Sarah Palin: Iraq War A “Task From God”

September 4th, 2008, 12:46 AM EDT

Just three months ago,  Sarah Palin addressed the graduating glass of her former church, the Wasilla Assembly of God, headed by her own Jeremiah Wright,  Ed Kalnins (And you’ll be hearing more about him).

Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.

Far be it from me to know what God’s plan is for any particular pubic policy, but apparently Governor Palin’s powers of divination are much better than mine.

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

But it’s not just the Iraq war where Palin believes God has a plan for her to implement:

…she’d work to implement God’s will from the governor’s office, including creating jobs by building a pipeline to bring North Slope natural gas to North American markets.

“God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that,” she said.

“I can do my job there in developing our natural resources and doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded,” she added. “But really all of that stuff doesn’t do any good if the people of Alaska’s heart isn’t right with God.”

Oh, and do you want to know about some of the sermons Palin sat through from the time she was a teenager until she left the church in 2002?

The section of the church’s Web site where videos of past sermons were posted was shut down Wednesday, and a message was posted saying that the site “was never intended to handle the traffic it has received in the last few days.”

Too much web traffic? Or a fear that Democrats will traffic in a Jeremiah Wright-type DVD of Ed Kalnins’ geatest hits?

  1. Just one problem. This is a fake plant by the Daily KOS. Your liberals are desparate and terrified of a strong conservative woman. No liberal can stand up and have an adult debate on the merits of an issue. So they lie, cheat and name call. As a Christian, I will pray for you and your forgiveness.

  2. As a non christian, go suck on a bible…

  3. Why should liberals be afraid of another hateful Republican? Scare your way into the White House….

  4. Woohoo for reporting this!

Don’t forget the articles in which her pastor also called Palestinian attacks on Israels “judgement” for not believing in Christ Jesus.

Just two weeks ago she was at this sermon:

“An illustration of that gap came just two weeks ago, when Palin’s church, the Wasilla Bible Church, gave its pulpit over to a figure viewed with deep hostility by many Jewish organizations: David Brickner, the founder of Jews for Jesus.
Palin’s pastor, Larry Kroon, introduced Brickner on Aug. 17, according to a transcript of the sermon on the church’s website.
“He’s a leader of Jews for Jesus, a ministry that is out on the leading edge in a pressing, demanding area of witnessing and evangelism,” Kroon said.
Brickner then explained that Jesus and his disciples were themselves Jewish.
“The Jewish community, in particular, has a difficult time understanding this reality,” he said.
Brickner’s mission has drawn wide criticism from the organized Jewish community, and the Anti-Defamation League accused them in a report of “targeting Jews for conversion with subterfuge and deception.”
Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God’s “judgment of unbelief” of Jews who haven’t embraced Christianity.”

    http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/palins-pastor-a.html

She’s also a friend of Pat Buchanan and supported him TWICE for President. Hmmmm…

    http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2553

Some more from her pastor’s friend (whom her church raised money for) and their “Jews for Jesus” crap:

Brickner also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God’s “judgment of unbelief” of Jews who haven’t embraced Christianity.

“Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It’s very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can’t miss it.”

  5. She left that church in 2002. When did Barack Obama leave Trinity United Church of Christ?

  6. Comments are now moderated??

  7. She goes back to that Wasilla chuch when she’s home and is a member of another Assembly of God church in Juneau.

  8. Two weeks ago she was BACK at the chuch hearing a sermon about how Israelis are being punished for not believing in Jesus. According to her pastor’s friend, that’s why they keep getting bombed by Palestinians.

  9. I read the comment above and had to comment on that first.
Anne, as someone who knows nothing about you other than what was posted by you, I can objectively say that while your comments were interesting, they were overshadowed by your obvious jealousy over Sarah Palin’s success. Sarah Palin if nothing else deserves rightful admiration for all of the “great” work she has done for her constituants in Alaska and the amazing walk she has taken in her life. Not eveyone is up to that challenge Anne. And not everyone has the guts to get up there despite knowing that there are people like you waiting to throw a grenade every chance they can. What if? What if for once, Americans could get be positive instead of negative? Would it be a different world? You bet it would be. We would be more powerful and more respected because our energy would be puit to good use instead of a waste of time running in circles for years-getting nowhere fast!

    Allan,
I disliked watching your show with Hannity because of the constant bickering between the 2 of you. Lately, I find I have to watch you because it’s the only show that isn’t afraid to give straight talk about all Candidates.
I know you were a supporter of Hillary Clinton and you have a great knack of selcting the best! Unfortunately, the Democratic Party is so corrupt that the American people were denied their voice and choice. I have read your comment about Palin and I have to say that you come across very condescending about her constant reference to GOD. Why? I know some of what she stands for and I know that it’s not the perfect fit for my life but to me what is most important is COUNTRY FIRST. What is the sense of pushing for more liberal views if we are not safe? My future counts on the promise of tomorrow and that tomorrow is more guaranteed to me with McCain/Palin in office willing to protect Americans! Obama is way too liberal. I used to be pro-choice until I decided to find out what an abortion looked like. I did that because I wanted to know what Partial Birth Abortion was about too. It made me sick to know that not only can women have the choice to abort but they can also abort in a way that is inhumane to the HUMAN and yes LIFE of an infant! I do not want a President that goes the extra step to eliminate LIFE. I also do not want a President who silenced the voices of voters in Michigan and Florida and then closer to the DNC Convention decides now they can count. If he played shady politics then-Americans can expect more of the same from Obama.
I agree with many Americans: The only cnadidate who actually fought for the American people is John McCain. I admire his character. His choice in Palin is perfect. I am from PA, and I love this Country! I cannot wait for us to return to traditional values instead of disconnecting further from the Foundations of this great Country! GOD BLESS AMERICA! Allan, you seem like a good guy with some very liberal views. Balance is what makes the United States the best place to live.

