GOP Hearts Gustav
Because it’s good for McCain, delegates say. Take Matthew Wallace, from Shreveport, LA, who, when asked if Gustav helps, says:
“I think so. I think it’s a way for Senator McCain to showcase his experience and his talent to the country — that when it’s 3 a.m. and you have that national crisis, who do you want picking up that phone?”
Wally Naylor an African-American delegate from Mississippi praises his Republican governor Hayley Barbour’s handling of Katrina but slams Louisiana:
“They had a Democratic governor and a Democratic mayor. They just blamed the president, and the best I know, it wasn’t his fault.”
Uh, it was a national disaster, which is why FEMA was called in. And New Orleans has the same Democratic mayor now that they had then. But Barbara Thornburn of Texas echoes Naylor’s sentiments:
“Because the leadership of Louisiana was Democratic last time, they didn’t want help. So when it got to be a big problem, then they wanted to blame it on us. That’s what I think happened.”
And Thornburn loves Sarah Palin even more now for having a pregnant teenage daughter while preaching abstinence:
“Oh, wow: We love her. She is perfect!” And the daughter? “You know, kids get into trouble, families handle it.”
But doesn’t this hurt her abstinence message?
“No. We teach our kids, and sometimes they don’t do what we teach…You tell them you love them, we make mistakes.”
Very forgiving. Unless the person making the mistake is a Democrat.

The coming hurricane of change will cleanse this nation of the Malkin crowd.

Her daughter is a walking testimony as to how the very abstinence education she promotes, has failed abysmally.
Hell, it turns out the GOP is so conservative, it’s liberal. Whereas I’m apparently so liberal, I’m conservative (conserve the environment, conserve accidental and unwanted pregnancies, conserve resources, conserve spending, and conserve gun rights to preserve the rights-to-life of the already-born).
Are you kidding me?! “We make mistakes” is how this Republican stooge explains away Bristol Palin’s irresponsible impregnation by that admitted-redneck who DOESN’T WANT KIDS?
September 2nd, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Apparently they DO actually believe, “A Child is Not a Choice.” They’re amending their slogan to, “A Child IS A MISTAKE.”
So lovely. The Neocons just SO love children. Make that girl have a kid, then kick her off welfare! They can “pass the hat” at that girl’s church, just like one of Newt Gingrich’s wives had to do because he wouldn’t pay child support!
September 2nd, 2008 at 5:26 pm
“Very forgiving. Unless the person making the mistake is a Democrat.”
I’d forgive my daughter for being a Democrat.
“admitted-redneck” And here I thought liberal, urban elitist was something to “admit” to.

Alan lay off!! If this were Chelsey you’d be screaming lay off! This child is loved. The baby will be loved. Why aren’t you supporting a very young girl who is about to become a mother A gift from God! She chose to have give birth to this gift from God and I know you want no part of causing them pain to any of them. Being cute and using debators tricks will not excuse you. Always remember, nobody gets away with anything that includes YOU!
September 2nd, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Stop this political B.S. at the expense of a teenager. It’s time to think of the pain you , YOU are inflicting on a young lady who will give birth to a baby. Why don’t you pick on the adults and their policies. No pick on a 17 year old young woman. Talk about where the Demicratic women stand when it comes to teen age women and babies. You spineless jellyfish. You all feel good bashing a new mommy? Do that put a favorable light on Demecratic women. Keep up the good work you will eventually kick women hard enough to wake them up to which party actually does care about preganet woman, mothers and babies.

