calling you – and anyone who doesnt see the world as narrowly as he does as essentially a communist, un-American, lilly-livered fool. Well he is right on the last one. PLEASE resign and let a Democrat with a spine take your seat. When Sean Hannity punches someone in the face – he needs someone to punch him in the face and break his legs, not say “thanks Sean may I have another.” Enough already.

  18. [...] has posted a retraction on his website, insisting he never posted what he posted.  Oh well. Unfortunately for Colmes, the [...]

  21. I really don’t like condemning whole sections of society to eternal damnation, so I’m noting down names and the ghastly untruths they spout so hatefully rather than making a wholesale exclusion order on Republicans – even those who don’t spontaneously vomit when Fox bears false witness with its ‘fair and balanced’ cynicism.

Dad and I don’t see eye to eye on everything, but we agree that we don’t need hateful jerks pretending to be our faithful followers.

  22. Keep on fighting the good fight, Alan!

  23. Keep on fighting the good fight, Alan!

what is this supposed to mean? your faithful followers? who is it that follows ‘you’?

  25. Alan, you are a human pinata. Face it, you are such a loser weasel, it is hilarious. Watching your squirrel-like appearance and hearing your monotone, mr. smooth intellect delivery on Hannity & Colmes makes me really want to vomit in your hair. Try running a comb through that mess, would you!?
I think you were the kid who got pushed down on the play ground routinely, you whiffed in kick ball and you were third string on the chess team. Hey, there’s some toilet tissue stuck to your shoe, Alan.
How do you have the nerve to call yourself a journalist. From which trash dump did Fox News find you? Oh, that’s right, you were a quota hire.
    I think

  26. Alan you’re Spinning like a top.

Your piece entitled “Did Palin take proper pre-natal care” implied that Governor Palin did not take proper pre-natal care by including some comments from medical professionals that she should have gone immediately to the emergency room.

The fact is that Governor Palin consulted with her doctor prior to taking the flight – and as I stated before – unless you are in possession of some information that she took actions contrary to the advise given by her doctor – your piece was uncalled for.

Why don’t you just do the right thing and apologize.

  27. Rush Limbaugh calls out Alan Colmes:

RUSH: Snerdley, you lost the bet. You lost the bet Friday. You lost the bet Saturday and Sunday. It’s even worse than what I predicted it would be. It is ten times worse than what I predicted it would be. I told you I predicted that they would get all over Sarah Palin for giving birth to a Down syndrome baby. It’s worse. They’re getting on her for flying on an airplane when she was pregnant. This is the greatest example of Drive-By Media I could give you, short of the definition. The Drive-By Media, running around wildly ruining people’s lives while we have to come along at the tail end of it and clean up the mess. Happy to do it, by the way.

RUSH: Here’s another way to explain what’s really going on here, ladies and gentlemen. The Beltway class, the Drive-By Media, elected Democrats, think tank liberals, career appointees in various bureaucracies, they see how popular the pick of Sarah Palin is with Republicans outside of Washington, with evangelicals, with people of conservative values, and there are a lot of them out there, and they’re in the heartland of America. There is nothing more dangerous to entrenched Washington power than a populist conservative who hasn’t adapted to Washington’s creature comforts. Now, the irony here to me, ladies and gentlemen, is that Obama is running change, but he’s promising only more power and money for Washington. If you want reform, if you want something really new, you’ve got it in Sarah Palin. Her record, her history of taking on a corrupt Republican machine in Alaska shows that she’s probably the more authentic change agent, if that’s what you’re after. If she succeeds as a national candidate, she could help McCain win. Even if she loses, she’s going to emerge as a major GOP figure in national politics for years to come. This is also why the Drive-Bys and the political classes are so eager to destroy her, not just discredit her, but to destroy her. It’s vicious; it is mean, because they know the stakes. They have been blindsided. They had no idea what was coming. They still don’t. As though they think they do.

Now, this morning on Fox, about 11:30 Eastern time, Bill Kristol was telling a story that a McCain staffer had shared with him. The McCain staffer had talked to Sarah Palin and had warned her of the intense scrutiny that she would be under. The McCain staffer told her to expect them to really come after her, no-holds-barred. She thanked the McCain staffer for the advice and then asked this question: Do you know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? The answer is lipstick. So I think, ladies and gentlemen, Sarah Palin is probably going to be the best person to defend Sarah Palin. I don’t think she’s intimidated by any of this. I don’t think she’s frightened by it.

  28. While I agree that Alan Colmes should have left anything about Palin’s pregnancy/birth of her child alone and let the extreme left websites muddy these waters, I believe that he was referring to the child’s health in general, and he was not suggesting in any form that it caused the baby’s Down Syndrome.