  10. This kind of politics makes me want to “Puke!” The war in Iraq was not a mission from God! What BS? What gall? The Republicans should be laughed out of office and kept out of office until they are held accountable for the deliberate manipulation of the facts. What greater evil could they impose on America than to claim that this war was “God’s will.” We are all God’s Children seeking a way to blow up the world. Some of us have already found a way and we keep using this power to our advantage. God would not let us profit from this evil. That’s America’s problem. The Republicans don’t get it.

  11. Sarah Palin..hmm.. Where do we start.. From the top…

Firstly, I will let it be known that I am not from the US (British)But I am a student and ardent follower of politics… I have been fascinated by the whole saga of American elections. But when John McCain picked, Gov Sarah Palin i was taken aback at that choice and when her story started to unfold that she wasn’t properly vetted, alarm bells went off in my head and I thought this will all turn out ugly. Listen I do not have no affiliation with no party or campaign, but do you realise how risky.. no no I mean a liability this candidate is? Now it’s all good that she’s the first republican woman to run for VP, she seems fairly smart and it’s obvious by her rise that she’s very ambitious which is good. But as I said, she’s a total liability.
She came onto the scene last Friday. And since then she has only received negative press, which I found a novelty as John McCain the Maverick, is considered by all to be the media’s darling. This made me want to take a closer look into SP.

On her first encounter with the MSM, she told a half truth about the bridge to nowhere, which was debunked the same day, which was surprising as I didn’t think she’d be so stupid. Then the rumours started spreading about a pregnancy, don’t really want to go into this. Then info started to surface about her incorrect and mis management in her roles as Mayor and Governor, which totally threw away the picture of her as a reformer (Maverick)Then we find out her daughter is expecting, now may I remind you she’s only seventeen, now this is not a bad thing really and normally I would agree that this should not be a media issue, but because of her mothers extreme stance on moral issues, this was a valid reason for media intrusion so as to highlight the mothers hypocrisy. With 2 on going investigations pending on SP into her role as Governor, we now here that she HAS had an extramarital affair with her husband’s business partner. The joke is i couldn’t understand why the McCain campaign was trying to deliberately butt heads with the MSM. But I now fully understand, it was and is done to try and kill this truth before it catches on and breaks into the public sphere. ‘Shoot the messenger 101′ Now what makes this info so hard to suppress, is the fact that foreign media have already picked up and hinted at these facts, which has led to pollsters or as you call them in the states as bookies taken bets as to how soon she will step down. A US magazine famous for breaking stories of this nature has already started printing tit bits about this sordid activity and has straight away come under fire and threatened with a lawsuit, but the magazine is not biting as it is practising good journalism by drip feeding the facts slowly so as to sell more editions. Now a European newspaper has also quoted this story but has reported it saying a RELIABLE SOURCE who apparently is prepared to go on the records..(This piece info was sourced of the web) Wow.. SP is part of the religious far right and as such would definitely blow her chances of reaching the White House. Certain high level republicans have already openly started to questions John McCain’s rash decision. This lady is definitely a weeping wound, so no matter how good she read a prepared speech, it changes nothing. The worst thing she could have done was to attack Obama, because now I’m expecting this story to out real soon. Remember if you live in a glasshouse, don’t throw stones.. Goodnite God Bless

  12. “Task From God”:

Isn’t that what al Qaeda says?

  13. Yup. The Freeper Fascist/Christian warmonger streak in her comes out like it always does.

If she becomes president, will she declare a “crusade” against Venezuela or Iran or both? It’s pretty obvious what the answer is.

  14. Speaking of crusade. Check out what they are teaching at the head mosque in the UK , This is UK news program “Dispatches”. Channel 4

  15. It may be time for the Left to get to work on the “Republicans Stole The Election Again” meme.

  16. As usual, Alan you are wrong. I would think that you would get tired of that position. Personally, I don’t know how Sean stands to be on the same show with you. The money must be good.

  17. Gwenda,

Sean is probably one of those type of people who can actually tolerate the fact that some people don’t share his own personal opinion

  18. Gwenda: Isnt it interesting how they love to mock these sorts of things .. not taking any time to actually try to get down to what is actually meant by these words.

It’s hard to take the complaining these folks do seriously because by their own laziness they show their only interest is to discredit her in the eyes of other people.

When Alan gets in his occasional religious debate with Ann Coulter he shows just how abymisal he understands the way Christians think.

All of these Liberals have that problem. They have an image in their head of what a Christian is , and they don’t deviate from it.

They actually truly believed that by spreading all the baby / pregnancy gossip last week, that the masses of Christians around the country would act like their template and burn the Palin’s at the steak.

Of course the opposite happened…. which anyone who isn’t an idiot would know would happen.

So now Alan is playing with the Christians and War nonsense since his Christians and Bastard / Unaborted Baby plot failed.

They just keep trying.. they’re wrong in case after case ..

The Left shows that it has no capability of self-reflection… which is why they also want to keep socialism on a country , despite it’s clear track legacy of death, war, impoverishment, tryanny.

  19. The Left shows that it has no capability of self-reflection… which is why they also want to keep socialism on a country , despite it’s clear track legacy of death, war, impoverishment, tryanny.

    s/b

The Left shows that it has no capability of self-reflection… which is why they also want to keep attempting to impose socialism on a country , despite it’s clear legacy of death, war, impoverishment, tryanny.

  20. I would argue that some on the right show a lack of capability of self reflection as well. Surely it is socialism to pay for the world’s military (The US pays as much for the military as the next 40 countries combined).

I.e. we are protecting the world, paying for the world’s military so that other countries don’t have to pay near as much for their own military, effectively redistributing wealth of US citizens to those other countries.

    Sounds like socialism to me.

  21. I got this from RedState

    ==========
Halfway through Sarah Palin’s speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani’s speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.

Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.
    ========================

You know what this confirms to me.. that what Palin was saying last night was sincere and truly reflective of her views.

With Obama… well.. since he has no record of being the type of person he claims to be in his speeches… and the fact that the man seems totally unable to speak without saying “uh” if he doesn’t have a teleprompter.. and that the words Obama use when he’s speaking in a teleprompter context and contrast that when he’s doing an interview or something.. you would never know it’s the same person.

When he’s not giving a speech, he does speak in the themes he says he’s all about in other contexts.

This tells me that his speeches are just script reading… that he doesnt’ believe a word of whathe’s saying.. that it’s David Axlerod writing what he knows the electorate of mindlessness will lap up.. just like with his last client , the Gov of Mass.

If his speeches were sincere expressions of his true beliefs , then he wouldn’t come to a stuttering halt whenever the teleprompter goes down.

  22. If anyone wants to take the time I found a link to videos from her church – many hours worth – so they are available – I just don’t have the time to listen to all of this crap

That’s EXACTLY what the left says about you!

But the left did not increase poverty:

Rapid Increase In Severe Poverty In The US Has Serious Implications For Public Health

OR cause the HUGE civilian AND military death toll in Iraq,

OR have 9/11 and Katrina happen on THEIR watch.

This is why I still think that SOME of these so called conservatives are actually liberals trying to make conservatives look silly.

The party who has increased poverty, caused innumerable deaths in an ill conceived war, and wiretaps their own people, saying things like, “despite it’s clear legacy of death, war, impoverishment, tryanny.”….

    Is just farcical!

  24. The problem with Palin is that what she believes is what many will have a problem with.

    - The war was a task from god to secure oil/energy
    - Global warming is not contributed to by man
    - Creationism is science
    - Pork is OK as long as it is in *my* state
    - Maybe Alaska should secede from the US

It’s not that I’m worried she doesn’t believe what she says, the problem is that she does.

  25. After a week spent of one false allegation after another the fact that you uncriticaly pass them along doensnt say much for your credibilty. And anyway , I sincerely doubt that the truth is what you’re seeking.

Here’s a woman you know nothing about.. and you just apply on her the Leftist template of what a Christian is. Don’t expect people who can think to agree with you though. Nor expect them to waste their time showing your wrong.

You’re like a bunch of 4 year olds running around with scissors..

    Real or satire?

  29. They dont know what to do.

Did you notice Alan didn’t even make a post about the speech and what it contained.

They’re afraid to even quote her. [note their laughable diversion into church... they told us before they dont care about people's religion, we're to take them seriously that they care now? hah]

Here are some funny things Rudy said:

On the other hand, you have a resume from a gifted man with an Ivy League education. He worked as a community organizer, and immersed himself in Chicago machine politics. Then he ran for the state legislature – where nearly 130 times he was unable to make a decision yes or no. He simply voted “present.”

As Mayor of New York City, I never got a chance to vote “present.” And you know, when you’re President of the United States, you can’t just vote “present.” You must make decisions.

    =============

You need to face your enemy in order to defeat them. John McCain will face this threat and lead us on to victory.

Look at just one example in a lifetime of principled stands — John McCain’s support for the troop surge in Iraq. The Democratic Party had given up on Iraq. And I believe, ladies and gentlemen, that when they gave up on Iraq they were giving up on America. The Democratic leader in the Senate said so: “America has lost.”

Well, if America lost, who won? Al Qaida? Bin Laden? In the single biggest policy decision of this election, John McCain got it right and Barack Obama got it wrong.

If Barack Obama had been President, there would have been no troop surge and our troops would have been withdrawn in defeat.

    =================

Senator McCain was the candidate most associated with the surge. And it was unpopular.

What do you think most other candidates would have done in that situation? They would have acted in their own self-interest by changing their position.

How many times have we seen Barack Obama do that?

Obama was going to take public financing for his campaign, until he didn’t.

Obama was against wiretapping before he voted for it.

When speaking to a pro-Israel group, Obama favored an undivided Jerusalem. Until the very next day when he changed his mind.

I hope for his sake, Joe Biden got that VP thing in writing.

    =========================

When Russia rolled over Georgia, John McCain knew exactly how to respond

Obama’s first instinct was to create a moral equivalency – that “both sides” should “show restraint.” The same moral equivalency that he has displayed in discussing the Palestinian Authority and the State of Israel.

Later, after discussing it with his 300 foreign policy advisors, he changed his position and suggested that the “the UN Security Council,” could find a solution. Apparently, none of his 300 advisors told him that Russia has a veto on any UN action. Finally Obama put out a statement that looked … well, it looked a lot like John McCain’s.

Here’s some free advice: Sen. Obama, next time just call John McCain

    ==========================

And as we look to the future never let us forget that – when we are at our best – we are the party that expands Freedom. We began as a party dedicated to freeing people from slavery … And we are still the party that is willing to fight for freedom at home and around the world. We are the party that wants to expand individual freedom and economic freedom … because we believe that the secret of America’s success is not central government, it is self-government. We are the party that believes in giving workers the right to work. The party that believes parents should choose where their children go to school.

And we are the party that believes unapologetically in America’s essential greatness – that we are a shining city on the hill, a beacon of freedom that inspires people everywhere to reach for a better world.

So my fellow Republicans and my fellow Americans – over the next 8 weeks, remember that the results of this election are in your hands. You get to determine America’s future. You can decide America’s direction.

If they didn’t act all holier than thou all the time i couldn’t give a rat’s posterior that Palin eloped to cover up the fact that she was as loose as her daughter currently is! The thing I complained about was that a false template is being applied to the Govr.

And so, seeing how you would be an effective person to communicate to folks who would see you as “on their side” why not work toward helping Alan and the readers understand the religouus views they’re quoting?