Barbara Thorburn, a delegate from Guadalupe County, Texas…”I don’t think if there’s flooding we ought to do anything different” after Monday. …”Whatever people are going to do, they should not expect people to come in and bail them out.”
Another compassionate conservative telling us we’re on our own. Because if we ever get in a situation we can’t handle by ourselves we must be lazy and stupid and just waiting around for a hand-out.
September 2nd, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Barack Obama said it best on last thursday, (possibly paraphrasing a bit) “Can’t we all agree that we need less unwanted pregnancies in this country?” I agree with that statement and like it or not a pregnant teenage daughter brings that issue in the spot light. Sorry but if personal family matters could be kept private we wouldn’t know Mitt Romney is a mormon, Obama’s church wouldn’t have come up, Mary Cheney wouldn’t be a known Lesbian and Patty Duke wouldn’t have gotten a deal from Playboy, and where would the world be like without Billy Beer. The truth is like it or not families are a part of the campaign process, they go on the stops, make speeches, and are critiqued. Agree with it or not that’s the reality. The two questions that need to be answered even in this private affair I think are… 1) Did McCain properly vet Palin? and 2) Where does she stand on issues that affect her family? Both are fair questions and whatever those answers are will help to make a decison if Sarah Palin is a qualified VP.

If there was ever a reason to abort a baby, just take a look at Alan Colmes! I’ll bet the doctor spanked his mother when that frog faced idiot was born.
September 2nd, 2008 at 6:15 pm
Jesus heard you say that, Pooter. He says he doesn’t want you coming to his place any more.
September 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 pm
Alan, your analogies suck. Just say what you and the rest of the left wing dingbats want to say, that Sarah Palin’s daughter should kill (i.e. abort) the fetus. Then she would be applauded by the left.
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Alan: You’re a scumbag for abusing this teenager like you are… for YOUR political gain. what sad sad man you are.
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:18 pm
It seems these right wingers are obsessed with killing babies. Not THAT’s sad. It’s a real shame they aren’t as concerned about the welfare of our troops.

“She chose to have give birth to this gift from God”
Have you ever been to a biology class. Let me give you a quick reminder
Reproduction involves a complex series of events. Here’s the very short version…
To start a pregnancy, only one sperm out of the millions produced needs to get deep inside a woman’s body to find one warm, moist egg. They join to form a fertilized egg, which attaches itself to the wall of the woman’s uterus, where it can grow and develop into a baby over the course of 40 weeks.
That’s a pretty amazing sequence of events, don’t you think? But, I don’t see any mention of some old white guy with a big fluffy beard getting involved. I mean i presume your god is white and has a fluffy beard. Or am i getting confused with Santa?
Oh, out of curiosity what do you mean by this very vague statement below? I love a person who uses cap to emphasis a POINT
“Always remember, nobody gets away with anything that includes YOU!”

Hey Levi will be among many other f—- rednecks at the convention tonight. Enjoy each other.
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:51 am
BHAN– Apparently THIS child isn’t a “gift from God”– According to Thornburn, it’s a “mistake.” Incidentally, it’s not the Democratic Party that wants to limit accessibility to birth control, abolish abortion, AND kick women and children off welfare. That would be YOUR party.
Tom Hanna– I love how you can’t bring yourself to address the other, more salient points in my post. You just concentrate on the “redneck” part. Well, excuse me– I might enjoy drinking Busch light, smoking cigarettes, trout-fishing and listening to Jerry Reed (RIP, Snowman!), but I don’t want one of my kind in the White House, much less impregnating the VP’s daughter.
RC– I cannot WAIT until my congresswoman comes to our area again, to urge us to do what we can to get ready for the next earthquake. I’m unloading both barrels on her. I PAY TAXES so that when I and my fellow state citizens are incapacitated, WE GET HELP when we need it! Or WHY are we paying for FEMA?