That being said, I don’t understand how his comments, even if misunderstood, are any worse than what the Republicans have been doing for years, to John McCain, and by John McCain.

    http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2004/03/21/the_anatomy_of_a_smear_campaign/

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11823_Page2.html

I completely agree that politician’s children should be off limits. There are plenty of things to attack any politician on, without having to resort to going after their families.

What I find funny though, is the hypocrisy by the Republicans. These are just 2 of the most famous examples of them going after a political rivals family members, which somehow was ‘fair game’ in their logic, but when Democrats do it, it is a horrible crime and they are taking the lowest of low roads. If families are off limits to Democrats, shouldn’t they be off limits to Republicans as well?

Just my 2 cents worth here, and probably not even worth that much.

  46. Alan: What I Said And What I Did Not Say
    September 1st, 2008, 2:31 PM EDT
First, what I did not say. I did not say that Sarah Palin caused her child to have Down Syndrome because of her choices. I have received comment after comment and received thousands of emails about this because of right-wing sites who have lied about my initial post, a screen grab of which is here: http://www.alan.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/alancolmes-sick.png
    +++++++++
Well gee Alan, why did you delete the post if you aren’t ashamed? Sorry, but this sure smells like a dog covering his $hit.

  47. Some astute poster said that Alan is bitter because he can’t get pregnant.

  48. There was no “public relevation” about Trig Palin.

We already knew. The prolifers have been talking about it all summer.

  49. It’s a shame that this website has been flooded by (I fear twelve year olds), who contribute nothing but insults and name calling.

I guess they got their marching orders.

This is why they are called “the flying monkey right”, after the witche’s flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz.

  50. Bush won SC in 200 by spreading rumors that McCain had gay sex in Hanoi and that his adopted child was the product of an interracial tryst. Everything that is happening to Palin pales in comparison.

  51. Keep trying to cover your disgusting post up, Alan. You have been exposed.

  52. “Keep trying to cover your disgusting post up, Alan. You have been exposed.”
    …………………………….

Not like the LOVELY Republican values:

Rush Limbaugh on the kidnapping of peace activists in Iraq: “I’m telling you, folks, there’s a part of me that likes this.” [The Rush Limbaugh Show

Former Reagan administration Secretary of Education Bill Bennett: "[Y]ou could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.” [Salem Radio Network’s Bill Bennett’s Morning in America,

Beck: “Cindy Sheehan. That’s a pretty big prostitute there, you know what I mean?”

Rush Limbaugh: “Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society.” [The Rush Limbaugh Show,

Coulter on Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-RI): “They Shot the Wrong Lincoln.”

Nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage: “That’s why the department store dummy named Wolf Blitzer, a Jew who was born in Israel, will do the astonishing act of being the type that would stick Jewish children into a gas chamber to stay alive another day.

Beck: “Blowing up Iran. I say we nuke the bastards. In fact, it doesn’t have to be Iran, it can be everywhere, anyplace that disagrees with me.”

  53. Alan would not have questionedmentioned pre-natal care, if not to draw the American people to conclude a tie to Downs syndrome. Why? Sarah Palin’s labor went just fine and there were NO issues with the birth. The extra chromosone was created at conception. So why was that the lead headline? Women everyday fly in the 7th 8th and 9th month of pregnancy, they also drive cars with airbags (much more risky). He along with other liberals are desperate to find what they perceive as weak spot. Try to make the woman feel guilty. Unfortunately, us women are educated and we know we do not control or are responsible for all of lifes events and yet we still must go forward!

  54. Somebody help me out here, where on Rush Limbaugh’s website do people get comment on his vile, disgusting, venom?

  55. I’m glad that Brent Bozell issued that correction. Alan Colmes never suggested in any way, shape or form that Palin’s decision to fly cross-country while in labor caused her son’s Down syndrome. Right-wing blogs that indicate otherwise are lying to their readers.

In my blog entry that Colmes linked, which sparked this controversy, I said that “the child was born healthy and it all worked out for the Palins.”

I’m tired of seeing people misrepresent what both of us wrote, which appears to be a cynical effort to drum up more sympathy for Palin and deflect from scrutiny of her judgment and McCain’s lack of vetting before her selection.

  56. Answer to OldLefty: No where.

You see, right-wingers don’t like it when anyone other than themselves are allowed to express an opinion. They don’t even like it when someone who thinks differently than them, expresses it on their own blog such as Alan. They don’t think it should be allowed. Here or anywhere. Not on the internet, not on radio, not on television, not in a movie, not in music, not in a university. No where.