  33. Nothing was well said. The accusation against me was meritless, though i chose not to argue about that specific point.

I never claimed to have exclusive anything… all I said was tht many of you choose to hold onto your fictional views and nothing I say would change that, so I wouldn’t waste my time correcting them.. i only made the statement to have my objection noted.

  34. Vince,

People on the left aren’t the only ones with an idea about what a christian is, everyone has their own idea of what a christian is, what a muslim is, what a hindu is, etc… Doesn’t matter if you are on the left, right, center, top, bottom, whatever.

I don’t like when radical muslims want to ‘martyr ‘themselves killing random people, and I get concerned when christian politicians in the US think a war is ‘God’s task’.

Who knows, maybe God doesn’t like these things either, guess we won’t know till we die.

  35. Hey vince,

Couldn’t help but notice this comment below and wondered exactly how you managed to be so ill informed.

“which is why they also want to keep socialism on a country , despite it’s clear track legacy of death, war, impoverishment, tryanny.”

The country which has had the longest tradition of social democracy, with its Social Democratic Party in power for nearly all the of the last seventy years is Sweden.

That would be a country with one of the best standards of living in the world, with free health care, free universal education and a tradition of neutrality that means it the last time it got involved in war was in 1812. It also has low unemployment and a strong economy with people who have one of longest life expectancies.

That doesn’t sound very much like the socialism your describing Vince, now does it?

Maybe you should try leaving your little bubble world or even reading a few books, before spouting off about something you clearly know nothing about.

Here’s a links to help with your education.

  36. Oh Vince,

You’re on fire today another great quote here.

“And we are the party that believes unapologetically in America’s essential greatness – that we are a shining city on the hill, a beacon of freedom that inspires people everywhere to reach for a better world.”

Have you ever left this great country of ours? Do you have any idea what a laughing stock you’d be if you said that to someone who’s not American.

It may have been the case once, but after the last eight years, what the rest of world feels for us is either pity or hatred.

The sooner you leave cloud cuckoo land and check out the real world the better. Invest in a passport. Believe me, you won’t regret it.

  37. Sheesh Smee,

Can’t you just post a link and maybe provide a sentence or two of summary or opinion? Reposting entire articles is tiresome, and probably a copy write violation.

    http://sarahpalin.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/09/gods-plan-for-m.html

  48. I wonder if God talked back to her, furthermore, what did he say? I ask God, HELP US.

  49. Alan .. you should heed Rove’s advice, You are embarrassing your self. If you’re going to parrot Democrat talking pints, at least memorize them instead of reading them off crib notes.

And … enough of the colme forward hair do. Be a man … you’re going bald.

  50. Is Sarah Palin the kiss of death to McCain chances to get elected! I think so.

  51. occam: what/when did Rove tell Alan?

  52. VINCE P

Carl Rove may have not told Alan anything, but don’t tell me that you are that Naive.

  53. I think we see the difference in real class between the two candidates. McCain waited until the day AFTER the Dems convension to announce his VP choice because he said he didn’t want to detract from their convension. Obama decided to go on The O’Reilly Factor the very night McCain will be nominated. Maybe that’s the reason he waited all these months to go on the show.

  54. Croonie? What is that? Not in my dictionary.

  55. Alan.
It’s been about a week now since McCain nominated Sarah palin, yet we have not seen her ONCE take questions from reporters.

she is always “hidden” under favorite environment. If she has that much time to write on her blog, then she has time to talk to reporters and spread her message that way, than hiding behind a blog

  56. SAM.

very interesting. I think it will work.

  57. Thank you for bringing this out, I had seen the video where she spoke a few days ago and was wondering when this was going to come out. I had no intention of voting for McCain, but if I was on the fence for sure now I would not vote for him. She is scary, her speech was full of hate, not one word about how to help the common folk. The video clearly is in her words, the war in Iraq is from God. I hope this gets out more, of course they Evanglist will be beaming, but not me.

  58. David, your offer to pray for the salvation of liberals is well-intentioned, but maybe you could take the plank out of your own eye before commenting on the speck in anyone else’s.

    Here’s my prescription:
    1) STOP going to church for a month, because clearly your sense of what Christianity is about is horribly warped. I don’t blame you, pastors everywhere are either voluntarily adopting the GOP hate message, or they’re feeling pressured to do so.
    2) Take turns reading the Gospels in the Bible, paragraph by paragraph, with your family. These are Jesus’s words. Sure, they were interpreted by man and subjected to editing by man over the last couple of milleniums, but they’ll provide a clearer picture of what Jesus actually wants.

And that doesn’t include war, rewards for the rich, and persecution of the poor, sick, elderly, women and children, for starters.

  59. It’s about time, a woman has a say in the oval office . . Alan, you should be very happy.

  60. Rigano: How is asking someone to tell me what someone said considered naive?

  61. VINCE. with all do respect, naive in the sense of underestimating Carl Rove and his role of all this. I know he is not on vacation through all this.

  62. What’s that got to do with someone telling me what he said?

Oh … I forgot to think like a Lefty… you see, when I asked for what he said, I assumed maybe Rove said something funny to Alan when they were on TV.

With the bizarre way you responded to me, I think where you’re coming from is that Rove is talking to Alan secretly. It didn’t occur to me that there was a conspiracy going on.

Here in LiberalLand everything is a conspiracy!

  63. VINCE. This is not about Liberal or lefty, it’s about Carl Rove and pruning a campaign, Carl Rove way.

  64. Let me know when the shuttle lands

  65. VINCE. Face it, it has landed my friend.

  66. VINCE, and it’s in is way to the hanger… just observe.

  67. Is Dennis Kucinich in it?

  68. VINCE, Is that the best you can come up with Dennis Kucinich? was that a rightly talking, or just you talking!

  69. The Iraq war is a task from God. Very interesting. I’ll bet Vinnie is salivating at the thought of killing more Muslims.

