Palin’s Jeremiah Wright?

September 2nd, 2008, 7:19 PM EDT

Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Lisa Murkowski receive a blessing from Pastor Ed Kalnins in June 2008.

Many Republicans are salivating at the thought of continuing their guilt-by-association games all the way through the November 4 election. Rush Limbaugh spoke for a lot of them when he said recently, “Folks, about October this country is going to be saturated with Jeremiah Wright video and audio.  Oh, you know it will resurface.  We’ve already got it on our calendar here.”

But before right-wingers relaunch that smear campaign, perhaps they should take a close look at Sarah Palin’s own former religious leader, Pastor Ed Kalnins.

According to The Huffington Post today, Pastor Kalnins…

• Preached that critics of President Bush will be banished to hell

• Questioned whether people who voted for Sen. John Kerry in 2004 would be accepted to heaven

• Charged that the 9/11 terrorist attacks and war in Iraq were part of a war “contending for your faith;” and said that Jesus “operated from that position of war mode.”

Wright got in a lot of trouble for saying “G-D America.” Palin’s pastor seems to have said almost the same thing – only he was nice enough to limit it to just the Democrats in America:

During the 2004 election season, he praised President Bush’s performance during a debate with Sen. John Kerry, then offered a not-so-subtle message about his personal candidate preferences. “I’m not going tell you who to vote for, but if you vote for this particular person, I question your salvation. I’m sorry.”

Months after hinting at possible damnation for Kerry supporters, Kalnins bristled at the treatment President Bush was receiving over the federal government’s handling of Hurricane Katrina. “I hate criticisms towards the President,” he said, “because it’s like criticisms towards the pastor — it’s almost like, it’s not going to get you  anywhere, you know, except for hell. That’s what it’ll get you.”

I’m not sure excactly where the road to Hell is,  so I’m always impressed with people who know the directions.

Responses to this post...

  1. Rev Wright is coming out with a book in Oct.

You idiots are in such a frenzy and shock because you lost the election you’re going to blow your wad too soon.

  2. Kalnins is an absolute moron.

  3. If there is video of this nice godfearing preacher, I hope, that it is played over and over and over again.

  4. Rev wright preached hate at his church for the 20+ years that obamaisah attended, befriended, had his kids baptised by, mentor – protege relationship with.. etc

Wright is an embarrasment to the Black Community and humans in general, just like you lying alan.

    …………………………

That’s funny because McCain’s pick was seen as panic over Obama’s acceptance speech.

Krauthammer’s puzzled, Peggy Noonan is outraged.

    We love it!

  7. Ol ElRushbo. I heard that man bash Obama today. Rush was a man in his late 40’s early 50’s who was addicted to oxycontin for six years. He made no move to get help for the addiction until he was caught. This is a man who had been pulling in millions for years. He certainly had the means to seek help for the addiction. However, today the honorable Rush bashed Obama with hatred becasue Obama told the truth, in his book, about taking drugs during his teen-age years.

Why wasn’t Rush bashing Bristol Palin today? He sure bashed Obama for taking drugs – for taking drugs when he surely wasn’t running for a public office – Obama was seventeen/eighteen years old. I remember how the right wingers demanded the public to show Rush mercy and sympathy when he was exposed to being a drug addict.

If Bristol Palin were an unknown poor unwed pregnant teen-ager – the right would look down their noses at the girl. It’s all about money and power with the Repubs. BTW, I have not bashed Bristol Palin in this blog. And furthermore – long ago, I was a young pregnant teen.

  8. If we leave the country to the Right Wing loonies you’ll might as well move to Iran to find freedom again.

  9. Alan, are you also hoping that Palin smoked crack cocaine while receiving oral sex from Larry Sinclair in the back of limo in 1999, while a married state senator? Keep searching Alan, you may find something?

And you’ve never answered my question: How many abortions have you had the ‘good’ judgment to pay for?

  10. Barack HUSSEIN Obama will be your next president.

    Obama/Biden 08

  11. If Obama wins, he will be Impeached.
If Obama loses, he will be Indicted.

    Spare the Country
    Vote for Indictment

  12. Barack’s Sarah Palin?

Biden’s Son Caught Up in Hedge Fund Troubles
    August 25, 2008, 8:34 am

A son and a brother of Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware are accused in two lawsuits of defrauding a former business partner and an investor of millions of dollars in a hedge fund deal that went sour, The Washington Post reported, citing court records.