Alan expresses a view about the possibility of pre-natal irresponsibility ON HIS BLOG and… it’s the end of the world. And then they come flying in. A swarm of right-wingers like locusts, salivating with rage, expressing the vilest and most hateful responses you can imagine. They spew forth with the comments and you can almost see the spit flying. The obscenities, the name calling, anti-semitism, the personal attacks on his looks, cracks about his wife and comments from people that wish he had been aborted or that he should die in a horrible accident. From the same people who claim to have better morals, better family values and a closer relationship to God and Jesus.

I see no morals, no values at all and no connection to God or Jesus from these disturbed hateful people.

They just can’t seem to handle not being able to control the entire world around them. And that’s pretty sad, because no matter how hard they try, they never will.

  57. Epiphany,

I looked at the limbuagh, and it seems that you have to pay to interact.

Those who don’t agree with him are VERY unlikely to pay….

    So you have ask:

What is he so afraid of?

  58. I am liberal and the comments that were posted were sexist and inappropriate. I expected better from Alan and would appreciate it if the media stuck to the issues for both the republicans and democrats alike. This election is getting very ugly already because of the media.

  59. The election isn’t “getting” ugly. It has BEEN ugly for the last year. I will not cry for Sarah Palin as Barack and Michelle Obama have had comments made against them and lies spread about them by others that make all this hoopla over Ms. Palin look like a sunny walk in the park.

I hope, Kristen, you find as much fault with the media over the Obama’s as you do with Ms. Palin.

  60. Do we think someone who cared for her newest born by having him in a crib in her Alaska governor’s office would take up nursery space in her office as vice president and function to a high level??? And, as any parent knows, our children are our priority. With just what has transpired in her observed family goings on so far, how could this person be representing our country as vice president? All this is just with a few days vetting by independents, give it a month and this all will be history and Buchanan will be sent back to anonymity. Yikes……

  62. Come on Alan – Show us Equality and ask the same questions of the men.

  65. Alan your accusation (rumor) that YOU have been spreading is that Palin did not get proper Prenatal care.

    Based on what is unknown.

If you know that prenatal care has nothing to do with Downs syndrome then why are you bringing it up?

The baby was diagnosed with Downs syndrome long before he was born.
It was reported in the AND, the article that you cropped the photo from.

That same article told you that the baby was born healthy, aside from Downs syndrome.

This FACT eliminates YOUR assertion (bogus hateful rumor) of improper prenatal care.

So Alan what was YOUR Goal, your OBJECTIVE, YOUR NEED, YOUR MOTIVATION to spread false hateful rumors?

A quote from someone I know you do not respect.

Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people.

Eleanor Roosevelt in her “I Am A Beautiful Old Person”

I hope your not spreading bogus rumors to bolster the bogus claim that she was not vetted. Do you have any idea how transparent that is?

Do you have any idea how sick that is?

BTW with 16 years of elected office in Alaska, she had been vetted, thoroughly, she deserves the respect of you not to spread gossip.

  66. Well I would assume that Ol’ElRushbo laid down the law today to all of the right wing talking heads. Today he opened his show announcing that he wasn’t going to talk about the left wing blogs. One would wonder if, perhaps, maybe, he spent some time actually reading the, especially this blog, slime and vitriol posted by his followers. Today, the blame was sent to the media by ElRushbo. The media is out to destroy Sarah Palin according to ElRushbo. Now, I am not bashing Sarah Palin, I wouldn’t vote for her ticket but, if this woman is ready to be the veep, shouldn’t she and all of her followers knows of the scrutiny to follow? Why all of the complaining from the right? This is the party who preaches hour and hour to the listener about having courage – don’t be afraid to get up from bench – work hard, work hard, work hard, don’t complain and keep going. Today I heard Glenn Beck actually begin shouting and lose his temper. Laura Ingraham was very angry. ElRushbo is livid. And I would venture to say many of the other talking heads are exhausted from their anger. Yet they preach – work hard – just keep on working hard to the listener who is struggling to put gas in their car. Why aren’t they preaching “yes this election is hard work” but, that’s the way life
is in the USA. Why aren’t they saying we are enjoying this hard work instead of all of the complaining? And while they are complaining about hard work why don’t they take on Neal Boortz who took on a low and easy road less than 48 hours after Hurricane Charley by expressing his belief in gouging people for ice, food, bottled water and other such needed supplies? Sean Hannity expressed his disdain for price gouging yet, I have yet to hear him mention Neal’s indiscretion on H&C. But, I do believe if a liberal and gone on the air and pushed this agenda – Sean would have had a hissy fit on H&C and would have played the tape over and over and over of the event.

  67. Alan,
Why would you bring up questions about her prenatal care. Of course you would not come out and say it directly, but you paint a pretty picture don’t you? You sure intended to raise that question in peoples minds. Remind me again what that has to do with the vice presidency? I may have disagreed with you alot, but at least I respected you.