  70. TDRO.

In my opinion, the Iraq war was not about Muslims or to kill Muslims. It’s about Oil and power, it just happened that some Muslim countries has a lot of oil. Just look at the USA situations with some of the non Muslim countries who has oil. I don’t see USA killing Muslims in a non oil country.

  71. Libs, time to stock up on the “Depends”…..hahhahahahaha! (We can smell your fear…)

  72. TDRO
The last sentence in my last comment should have read (I don’t see USA killing Muslims in a Muslim non oil country

  73. REM.

and we can smell yours. Have a great day.

  74. Rigano:
I agree with you, the Iraq war is about oil and shouldn’t have been started in the first place. Vinnie is a regular conservative poster here who hates Muslims. I mean REALLY hates Muslims (and blacks, and Canadians, and liberals, etc.) and can’t wait for another war with a Muslim country.

  75. TDRO.

People who hate Muslims, or Jews, or Christians or any religion or any group of people shows the hate in their inner self, it comes out as hatting a group of people or another.

  76. Rigano: He’s lying.

TDRO: You should be aware that defamation and libel laws apply to Internet communications.

  77. TDRO,

That type of comment really does very little to support your argument, and is a disgusting thing to say. I have not seen Vince post anything suggesting that he is eager to kill anyone.

The issues are interesting enough to debate without getting into ugly personal attacks.

  78. VINCE. I don’t see anything liable of what TDRO wrote. Knock off this scaring tactics.

  79. Rigano: Of course you don’t.

  80. Rigano,

TDRO makes this ugly, baseless post and you choose to criticize the person attacked. I’ve got news for you guys, this kind of stuff doesn’t convince anyone of anything other than the lack or credibility of the attackers.

  81. VINCE. Then explain to me how you see it?

  82. Um Cara. all I said was my opinion. Wecan disagree and still stand.

  83. Vince,

You may have already stated it elsewhere, but I haven’t seen it. Are you at all troubled by Palin’s statement that this war is a ‘Task from God’?

If not, do you see any parallels between that kind of justification for war and those who saw it a holy imperative to crash planes into the towers?

  84. The war in Iraq was a task from god to secure oil/energy
    - Global warming is not contributed to by human activity
    - Creationism is science
    - Pork is OK as long as it benefits Alaska
    - Alaska should secede from the US
    - No right to choice for rape or incest
    - There are more caribou in Alaska than people.

  85. Muslims are bad! So let’s go over to Iraq, remove their dictator, and start taking our American tax dollars over there to build SCHOOLS FOR MUSLIMS, ROADS FOR MUSLIMS, POOLS FOR MUSLIMS, AND COMPLEXES FOR MUSLIMS.

Because, clearly, in America, we’re afraid of the Muslims.

Oh, wait, no, we’re afraid of the Muslim fundamentalists, the ones who engage in terrorism.

Like the right-wing radical Christians who bombed the Murrah building in Oklahoma City.

  86. Um Cara

what credibility are you talking about? are you referring to credibility as the one of George Push, Dick Chaney!

  87. Rigano,

I mean when people of either side engage in silly ad hominem attacks, or support others who do, it harms their credibility.

So, no, I was not referring to Bush or Chaney, though, in fact, neither have much credibility with me.

  88. UC: That statement is not a rationale for war. It’s merely a common Christian point of view that God has a design in our world and so since the Govt of the US has sent the military to Iraq , that as Christians they will do thier best to serve and honor him.

I can see how this is easy to twist to something else, and i’m sure some of you will.

  89. Sean Hannity is a moron-he is a “Parrot” and a bully-whiner-all this stuff about the media-are he and Limbaugh and Fox News the media-cause they say terrifble and untrue stuff-then play the poor us card when someone stands up to these idiots-I feel sorry for the people who actually believe these guys as they make money hand over fist from these poor souls-

  90. Sarah

The war in Iraq is not costing USA any “Tax Dollars” beside the lives of our brave soldiers. If you look beyond the surface you will see not only how much the war is NOT costing us, but how much money have we been, are, and will continue to make out of Iraq, not to mention the lives of all the people from countries around the globe who dies because of the Iraqi war.

  91. OK, please indulge me a bit – I genuinely want to understand… And I won’t use the word justification, I actually almost did not use that word in my first post.

So the common Christian point of view that God has a design in our world you mention… Meaning this US foreign policy specifically? I.e. many other countries do not support this war (Including, I believe, the Vatican, obviously representing another Christian view), and many terrorists would see that attacking the US is OK (in their view it is God’s design as well (a non Christian God, obviously)… So how does she know that God’s design is represented by US policy? How does God manifest this instruction (if that is the right word) that this war is a task approved by Him?

  92. UC: You’re confusing government action and that of individuals.

Any official in the Govt should make decisions on secular, legal and Constitutional basis, not religious.

  93. UM CARA
You wrote “this kind of stuff doesn’t convince anyone of anything other than the lack or credibility of the attackers”

Now, I am comparing this kind of stuff you mentioned, to the same kind of “stuff” of the attacks of George Bush and Dick Chaney and all the others who follow that line of “stuff”

  94. In my opinion, we should leave God out of politics, but unfortunately God was the first formula of politics and we are still at this time and age use that same formula.

  95. ….. and it works!!!

  96. Rigano,

Huh? Look, if you think personal attacks on others are justified by other people making personal attacks, tudo bem. (it’s all good)

I get more irritated with people I think I mostly agree with on policy issues who make/support personal attacks because it does not help the case that I am trying to make – but I’m obviously not your Dad, I can’t tell you what to do – I just pointed out that in my opinion, it doesn’t help advance your cause much.

Insult Vince all you want, I bet he can take it – Insult me if you want, I don’t care. Point out that others make personal attacks, it isn’t really news to me.