The Democratic vice presidential candidate’s son Hunter, 38, and brother James, 59, meanwhile say it was they who were defrauded by their former partner, whom they have accused of misrepresenting his experience in the hedge fund industry, The Post said.

According to the legal skirmishes, which have been playing out in New York State Supreme Court since 2007, Anthony Lotito Jr. said that he agreed to help set up Paradigm Companies, a hedge fund group for the Bidens, because the V.P. nominee was concerned on how his son Hunter’s lobbying activities would reflect on his campaign.

Hunter Biden was made president of the firm, earning with an annual salary of $1.2 million, according to the lawsuit. However, in an affidavit, Hunter Biden said his father had nothing to do with the deal and that it is Mr. Lotito who swindled the Bidens, The Post said.

  13. Clearly Joe Biden is disqualified for VP because his son is implicated in fraud.

This must mean that Joe Biden is a hypocrite if he says he’s pro-obeying the law.

This is a DISASTER for the Democrats. The Party will disintergrate and all media reporters will become conservatives.

    =====

I am kidding of course. Biden’s son is his own person and his independent actions have no bearing on Joe Biden..

But if we use the hateful Leftist “logic” then Joe is just as guilty

    right, Alan, you hypocrite prick?

  14. You can criticize the President if you know what you are talking about because you know what you did. You can criticize a Pastor if you know what he did too. Groping our kids is wrong if the President or a Pastor does it. Lying about 9-11 is wrong and “Reading My Pet Goat” to kids doesn’t make the truth go away. The Pastor who criticizes a President isn’t wrong and one who embraces the evil isn’t guaranteed a spot in Heaven just because he doesn’t know what was done. God will fill him in on his way down.

  15. Republicans tout Governor Sarah Palin’s experience as commander-in-chief of the Alaska National Guard as preparation to be commander in chief of the United States.

Let me tell you what a Governor who is commander-in-chief does — or more accurately, does not do. She does not command.

I was commander-in-chief of the Vermont National Guard when I was governor of Vermont from 1985 to 1991. I flew in a helicopter when I visited the troops at Camp Drum where they were doing their summer training each year. I attended ceremonial events and had my picture taken with the troops, just like Governor Palin. That was it.

I had zero authority over the troops. I even tested my power during my term of office when I objected to the Vermont National Guard being sent to Honduras for training. I was responding to many of my constituents who objected to the guard being deployed there because they feared it would heighten U.S. participation in the strife in Nicaragua.

I was promptly told, “No way.” To make certain that no Governor tried to be “commander-in-chief” of the national guard the Congress passed a law in 1987, called, the Montgomery amendment which states “that a governor cannot withhold consent with regard to active duty outside of the United States.” In 2007, governors’ powers were whittled down further by the John Warner Defense Administration Act: “the Governor of a state is no longer the sole commander-in-chief of the National Guard during emergencies within the state. The President of the United States will now be able to take control of a state’s National Guard units without the governor’s consent.”

Governor Palin may have some qualities that would enable her to perform as Vice President, but being commander-in-chief of the Alaska National Guard is not one of them.

  16. “FORMER religious leader”.
    ‘Nuff said.

  17. There’s a common thread throughout this whole wacky pastor thing.

    (They’re all insane.)

  18. so it’s ok to badmouth Bidens’ son, but to even suspect Palins’ daughter is pregnant we get yelled at to shut up?

  19. Kalnins? That freak? He did give us a few laughs, but have no fear – he’s off to Hades just as quick as we can kick him!

  20. ANON: Your statement has false premises.

    - The issue isn’t about the behavior of particular individuals. The issue is, does the behavior of one’s child have any relevence to the political process as it relates to the parents.

    - Biden’s son is an adult, Palin’s daughter is minor and common deceny (which the Left detests) dictates to leave them out of public humiliation

    - One allegation is that of crime, the other is of conduct that is really no one’s business other than the family’s invovled.

    Therefore, your statement is rejected.

  21. so if its Palin’s “Jeremiah Wright” then its a very bad thing worthy of condemnation.

but if its the racist bigoted evil antiChristian the false Rev Jeremiah Wright of the false church of black racism spouting anti American hate? making friends with terrorist groups?

then you liberals are okay with it. incredible hypocrisy, but then you libs cant debate facts and issues; then expect to be taken seriously?