As you say “Reproduction involves a complex series of events”. Thank you for sharing the miracle of birth to me. Only a genius, a scientific mind like yours could have provided me with so much obvious information. It amazes me that people like you seemingly miss the forest for the trees. Yep, you are right it isn’t the hand of God – it is a series of coincidences and random probability that produces life. We come from nothing, made of nothing and we aren’t going anywhere. Left wing Librial scientific junk science at its finest.
Sarah,
Exactly, Conservative people think a baby should not be destroyed by people who think it an inconvenient to have a baby. Liberals find it much easer to just chop it up and flush the “problem” away. It all about me, me, me, I want, I need, and I can’t. No thought goes to others, not even a baby. So you get to choose your party. They will help you sleep at night. Pleasant dreams. It’s especially comfortible on the day that would have been your babies birthday. I hope you live a very long life.
September 3rd, 2008 at 4:24 pm
BHAN, don’t pretend you even give a damn about expectant mothers. Palin acted to “slash funding that would have provided needy teen mothers with a place to live,” did you get that?
And you’re right, I am about me, me, me. I’m sick of paying for the disastrous results that stem from unwanted children being born and not raised responsibly– our education, prison system, and welfare rolls are groaning with those who will die a slow, painful, agonizing, miserable death– but not before they continue the chain of pain by having more kids.
But I’m not so selfish as to saddle someone with a kid they can’t take care of, like you are.
Your position of being anti-abortion is more selfish than you know. Especially if you’re not doing your part outside this blog, and adopting a child, raising a foster kid, and helping out with other needy-child organizations.
I hope you sleep well at night, BHAN. You think the church will step in? Not when it’s filled with parisioners, led by ministers, who think of “me, me, me,” and vote to build super-buildings instead of houses for the poor, for example.
I invite you to wake up, and start looking at the whole picture, BHAN.
September 3rd, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Sarah, We had our son at seventeen. My mom was sixteen. I can talk about that expierance because I had it! I can also speak about the alturnitive because my sister decided not to have it. Many people struggle. That’s what we remember the most. Those tough times are what we love most about where we are today.
Suit up and show up and grow up. Tough times make us better people. Unless we whine and fall into self pity. This country provides for its people. Church, volunteers, government all help those who help themself. God works through other people but we must put in the footwork. Throwing in the towl or a unborn baby is a complete cop out in fact it is the worst case of selfishness, and self centerness. As you say, ” And you’re right, I am about me, me, me.” What a small world you live in.
September 3rd, 2008 at 5:54 pm
BHAN, the “small world” I live in is not nearly as small as your brain, and I pity you for that.
I’ll not pretend to congratulate you for accidentally conceiving a child, any alley cat can do that.
And I’ll thank you to spare me the violins and dramatics about “suffering builds character,” like we should all be masochists and vote for Republican “more of the same,” when our nation is at war, our economy is in the toilet, teen pregnancy is epidemic and health care is outrageous.
You obviously don’t think teen pregnancy is a problem because you HAVE been part of the problem, as well as your mother (these things have been shown to be generational).
This country may “provide for its people”– but that’s not the case for a significant percentage of the population. And when it DOES “provide for its people,” there are plenty in the GOP screaming about it.
As for churches– maybe they’re more altruistic and active in your area. I live in the Bible Belt, and mostly what I see are wannabe missionaries who ask us all to give them money so they can go on a self-righteous mini-vacation. Or, they’re trying to build a gym. Or, they’re sending their youth groups to Walt Disney World. When they’re not bitching about having to give charity to a precious few of our local downtrodden.
So while you’ve written a beautiful post (I can almost hear the national anthem being played as you wrote it), I think I’ll opt for realistic practicalities, and stick with what I’ve observed.
1) Teen pregnancy should be prevented at all costs. It’s taking a toll on our school systems, our elderly, and the welfare system.
2) Birth control should be extremely inexpensive, accessible, and available to everyone, without parental consent.
3) Norplant should be created for men, and marketed to teen boys.
4) Adoption should be easier and cheaper (and all anti-abortionists should be required to adopt at least one, although that’s pie-in-the-sky, I realize– because the truth is, “pro-lifers” just want kids born, not raised)
5) Sex education should include information on all available forms of contraception.
6) Because nothing’s foolproof, abortion should remain legal.

Sarah,
With that burst of genius from you half of American demarcates would have or will be dead. Perhaps you are right. Come to think of it that a great idea. Now I see the logic in your thinking. Oh and by the way your personal attacks wound me deeply. I bet you had your two year old think up such deep intelictual insults. I haven’t used lines like that since grade school. I really don’t think we need do this any more you have summed up all the answers in your amazingly insightful list of six. Did you think that up all by your self. Wow! I bet your proud of that. Do me a favor and send it to B. Hussein Obama. Hopefully he will use it too. Great stuff! Lets pray to God he uses it.