  97. Vince,

I agree, that is why I am concerned by a government official who would feel that a war was a ‘task by God’. Having said that, I think I am still misunderstanding your view here – as you too believe government officials should not use religion to make their decisions, but I will drop it for now, I bet this is a point that will come up again in the next couple of months, and we will have another chance to discuss it.

  98. Um Cara

I don’t see how you being my dad, or not for that matter, has anything to do with this? … you are funny

  99. “The war in Iraq is not costing USA any “Tax Dollars” ”
    …………………………………….

    WHAT??

Who do you think is paying for it?…..Over a trillion dollars?

We are borrowing the money, mostly from China!

And read newspapers from around the world.

The world HATES us, and thinks we invaded Iraq to steal their natural resources, and all the money that has gone to war profiteers just gives them more evidence!

    Oh, wait……Is THIS satire??

    I can’t tell anymore!

  100. Rigano,

It’s a saying, I’m not your dad, so I can’t tell you what to do. I.e. if I were your daddy, I would have the right to give you orders, and I would order you to stop making/supporting personal insults.

Thanks for the compliment, the world, and certainly this blog, could use more humor.

  101. UM CARA
You said “this kind of stuff doesn’t convince anyone of anything other than the lack or credibility of the attackers.”

I am using your same logic by making the point to the credibility of George Bush and Dick Chaney and on and on.

  102. UC: I personally think that the Revival of Islam is the greatest force of evil in the world and it needs to be fought.

  103. Oldlefty,

You are 100% correct! The $$$ cost is huge, and is being born by the U.S., financed through China.

And the world opinion debt is even greater. I remember when ‘Iraq’ sentenced Saddam to death. Every single Brazilian that I talked to said the U.S. killed Saddam.

I can’t even count the number of Western Europeans, Scandinavians, Latins (the areas I primary travel in) who have stated, with certainty, that this war was for Oil. More than a hundred, for sure. No one outside of the U.S. that I have spoken to believes it is a war on terror.

Note: I am not arguing in this post one way or the other the true reasons for this war, only stating anecdotal experiences with world opinion. Trust me, when you travel abroad and are marked as an American, you will have plenty of opportunity to discuss this war.

  104. UM CARA

I know it’s a saying, and I understand you very well, but not with that your dad “stuff”

  105. I gotta tell you, my little, old mother in law from India, ALWAYS loved America.

They tell me when Kennedy was killed , people went into the streets and wept.

Now, she sees Bush on TV, shakes her head, and says, “What a monster”

    It’s sad.

  106. (head throbbing)
    (vision fading)
    (must…have…chicken…soup)

Rigano, the dad thing meant that I knew I could not *order* you to stop supporting silly ad hominem attacks, like YOUR DAD could order you to stop making them, for example.

I was using the saying in that way, to express, that while in my *opinion* these types of comments were unhelpful, I *know* good and well you will continue to support them, if you wish.

(and before you ask, the chicken soup comment is from the animated show The Tick, a very, very good cartoon)

  107. Vince,

That sounds very much like a personal religious conviction, so I won’t argue with you about it, but appreciate the insight on your thinking.

And to give you a bit of insight on my thinking, I don’t share that view, I know and work with many Muslims and would have a hard time viewing them, or their faith, or people converting to it, as evil.

  108. I work with many Muslims too. If they were following their religion all the way they wouldn’t be working with you.

Very devout Muslims do not unnecessarily mingle with dirty infidels.. thus the fallacy of “Well I have lots of Muslims and they dont want to kill me, therefore Islam is peaceful”

No.. your Muslim friends are simply choosing to not live thier lives under the totality of the legitimate Islamic doctrine.

Plus there are also laws regarding them being welcoming to guests.. which is why they don’t kill infidel visitors in Muslim lands.

And there are laws.. very insidious ones.. about how Muslims should behave if they find themselves living in a Non-Muslim land.

  109. Oldlefty,

In my opinion, The Saudi and rich Arab oils producing countries are paying for the Iraqi war in so many creative ways, by manipulating the crude oil prices on the world market, so the corrupted kings and sheiks of the rich Arab oil countries pay back through investing their trillions of petro dollar profits in the biggest USA corporations, and through contracts to American oil company. That also goes for the very rich oil Iraq and its oil that is controlled by the US government and their poppet regime in Iraq.

It’s Like I ask you to pay for my dinner, all my dinner plus tips and valet parking, and I will buy you a car tomorrow, but of course in a bigger level, which is the same to the Saudis and rich Arab oils producing countries, who were getting paid less than 30 dollars a barrel in recent years and look how high the crude oil prices has gotten, all during the Iraqi war.

If you think there is no connection between the crude oil prices and the war in Iraq, it’s fine, you are entitled to your opinion,

  110. UM CARA

Relax and take a deep breath and Your affectionate to cartoons does not really impress me.

  111. “TDRO makes this ugly, baseless post and you choose to criticize the person attacked.”
    Posted by UM CARA

Oh really???? Try checking some of his older posts, you’ll see what I mean. The man is a racist.

  112. A quote, verbatim, from Alan’s article:

“Far be it from me to know what God’s plan is for any particular pubic [sic] policy, but apparently Governor Palin’s powers of divination are much better than mine.”

No one can know the mind of God, but we can come to know His character when we have a relationship with Him. Maybe you should try it Alan.

  113. I’ll warn you again about defamation and libel.

    I am not a racist

  114. Vince,

I think what you see as ‘very devout Muslims’ I see as Muslims who have been taught a very specific form of Islam propagated by Saudia Arabia to keep their people focused on another enemy rather than their corrupt kingdom.

It’s not too different from someone picking some specific flavor of Christianity and saying “well, if they were truly devout Christians they would be dancing with snakes and refusing medical care to their children”

I don’t think it reasonable for you to question the devotion of the Muslims you or I work with simply because they do not follow the tenants that OTHER Muslims follow. An Evangelical Christian should not be called a non devout Christian because he does not go to confession, as a Catholic would be required to do, for example.