  22. Sarah Palin made the choice to accept the nomination, being fully aware that she would put her daughter in this situation.

The issue (not her daughter)is being criticised based on the fact that she holds this “holier than thou, vote for me because I represent what is lacking in this country – conservative family values, I vehemently oppose sex education and support abstinence only programs because if parents raised their kids right it would not be a problem” mentality.

When she holds those viewpoints and knows that her unwed, teenage, daughter is pregnant when she accepts the nomination – then in my opinion, Sarah Palin is placing her daughter in a situation that will be questioned and talked about.

I see nothing wrong with people discussing (and even critizing) her viewpoints in relation to the situation with her daughter. It’s a valid argument. You know damn well, that if it wasn’t her daughter that was the unwed, pregnant, teenager and someone would ask her why she thinks situations like this occur – she would place the blame on bad parenting and the lack of conservative family values. That is what the issue is.

That being said, I (along with Alan and many other people) have not said one negative, judgmental word about Bristol Palin. I know some have, that is unfortunate. I feel bad for Bristol, but I don’t feel bad for the Republicans for having to listen to this – knowing if this would be a Democrats daughter, she would be treated worse.

Of course now I will expect the rebuttal “no, they would just abort it” comment which would just prove my point.

  23. Danielle: Maybe you want to try to prove she an attitude.

    Where is your evidence?

You digusting destroyers of innocent teen-agers are the ones Holier than Thou.

  24. I’m not surprised that she would have this type of pastor. She’s really proven to be a far right nutjob.

But this doesn’t really matter any more than Jeremiah Wright matters to Obama. I’m not going to have a double standard on the issue. If Obama doesn’t necessarily agree with everything his pastor says, then there’s no reason to believe that Palin does either.

  25. How exactly did I destroy Bristol Palin’s life?

I’m not sure what you’re asking me in the first line.

  26. Sarah is a great pick and brings strength to the McCain ticket.

  27. Sarah Palin loved her daughter so much that she didn’t burden her for life as the reason she did not accept the vice-presidency. All Americans see the libs and their media trying to destroy Palins’ daughter in order to destroy her mother and they are sickened and rightfully outraged about it. Btw, I look forward to watching little Trig grow up in the White House.

  28. Does anybody read Alan’s blog anyway? I’m only here because I was tipped to his disgusting comments by another, far-more-interesting website host.

  30. To Just Wondering, the reports I’ve read said that the two had been high school sweethearts for about a year and were talking of marriage before they knew she was pregnant.
It’s hard for those of us from urban and suburban areas to understand the way things happen in small-town America. It is very common for kids to marry their high school sweethearts.
Judging this situation by big-city standards will leave us confused and frustrated.

Only for laughs. Seriously, it’s kind of like rubber-necking at a traffic accident. You look over & you can only say “poor son of a bitch”.

  33. It’s worse than that. This church believes in (among other things) “speaking in tongues,” separate parts of the Bible for Jews, literal interpretation (of what’s left), “rapture” apocalyptic theology and miracle healing. They are extremely out of the mainstream, even by Fundamentalist standards. And that’s more than mere religious quibbling.

Sarah Palin attends another Assembly of God church in Juneau. The AoG “fundamental tenets” are the same on the national denominational website as they are on the Wasilla AoG site.

It’s a worldview comparable with one of those headlines “Child dies after parents refuse treatment for religious reasons.”

And, remember, “Rev. Wright” was made fair game, so what’s sauce for the goose …

Some context (from 46 hours ago): “God Swill”

    http://hisvorpal.wordpress.com/2008/08/31/god-swill/

“The liberal soul shall be made fat, and he that watereth, shall be watered also himself.”
    – Proverbs 11:25

  34. The Assembly of God church here in Chicago does great work for people with broken lives… no wonder the left hates it.

  35. Alan.
You are the biggest hypocrite on the planet. On tonights H&C, you said that Jeremiah Wright is irrelevant to the Obama campaign, and that it shouldnt be brought up. But here, you are bring up Sarah Palin’s pastor. What gives? Shouldnt her pastor be irrelevant?

Just like liberals…….Its only ok, if its your point of view!!
Your a hyprocite, and your columns have become increasingly trashy with your attacks on Palin. I have lost all respect for you. I hope Sean replaces you with Kirsten Powers. Because no one tunes in to watch you.

  36. If you look at the video, you will see Sarah “preaching” that OIL IS GOD’S WILL FOR ALASKA.

“Video: Palin says that drilling is God’s plan. So is dying in Iraq. And she follows pastors who believe Alaska will be a refuge from the antichrist.”

Yeah, THAT’s a reliable and objective source.

  38. >>>Btw, I look forward to watching little Trig grow up in the White House.<<<

You won’t get to watch him grow ALL the way up. He’ll only be 16 years 9 months when he has to leave…8 years with Mom as VP, 8 years with Mom as president.

How come we haven’t been hearing about this 24/7? I guess if it’s a Democrat, it’s not a scandal.

  40. Alan, are you capable of REAL journalism without being petty, rude, juvenile, snide or irrelevant? Gosh, I don’t think so!

  41. Buckaroo John, you said ” I was responding to many of my constituents who objected to the guard being deployed there because they feared it would heighten U.S. participation in the strife in Nicaragua.

So does that mean or imply that you were opposed to President Reagan defending the USA from communism? that you were deeply offended by the effort to stop the Soviet deployment of nukes in central America?

And to hide from taking responsibility yourself for the communist, anti American agenda you simply said well its what my constituents wanted, Im just a figurehead… ?

I mean lets face it, back then a person either supported the opposition to communists in Niceragua or supported the opposition to Reagan and said yes to communism, yes to Castro, yes to brutal dictatorship…

With all due respect, Im not accusing you of being a communist who hates America, but am saying your comment gives that appearance and I wanted to first aks you if its what you openly believe and agree to, or if you think and believe something else.

  42. My first time to this site was the outrageous charge that some dr somewhere that Alan dug up knew better than Palin’s personal physician what his patient should do. That got sooooooooo much traffic here. Look at the pitiful number of traffic he has here on other things. This will be my last time here. I do not want to add to his numbers and make this thing look successful.

  43. Does Rush Limbaugh this kind of forum…..for free, that is?

  44. The right wingers who post here are in their usual howl mode. How dare we bring up her preacher! She didn’t sit in the pew for 20 years! blah blah. Meanwhile, I continue to smile at the latest polling data. Go Palin!

Eddysmom is correct– it is very common, just like it also FAR TOO COMMON THAT THEY LATER DIVORCE.

Unfortunately, not before they have a bunch of kids together.

I wonder, if they were engaged/about to be engaged/thinking about getting engaged, why they didn’t just get married, say….3-4 months ago.

I’d also like to know why Levi said he doesn’t want kids, and here’s Bristol, getting knocked up by him.

  49. “And you’ve never answered my question…”

Your question has to rate a minimum 67 IQ before Alan considers making a response.

“are you capable of REAL journalism…”

If you knew anything about Alan, you would know he has consistently maintained that he is NOT a journalist. He is a radio talk show host and a TV personality. Try learning something about your target before you starting hurling baseless accusations.

“I’m only here because I was tipped to his disgusting comments by another, far-more-interesting website…”

Ya, we all know about Michelle Malkin’s Hot Air blog, which is closed to new regisration and apparnetly run by cowards who can’t handle contrary opinions.

    “Rev wright preached hate…”

You’re talking hate. Wright has it right.

  51. The issue with Obama is he is gullible — not guilt by association. For 20 years, by his own admission, he did not know that Wright harbored ill will to America. Recall Wright: “Gad damn America”.

And what did Obama say about the man he called his great adviser? “This man is not the man I’ve knew for last 20 years”. But the tapes were of Wright over 20 years. So he was fooled, over-and-over: Wright, Flagger, Ahyers, and Rezko.

Can we afford a president who is gullible? Can we afford a president who will meet with world leaders when he himself is so easily deceived and over long, long periods? Even by men who harbor anti-American sentiments and make divisive comments like Flagger’s?

So the issue isn’t guilt-by-association. It’s worst. It points out a major character flaw that we cannot afford in a president, not in these times.

After 14 years of this hate/worship he loved it so much that he had his daughter baptized into it. As you can see in the tape everyone is dancing in the isle and praising the hate. 59. I think the right-wingers need to take their blinders off.
It it is “good for the goose it is good for the gander”.
    Turn about is “fair play”.

Obama was sitting in church for “every single” sermon of Wright’s just like Palin was sitting in church for “every single” sermon of Kalnin’s.

Anyone can take one or two sermons out of context. The republicans are the “masters” at it.