  115. Rigano,

I appreciate all the meats of our cultural stew. Cartoons, films, jazz, rock, country, theater, whatever, as long as it is good.

(ps. first sentence was a Simpsons reference, to keep the cartoon theme rolling)

  116. I dont claim to be Evan. Christian. I only claim to understand them.

Regarding Islam.. all of the schools of Islam call for the separation of Muslim from Kufr.. ALL of them.

To the extent that Muslims befriend Non-Muslims is the extent to which they disregard the rules. In non-muslims lands this is usually something that could be done cost-free.

  117. Vince P, with all respect, and not to put you down, you HAVE made very racist remarks in the past. Now maybe if you apologized to Cheryl, people would stop bringing that up.

  118. Vince,

Yea, I was just using the Evan. Christian as another example, I don’t have any idea what type of Christian you are (and I’m not asking)

RE: All schools call for separation – I bet it all comes down to interpretation, again, many people I know who consider themselves to be devout Muslims don’t feel the need to separate themselves. I can’t say what their mosques tell them.

At any rate, we aren’t going to change each others minds on the nature of what is or is not evil

  119. Calling Cheryl an Angry Black Woman was descriptive. Truth is a defense

  120. UC: You stated that Islam, which is a system of law, allowed for mixing. It doesn’t.

The fact that Muslims do is another matter.

To me the distinction is important because as long as the separation remains legally valid, then there’s the always the potential someone will follow it.

  121. … You called her at least an angry black b*tch… and I think more, in reference to her race, which had NO bearing on the argument. To bring personal comments about another person’s race into a discussion about politics, is racist, in my opinion.

Dude, it made you look bad, and at this point, having discussed the issue of respect with you, I ended up with some friendly feeling toward you, so I do encourage you to clear your name with an apology.

(not to get all dramatic or anything)

  122. Hey guess what everyone

This whole post is a lie.

The whole post is centered around the notion that the Iraq war by the US is being as a task from God.

    W R O NG

Alan chopped off half the quote.

    Dirty business.

    Alan’s deceptive version:

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

    The real version:

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

I knew something wasn’t right about this… and I was right.

When are you people going to have any honor?

  123. Come on Alan. You always complain about Obama being taken out of context, and then you turn around and do the same to Gov. Palin.
    1. Stop being so eager to spread propaganda, and do some actual research before you make a post.
    2. Post a complete quote, instead of doing a hatchet job to make it say what you want.
If you have to lie to support you cause, how can it be a cause worth believing in?

  125. This brod is freaking crazy. Be afraid be very afraid if she gets in the White House.

  126. If Palin gets in the White House, it would be like a scary recurring dream over and over again possibly for the next 16 years. Lets not go down that road.

  128. Nothing is more scary then the footsoldiers of the Left who tolerate all lies and slanders told by their own people to destroy others.

  129. Vince,

Thanks for the original source / full quote. I’m not really mad at Alan about it, his job is to entertain and provoke discussion – but I agree the meaning is completely different when you have the full quote.

She is praying to God that this is his will, not stating that He has given this as a task.

So again, not so much irritated with Alan, but am chagrined that I repeated the incomplete quote. I’ll remove it from my objections about her.

  130. ok so not only have I proved that Palin is not a religious whackjob… and that Alan has deliberately tried to make her seem like one.

Let me present to you what Obama did when he was in Israel.

    He wrote this prayer:

“Lord, protect my family and me. Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of Your will.”

Notice how he’s asking God to turn him into an instrument of his will?

Ok .. he writes that down on TWO pieces of paper. One of them he takes to the Western Wall and puts it in the crack.

The other he gives to a newspaper to “leak” as if they found it.

What initially seemed to be a journalistic scoop of dubious moral propriety now seems to be a case of an Israeli paper being played by the Barack Obama campaign.

Maariv, the second most popular newspaper in Israel, was roundly criticized for publishing the note Obama left in the Kotel. But now a Maariv spokesperson says that publication of the note was pre-approved for international publication by the Obama campaign, leading to the conclusion that the “private” prayer was intentionally leaked for public consumption.

There is some really dirty things going on here.

You are all being conditioned to hate this woman based on lies, while your fraud pretends to be just as religious.

And at least in both these cases Alan has to know he’s playing some sort of role in it.

  131. “And at least in both these cases Alan has to know he’s playing some sort of role in it.”

oops .. not both cases.. just this one that he perpetrated

  132. Vince,

I wouldn’t say you have proven she isn’t a religious wack-job (though I wouldn’t ordinarily use that kind of inflammatory language, am only repeating what you said) – let’s see about her views on creationism as ’science’ first.

  133. Vince,

“… while your fraud pretends to be just as religious.”

I think it wrong to judge whether another’s stated religious beliefs are real or not. Certainly you can think and profess it wrong that he publicly release a private prayer, but that says nothing to the authenticity of his religious beliefs.

  134. “I think it wrong to judge whether another’s stated religious beliefs are real or not”

Do you think its wrong what Alan did?

  135. Vince,

When did he say her religious beliefs were not real?

  136. Iraq war “God’s will.” !!!??? This woman is a DANGER to our country and the world. Palin is nothing more than a “Christian jihadist”. Oh, no, that’s wrong.. she’s not Christian at all. I thought Christians were supposed to promote pacifism whenever possible. So that just makes her a jihadist.

She was chosen to catch people’s attention, like a cheap TV ad.

At least some of the people putting posts here have figured this out….

Wake up America!! It’s not too late to vote against this insanity!!!

  137. to alan and all of his left wing disciples: i see where obama is sending hillary out on the campaign trail to try to diminish palins impact on women. why cant obama and joe ”mr washington” biden do their own work on this matter. can they not appeal to women? sounds to me like palin scares them a little bit. hillary should not go there. her political life is full of scandel and i guess her husbands affairs and lies are still a ”vast right wing conspiracy. yes, the economy was good under clinton but does the republican congress at that time get any credit? a republican congress that bill clinton helped create in 1994. hillary was defeated in the primaries because people remember the clintons. scandel, lies and impeachment hearings.palin scares the left wing and the liberal media.why are you guys afraid? i thought your candidate is the messiah? why the fear. good look hillary, but a lot of women are behind palin and your left wing rhetoric is not going to change that.

  138. Sarah Palin had nothing of substance or value in her speech;therefore, all she had left was cutting negativity and sarcasm.

  139. J,

Reading the quote it looks to me more like she was praying that this was His will, not STATING that it was His will (Evangelical christian version of saying ‘man, I hope we are doing the right thing here’).

I had the same reaction as you when I read the partial quote, but seeing it in context it was far less scary.

  140. Alan, Please tell sean that: WE LOST THE WAR BUT WE WON THE SURGE.

  141. Does anything surprise you about so called Christians? We know, the War in Iraq was Created through LIES of George Bush. Christians know, God hates Liars. Palin’s statement, The Iraq War is a Task From God. Indeed she would be saying, Bush is God. Her remark seems to agree with the statement of Bush #1 in his New World Order. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8259800846851144110

Why hasn’t the “Christian” Sean Hannity spoken out?

  142. People stop and Think, Can we not see how far this Nation has turned from Holy God? The Only reason people are standing behind Palin, is because she is against Abortions, I am Too, but, I am for All Life! Every life is important in God’s Eyes. Do you think for one second, God cares More for the unborn babies of America than He cares for the Hundreds of Thousands men, women and children Killed in Iraq because of Lies of our President? Jesus didn’t die for America Only, He died for the World, Yes, even the Nations America Hates. And God said, Blessed are the Peace Makers! Woe unto the Warmongers!

  143. I find those who market in total lies and defamation about people to be way worse than someone who is videotaped in a tape.

Annette: You’re spreading false statements designed to provoke people into hatred. What kind of person are you?

  144. Check it out, every thing I wrote is truth. Do some research!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_and_weapons_of_mass_destruction

  145. To Mr David Finley: Laughed my ass off at your “Daily KOS plant” comment. Really? You think we’re scared because she’s a “strong, conservative, woman?” I think we’re afraid that another zealot is about to be one heartbeat (or cancer diagnosis)from the presidency. I think we’re tired of paying for foreign policy thats driven by the industries who benefit financially. And I think we’re sick and tired of people using God and/or Jesus in the name of war. I think if folks who believe like you ever do find yourselves facing judgement you are in for a BIG AWAKENING. Until then, I will certainly be praying for YOUR forgiveness friend…

  146. what happened to the first post here by the person from Alaska that was very long and detailed about Gov. Palin being more of a witch than a reformer? I want to read it again, even send it to others.

  147. Please help me understand, radical Islamic people say they are doing “Gods Task” and we want them to go away? But the Republician Americain says we are doing a task for god and we want her to be our 2nd in command. I am very concerened for the well being of my children. I firmly belive God has a purpose for all of us. It is not to go around the world killing people in the name of something or some entity that you can not call to a witness stand. Do not blame your thirst for blood on God. If a Sex offender says God made me do it, is he less gulty of his crime? Stop the American War in Iraq. They can handle their own problems now that Saddam is gone.

  148. Terry Johnson,

Don’t you understand that OUR voodoo is good…..THEIR voodoo is bad?

  149. Google “imprecatory prayer mccain palin” and see if you don’t get the crap scared out of you. You might share it with your buddy Shawn but he is too far down in the koolaid bowl to learn anything new.Seems some in Sarah’s church are praying for McCain to win then a swift death for the old boy so their Sister Sarah can take over POTUS. Makes the whole Rev Wright thing a non issue almost.

  150. [...] You addressed your former church by saying that our military in Iraq is “on a task from God.”  Do you believe our invovement in [...]

  151. “Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said.

Actually, that’s not what she said. Here’s what she said:

“Pray for our country, that our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God.”

There’s a big difference. The first one is said by someone who presumes to know the will of God. The second one is said by someone who is asking for God’s guidance.

Nice, though, to just chop off the beginning of her sentence to change the meaning.

  152. Any person who wouldn’t tell her family she was pregnant, and didn’t tell her children her newborn had Down’s, and goes back to work 3 DAYS after giving birth is a nut. What kind of judgement is that???

  153. Are you kidding me? You pounced on this w/o any charity and as a result, you’ve misunderstood or misconstrued what she was saying. Her point about Lincoln’s admonition that we be on God’s side, as she explained in tonight’s interview, is obviously what she meant. And the same point applies to her efforts as Governor of Alaska — the pipeline, etc. We all proceed on our best judgment and pray that God will make things work out for the best, **according to His will.** God, everyone acknowledges, may have something else in mind. Really, I think you ought to retract your comments and apologize.

I’ve seen you on FOX, Alan, and you come across better than this on the air — I think it is because you show a little more restraint in that forum. You can be better than this.

  154. so… has anyone verified that the “task from God” is a legitimate quote?

How about seeing her say it herself:

  156. robert lewis: seems secrecy is very important to her.that is evident by her attempts to stop the ethics investigation.

  157. It is not a legitimate quote.

The false quote is “Our leaders are sending you on a task from God”

the Real Quote is something like “Pray to God that our leaders are sending you on a task from God”

So note that the meaning changes from “I , Sarah, have been told by God that we will go to Iraq and fullfill his Will”

No… instead it’s more like “Please God give wisdom to our leaders so that we do the right thing”

This is a typical Christian prayer, and similar expresses have been said by many Presidents in the past.
